Richard W. Hilderley

Richard W. Hilderley, 78, of Charlotte, died Saturday, September 18, 2010. He was born January 10, 1932 in Jackson, the son of Theron and Helen (Clark) Hilderley. Richard was a Sergeant with the Michigan State Police for 28 years. Following his retirement he became a Magistrate for Eaton county, Mich. He also served in the Navy during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diane; daughter, Janet (Rob Ervine) Hilderley of Chelsea and Virginia (Mike) Krauss of Clinton; son, Richard (Amy) Hilderley of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Salena Heimerdinger, Taylor Krauss, Spencer Krauss, Marlena Hilderley, Madison Hilderley Melanie Hilderley and brother, David (Barbara) Hilderley of Jackson.

Graveside services were held Friday, September 24, 2010 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, with Pastor Phil Hobson officiating.

Richard W. Hill

Richard Wayne Hill, Jr., 42, of Lake Odessa, formerly of Potterville, died as the result of a motorcycle accident on Sunday afternoon, July 25, 2010. Rich was born in Charlotte, Mich. on Nov. 20, 1926 to Richard Hill, Sr. and Anne (Smith) Hill Aseltine. Rich served his country in the US Army from 1986-1989. He was united in marriage to Georgina Fry on April 3, 1993. Rick was currently employed as a Program Computer Analyst by the State of Michigan. For several years Rich was a Real Estate Agent/Broker in the Lansing area. Rick held a Second Degree Black Belt in Okinawa Shido-kan at the Lansing Original Okinawa Karate Dojo. Rich was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, and had shared a baptism with his children a week prior to his death.

He is survived by his wife, Georgina; Rich was the proud father of Colton Richard Hill and Cheyenne Katherine Hill; his faithful companion, Oscar; father, Richard Hill, Sr. (Betty Saylor); mother, Anne (Allen) Aseltine; sister, Shelley (John) Bott; grandmother, Joyce Smith; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kenneth and Georgia Fry; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Mildred Steele and Carl Smith, Jr.; and his uncle, Michael Hill.

A funeral service was held Wednesday July 28 at the Lakewood United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to an education fund for Rick’s children, which will be set up at Union Bank in Lake Odessa. Thelma E. (White) Hilliard

Thelma E. (White) Hilliard of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, age 93, died Sunday, November 28, 2010. Thelma was born August 31, 1917 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Harvey and Mabel White. Thelma was a devoted mother and housewife. She enjoyed spending time with her family and worked along with her husband on the family farm.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (Don) Janecke and Phyllis (Phil) Brooks all of Eaton Rapids; son, Kenneth Hilliard of Sacramento, CA; 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Bernice Gettys of Charlotte and April Crandall of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. John; her brothers, Carl, Cecil, Dale, Donald, Gerald, Roland and Russell.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home at 315 S. River St. Eaton Rapids with Pastor Mark Eckert of the Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Munger Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those desiring, may make contributions to New Haven Foster Care Home at 230 Hoehn Court, Dimondale, MI 48821.

Alice F. Hilton

Alice Faye Hilton, 66, of Dowling, Mich., was taken into the loving hands of our Lord on Feb. 18, 2010. Alice was born to George and Mary Tolgo on March 28, 1943 in Turner, Mich.

Alice was a loving wife, mother, friend and grandmother. She retired after 30 years of federal service. Alice began her federal career on Sept. 6, 1961 with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. and transferred in August 1962 to the newly renamed Defense Logistics Services Center which was moving from Washington to Battle Creek, reporting for work in Battle Creek on Jan. 7, 1963. Alice met and marring James Hilton, a fellow DLSC employee in 1971. She decided to leave DLSC in 1973 to pursue other interest, one of which was to become a registered nurse, and from 1976 to 1980 she worked as a psychiatric nurse at the VA medical center in Battle Creek, and at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. 1980 brought Alice back to DLSC; she was promoted several times throughout the years and retired March 28, 1998 as a logistic systems analyst.

Alice and her family lived in the Lacy area since 1979. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Charlotte where she had served as Sunday school teacher and Superintendent. She had volunteered as a foster mother, a Big Sister, a Red Cross Gray Lady, as a member of the Battle Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, as well as staffing blood pressure clinics. She also had some entrepreneurial talents, in that she set up, and was advisor to the first Junior Achievement Computer Co. in the United States. She also established and chaired Easter baskets each year to shut-ions and nursing homes in the Charlotte and Battle Creek areas. Alice enjoyed “people helping”, music bowling, spending time with family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Tolgo (1966); father, George Tolgo (1994) and mother, Mary Tolgo (2002).

She is survived by husband, James Hilton; son, John (Amy) Hilton; five grandchildren, John Hilton, Jr., Calvin Hilton, Bridgett Hilton, Ashley Henning and Amanda Rooney; 12 brothers and sisters; many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Per Alice’s wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Michigan Anatomical Donation Program.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the First Lutheran Church, 550 E. Shepherd St., Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University of Mich., Anatomical Donation Program, 1137 E. Catherine St., 3626 Medical Science Bldg. 2, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-0608, or to the First Lutheran Church, 500 E. Shepherd St., charlotte, MI 48813.

Roy Dean Hinckley

Roy Dean Hinckley, 51, fought the good fight and finished his race on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

Roy was born Sept. 5, 1959, in Charlotte, Mich., to Elam and Shirley Hinckley. Roy served in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1980. In 1979, while stationed in Texas, Roy married the love of his life, Brenda Fox. Two years later, they celebrated the birth of their daughter, Amanda Hinckley Gierratano. After giving his heart to the Lord in 1994, Roy dedicated the rest of his life to sharing the love of God with all he came in contact with. Roy’s passion was mission work, feeding, clothing and healing hurting people. Roy pastored a church in Gonzales, Texas, for six years before moving to Kansas City. In 2006, shortly after Roy and his wife moved to Kansas City, they welcomed the first of two grandchildren. There are not enough words to describe Roy’s love and passion he had for his grandchildren. Living by example, Roy taught all who knew him how to not only live the length of your life but the width as well.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Elam Hinckley. Survivors include wife, Brenda Fox Hinckley, daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Nate Giarratano, two grandchildren, Elem Douglas Gierratano and Eden Love Giarratano, all of Olathe. Roy is also survived by his mother, Shirley Hinckley, brothers, Dan and Bruce Hinckley, sisters, Kathy Aaron, Tina Kellogg and Sue Thornell, all of Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roy’s family.

Clarence E. Hines

Clarence Elijah Hines, 70, died April 12, 2010. Mr. Hines was born Oct. 11, 1939 in Madison, SD, the son of Edward and Alvilda (Olson) Hines.

Mr. Hines was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was retired form Oldsmobile.

He is survived by his sons, Clarence (Sheila) Hines of Colorado Springs and Christopher (Lori) Hines of Eaton Rapids and his daughter, Sherry Hines of Charlotte.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 20, at Ft. Custer Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Betty J. Hinman

Betty J. Hinman, 80, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Mrs. Hinman was born February 25, 1930 in Flint, MI the daughter of Arthur and Erma (Head) Teel.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Eldridge; daughters, Deborah (Jay) Auerbach of Atlanta, GA, Paula (Mark) Calder of Barrie, ON, Peggy (Kim) Davis of Eaton Rapids and Pamela Jessup of Dublin, OH; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Hinman.

Graveside services will be 2:30 Friday, September 3, 2010 at Center Eaton Cemetery in Charlotte, MI with Reverend Richard Mitterling officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI.

John A. Hipshire

John A. Hipshire, age 41 of Leslie, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 in Red Bluff, CA. John was born June 12, 1969 in Wyandotte, the son of John L. and Mary M. (Mayville) Hipshire. He was preceded in death by his father John Hipshire in 1981 and his mother, Mary Hipshire in 2001.

He was a loving brother to 2 brothers, William Hipshire (Pam) of Chicago, Carl Hipshire of Eaton Rapids; 3 sisters, Jordan Knickerbocker aka Kathy of California, Charlotte Hipshire of Georgia, and Kellie Ahrens (John) of Leslie. He was a loving uncle to 9 nieces and nephews and 8 great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Toby Teague officiating.

Donald C. Hoag

Donald Clyde Hoag Jr., 58, of Potterville, died Tuesday, December 22, 2010 after a short, hard fought battle with cancer. He was born November 12, 1952 in Lansing, the son of Donald Hoag, Sr. and Patricia (Frazier) Hoag.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Guadelupe Hoag, and their sons; Donald C. Hoag III, and Korey L. Hoag; special granddaughter, Maddyson Elyse Hoag; brother, Gerald Hoag and family; sister, Emilee Hoag Ackley and family.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1992 and his father in 2004. He was a caring, loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and uncle who enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and bird watching.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Carol Jean (Haviland) Holdridge

Carol Jean (Haviland) Holdridge, age 67, passed away at her home, August 13, 2010 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lansing, MI, on July 3, 1943, the daughter of Maurice and Helen (Phelps) Haviland. Carol graduated from Sexton High School in 1961. She was a member of the Arbor Foundation, AARP. Carol enjoyed flower gardening, collecting many different things and she loved candles.

She is survived by her spouse, Daniel K> Holdridge; children, Annette K. Hulsey, Ronald J. “Jim” (Mary) Lyon Jr., Jolette F. (Jeffrey Childress) Lyon; grandchildren, Jesse Jo Lyon, Taylor Jean and Morgan Ann Hulsey; great grandchild, Layla Jade Lopez; brother, Dale (Yvonne) Haviland; sister, Locelle Stone; best friend, Stella Wood; many special family and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Harold Haviland, Dorotha Patterson, Francis Brown, Doris Rauschenberger, Leona Sellers, William Haviland.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Carol’s husband Dan.
