Rhoda E. Knickerbocker
Rhoda E. Knickerbocker, 59, of Vermontville, died Wednesday, December 29, 2010. She was born August 18, 1951 in Charlotte, the daughter of Otis and Helen (Myers) Waters. She was a clerk for Wal-Mart. She loved playing cards, video games and enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Jo (Paul) Goforth of Santa Monica, Calif. and ex-husband, James Knickerbocker.
She was preceded in death by her son, Victor Lee Knickerbocker in 1989. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Glenna M. Mackey
Glenna M. (Naylor) Mackey, 74, of Charlotte, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Willowwood Manor A.F.C. Home in Delta Township after a short illness. Mrs. Mackey was born June 11, 1935 in Belmont, Ohio, the daughter of Glen and Eva (VanPelt) Naylor.
She was a retired employee of General Motors in Lansing with about 25 years of service.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Marilyn Naylor.
Surviving are her son, Chris Mackey of Charlotte; her daughter, Sharon Mackey of Kansas City, Kan.; two grandsons; one great grandchild; three sisters, Lila Swift of Leslie, Alma Bidelman of Mason, and Carol Troutman of North Carolina and nieces and nephews.
Per Mrs. Mackey’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at noon Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may go to the charity of one’s choice.
Thomas Reed Maggard
Thomas Reed Maggard, 53, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Tommy was a graduate of Charlotte High School in 1974. Tommy loved the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, and camping were some of his hobbies, however baseball was his favorite sport. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and June Maggard and his niece Stephanie Edgecomb. Tommy is survived by his stepmother, Robbie Raggard, sisters, Linda Satterlee, Debbie Maggard, Kathy Webb, Eva Edgecomb and Treva Pennington, many nieces and nephews.
Eric J. Magoon
Eric J. Magoon, 70, of Charlotte, died Saturday, November 27,2010. He was born February 28, 1940 in Charlotte, the son of Charles & Bernice (Franks) Magoon. He retired as a tool crib attendant with General Motors UAW Local 652.
He is survived by his children: Becky Magoon of Hastings, Rodney (Sally) Magoon of Nashville, Brenda (“Bud” Albert) Hill, and Cynthia (Brett) Miller of Wyoming; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and siblings: Edward (Lola) Magoon, Imogene “Jeannie” Williams Pitcher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, in May 2010; a brother, Gayle, and a sister, Stella.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Judy K. Magoon
Judy K. Magoon, 69, of Charlotte, died Monday, May 10, 2010. She was born August 16, 1940 in Lansing, the daughter of Elmer and Mildred (Root) Speer. She had worked at the Charlotte Laundromat and Dry Cleaners and also at McDonalds. She enjoyed fabric crafts, ceramics, photo and sticker books and coloring with her grandchildren. She made the best fudge in the world and liked to bake and decorate cakes. She made friends quickly with her kind and loving spirit. Her family knew her as the “Love and Prayers” Grandma as she would send cards with that greeting. She enjoyed family get-togethers and trips.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Eric Magoon; daughter Becky Magoon of Hastings; son, Rodney (Sally) Magoon of Nashville; daughters Brenda (“Bud” Albert) Hill and Cynthia (Brett) Miller of Wyoming; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers, Theodore (Vie) Speer) Lynwood (Sherry) Speer and Elmer Speer Jr.
She was preceded in death by sister, Imogene Speer.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Efrain Portillo Marinez
Efrain Portillo Marinez, “Pop”, 87 of East Lansing, died Jan. 4, 2010. He was born in Mexico, and raised in Crystal City, Texas by his father and two other brothers.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Frances, in 1944 in Crystal City. In 1939 he settled in Michigan, working and managing area farms. He was an active member of the Lansing Farm Workers Committee and participated in marches alongside his friend Cesar Chavez in support of farm laborers. He managed farms in Texas with his father and brothers and worked at the Morrill Farm in Bath. As patriarch of one of the first Mexican-American families in the Lansing area, he was a founding member of Cristo Rey Parish, the Comite Patriotico (Mexican Patriotic Committee) and active in the Cursillos movement. He had a lifelong commitment to and provided leadership for social justice, receiving several awards supporting that effort including a proclamation by Governor William Milliken. He retired from Lindell Drop Forge in 1966.
He strived for diversity and inclusion, and instilled that inspiration in his children and grandchildren. He was a role model for so many, an incredible father, a man of the Earth, a man of faith and so much more.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Juanita (Portillo) Marinez, brothers, Ladislado P. Marinez and Felix Campos, sister, Frances Campos and son, Efrain.
Surviving are his wife, Rancisca; children, Juan (Diana), Rafael, Salome (Dora), Lupe (Tom) Izzo, Rodrigo, Rodolfo (Beth), Marina (Carl) Szypula, Rebecca (Tom) Pulick, Guillermo (Lauren), Roberto (Mary) and Ana (Frank) O’Donnell; 27 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Teodoro (Blanca) Marinez.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, Jan. 8 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Lansing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cristo Rey Building Fund, 201 W. Margaret Marshall
Margaret “Evelyn” Marshall, 73, of Charlotte, died Thursday, May 20, 2010. She was born October 4, 1936 in Knoxville, Tenn., the daughter of Frank and Louise (Bailey) Henderson.
She is survived by her husband, Ted; daughters, Debbie Etheridge, Sindi Marshall, Tammy (Gary) Bower, Lisa Marshall, Beth (Terry) Peeler; son, Theodore Marshall, Jr.; grandchildren, Tiffany (Ross) Mumma, T.J. Marshall, Meghan (Shannon) Wisely, Matthew Marshall, Rachel (Dustin) Smith and Daniel Peeler; great grandchildren, Brittney, Brooke, Emily, Elizabeth, Cody and Monique; sister, Edith (Eli) Ramon and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori; granddaughter, Maggie and grandson, Joshua. Memorial services were held Monday, May 24, 2010 at New Hope Community Church in Charlotte, with Pastor Randy Royston officiating. Richard C. Marshall
Richard Clare Marshall, 79, of Vermontville, died Thursday, September 9, 2010. He was an overhead crane operator for Oldsmobile. Funeral services were held Monday, September 13, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Doris E. (Lynd) Masters
Doris E. (Lynd) Masters, age 79, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 at the Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall. Doris was born Nov. 19, 1930 in Charlotte, the daughter of William and Ethel (Green) Lynd and had been a lifelong Eaton County resident.
She was mainly a homemaker but had worked at Olivet College for a short time many years ago.
Surviving are: three children, David Masters of Hudson, FL, Shirley (Thomas) Rickey of Charlotte and Larry (Kathleen) Masters of Charlotte; 5 grandchildren, Patricia Cain, Laura Master, Eric Masters, Sarah Wyatt and Taryn Rinckey; 2 great grandchildren, Kristen Hydon and Lily Wyatt; 1 sister, Pauline Dies of Whitmore Lake and 2 sisters-in-law, Delores Carleton of Olivet and Betty Masters of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Masters on April 25, 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Winford Collins officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may go to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes available at the Funeral Home.
Norman Geoffrey Masters
Norman Geoffrey Masters died December 1, 2010. Geoff was born in Charlotte, MI on July 13, 1936. He was a graduate of Olivet High School and Olivet College. He served 3 years in the Army. He taught school in Harper Creek, MI and Salem, Oregon. He retired from the Oregon Education Association after serving many years as a Teachers Rights Advocate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Esther Master, step-mother, Phyllis Masters and brother, David Masters. He is survived by his daughter Taya Rae (Lane) Johnston, Sister, Barbara Brummel, brother Preston (Glenda) Masters, best friend Anneliese Davis, grandsons Tyler and Brady, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
