LauraBell DeWaters
LauraBell DeWaters, age 81, of Eaton Rapids, died on her birthday, Friday, May 13, 2005 in Lansing.
She was born on Friday, May 13, 1924 in Lansing, the daughter of Charles and Mable Maude (Hopkins) McMann.
Laura was a cook at several restaurants in Eaton Rapids including the Mascot, Whittmore and Baldy’s and helped her husband, Melvin operate the City Landfill for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. in 1986; daughter, Patricia Ann DeWaters in 1990; grandson, Lupe; 4 brothers, Melton, Norman, Alvin, Bob and sisters, Dorothy.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Dianna (Zak) Johnson, of Eaton Rapids, Lori (Bud) Mathews of Onondaga; 2 sons, Julius “Butch” (Irma) DeWaters of Charlotte, Herman Charles DeWaters of Eaton Rapids; 10 grandchildren, including the granddaughter she raised, Tanya-Kay; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Mickey, Larry, George, Lon; 6 sisters, Ella, Pug, Deloris, Barbara Jean, Bonnie, Helen; sister-in-law, “Aunt” Vera; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2005, 1:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Stephen Klink officiating.
Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society in memory of LauraBell DeWaters.
Duane M. Dietrick
Duane M. Dietrick, 74, of Nashville, Mich., died Tuesday, June 28, 2005.
Mr. Dietrick was born Aug. 28, 1930 in Charlotte, the son of Melvin and Ethel (Fisher) Dietrick.
Duane served in the U.S. Air Force and had worked as a fuel station attendant.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, tinkering with automobiles and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Nora L. (Atherton) Dietrick; daughters, Sue (Jack) Raymond of Hastings and Diana Dietrick of Nashville; five grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Dietrick of Leesburg, Fla., Elwyn Dietrick of Woodland; and sisters, Ruth Ann Fosnight of Dimondale and Marlene Helman of North Carolina.
Graveside service was held July 2 at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Homer, Charlotte.
Harold Dingman
Harold Dingman, 85, of Bellevue, died Dec. 22, 2005 at his home.
Mr. Dingman was born July 1, 1920 in Bellevue Township, the son of Ernest and Elsa (Reese) Dingman.
He was a farmer and auctioneer, all of his adult life and lived within a quarter mile of his birthplace.
Harold was well known throughout mid-Michigan as a general purpose and live-stock auctioneer, having sold the weekly livestock auctions in Charlotte, Hastings, Lake Odessa and Battle Creek until his retirement.
Harold loved the farm and most of all his livestock.
He raised Shropshire sheep from 1934 through 2004, when the sheep were moved to his granddaughter’s in Minnesota, milked cows through 1970, and in his later years enjoyed caring for and driving his Percheron horses.
Mr. Dingman was an Eaton County Fair Board member for several years and served on the Bellevue Township board of trustees for 50 years, making him the longest-serving elected official in Michigan when he retired.
He was a past president and longtime secretary-treasurer for the Michigan Sheep Breeders Association, a Dairy Herd Improvement Association board member and a 4-H leader for many years.
Mr. Dingman received the MSB Service to the Sheep Industry Award in 1989.
Harold will be remembered as a caring husband, loving father and spectacular grandpa.
He was a mild-mannered, even-tempered man who loved people.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Velma Jean (Spotts); sons, Doyle (Renee) Dingman, Duane (Janice) Dingman and Dennis (Laraine) Dingman, all of Bellevue; daughter, Diane (Dennis) Kelly of Bellevue; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 26 at Bellevue United Methodist Church, Bellevue, with Rev. Kathy Smith officiating.
Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice of Battle Creek.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Ivan Dodge
Ivan Dodge, age 82, of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, November 30, 2005 in Charlotte.
He was born January 2, 1923 in Windsor Township the son of Lake and Gladys (Berry) Dodge.
Ivan was a retired Fisher Body Employee with 32 1/2 years of service and was a member of the U.A.W. Local #602.
He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Leslie.
Preceding him in death were his parents and 2 brothers, Roy and Francis Robert Dodge.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Lillian; loving son and precious daughter-in-law, Jim and Patsy Dodge of Eaton Rapids; 2 grandsons, Jeremy (Emily) Dodge of Grand Blanc and LCPL Ron Dodge of Camp Lejeune, NC; 2 nieces, 1 nephew and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 5, 2005, from the Bible Baptist Church in Leslie.
Burial followed at the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Okemos.
Judy Lee Dodge
Judy Lee Dodge, of Lansing, age 62, passed away Friday, October 28, 2005 in Lansing.
Judy was born June 26, 1943 in Lansing, MI. She was previously employed with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her son, Tim S. Dodge, sister, Mary E. Warren and father, Harry Wade.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Christie (Dennis) Reynolds of Holt; 4 grandchildren; Amber, Desarae and Dallas Reynolds, Aaron Dodge; mother, Rudy Moon of Eaton Rapids; siblings, Larry (Shelly) Wade, Rick Wade, both of FL, Alice Davis of Lansing, Barbara (Clint) of FL, Peggy (Dave) DeCess of TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with interment following at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Ryan B. Donat-Wenzel
Ryan Ben Donat-Wenzel, 22, of Stacy, Minn., died May 7, 2005 of diabetic complications.
Ryan was a 2000 graduate of Charlotte High School and was employed with Healy-Ruff.
He is survived by his parents, Robert Wenzel and Sandra Donat; sister, Melissa (Gabriel) Fienup; niece, Sophia; grandfather, Allen Wenzel; grandmother, Donna Donat; and many other family members and friends.
Memorial services were held May 11 at First Memorial Waterston Chapel in Minneapolis, Minn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
