Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock, 64, of Bellevue, passed away June 1, 2005.
She was dearly loved by her husband and three sons, who were her pride and joy. Sandra loved life to its fullest and loved everyone, especially her extended family. She respected and loved the personnel at Marshall Oaklawn Hospital, including Dr. Shin; they treated her like the lady she was.
There will be no services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House, 2675 S. Cochran Ave., Charlotte, MI 48813. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Elma G. Burch
Elma Gene Burch, 80 of Sandpoint, Idaho, died Sept. 21, 2005. Elma was born Feb. 6, 1925 in Lansing. She was raised in Vestaburg, and has spent her last four years in Idaho. Elma was the daughter of Cornelius and Esther (Vibber) Nelson.
Elma’s children were a main focus in her life. She was an avid seamstress, along with making all her square dance dresses and matching husband’s vests for the many dances they attended. She also made China Dolls, and enjoyed reading and gardening.
She is survived by daughters, Janice (Gerald) Lovejoy of Eaton Rapids, Patricia Closson of Sandpoint, Idaho, Rebecca (William) Freeman of DeWitt and son Russell Burch, Jr. of Walnut Creek, CA; brothers, Jack (Fran) Gifford of Riverdale, Stan Gifford of Crystal and sister, Dolores Eymann of Lansing; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Russell J. Burch, Sr.; daughter, Karen Sue Burch; sisters, Viviane Nelson, Nila Nelson, Virginia Nelson and Betty Nelson and brother Bill Nelson.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids with Reverend Father Bennett Constantine officiating. Interment will be at Ithaca Cemetery in Ithaca.
Visitation is Sunday, Sept. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a Hospice organization. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Isabelle M. Burkett
Isabelle Marie Burkett, 90, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005.
Mrs. Burkett was born July 8, 1914, the daughter of the late Harry S. Sellen and the late Maude E. (Folk) Sellen.
She is survived by daughters, Flora G. Cousins of Bellevue, and Rachel (James) Clark of Lake Odessa; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Joni Burkett, Emeline Caroline Sellen and Fern Burkett, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Holland Burkett, in 2001; daughters, Rosalie Burkett and Shirley Starkweather; and son, William H. Burkett.
Graveside services were held Jan. 28 at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo Township, with Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Mildred R. Burkett-Forent
Mildred Rhea Burkett-Forent, 94, of Charlotte, died Friday, July 15, 2005 at St. Lawrence Dimondale Center.
Mrs. Forent was born March 9, 1911 in Lansing, the daughter of Frank and Ethel (McConnal) Proctor. She had been a nurse’s aide until her retirement.
She is survived by children, Jackie MacDonald of Maryland, Robert (Mary) Burkett and Bonnie (Gary) Everhart of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Proctor, and a sister, Wilma Laing.
Memorial services were held July 19 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Irma I. Burkhead
Irma I. Burkhead, 93, of Traverse City, formerly of Charlotte and Olivet, died Friday April 22, 2005 in Traverse City.
Mrs. Burkhead was born July 17, 1911 in Brownwood, Texas, the daughter of Charles and Etta (Pinson) Irish and had lived in Traverse City since 1990, coming from Charlotte. She was former co-owner, with her husband M. Donald Burkhead, of Burkhead ‘Funeral Homes of Charlotte and Olivet. She had been a member of First Congregational Church UCC, where she was a member of the church choir. While in Charlotte, she was active in many civic organizations and activities, enjoyed entertaining her friends and was an avid bridge player.
Surviving are her son, M. Douglas (Marguerite) Burkhead of Williamsburg; three granddaughters, Sabrina (Kurt Feikert) Burkhead of Traverse City, Lizabeth (Barry) Riebow of Willamsburg and Danielle (Kevin) Kenworthy of Gallatin, Tenn.; two great grandsons, Spencer Burkhead Riebow and Keaton Kenworthy; and three great granddaughters, Taylor Riebow, Kailee Kenworthy and Kasside Kenworthy.
Funeral services were held April 28 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Z. William Colson officiating. Interment was at Olivet Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte.
Florence Carol Bush
Florence Carol Bush of Dundee, Florida, age 78 died Tuesday, October 18 at the Haines City Health Care Center. She was born on January 9, 1927 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Walter and Florence (Roberts) Bartlett. She attended Eaton Rapids Public Schools graduating in 1946, after taking a year off to help her sick mother.
Carol held a variety of jobs; telephone operator during WWII, secretary for Ken Powers Insurance, cashier for Hausch’s Meat Market and Sparky & Whitey’s Party Store, and press operator at Phillips Screw Manufacturing in Holt. Carol lived in Eaton Rapids until 1980 when she and her husband retired and moved to Dundee, Florida. She loved playing cards, was active on a bowling league for many years and enjoyed golfing several times a week until she became ill two years ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Sally Bennet of Eaton Rapids and Marion Youngs of Saginaw, MI; brother, Daniel Bartlett of Eaton Rapids. Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Walter L. Bush of Dundee, FL; son, W. Thomas (Ruth) Bush of Eaton Rapids; daughters, Linda Hoyland of Lansing and Laura (Charles) Andrews of Mason; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and at Carol’s request, there will be no service.
Marion J. Bush
Marion J. Bush, 62, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at her residence.
Marion was born Jan. 25, 1943 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Kenneth and Irene (Richardson) Ervin and had been a Charlotte resident for 36 years.
Surviving are her son, Brian Sprague of Charlotte; and two sisters, Lawanda Jacks of Ohio and Joan Guerarro of Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bush; brothers, Eugene, Jack, James and Kenneth Ervin Jr.; and a sister, Ruth.
A private memorial gathering has been held.
Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Agnes Butler
Agnes M. (Davidson) Butler, 93, of Charlotte, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
Mrs. Butler was born April 22, 1912 in Bellevue, the daughter of Walter and Jessie (Griffin) Davidson. She had been employed at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing and later at Aluminum Extrusions/Hoover in Charlotte for 11 years, from where she retired.
Surviving is: one daughter, Susan (John) Brandt of Potterville, one son, David Butler of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Jackie Butler of Sunfield; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Butler, and a daughter, Eileen Stevens.
At Mrs. Butler’s request, cremation has taken place. No services will be held.
