Shirley M. Mills
Shirley M. Mills, 64, of Charlotte, passed peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Ms. Mills was born March 16, 1946 in Elmer Township, Mich., the daughter of Hilford and Beulah (Beek) Lantz.
Ms. Mills was a bartender at Players for several years and a clerk at Deekons Doughnuts. She is survived by her four children: daughters, Lynn Davis of Olivet and Michelle King of Haslett; sons, Bobby Jenks of GA and Dave Jenks of Clearwater, Fla.; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Kersey, Fla., and Mary Lou Strimbeck, Battle Creek; former spouse, Lawrence Campbell and two step-children, Robby and Tammy Campbell as well as several caregivers and many, many friends.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2010 at the Eagles, Charlotte, with Reverend Charles Jensen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Gerald D. Mogg
Gerald D. “Jerry” Mogg, 71, of Charlotte, died Monday February 15, 2010 at the Eaton Community Hospice House after an extended illness. Jerry was born June 23, 1938 in Lansing, the son of Cecil and Retha (Brown) Mogg and was a lifelong resident of Charlotte. He was a 1956 graduate of Charlotte High School and all of his adult life had been involved in the grocery business, having started in high school as a “carry out boy” to eventually owning his own business, J & J Junction Party Store. He was a charter member and past President of the Charlotte Optimist Club, had served many years on the Charlotte Frontier Days Board, was a former Carmel Township Treasurer and was an avid MSU fan. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, all sports and the out-of-doors.
Surviving are: his wife of 50 years, Joy (Smith) Mogg; his children, JoDean (Mike) Snyder of Duck Lake, Jeff Mogg of Charlotte and Jayne (Rob) Latchaw of Duck Lake; two grandchildren, Jordan Smith and Grant Snyder; brother, Gene (Mil) Mogg of Caledonia; brother-in-law, Jerry Smith of Kalamazoo; sister-in-law, Rosalie (Larry) Bazzett of Charlotte and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with John Bailey of the Charlotte Church of Christ officiating. Interment was in the Gresham Cemetery in Chester Township. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 S. Gladys Mohler
Gladys Mohler of Eaton Rapids, age 84, passed away in Lansing, Wednesday January 27, 2010. She was born in Eaton Rapids November 15, 1925, the daughter of Claude and Ida (Kikendall) Thuma. Gladys was a lifelong resident of Eaton Rapids. She graduated from high school there in 1944. Gladys worked for Horner Woolen Mills in Eaton Rapids. She was the owner of McClure Implement Sales in Springport and retired from Eaton Technologies in 1991 after 18 years of service. Gladys was an Eastern Star at the Brookfield Lodge. She belonged to the VFW Auxiliary Post 6056 in Springport. Gladys was a very active member of the Eaton Rapids Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed wintering in Brownsville, TX for the past 20 years, gardening, camping in Ludington, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Mohler of Eaton Rapids; children, Claudia (Larry) Mead of Springport, Thomas McClure of Eaton Rapids, Pamela (Rick) Babbitt of Eaton Rapids, Douglas Jr. (Sue) Mohler of Albion, Cheryl Freeman of Frisco, TX, Joseph Mohler o Springport, Thomas Mohler of Clark Lake, MI, David (Sharon) Mohler of Great Galls, MT; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean Thuma. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Tracy Lynn Mohler and brother Lavern “Barney” Thuma.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 1, 2010 at the Shell-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Rapids Assembly of God Church or the Eaton Rapids Medical Center.
Kenneth J. Mohre, Sr.
Kenneth John Mohre Sr., 78, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010. He was born February 25, 1932 in Lansing, the son of Donald and Thelma (Pifer) Mohre. Ken retired from Lindell Drop Forge as a Millwright after 35 years of service and was a former volunteer firefighter for Delhi Township. Ken and his wife Illa operated Illa’s Tendercare Adult Foster Care Home in Charlotte from 1990 to 1999. He could build anything out of everything, from lawnmowers to airplanes. He enjoyed dancing, doing yard work and having candy with a cigar. Ken loved his family and spending time with them at their family cottage where they would ride the saucer disk, taking his last ride at the age of 69. He was a wonderful provider who, with his wife, Illa worked as a great team to raise their five children. Ken made a lot of new friends in his later years at the Eaton Area Senior Center.
He is survived by his daughter, Trudy (Roy) Thomas of Holt; Ken (Deb) Mohre of Rochester; daughter, Candy (Tom) Taylor of Dimondale; daughter, Penny (Scott) Cooper of Charlotte; son, Donald (Diane) Mohre of Charlotte; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Mohre of DeWitt, Leonard (Judy) Mohre of Eaton Rapids; Douglas Mohre of Charlotte and sister, Maxine (Fred) Rach of Dansville.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Illa in 1999; brother, Carroll Mohre; sisters, Elaine Hershieser, Norma Mohre, and Pam Harmon.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 10, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Phil Hobson officiating. Interment was in Deepdale Cemetery in Lansing.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House.
Litty A. Moore
Litty Anne (Fernsler) Moore, of Lansing, died on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at age 87. She was born June 11, 1922, the seventh of nine children to Effie M. (Grooms) and Harry G. Fernsler of rural Charlotte.
Litty’s schooling began in the one room Gresham School for her first eight years. She then attended high school in Charlotte, graduating in June 1939.
She moved to Lansing to a job at Beurmann-Marshall Printing, where she met her husband of 67 years, Alvah J. Moore.
Litty stayed home until her children were all in school and then she went back to work at Michigan State University. She retired in 1999 from Michigan State University, where she was the clinical secretary in the Microbiology Department for the U.S. Government Tuberculosis Research Project for 15 years.
He last years, she worked in the Family Ecology Department. Litty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George, Lowell, Harry and Carroll; sisters, Fleta, Helen and Mildred.
Surviving are her children: Harry J. (Susie) of Charlotte, Dennis A. (Linda) of Thompsonville, Mich., and Dianne S. (David O’Berry) of Owosso; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jodi (Eric) Updyke and son, Cullen of Charlotte, NC, Wendi (Jon) Pitchford and children, Alex, Tye, Facie and Jaylee of Portland, Mathan Moore and friend, Angelika of Lansing, Kirsten J. Moore of New York City, Matt (Ayumi) Cook and son, Alen of Yokohama, Japan, Amy Peters of Charlotte and children, Dylan, Kira and Krista (Ed) King and daughter Eden of Chicago, Ill.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, East Lansing. Pastor Richard Moe officiated. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Litty was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church, East Lansing. She requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions are made to Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
Hazel L. Moore-Hamilton
Hazel L. Moore-Hamilton, of LaGrange, Ind., formerly of Charlotte, died Sunday, October 24, 2010. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Russell Morris, Jr.
Russell “Rusty” Morris, Jr., 58, of Charlotte, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010. He was born April 28, 1952 in Lansing, the son of Russell and Emma (Derew) Morris Sr. Rusty was a veteran of USCM serving in Vietnam, as well as being a Master Craftsman in the construction business. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, harness racing Standard Bred horses, The Rodeo and 4-H.
Rusty is survived by his children: Kristi (Roy) Kunkel of Eaton Rapids, Benjamin (Jeannine) Morris of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kyleigh and Jacob Kunkel, Jayna and Jace Morris; sisters, Frances Vandlen and Peggy McCartney.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private graveside services will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Mich. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or to the family.
Donald C. Mulholland
Donald C. Mulholland, 64, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010. Mr. Mulholland was born Aug. 26, 1945 in Charlotte, the son of Charles and Dorotha (Riley) Mulholland. Mr. Mulholland was employed at Jansen Equipment in Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ann.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda; sons, Gregory Mulholland of Engadine, Paul Mulholland of Newaygo and Jason Mulholland of Mancelona; step-daughter, Christina Eltzroth of Mason; seven grandchildren and step-brother, Douglas Mulholland of Rockford, Md.
Memorial services may be held at a later date.

Jeff Music
Jeff Music, 84, of Marshall, passed away in Marshall, April 1, 2010. He was born in Prestonsburg, KY on Oct. 23, 1925, the son of Jessie and Ocie Lee (Whitaker) Music. Jeff enjoyed walking his dog, mowing lawns and being around family and friends.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Henrietta Music of Marshall; daughter, Ruth Ann (Jim) Wright of Battle Creek, Betty Pauline Music of Missouri, Carol Jean Goble of Indian River, Marcella Ocie Music of Marshall, sons, Mike (Kim) Music of Bellevue, John Willard Music of Holt; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, June Lawson of Clifford.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Margie Louise Adair; son, Jeff Music Jr.; granddaughter, Sandra Jean Sumtner; five brothers and one sister.
Graveside services were held at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family in care of his daughter, Marcella.
