Gladys Maude Merrifield

Gladys Maude Merrifield of Vandercook Lake, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at her home, under the loving care of her family and Allegiance Hospice. Mrs. Merrifield was the daughter of William Edward and Mabel May Hector, born July 2, 1017 in Onondaga Township. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eldo Merrifield in 1984; her parents; two brothers, Ronald and Albert Hector; sister, Edith Eldred.

She is survived by her brother, Robert D. (Mary Jane) Hector; numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. Mrs. Merrifield worked for several manufacturing companies before becoming a great gardener at her home. She raised and sold produce, chickens, eggs, and goat’s milk from her greenhouse and mini farm. She was a great friend

to many and will be sadly missed by all her know her.

Her funeral celebration was held at Watson Funeral Chapel on February 20, 2010. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Allegiance Hospice, One Jackson Square, 4th floor, Jackson, MI 49201.

Edna M. Milbourne

Edna Mae Milbourne, 92, of Traverse City, died Monday, December 6, 2010 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was born August 8, 1918 in Charlotte, the daughter of Roy E. and Ethel (Halsey) Hinckley. She married Allison Milbourne in 1935 and worked as a bookkeeper for their business, A.T. & E. Electric, in Charlotte. She loved her family and friends and was always willing to help others.

She is survived by her children, Charlene (Mike) LaCombe of Port Orchard, Wash., Gary (Gayanne) Milbournce of White Lake, Mich. and Carolyn (Greg) Butzow of Traverse City; grandchildren; Mark (Debbie) LaCombe, Matthew (Nancy) LaCombe, Kathy Hite, Kevin (Adele) LaCombe, Jason Butzow, Jeffrey (Candace) Butzow, Jodi (Frank) Bathel, Beverly (Marc) Meyer, Paul Milbourne, and also several great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allison, in 1981; her daughter, Connie Milbourne White in 1979, her grandson, Scott LaCombe and her brothers, Vern, Wayne and Elam.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Booth officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 prior to the service.

If desired, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Community Living Management Corporation, 935 Barlow St., Traverse City, MI 48686. Please make checks to CLMC Activity Fund.

Cassi M. Miller

Cassi M. Miller (Kelley), 30, passed away March 11, 2010 of cardiac arrest.

Cassi is survived by her husband, Robert of Olivet; son, Ira; brothers, Larry Olin Jr. of Grand Blanc, Zeb Olin of Charlotte, and TJ Kelley; sisters, Kandee Erwin of Webberville; Andrea Carr of Gasaway, W Vs., and Elizabeth Murphy of Holt; and parents, June and Larry Olin and Terry Kelley.

Memorial services were held at the SDA Church in Charlotte.

Donald L. Miller

Donald Lewis Miller, 76, died on Saturday, Dec. 5 at his home in Smyrna, Tenn., after an eight-year battle with cancer. Donald was a lifelong resident of Charlotte and Lansing. Donald was a longstanding student of Way International bible Research and Teaching Ministry. Don retired in 1994 from the Owen-Brockway plant in Charlotte, where he was employed for 30 years. He served in the Michigan Army National Guard, 119th Field Artillery, for over 10 years. Donald, a beloved son of God, was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Miller; mother, Dorothy Miller Bowen; two brothers, Robert Miller and Richard Miller and beloved nephews, Jeffrey Gardner and Timothy Logan.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eileen, and six daughters, Margaret Sanchez, Cynthia Thomason and Roberta Miller of Lansing, Katherine (Terry) Sizeland of Olivet and Dawn (Doyle) Dunning of Nashville, Tenn., and Lori (David Sjoquist of Smyrna, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Mrs. Richard (SonaLu) Miller of Phoenix, Ariz., Mr. and Mrs. James (Patricia) Helmker of Lakeview, Mich., and Mr. William Logan of Six Lakes, Mich.

Mr. Miller, will be honored at a memorial service on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment of cremains with military honors at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Elizabeth H. Miller

Elizabeth H. (Mast) Miller, 64, of Vermontville, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 at her residence. She was born Jan. 21, 1946 in Nappannee, Ind., the daughter of Henry and Mary (Hochstetler) Mast.

Survivors include: her husband of 42 years, John Junior Miller; children, Ivan Ray (Anna May) Miller of Jamesport, Mo., John Henry (Sara) Miller of Jamesport, Mo., Mary Louise (Romayne) Graber of Charlotte, Mich., Martha Sue (William; Jay) Yutzy of Charlotte, MI., Elizabeth Ann (Jonathan) Hochstetler of Vermontville and Nelson Leroy (Lois Ann) Miller of Vermontville and 26 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Mast and one granddaughter, Sara Beth Yutzy.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the John Junior Miller Residence in Vermontville with Bishops James Lee Hochstetler, Ray Hochstetler and David Bontrager officiating. Interment was in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Charlotte. Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Florence Miller

Florence Miller, 95, died May 7, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.

She was born August 1, 1914, the daughter of Bolton and Clara (Lewis) Miller in Brookfield Township, Eaton County, Michigan.

Florence graduated from the Central Bible Institute, Springfield, Missouri in 1945. She returned to the Battle Creek area in 1954 to take care of her Grandmother, Sarah Miller and her father, Bolton Miller.

Florence worked as a caregiver at several nursing homes and as an LPN at Leila Hospital until retiring in 1976. She taught Sunday school and assisted at the Bellevue Assembly of God Church. Florence continued to be an active part of Bellevue Christian Center. She enjoyed most reading her Bible and visiting with friends and family. She always had a garden and enjoyed growing African violets and feeding the birds in her backyard.

Florence is survived by her nieces and nephews, Clinton (Arlene) Bolton of East Leroy, Jeannette (Gerald) Barve of Battle Creek, Carol (Robert) Colburn of Battle Creek, Deborah (Terrance) Arnold of FonDuLac, Wisconsin, James (Sharleen) Miller of Battle Creek, Martin (Charleen) Miller of Battle Creek and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Services were held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Bellevue Christian Center with Pastor Danesh Manik officiating. Interment: Hicks Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to Bellevue Christian Center or Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Grace J. Miller

Grace J. Miller, born Grace Anna Jones near DeWitt, 107, of Hastings, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010. She was born Jan. 29, 1902 in Eagle Township, Mich., the daughter of Clinton and Eva (Shirts) Jones.

Grace was a graduate of Charlotte High School and attended Kalamazoo College. She taught elementary grades for 41 years, including seven years in Germany for the Department of the Army. She worked in a defense plant during WWII riveting B-29 bomber wings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude E. Miller of Sunfield in 1955 and daughter, Patricia Gearhart of Lansing in 1999.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann McDonald of Elk Rapids; sons, John Miller of Floral, Ark., and Wellington Miller of Hastings; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Services may be held at a later date as her body had been donated to Michigan State University. In memory of Grace, the family would ask friends to consider an anatomical donation.

Ila “Hazel” (Smith) Miller

Ila “Hazel” (Smith) Miller, 82, passed away on September 16, 2010 at Hayes Green Beach in the presence of her family.

She was born March 11, 1928 the daughter of Jesse and Maude (Holmes) Smith. Mrs. Miller was the manager of the Eaton Theater in Charlotte, she was known as “the lady with the flashlight”. She was a seamstress, enjoyed painting dolls and crocheting clothes for them. Mrs. Miller dressed the dolls for Christmas Kiddies. She loved spending time with her family and babysitting her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Chester Miller; sons, Irving (Sharon) Smith of Vermontville, Dan Joe (Jeanette) Miller, Douglas (Betty) Miller, Dewayne Miller and Dwight (Mary) Miller all of Charlotte; daughters, Wanita (Art) Clark of Charlotte, Doris (Douglas) Ewing of Seymour, IN, Darlene (Chuck) Cowling of Midland; 26 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and brother, Harry P. Smith of Coldwater. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Maude Smith; 2 brothers; 3 sisters; grandson, James Griffith and daughter-in-law, Kim Miller. She will be missed by Smokey and Mittens, her cats.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI with Reverend Phil Hobson officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville, MI. Visitation will be Monday, September 20, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. Id desired, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or the Gideons. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI.

Muriel Mills

Loved ones met Muriel “Jeanne” Mills, 90, of Potterville, at Heaven’s gate, Wednesday, December 15, 2010, with her family by her side, as she softly drew her last breath. Jeanne was born August 10, 1920, the eldest daughter of Leon and Marguerite (Verplank) Patterson, and grew up in rural Eaton County. She married Granvil “Jiggs” Mills July 3, 1948, and was a stay at home mother of three. When her children were older, she held various jobs to contribute to the household; including Rudesill’s Men’s Wear in downtown Charlotte, and retired from Jarvis Acres. She was an avid and lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. She enjoyed trips to Michigan’s casinos, playing bingo and euchre with her sister and numerous friends throughout the years. When she became unable to do so, she was content with reading, crossword and Jumble puzzles, “Game Nights” with her daughter and son-in-law, an occasional evening out to have dinner and play Keno, and rearranging cupboards in her home. Selfless and supportive, she sat alongside her daughter and granddaughter and shaved her head to help raise money and awareness at two “Be Aware, Shave Your Hair” Alopecia Areata fundraiser events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard “Dick” Milles, daughter and granddaughter, Melanie and Meghann Pouch, and sister, Bethel Stevenson.

She is survived by and will be sadly missed, by her daughter, Michele (Ed) Godlewski; granddaughters, Angel Hobbs, Shilo (jack) Taylor, Mallory (Mike) Crowner, Brooke (Chad) Jacobs; grandson, Sean Pouch; seven great grandchildren, and one on the way; two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also left behind to adapt are her adored kitty, Jackson, and obnoxious pal, Chi-Chi the parrot. Funeral services were held Monday, December 20, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Steve Ezop officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.
