Bryan W. Jones
Bryan William Jones of Marshall, formerly of Bellevue, died Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor. Services were held Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Robert Jones
Robert “Bobby” Jones, 51, of Potterville, died Saturday, June 19, 2010. He was born February 18,1959 in Lansing, the son of Gordon and Joyce (Crosslan) Jones. Bobby was employed at General Motors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. He loved his children and was extremely proud of them.
He is survived by his wife, Robyn; sons, Robert
(Catalina) Jones of Potterville and Justin (Amanda) Jones of Potterville; three grandchildren, Autumn, Bobby and Austin.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Ann Jones in 2000 and his brother, Wesley Jones in 2009. Memorial services will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Lansing. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Rita P. Joseph
Rita P. Joseph, 80, of Potterville, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010. She was born August 28, 1929 in Pontiac, the daughter of Ernest and Clara (Ruth) French. Rita married her late husband, Charles Joseph Jr. in 1947 becoming co-owner of Carl’s Supermarket in Potterville. She was a member of the Potterville United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendant, on the Board of Trustee’s, was Finance Committee Chairman, President, Vice President and Secretary of United Methodist Women’s, Sunday School Teacher, Organist and several other committees. Rita was the Benton Township Clerk from 1959 to 1963, involved in Band Boosters from 1962 to 1972, a charter member of the Potterville Area Chamber of Businesses, Gizzard Fest Committee as Chairman of “Sidewalk Café” and Parade, Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She also was involved in the Benton Township/Potterville Fire Department being on the Fire Board beginning in 2002, she was a licensed E.M.T. with the National Registry & Fire Fighter, CPR and Red Cross Instructor for 40 years ending in 1997. Rita was a past President and Treasurer of the Eaton County Humane Society and Potterville Downtown Development Committee.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Jim) Robertson; son, Charles Joseph; daughter, Kathy Joseph; grandchildren, James (Jean) Robertson, Jeromy (Kimberly) Robertson, Jacob (Coty) Robertson and Malanie and Samuel Joseph; great grandchildren, Alexander Robertson; Eric Robertson, Kyle Robertson, Brett Robertson, Ian Robertson, Hayden Robertson, Lillian Irene Robertson; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Joseph, Yvonne Chapman and Janice French; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joseph, Jr. in 1999.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville. Visitation will be Friday, March 12, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Potterville United Methodist Church, Potterville Benton Fireman’s Association or Advantage Hospice. William Frederick Kasten
William Frederick Kasten, age 79 of Eaton Rapids passed from this life on Monday, April 26, 2010 at a Lansing hospital following a terminal illness with pancreatic cancer. Born July 19, 1930 in Allegan, Michigan the son of Frederick J. and Marian C. (Stickel) Kasten. At the age of 11, Bill was baptized in to his faith on January 1941, he became a Pioneer in 1948 and was Presiding Overseer in the Paw Paw Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the age of 19. He attended the Gilead Missionary School and graduated in 1951 then traveled to Bethel, Germany to serve. Following his work in German, Bill served as minister in Quebec for a period of time. In 1962, Bill was requested to return to Gilead for additional training and then assigned to missionary work in Luxembourg for 10 years. During the years from 1975 through 1978 he was assigned to serve in Brooklyn, New York where he used his skills as a Master Plasterer to assist with the renovating of the World Headquarters of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. In 1998, Bill returned to Michigan and continued to reach out to others in his ministry. In 2001, Bill married Jacqueline (Davison) Williams of Eaton Rapids and together they enjoyed a wonderful life until his death. Preceding in death was his parents; and wife Mary Olive (Blanchard) Kasten.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; 3 children, Shari (Mike) Bambrick of Eaton Rapids, tom (Jamie) Williams of Potterville and Julie (Bruce) Brantley of Eaton Rapids; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 5 brothers & sisters, Carolyn Semon of Richland, Dean (Norine) Kasten of Holland, Gene (Susan) Kasten of South Haven, Maggie (Jim) Dykstra of Paw Paw and Sharon (Jan) Snider of Estero, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Dorothy Merritt Auditorium at the Eaton Rapids High School 800 State St. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to either the Jehovah’s Witnesses in care of Matt Fowler at Eaton Rapids Kingdom Hall 8972 Holmes Hwy. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827 or to the Eaton Community Hospice at 2675 S. Cochran Rd. Charlotte, MI 48813 in memory of William F. Kasten. Arrangements were made through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
John H. Keenan
John H. Keenan, Jr., 54, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010. He was born Jan. 13, 1956 in Battle Creek, the son of John Keenan and Lila (Johnson) Latham.
Mr. Keenan was employed at Meijer in Charlotte and volunteered at the SIREN/Eaton Shelter. He was passionate about softball, wrestling, football and basketball and was always involved in coaching and supporting his children to be the best they could be. He was preceded in death by his father, John Keenan, Sr. and sister, Mary Rose Keenan Davis.
He is survived by his son, Cory (Raquelita) Keenan of Kentucky; daughter, Heather Keenan of Charlotte; son, Jimmy Keenan of Charlotte; daughter, Annie Keenan of Charlotte; former wife, Tammy Keenan of Charlotte; mother, Lila (Harold) Latham; brother, Jack Keenan; nieces, Jody Armstrong and Amy Davis. Memorial services were held Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Dr. Reverend Carol Spangenberg officiating.

Terry L. Kelley
Terry L. Kelley, 55, of Charlotte, died Thursday, September 30, 2010. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.
John A. Kent
John Allen Kent, 46, of Nashville, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010 at his home in Nashville. John was born in Hastings on July 17, 1963 the son of Gerald and Anne (Smith) Kent. He was raised in the Nashville area and attended local schools, graduating from Maple Valley High School in 1981. He was the husband of Denise (Valdick) Kent. The couple was married May 11, 1985 in Charlotte and made their home in the Nashville area where they raised their beloved daughters together. John worked with his family, operating Kent Oil and Propane after graduating from high school. In 1996, John purchased the family business with his brother-in-law Jeff Hynes. The two have operated the business together and in 1999 expanded by purchasing Frost Heating and Cooling. He was a member of the Michigan Petroleum Association, Michigan Propane Gas Association, and the National Propane Association. John loved the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting in the fall, ice fishing in the winter and landscaping his yard during the summer. John’s first love however was his family, and he cherished his time with them.
John is survived by his wife and best friend of 25 years Denise, his two daughters, Rebecca and Jennifer Kent, his parents, Jerry and Anne Kent, two sisters, Kristine (Jeff) Hynes, Teresa (Tom) Gloden, sister-in-laws, Cheryl (Terry) Pierce, Brenda (Eric) Valiquette, brother-in-law, Mark (Angie) Valdick, mother-in-law, Janet Valdick and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at The Nashville Baptist Church in Nashville on Monday, July 5, with Pastor Matt Rohde officiating. Interment took place at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Maple Valley Scholarship Fund.
Raymond (Ray)Theodore Kern
Raymond (Ray) Theodore Kern, born December 9, 1933 to Rudy and Frieda Kern, passed away on October 2, 2010. Ray was 77 years old. Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Janet Kern. They were high school sweethearts who married on November 14, 1953 and remained best friends throughout their marriage. One of Ray’s greatest joys was working side-by-side with Jan and his children for more than 30 years in his office supply business.
He is also survived by his four children: Mark Kern; Sandra (Steve) Babbitt; Marcia (Joe) Steltz; and Gary (LuAnn) Kern. Ray had eight wonderful grandchildren; Cameron (Vaughn) and Natasha Babbitt, Cassandra and Shianne Lynch, Michael and Paige Steltz and Bella and Sophie Kern. Ray is survived by his mother, Frieda Schultz, his brother Otto (Dottie) Kern and many other brothers and sister-in-laws. Ray’s second best friend after Janet was his faithful yellow Labrador, Scooter. Ray was always proud to be a member of the Lansing Eastern High school 1951 State Champion Wrestling team. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the 18th Combat Engineers. Ray served as a member of the Eaton Rapids Township Planning Commission. He loved to garden, take walks in the woods, spend time with his grandchildren and share his sense of humor with those around him. Ray valued family more than anything else in this world. He will be deeply, deeply missed and remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and friend.

A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 120 p.m. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service.
Gerald R. Ketvirtis
Gerald R. Ketvirtis, 68, died Friday, July 2,2010 at Sparrow Hospice in Lansing.
Born July 27, 1941 in Newberry, son of the late Charles & Mary (Dubulski) Ketvirtis, Jerry was a 1959 graduate of Newberry High School and attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton. Jerry served in United States Army until his honorable discharge on August 22, 1961. He was employed with the Michigan Department of Transportation for over 20 years until his retirement in 2001. Jerry was a life member of the F.O.E. Aerie #3552 in Charlotte and member of the B.P.O.E. #1705 in Newberry. His hobbies included golfing and sports.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his siblings George, Charles, John, Bill, Elmer, Stan and Berniece.
Survivors include his siblings, Ron (Gloria) Ketvirtis of Sterling Heights and Mary Ann Ketvirtis of Harbor Springs; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Frank Ricca, of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, officiating. Rite of Committal will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry.
Memorials may be directed to the Newberry Elks Lodge Scholarship Fund in memory of Gerald R. Ketvirtis.

Jack D. Kiplinger
Jack D. Kiplinger passed away on July 11, 2010 at the age of 73. He was born on June 13, 1937 to R. Dale and L. Esther (Jacobs) Kiplinger in Charlotte. Jack graduated from Charlotte High school in 1955 and worked as a journeyman welder at various manufacturing companies.
Jack is survived by six children: Jon, Jodi, Jayne (Robert) Walker, Jeanine (Kevin) Nowak, James (April), and Jesse (Michelle); siblings, Sharon (Martin) Rachilla, Bruce (Elizabeth) and Nancy (Bill) Morales; and 17 grandchildren.
A family graveside service was held on Friday at Bosworth Cemetery.
