Frieda Dow-Manta
Frieda Joan Dow-Manta, 73, of Bellevue, died Dec. 21, 2005 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 13, 1932 the daughter of Fred and Fern (Hedges) Down in Morrilton, Ark. Joan graduated from Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., and received her nursing degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University. She worked as a nurse at Leila Hospital for 20 years.
Joan served as president of the Battle Creek District of the Michigan Licensed Practical Nurses Association, she was named “Bellevue Citizen of the Year” in 1981 and volunteered for the Rescue Squad for 10 years. She was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church, served as the church secretary, was a member of the choir and served as president and vice president of the United Methodist Women. As a member of the Eastern Star, she served as worthy matron of Bellevue/Olivet Chapter 196 for three years and as a committee member in the Palmberg Dales Grand Family Order of Eastern Star of Michigan in 1988-89, and was currently a member of Kalamo Chapter 399.
Joan loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, bowling, and playing cards with her friends. She especially enjoyed her friends, laughter and her church family. Joan assisted others with home-bound medical care and she touched many lives with her mercy and compassion.
Joan is survived by: her husband, Elie Manta; children, Victoria (Patrick) McEwan of Charlotte, Stephen (Valarie) Manta of Battle Creek, Virginia (Brent) Nesseth of Kalamazoo, Donald (Ruth) Manta of Sanborn, NY; grandchildren, Erica (Sean) Angelo, Austin and Holly Nesseth, Stephanie and Cameron Manta, Daniel, AnnaRuth, Timothy and Benjamin Manta; siblings, Julian (Richard) Hall of Texarkana, Ark., Francis (Eileen) Dow of Fullerton, Calif., Neal Dupre of Peachtree City, Ga.; special friends, Paul and Sue Haist of Bellevue; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at Bellevue United Methodist Church, with Pastor Virginia Heller officiating.

Dorothy M. Doxtader
Dorothy May Doxtader, 78, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Friday, May 20, 2005.
Mrs. Doxtader was born March 18, 1927, the daughter of Carl K. and Goldie I. (French) Towers. She was a member of the Charlotte Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, sewing, and loved her family.
She is survived by daughters, Donna Doxtader of Missouri , Rachel Nichols of Lansing, Kathy Doxtader of Stockbridge, Sandra (Richard) Holton of Potterville, Diana (Larry) McConnell of Marshall, Geraldine (George) Pope of Charlotte, Josephine Carnell of Potterville and Sada Thorp of Battle Creek; sons, Gordon (Martha) Doxtader of Stanton and Bernard (Joan) Doxtader of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; brothers, Wayne (Audrey) Towers and James Towers, and sister, Ella Bugbee, all of Eaton Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Doxtader, in 1992; her parents; brothers, sisters and three sons-in-law.
Graveside services were held May 25 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, with Pastor Church Hanlon officiating.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Jean L. Drew
Jean L. Drew, age 87, of Jackson, formerly of Hollywood, FL, died Thursday, August 4, 2005 in Jackson. Jean was born July 16, 1918 in Ingham County, the daughter of Carl Keihm and Edna Blanche (Walton) Topliff. She was a member of Robbins United Methodist Church and very active in Broward Co. Florida Friends of the Library. Jean was a Past President of Vista Grande Villa Residence Council and was employed as the Director of Food Service at Albion College and public schools in N. Carolina and Florida. She was preceded in death b y 2 husbands, Richard Heinig and Clyde Drew.
Jean is survived by 2 daughters, Kathleen Naylor and Judy (Darrell) Herriff, all of Eaton Rapids; 1 son, Larry (Mary Lou) Heinig of Lansing; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren 1 brother, Jerold (Maxine) Topliff of Eaton Rapids; 1 sister, Rhea (Leon) Carrier of Battle Creek, MI; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on August 20, 2005 at the Robbins United Methodist Church with Rev. Carolyn Spragg officiating. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Robbins United Methodist Church in memory of Jean Drew.
Emily J. Duits
Emily Jo Duits, of Sunfield, passed away Oct. 11, 2005.
Emily was born July 26, 1989, the second daughter of Jeff and Selena Duits of Sunfield. She was a junior at Lakewood High School. She loved Jesus Christ her Lord and attended Kilpatrick United Brethren Church and youth group. Emily’s biggest love was her friends; if she wasn’t at one of Lakewood’s sporting events with her friends she was at their home or they were at hers. She loved going to bonfires with them and constantly talked to her friends on her phone or MSN.
Emily also loved music and dance and took classes at Center Stage dance academy. She was also a member of Ionia County Youth Advisory Committee. Besides loving her friends, she loved her family and extended family and was especially close to her sister Sarah and had found a brother figure in her life in Adam Wrubel. Her passion in life was being a part of Lakewood volleyball. The entire Rowland family was especially dear to her heart. She also played for FarOut Volleyball Club of Grand Rapids and was a member of the National Team and went to Salt Lake City, Utah, this summer to compete in the Junior Olympics.
She is survived by her parents, Jeff and Selena; her adored sister, Sarah; brother in her heart, Adam Wrubel; grandparents, Bob and Joyce Boom of Hastings, Pamela Mix of Woodland, Ken and Diane Duits of Also; great grandma, Wilma Townsend of Lake Odessa; aunts and uncles, Greg and Tricia Duits of Woodland, Chris Duits of Sunfield, Eric and Peggy Boom of Sunfield; many great aunts and great uncles whom she adored; and many beloved cousins.
Emily was preceded in death by her grandpa, Terry (Tate) Mix, and great grandpa, Frank Townsend.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Lakewood High School, Lake Odessa, with Pastor Darrel Bosworth officiating. Interment was at Woodland Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Alex Erickson, Brad Elliott, Gibby Johnson, Adam Wrubel, Kyle Butler, Ben Stowell, Isaiah Bosworth and Nick Wieland.

Laura Dunkle
Laura (Drake) Dunkle, 63, of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at her residence, following a long battle with cancer.
Mrs. Dunkle was born July 19, 1941 in Pompei, Mich., the daughter of Harley and Reva (Wood) Drake. Mrs. Dunkle was a member of West Windsor United Brethren Church and Women’s Missionary Society at West Windsor. She held a lay minister license and local conference license since 1986 and oversaw the local jail ministry programs for Ingham and Eaton counties from 1986 until 1993. She was a former Camp Fire Girls and Blue Birds Leader.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Dunkle; two daughters, Lisa (Stanley) Munn of New Sharon, Iowa, Cynthia (Mark) Dawson of Lansing; her mother, Reva Drake of Lansing; five grandchildren, Samantha (James) Farnum. Stanley Robert Munn, Jason, Joshua and Justin Dawson.
Funeral services were held at Crossroads United Brethren Church on June 17, with Pastor Mike Arnold officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Dimondale.

Ila F. Dunn
Ila Fern Dunn, 90, died March 23, 2005.
Ila was born March 20, 1915 in Walnut Ridge, Ark. She was retired from the Michigan Department of Treasury personal income tax division.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Dunn.
Surviving are sons, James R. Dunn, Jerry M. (Linda) Dunn, Jack M. (Sharon) Dunn, David M. Dunn; daughters, Virginia (George) Purcell, Carolyn Davis; 21 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2005 at First Christian Church, 1001 Chester Road, Lansing, with Rev. Rick Boyd officiating.
Lola Dutcher
Lola M. (Layer) Dutcher, 93, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005 at her residence.
Mrs. Dutcher was born Feb. 8, 1912 in Fairgrove, the daughter of Frederick and Clara (Roller) Layer, and had been a Charlotte resident since 1960, coming form Alpena. She was employed at the Eaton County Treasurer’s Office, retiring in 1982. She was a member of First Congregational Church UCC and its Blanche Moyer Circle, and volunteered at American Red Cross blood drives and for Courthouse Square Association. She was honored as “Auxilian of the Year” at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in 2002.
Surviving is: two sons, Thomas (Christi) Dutcher of Shelbyville and James (Missy) Dutcher of New Orleans, La.; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Doug) Reed, Rebecca (Bob) Elkins, Jason (Cassie) Danford and Jarrod Danford; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, D. Wayne Dutcher, in 1993; brother, Rolan (Gladys) Layer; sisters, Viola (Frank) Walden and Erma (Otis) Furman; and a good friend, Lawrence Perry.
Funeral services were held Dec. 23 at First Congregational Church UCC in Charlotte, with Rev. Philip Hobson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Llewellyn J. Edick
Llewellyn James Edick, 83, of Lansing, passed away Jan. 23, 2005.
Llewellyn was born July 16, 1921 in Charlotte, the son of Clarence and Winifred (Collins) Edick. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, class of 1939, and was employed at Michigan Bell for more than 39 years, retiring in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, C. Raymond Edick.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Anita; three daughters, Karen (David) Bursley of Woodland, Linda (Raymond) Anderson of Westphalia, and Regina (Terry) Lyons of Perry; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Marietta Ripley of Charlotte and Marion Ames of Lansing.
Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Interment followed at Deepdale Memorial Gardens.
