Kris Davis

Kris Davis, 49, of Charlotte, MI died Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Mr. Davis was born May 17, 1961 in Lansing, MI the son of Romaine and Eugina (English) Davis.

He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Davis of Lansing; son, Kyle (Amber) Davis of Lansing; daughter, Jessica Gilman of Battle Creek; 3 grandchildren; brother, Kim (Peggy) Davis; sister, Roxanne (John) Ripley and step-mother, Kim Davis. He was preceded in death by his father, Romaine “Abe” Davis.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI with Reverend Charles Jensen officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House.

Ronald “Woodsy Owl” Davis

Ronald “Woodsy Owl” Davis of Eaton Rapids, age 57, passed away in Eaton Rapids, January 28, 2010. He was born in Lansing April 23, 1952, the son of Robert and Rose Marie (Scott) Davis. Ronald graduated in 1971 from Everett High School in Lansing. He retired from General Motors in 2001 and was also a member of the UAW. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Ronald is survived by his daughters, Shelly Marie Davis of Eaton Rapids, Becky (Josh) Mollette of Charlotte; son, Ronald (Tanya) Davis of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Brandon, Savannah and Abigail Davis, Ashley Davis, Jordan Hagerty, Kameron Marr, all of Eaton Rapids, Austin, Dallas and Brandon Mollette of Charlotte; mother, Rose Marie Walker; 6 brothers. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 31, 2001 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charity. .

William I. “Bill” Davis

William Irving “Bill” Davis, 64, of Bellevue, died December 16, 2010 at Battle Creek Health System.

He was born November 23, 1946, the son of Irvin C. Davis and Hazel (Woodhams) Hurt in Battle Creek.

Bill graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. Bill married Joyce Farkas in Battle Creek on Sept. 3, 1966. He worked as the Divisional Manager electrician with Delta Electric in Lansing and as an electrician with Leet Electric of Kalamazoo for a total of thirty three years retiring in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Farkas) Davis of Bellevue; daughter, Sheri (Kirk) Hyde of Bellevue; granddaughter, Dakota Hyde; his mother, Hazel Hurt of Bronson; brothers, Bob Davis of Dillingham, Alaska and Mick (Stephanie) Davis of Bronson. Bill is also survived by his nephews, Adam, Paul and Craig Davis. He was preceded in death by his father.

Bill loved motorcycles, sprint cars, hunting, vacationing in Florida and deep sea fishing. He enjoyed watching wildlife and being outdoors. He was a member of the I.B.E.W., American Motorcycle Association, NRA and Ducks Unlimited.

The family received friends on Monday, December 20, 2010 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Bellevue First Baptist Church, where memorial services took place at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Bellevue First Baptist Church or the Humane Society of Eaton County.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Clifford “Tuke” Dawson Jr.

Clifford “Tuke” Dawson Jr. of Eaton Rapids, age 86, passed away October 13, 2010. He was born November 15, 1923 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Clifford and Vina (Miller) Dawson. Clifford retired from Eaton Stamping after 30 years of service. He enjoyed going to the lake, fishing, hunting and bowling. Clifford belonged to Miller’s coffee “liars club”.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Dawson of Eaton Rapids; sons, Kenneth R. Reed of Leslie, Michael J. (Carolyn) Reed of Leslie, William C. (Joyce) Dawson of Eaton Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Passick) Dawson in 1995 and his parents.

Funeral services were held October 16, 2010 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Pastor Steve Klink officiated. Interment followed at Munger Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.

Louise M. Day

Louise M. Day, 84, died May 30, 2010. Louise was born November 12, 1925 in Ypsilanti, MI, the daughter of Ray and Minnie (Richter) Wright.

Louise was young at heart and had a wonderful sense of humor. We will all miss her laughter and wisdom. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, computer games and email. She loved being a grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, George Day; 6 children, Martha (Ken) Powelson of Charlotte; George (Rose) Day of Scottsdale, AZ; Lorraine (Carl) Burton of Charlotte; Diane Day of Okemos; Pat (Bev) Day of Charlotte and Jennifer (Ed) Dunton of Tega Cay, SC; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; brothers Paul Wright of Jonesville, MI; and Ray (Fay) J. Wright of Willis, and sister Ella Parsons of Fredericksburg, MD; sisters-in-law, Barbara (George) Carpenter of Ann Arbor; Marie (David) Laskey of Milan, MI; June Hutting of Whitmore Lake; Rose (Rick) Recchia of Willis; brothers-in-law Joseph Day of Bradenton, FL and Roger (Claudia) Day of Manchester. She is also survived by numerous friends, especially her many friends at the Eaton Place. She is predeceased by her stillborn Son, Liam Day; parents Ray and Minnie Wright; sisters, Mildred and Donna and adopted sister Arlene.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home. Interment will be at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Tuesday, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice.

Zelma DeHaan

Zelma (Yeager) DeHaan, 100, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Eaton Community Hospice House. Mrs. DeHaan was born ay 25, 1909 in Belgium and arrived in the United States in March of 1920.

She was a graduate of Charlotte High School, Class of 1931 and Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Class of 1935. She joined the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in 1926 and was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Naomi Circle.

She was married to Henry DeHaan in 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1970.

Survivors include friends, cousins, nieces and nephews, including cousin, Jacquelyn Pulford of Holt and special friend, Sharon Martin of Traverse City.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to the Lawrence Ave. United Methodist Church or to Eaton Community Hospice. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Myrtle Isabell Delano

Passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the age of 95. Born June 27, 1915 to Lewis and Blanche (Dennis) Dietrich in Alma, Michigan.

Myrtle graduated from Mason High School. She married her husband of 65 years Rollin Delano, and had 3 children that she raised in Eaton Rapids. Myrtle enjoyed spending her time in the garden, sewing, playing bingo, and taking deer hunting trips up north with her husband. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Rollin, and granddaughter; Colleen Converse.

Myrtle is survived by her three children; Patricia (Jerry) Crandell, Dave Delano, and Gloria Delano, 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 1 great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. from the Woodlawn Cemetery in Leslie, MI. .

John “Jack” Dempsey

John “Jack” Dempsey of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Adrian, age 77, passed away at his home, Thursday, April 15, 2010. He was born in Adrian, MI, January 7, 1933, the son of Bernard and Helen (Keebler) Dempsey. Jack was a 1952 graduate of Adrian Highs School. He went on to attend Adrian College and earned a Bachelor’s degree in science. He worked for General Motors Fisher Body and retired in 1995 after 19 years of service. Jack served his country during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Adrian.

Jack is survived by his wife Joan (Beels) Dempsey of Eaton Rapids; children, Jeanine Cowles of Dimondale, Jennifer (Allen) Kerby of Eaton Rapids, John W. Dempsey Jr. of Eaton Rapids; 5 grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Cowles, Krista, Brandon and Austin Kerby; brother, Thomas Dempsey of Adrian; sister, Patricia (Robert) Ward of Adrian. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Kevin Cowles.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. Father Alan Wakefield officiated. Interment followed at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lansing, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of your choice, the Eaton Rapids Senior Center, 201 Grand St. Eaton Rapids or the Food for the Poor Inc.

The family would like to thank Great Lakes Home Healthcare and Hospice for the wonderful care given to Jack.
