Max A. LeFevre

Max A LeFevre, born April 14, 1923 to Owen and Retta LeFevre, with family by his side, passed peacefully on October 21, 2010 at the age of 87.

Max was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He was a decorated WWII Veteran serving in the Army with the 3rd Infantry, making the landing at Anzio and Africa. Max loved mushrooming, his garden and everything he could do outdoors. He also loved sports - playing them and watching them.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, granddaughter, grandson, many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Viola, five daughter: Aneka (Bob) Aulmiller, Anita (Bob) Warner, Debbie Newland, Loretta Bellows, Teresa (Ralph) Locke, 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, his beloved “Sophie cat,”numerous nieces and nephews.

We will forever miss his sense of humor and his great ability to catch fish out of a mud puddle! The family would like to thank Margaret Kyser, and the staff at Eaton Community Hospice for their loving kindness.

A “Celebration of Life” memorial service will be held at the V.F.W. Hall in Springport, Michigan on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Max’s name to the Eaton Community Hospice at 2675 S. Cochran Rd., Charlotte, MI 48813.

Lillian A. Liggett

Lillian A. Liggett, 88, of Olivet, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 25, 2010 with her loving family at her side. Lillian was born Jan. 9, 1922 to Flossie and Russell Weakley of Battle Creek.

Lillian recently celebrated her 88th birthday with a co-birthday celebration with her sister, Margaret Irish, and many family members.

Lillian married John Liggett on May 7, 1938 and raised three children, Carolyn (Ron) Campbell of Olivet, Larry Liggett of Marshall and Janis (Jim) Anderson of Battle Creek. Lillian lived most of her married life in Olivet. She worked for the Kellogg Company for 12 years before retiring due to ill health. She loved her many poodle dogs and would never turn away the many stray animals that always seemed to find their way to her door. Summers were spent with her husband camping at Pine Lake, fishing dancing and hosting their many grandchildren fostering a lifetime of memories and joy. They wintered over 20 years in Weslaco, Texas.

Her family very much enjoyed her annual spaghetti dinners where they would be blessed with her homemade cooking and hospitality. She was totally dedicated to her family.

Lillian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, in 2004; her sister, Eulah Sivits and parents.

She is survived by her children, her sister, Margaret Irish of East Leroy; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Memorial donations may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice.

Lucille Betty Linn

Lucille Betty Linn, 94, of Dimondale passed away Jan. 30, 2010.

Mrs. Linn was born Sept. 8, 1915 in Lansing, the daughter of Frederick and Lena (Bearman) Gackley.

She was a secretary at Potterville Public Schools for 22 years.

Lucille is survived by her children; daughters, Toni (Gerald) Shores and Betty Saylor; son, Donald (Jean) Gardner; eight grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Linn in 1981; sister, Leona Gackley; and granddaughter, Sheri Shores Dyer.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Reverend Paul Lindloff officiating. Interment was in Deepdale Cemetery, Lansing.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Susan B. Komen Foundation or Emanuel First Lutheran Church in Lansing.

Beatrice C. Long

Beatrice C. Long of Eaton Rapids, MI, age 89 died Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Dimondale Nursing Center. Born July 17, 1921 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of David and Ethel (Zentmyer) Peck. Bea was a member of the First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids and a member of the Farmer’s Hall of Fame in Delton. Bea worked many jobs in her life from Horner Woolens, Eaton Stamping, Oldsmobile, Nick’s Pizza, Stewarts Flower Shop and McDonalds. Proceeding her in death were her husband, George in 2005; daughter, Kathy Bennett and son, Dean Peck.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Jerry) Slentz; son, Victor Long; daughter-in-law, Shug Long; son-in-law, Gary Bennett; 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Richard Learch; many nieces and nephews and special niece Charlene James.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. For online condolences, go to www.SkinnerFuneralHome.com.

Philip Ray Long

Philip Ray Long of Lansing, formerly of Eaton Rapids, age 45, passed away on March 18, 2010 at Sparrow Hospital with his family by his side, after a brief illness. Phil was born in Eaton Rapids, March 23, 1964, the son of James Max and LaRae May (Beck) Lon. He loved music and could out move anyone on the dance floor. Phil had the most supportive circle of friends a person could ask for and a caring heart in return. His laugh and sarcastic humor will be missed.

He is survived by his partner of 16 years, Mark Bauer of Lansing; father James (Leslie) and sister Shelli (Kurt McCarrick) of Eaton Rapids; adored nieces Margeaux Long, Maci and Morgan Heintz; several aunts, uncles, cousins, many special friends, and dogs Roxanne and PeeWee. Phil was preceded in death by his beloved mother, LaRae Smith, in 2008.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Visitation with the family will be held two hours prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, www.sahslansing.org/support/donate.php.

Van D. Long, Sr.

Van D. Long, Sr., died Monday, March 1, 2010 at age 89 while at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. He was born to Don E. and Alma (Van Duesen) Long in Eaton Rapids Township.

He attended the Bentley grade school and graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1939.

Van was an avid fisherman and hunter and logged many hours as a small airplane pilot. He retired from Industrial Metal Products Corp. in Lansing as their hydraulics leader. Van served as Mayor of the City of Potterville for nine years during his 20+ years of service on the council.

Max, his only sibling preceded him in death in 1987 as did his granddaughter, Nikki, in 1990.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Esther (LaParl); sons, Jon (Heather), Van II (Phyllis), Richard, Don C. and daughter, Marianne Roberts; stepchildren, Bonnie (James) Young and Ken Hathaway plus nephew, James Long; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at a later date.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Potterville United Methodist Church or to the Potterville-Benton Township Fire Department.

John Loucks

John Loucks, 82, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010. He was born May 4, 1928 in Charlotte, the son of Lawrence and Ruth (Wyndett) Loucks. John was employed by Consumers Energy, retiring after 40 years, 17 of which he was a supervisor. He served in WWII as a member of the Michigan State Troops from 1944-1946 and as a US Marine from 1946-1947, also in the US Army in the Korean War Era from 1950-1952. He grew up on the family farm outside of town on Lansing Road. John was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2406 for 56 continuous years, American Vets, Charlotte Masonic Lodge, Marine Corp League, the Charlotte Eagles and a member of Charlotte American Legion Post #42. He served or was involved in the Eaton county Chairman for Michigan Veterans Trust fund approximately 20 years, Charlotte Fire Department volunteer and assisting with the Christmas Kiddies for 24 years, Special Deputy Eaton county Sheriff’s Department for handicap parking for 10 years, Veterans of Foreign War Trustee for 56 continuous years, past President of the Eaton County Buck Club. He enjoyed serving community and people, he helped with transportation for disabled veterans or their family members, was an American Red Cross Blood Donor, volunteered to help with dinners for the service organizations he was involved in, put up flags at Maple Hill Cemetery in honor of veterans, organized the cancer smorgasbord for 47 years and assisted in the Memorial Day parade line up for over 30 years, starting promptly at 11 a.m. “Sharp”. He generously gave monetary contributions to HGB Hospital, Easter Seals, United Way, American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, American Heart Association and Michigan Blind Veterans on an annual basis.

He will be greatly missed by his family who he loved and was very supportive of.

He is survived by his son, Mike (Deb) Loucks of Charlotte; daughter, Nancy Loucks of California; two grandchildren, William and Mari Ann; brother, L.F. “Bud” Loucks of Charlotte; godsons, Peyton and Dylon Durrett and significant other, Nine Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Marian in 1990.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor John Colegrove officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Charlotte Public Library.

Nathan C. Loveless

Nathan Charles Loveless, 28, of Eaton Rapids, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 24, 2010 in DeTour Village, Mich. Nate attended Everett High School, Lansing Community College and was a Master Mechanic. Nate loved everything about cars. He repaired engines but also restored classic cars. He was a member of Lansing’s City Limits Car Club. Nate loved listening to music, playing drums, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, dirt biking, fishing, deer hunting, and camping in Gaylord. He enjoyed his C.B. buddies and tinkering with his collection of C.B. Radios. He enjoyed time spent with his many friends. Nate also enjoyed family, WWII history, and learning about antiques.

Nate was preceded in death by his father, Harry “Butch” Loveless; and grandparents, Edwin Mark Tominack, and Harry and Margaret Loveless.

Nate is survived by his mother and step-father, Nancy and James Gloden of Crystal, Mich.; his grandmother, Pauline Tominack of DeTour Village; aunts and uncles, Eva and Eric Crandall of Charlotte, and John and Maryann Loveless of Grand Ledge; cousins, Brandie Locke, Cheyne (Anne) Locke, Ryan Loveless, Tyler Loveless, Lindsy Crandall, Aaron (Krisi) Crandall, Kelsey Crandall and many loving and caring friends. Services were held Friday, January 29, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church, 122 S. Pennsylvania Avenue in Lansing. Arrangements were made by Reamer Galer Funeral Home of Pickford, Mich.
