Gage Haskins
Gage Haskins, 60, died of a heart attack in his Myrtle Beach, SC home on Friday, January 22, 2010. He was born July 8, 1949. He was a 1967 graduate of Charlotte (MI) High School. He also had a BA from University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Masters Degree in Urban Planning form York University in Toronto, Canada. He had many business ventures, most having to do with Real Estate and Sales. Gage will be remembered for his unique and colorful personal style and his propensity for the outrageous. He was undoubtedly, one of a kind.
Gage was in the Marine Corps for nearly three years from 1967 to 1969. He fought in the Vietnam War and received three Purple Hearts. He was a celebrated war hero who sacrificed himself for his country. His military record was one of honor and patriotism.
He is survived by his wife, Belinda; his mother, Dorothy Black (Haskins); his two brothers, Ron and Mark; his grandson, Chase; and was preceded in death by his only child, John Eric, and his father, Gerald Haskins. He is also survived by two step-sons, Brandon and Bradley and four nieces and three nephews.
A memorial service and internment of ashes will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on April 15, 2010.
Marion C. Hastings
Marion C. Hastings, age 87, died July 16, 2010; born February 18, 1923 in Obion, Tennessee. Mr. Hastings was a resident of Charlotte for 50 years and retired from Oldsmobile after 34 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Army for 20 months in the Pacific Theatre; attended Dimondale United Methodist Church; loved bowling and golfing.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Joyce; son, Sterling “Skip”; grandchildren, Nicholas Dennison and Sarina (R.J.) Wells; great granddaughter, Nevaeh E. Wells; and sisters, Dorothy (David) Odom and Kennon Hatt.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI with Rev. Joe Houston officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Browne-Cavender Post #148 of Mason, MI. The family will receive friends on Monday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to Dimondale United Methodist Church, 6801 Creyts Road, Dimondale, MI 48821 in memory of Mr. Hastings.
Sandra “Sandy” Kay Haubert
Sandra “Sandy” Kay Haubert of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, beloved wife, mother and grandmother departed this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the age of 62. She was born April 29, 1948 in Alliance, Ohio, the daughter of Merton and Margaret (Patrick) Kress. Sandy retired after 26 years as Secretary for the Northwestern School in Eaton Rapids and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 40 loving years, Mark; daughter, Beth (Chris) Regner of Troy and son, Matt (Kalynn) Haubert of Brownstown, MI; 4 grandchildren, Jack and Grace Haubert and Sean and Caleb Regner; 2 brothers, Dave (Jean) Kress and Roger Kress all of Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held July 19, 2010 at the Robbins United Methodist Church at 6419 Bunker Hwy. Eaton Rapids 48827. Danni L. Hawkins
Danni Lee Hawkins, 24, of Marshall, passed away in Hanover, Mich. on Sunday, July 4, 2010. He was born in Eaton Rapids on August 13, 1985, the son of William and Charlene (Nelson) Hawkins. Danni worked as an oil well serviceman in the oil industry, where he was known as a hard worker who could get the job done. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, mud bogging and watching drag racing. Danni loved his family very much.
He is survived by his parents; brother, Tom (Molly) Hawkins; sisters, Mandi (Mykel) Grigg, Sherri Hawkins, Julie Hawkins. He was a beloved uncle to his nephews, Trevor, Gage, Connor and Logan. Danni will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service was held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Assembly of God Church, 1100 East Clinton Trail in Charlotte (Directly across from Meijers).
Arrangements were entrusted to the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
Lola E. Hayden
Lola E. Hayden of Eaton Rapids, MI, age 91 died on Monday, June 14, 2010 at her daughter’s residence in Temple, Texas under the care of her daughter and son-on-law, Paula and Bud. Born June 17, 1918 in Hastings, MI; the daughter of William and Bertha (Bridgeman) Stanley. Lola had worked for General Motors, Oldsmobile Division for 27 years retiring in 1979. She was a member of the U.A.W. Local #652, a member of the Eaton Rapids Assembly of God Church and a 25 year member of the Women’s Ministries. Preceding her in death was her husband, Ray Hayden in 2003; three brothers, William “Bus”, Orland and Donald Stanley.
Surviving are two children, Paula (Bud) Crutsinger of Temple, TX, and Tom “Storm” (Janet) Taylor of Okemos; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; a loving sister, Beulah Leatherberry of Eaton Rapids and numerous nieces and nephews as well as special caregiver, Patricia Fearce of Temple, TX.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with burial following in the Deepdale Memorial Park in Lansing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m.
Gerald C. Hayes
Gerald “Jerry” C. Hayes, of Olivet, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 24, at the age of 61. Jerry was born Oct. 25, 1948 to Elzie and Virginia (Redfield) Hayes in Charlotte.
Jerry was a trustee at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Charlotte, and an avid NASCAR fan. He loved camping all summer at the Sherwood Forest in Olivet, and was given the title of “Mayor” of Sherwood. Jerry worked several jobs; as a farmhand, cement truck driver for Grand Delta, and then laid cable.
Jerry is preceded in death by both of his parents.
Jerry leaves behind his loving wife of 34 years, Margaret Hayes; sons, Jerry L. Hayes (Jessie wells), Jeff Hayes; granddaughter, Jordyn (Trsyer) Friar; grandsons, Kam Hayes, Noelan Hayes; great granddaughter, Jaslynn Friar; brothers, Denny (Roxy) Hayes, Fred (Debra) Hayes, Randi (Terri) Hayes; sister, Jodi (Douglas Sr.) Rodebaugh; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. There was a celebration of Jerry’s life at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Charlotte on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010.

David H. Healey
David Howard Healey, 61, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away peacefully Friday, March 5, 2010, in his home after a nearly year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on Aug. 21, 1948, in Charlotte, to Howard Benson and Majel (Dorriell) Healey.
David graduated from Olivet High School in the class of 1966. David was employed as a security guard at University Park Mall in Mishawaka. He was a U.S. Army veteran and received a bachelor and master’s degree from Indiana University South Bend. He was a founding member of the Civil Rights Heritage Center at IUSB and Director of the Oral History Project.
David was preceded in death by his father, Howard Benson Healey; a brother, Gerald Healey; and a sister, Janet Wanzer.
On Aug. 4, 2006, in Mishawaka, Ind., David married the former Kathy A. (Grall) Strycker. She survives in Mishawaka, Ind. Also surviving are his mother, Majel (Doriell) Healey of Apopka, Fla.; sister, Mary Anne (Joe) Hines of Apopka, Fla.; son, Matt Healey of Mishawaka, Ind.; and daughter, Josette (Kenny) Herrick of Orlando, Fla.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Elkhart Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.

Samuel W. Hebenstreit
Samuel W. Hebenstreit, 61 formerly of Olivet died Sept. 12, 2010.
Surviving is a son Tony Hebenstreit, cremation has taken place.
Ruth Ann Heightchew
Ruth Ann (Stirn) Heightchew, age 70, of Lansing passed away peacefully on August 4 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1958. Ruth attended LCC to become an LPN then worked at St. Lawrence Hospital and an affiliate anesthesiologist office beginning in 1960. she married Robert Earl Heightchew Jr. in 1962, had two sons Brian and David and divorced in 1982. Ruth retired from Blue Care Network Health Central in 2003 after 20 years of service.
Ruth enjoyed flower gardening, NASCAR and attending the many sporting events, band concerts and dance recitals of her grandchildren and great grandchildren in the Charlotte, Midland and Ovid-Elsie School Districts. She adored and enjoyed all of her adopted cats and dogs over the years, doing jigsaw puzzles, needlepoint and spending time with her friends.
Ruth is survived by sons, Brian (Mary) of Charlotte and David (Cindy) of Elsie and six grandchildren, Niki (Jason), Sarah, Bruce, Justin, Garrett, Echo and three great grandchildren, Cole, Brenna, Kaylee, Morris the cat and her dog Sissy. She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Dorothy Stirn and great granddaughter Olivia.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Elsie American Legion Post 502, located at 220 S. Ovid Street in Elsie with a luncheon to follow.
