Charles “Chuck” E. Cribley
Charles “Chuck” E. Cribley of Eaton Rapids, MI, age 81 died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at a Lansing Hospital. Born August 13, 1928 in Potterville, the son of Emanuel and Irene (Merrill) Cribley. Chuck was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1946. He retired as a Supervisor for General Motors Oldsmobile Division in Lansing. Chuck was an avid fisherman, summers and winters; he enjoyed playing cards with friends and family; but his greatest love was his family. Preceding him in death were brothers, Richard and Bill Cribley and sister, Louise Babcock.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Jean; 3 children, Robert (June) Cribley of Eaton Rapids, Linda (Steve) Miller of Eaton Rapids and Dana (Jackie) Cribley of Lansing; 7 grandchildren, Chuck (Katy) Cribley of Eaton Rapids, Shaun (Kevin) Havert of Hudsonville, Tim (Shannon) White of Eaton Rapids, Jaye Miller of Eaton Rapids, Kasarah Preston of Eaton Rapids, Rob (Kim) Cribley of St. Johns and Shandra (Jacob) French of Charlotte; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Joe Cribley of Eaton Rapids; sisters, Betty Adkins of Charlotte and Clarabelle Scutt of Lake City; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, 2010 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Charles E. Cribley.
Gerald O. Cross
Gerald Orla Cross, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children at the Eaton Community Hospice on Thursday, October 21, 2010. Jerry was born June 27, 1927 on the family farm in Montcalm County, Douglas Township, the fifth child of Orla and Alta (Comden) Cross.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Alger and Thelma Demorest; brothers, Howard (Ila), Theo (Barbara); sister, Loreen (Henry) Novenske; an infant sister and a granddaughter, Heather Cooper.
He cared for his beloved wife, Alice, through her struggle with Alzheimer’s disease and she preceded him in death in 1996. Jerry served as a Medical Corpsman in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. He worked at Aluminum Extrusions for 38 years and helped neighbors on their farms for many years after his retirement. Jerry and Alice lived in their Otto Road home in Charlotte from 1954 until each of their respective passings. He raised many pigs, cattle, ponies, horses and mules and dearly loved his many dogs and cats. He loved to fish and hunt.
Gerald is survived by his one remaining sibling Earl (Betty); his children, Sam (Kathy) Cross; Julie (Chuck) Cooper; Patty (Kevin) Braithwaite; grandchildren, Dave, Jon, Jim, Lisa and Bob Cross, Melissa Cooper and Tamara Little, Jessica, Daniel and Katie (Ryan Starkweather) Boucher; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Interment took place Monday, October 25 at Maple Hill Cemetery. Jerry has requested that there be no funeral service and that he be pulled to his final resting place by horses, a service which Steve Newman kindly agreed to provide.

Rosamond “Rosie The Avon Lady” Cupp
Rosamond “Rosie The Avon Lady” Cupp of Eaton Rapids, age 92, passed away in Eaton Rap[ids, April 2, 2010. She was born in Homer Twp. the daughter of Seth and Mary (Mead) Whitcomb. Rosie helped out on the family farm and raised 5 boys along with her husband Roy. She was a room mother for all of her boys and a 4-H leader for many years. Rosie enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening with her vegetables and flowers and was an Avon Lady for over 59 years.
She is survived by her son, Leroy Cupp of Eaton Rapids, Karl (Anne) Cupp of Vermontville, Gordon (Carma) Cupp of Lansing, Gary Cupp of Eaton Rapids and Phillip (Teresa) Cupp of Tompkins Center; 12 grandchildren, Krystal, Adam, Jennifer, Lauri, Todd, Brian, Eric, Jordan, Nikki, Taylor, Charlie and Kent; 6 great grandchildren. Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy in 1991 and 2 brothers, Eugene and Seth Whitcomb.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, with Pastor John Metcalf officiating. Interment will be at Brickyard Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice, 2316 S. Cedar St. Lansing, MI 48910.
Alton Keith Curtis
Alton Keith Curtis, age 49 of Eaton Rapids died March 20, 2010 unexpectedly at his residence. born September 17, 1961 in Norfolk, Virginia the son of Harold “Lonnie” and Diana (Brown) Curtis. Alton was the former manager of Mr. B’s Grocery Store in Eaton Rapids. He served in the Navy following graduation from Eaton Rapids High school. Alton was an active individual in Eaton Rapids who loved fishing and joking with friends.
He is survived by his mother, Diana (Kenneth) Uhl of Mt. Juliet, TN; father, Lonnie (Judith) Curtis of Eaton Rapids; brothers, Lee (Laura) Curtis of Brighton, and Joshua (LeAnn) Curtis of Eaton Rapids; sister, Rebecca (Paul) Jackson of Oakland, CA; grandmother, Bette Brown of Mt. Juliet, TN; close friend, Jenny Crosby; 4 god-children, Brooke and Jordy Crosby, T.M. and Ace Russell; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be Saturday, March 27th at 1:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the service time. Gilbert N. Cutter
Gilbert Nelson Cutter, 74, joined his savior on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010. Born May 23, 1935 to Ted and Bea Cutter, he spent his life giving to his family, church and community.
Gil was devoted to his wife of 55 years Evelyn Cutter, a faithful member of Charlotte First Baptist Church and he retired from consumer Energy after more than 30 years. He proudly served his country
in the Michigan National Guard.
He enjoyed bowling, was an avid golfer and never met a stranger. Gil will join his parents and granddaughter Ruth Cutter, who preceded him in death.
Keeping his memories are Evelyn Cutter; children, Brenda (Jim) Caplan, Steve (Sue) Cutter, Lynda Fisher, Ken (Deb) Cutter; sisters, Joyce (Woody) Rooker and Carolyn Waterbury; grandchildren, Cassandra Fisher, Steve (Sarah) Cutter, Jamie Fisher, Rebekah (Brian) Shearer, Liz Cutter, Staci Cutter, David Caplan, Elizabeth Caplan and Sarah Cutter; great grandsons, Austen Cutter and Wyatt Shearer, along with a large extended family and special friends.
Family and friends gathered to share at Pray Funeral Home, in Charlotte, on Thursday, Feb. 11. A celebration of his life was held at Charlotte First Baptist on Friday, Feb. 12. In memory of Gil, please consider a donation to Charlotte First Baptist or Great Lakes Hospice.
Rose Marie “Aunt B” D’Aloisio
Rose Marie “Aunt B” D’Aloisio, East Lansing, was born to immigrant parents in Denver, Colo., on July 19, 1918. As a young girl, orphaned by the untimely loss of both parents, she lived with and was cared for by her older sister, Jeanette.
Jeanette married Clarence Jerome Tinker on April 23, 1930 and they returned, with Aunt B, to his native state of Michigan. They moved to East Lansing on Sept. 13, 1935 where they lived together in the same home for over 70 years. Rose Marie graduated from Michigan State College in 1940 and Lansing Business Institute in 1941.
She was employed by MSC in secretarial positions of increasing responsibility in Chemistry, Placement, and the Graduate School until 1960 when she left to serve Dr. Branford P. Millar, who was leaving MSU to become President of Portland State University. In 1971, following Dr. Millar’s retirement, she returned to MSU as Secretary to the Registrar until her own retirement in 1981. She was a loyal Spartan and proud to have held the same football tickets with her fellow Senior Secretaries, Ruth Jameyson and Barbara Hannah, for over 50 years. She helped innumerable students in need and willingly cared for a host of neighbors and friends.
Rose Marie supported St. John’s Student Parish by faithful attendance and helped prepare the weekend collections for deposit every Monday for many years. Above all, she was an exemplary companion to the family and thankful for her many friends, particularly Margaret Beahan, Liz Schweitzer and the weekly meeting of the “Applebees”.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Fuschino of Denver, Colo.; nephew, David Warren Tinker in 1960; her beloved brother-in-law, Clarence J. Tinker in 1971; niece Mary Ann tinker, Md., in 1999; and sister, Jeanette in 2003. Surviving are her nephew, C.N. “Tom” (Janice Wheeler) Tinker of Buchanan Dam, Texas and Traverse City; grand niece, Jill Tinker (Churchell W. Duncan, III) Duncan and three grand nephews, Scott Wheeler (Allyson Andrews) Tinker, Mark Andrew (Kristen Male) Tinker and David Tinker (Diane) Gerulis; nine great grandnephews and nieces, Churchell W. Duncan, IV, Patrick Tinker Duncan, Nathan Scott Tinker, Claire Elizabeth Tinker, Harrison Andrew Tinker, Garrett Andrew Tinker and Addison Nichole Tinker; also nephews, Robert and Richard Fuschino of Denver, Colo. and their families; and her cat, “Gambit”.
From the vantage point of nine decades, Aunt B looks back on a life of service. One that has known many joys, some deep sorrows but most important, devoted to her family, friends, employers and church. Private interment will be held in the summer of 2010.
Rhea Viola Dandurand
Rhea Viola Dandurand of Eaton Rapids, MI, age 73, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010. She was born in Ingham Co MI on April 14, 1937, the daughter of Cliffton James and Alma Lucille (Barthalamew) Dowding. Rhea was a homemaker. She loved to remodel the house and property. Rhea was an active member of the Eaton Rapids American Legion. She worked for IGA in the Bakery. Her hobbies included knitting and sewing.
Rhea is survived by her daughters, Connie Erickson of Mason, Peggy (Scott DeBaun) Schnepp of Olivet; sons, James Schnepp of Eaton Rapids, Earl (Elaine) Schnepp of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Robert Pierce, Lisa (Rob) Backus, Michael Smith, Deven and Nicole DeBaun, James “Jake” Schnepp, Thomas and Sarah Schnepp; great grandchildren, Hope Pierce and Jackson Backus; 2 brothers, Robert and Clifton “Spike” (Sally) Dowding of Duck Lake, MI. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Schnepp and Hector Dandurand and 9 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held on Monday June 28, 2010 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice, 2316 S. Cedar St. Lansing, MI 48910.
Gerald “Joe” Danek
Gerald “Joe” Danek of Leslie, age 69, passed away in Eaton Rapids August 28, 2010. He was born in Milwaukee, WI, October 15, 1940 the son of Frank and Josephine (Dykas) Danek. He served in the US Marines in the Philippine Islands from 1959-1963. Joe retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. He was an avid bowler at Royal Scott Bowling Alley in Lansing. Joe loved to travel, play cards and was an excellent photographer.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ellen (Ken) Ireland of Eaton Rapids, Susan Raye (John) Ziegler of Springport, Sandra Lee Danek of Lansing; special friend, Trish Wills of Battle Creek; 3 grandchildren, Cody J.D. Whittum, Katy C. Whittum, Mackenzie J.L.P. Tracy; 4 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Pastor Ken Ridge officiated. Interment followed at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Calhoun Co. MI. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 1433 Franklin St. Haslett, MI 48840.
Betty J. Danku
Betty Jane (Baum) Danku, 84, of Delton, died April 23, 2010. Betty was born November 3, 1925 in Eaton County to Daniel and Goldie (Gettys) Baum. Betty worked as a shoe manager at Shoppers Fair from 1965 to 1975 and then worked for JC Penny 1976-1989. She was a former Burroughs School Board Member, in which she was a secretary and treasurer. She was an assistant leader in Girl Scouts in Johnston Township, a member of the Barry County Extension Club, and a member of the Valentine Center since 1991, which is now the Burnham Brook Center. Betty was also a member of the Pleasantview Family Church in Lacey. Betty is survived by her two children, Beatrice (Mike) Cole and Frank “Danny” (Sandra) Danku; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; one brother, James (Delores) Baum; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis “Frank” Danku in 1990 and her brothers, Francis Baum.
Funeral services to celebrate Betty’s life were held Tuesday, April 27 at the Pleasantview Family Church, officiated by Rev. Steve Olmstead. Interment followed at Banfield Cemetery.
