Barbara Jean (Maier) Nulf

Barbara Jean (Maier) Nulf formerly of Olivet, age 82, passed away August 21, 2010 in White Lake. She was born November 2, 1927 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Monroe and Neva (Coats) Maier.

Barbara was a very talented seamstress. She created many brides and bridesmaids dresses over the years. Barbara was a Cub Scout leader, a member of the Olivet Congregational Church and was also a Sunday school teacher. She volunteered her time at elections and she enjoyed flower and plant gardening. Barbara was the first woman to sit on the Olivet school board.

She is survived by her daughters, Donne Dutton of White Lake, MI, Jean (Larry) Cortright of Duck Lake; son, Grover Nulf, III of Olivet; 4 grandsons, Grover IV and John Nulf, Nathan and Adam Cortright; 1 great grandson, Austin Cole; 1 great granddaughter, Arissa Coats; sister, Joanne Green of TN; several nieces, nephews and cousins and very special friend, Rosalind Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover T. Nulf, Jr.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday August 25, 2010 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids with Pastor Steve VanSlyke officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at Clarence Center Cemetery in Calhoun Co. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 5303 S. Cedar St. Building 1 Lansing, MI 48911.

Aubrey J. Oberlin

Aubrey J. Oberlin, infant baby girl, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Aubrey was born October 6, 2010 in Lansing, the daughter of Dave and Angela (Fourman) Oberlin.

She is survived by her parents; brother, Boden Oberlin of Charlotte; grandparents, Brad and Sue Johnson and Daniel and Janis Fourman; great grandparents, Dave and Pat Oberlin; aunts and uncles, Todd (Jamie) Putney, John Songer (Todd Kuhn), Amy (Matt) Clementz, Bradley Lindsey and Beau Johnson; many loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her great grandmothers, Ethlyn Putney, Nancy Johnson Vanconant and Johanna Fourman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Reverend Mark Booth officiating. Interment will be in Windsor Township Cemetery in Dimondale. Visitation will be Friday, November 19, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DEBRA.org.

Steven Joe Oberlin

Steven Joe Oberlin of Eaton Rapids, age 47, passed away in Lansing, August 28, 2010. He was born in Eaton Rapids January 6, 1963, the son of Clyde and Donna (Schultz) Oberlin. Steven was a 1980 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School. His hobbies included hunting, working in his yard and taking care of his dog, Brownie. Steven enjoyed being with people and making them laugh and he loved children.

Steven is survived by his daughter, Anna Oberlin of McClure, OH; grandson, Jeremy Lee Snyder of McClure, OH; mother, Donna; brothers, Stan Oberlin of Eaton Rapids, Mark Oberlin of Eaton Rapids, James Snyder of Toledo, OH; sisters, Sue (Larry) Orbell of Narrow Lake, MI, Debra (Tim) Snow of Olivet; several nieces and nephews and his lifelong friend, James Towers of Eaton Rapids. He was preceded in death by his wife Penny; father, Clyde and 4 Oberlin babies.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday August 31, 2010 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Daniel Hofmann officiating. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3100 W. Rd. East Lansing, MI 48823.

David B. Odiorne

David B. Odiorne, age 77, of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the St. Lawrence Dimondale Nursing Center. Born July 19, 1932 in Eaton Rapids the son of Earl and Bess (Woodman) Odiorne. David served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-54. He retired after 30 years from General Motors in Lansing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the weekends at Ludington with his family. Preceded in death by parents; and a brother, Milo in 1986.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jacqueline; 2 daughters, Cheryl (Scott) Switzer of Narrow Lake and Susan (David) Warfield of Eaton Rapids; 5 grandchildren, Richard Switzer, Nicole (Russell) Lawrence, Nathaniel Switzer, Jamie (Dejan Dubroja) Warfield, and Justin (Jess Coles) Warfield; 4 great grandchildren, Lyle Lee Lawrence, Mila Dubroja, Kameron Warfield and Cody Warfield; sister-in-law, Betty Odiorne of Memphis, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 26, 2010 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial with military honors followed in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Disease Association in memory of David Odiorne. Kristina Lind Orlowski-Parker

Kristina Lind Orlowski-Parker of Eaton Rapids, MI passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the age of 48. Kristina was born on July 15, 1961 to Charles Wrigglesworth and Eileen Reynolds in Marshall, MI. She was a graduate of the Eaton Rapids class of 1980. She was employed at Dimondale Nursing Care Center. Kristina was a soft hearted, caring soul, who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time at Spartan Speedway. Kristina’s piercing blue eyes will never be forgotten. Kristina is preceded in death by her father Charles, and brother, Daniel Wrigglesworth.

Surviving Kristina is her mother, Eileen (Keith) Reynolds, step-mother Rhea Wrigglesworth, daughters; Darlene and Melinda Orlowski, granddaughter; Angelina Rosas, sisters, Debra (Frank) Willis, Pam (Elpidio) Cruz, Heidi (James) Nors, Dolene (John) Hernandez, Becky (Eddie) Richards, brothers; Donald Lippert, Tony (Sharron) Reynolds, Dwight (Gail) Reynolds, Gerry (Malanie) Dankenbring, Walter (Valerie) Render, the love of her life; Michael Brown, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Wesleyan Church 6044 S. Clinton Trail, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. For online condolences, please visit www.skinnerfuneralhome.com.

Frank Edward Ottney

Frank Edward Ottney of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, age 82, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte. Born September 1, 1927 in Jackson, Michigan the oldest son born to Edward and Mildred (Locke) Ottney. Although Frank was born in Jackson, he spent his childhood growing up in Canada. Returning to Eaton Rapids as a young adult, he served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII. While in the service of the government, Frank worked as a Weatherman, he also was a ski instructor in the Alps teaching recruits, and played for the U.S. hockey team in Europe. Frank retired after 30+ years as a Truck Driver retiring from central Trucking in Lansing. He loved NASCAR, hockey and golfing; woodworking in his shop and playing organ. Preceding him in death was a brother, Irv Ottney; and sister, Georgette McPhail.

He is survived by his companion of 13 years, Gladys Cataline of Eaton Rapids; former wife of 42 years and mother of his children, Carol (Tooker) Ottney of Eaton Rapids; 3 children, Brenda (Tracy) McGuirt of Eaton Rapids, Bruce Ottney of Eaton Rapids and Kimberly (Tommy) Dillon of Belleville, OH; 3 grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan and Samantha; 2 great grandchildren, Troy and Hunter; brother, William Ottney of Ontario; 2 sisters, Jeannine Crosbie of Ontario and Louise Hoyt of New York; numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank’s wishes were to be immediately cremated following his death and no services will be conducted. For those desiring, the family suggests memorial gifts be directed to Eaton Community Hospice at 2675 S. Cochran Rd. Charlotte, MI 48813. The family is being served through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.

James Bernard Pell

James Bernard Pell of Lansing, formerly of Eaton Rapids, age 95, passed away at Hazel Finley Nursing Home in St. John’s, MI, July 31, 2010. He was born June 20, 1915 in Carbon, IN the son of the late Jacob and Lottie (Morlan) Pell. Bernard retired from Clark Equipment in Jackson where he was an industrial Engineer. He raised his 4 children in Eaton Rapids and followed all of their activities. Bernard worked for Miller Diary Farm until 1948 and during his retirement, he worked as a handyman in Lansing.

He is survived by his sons, Jimmie D. (Barbara) Pell of Eaton Rapids, Jacob B. Pell of DeWitt, Jerry A. (Inga) Pell of Eaton Rapids; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janet Kessen; grandson, Jeffery Pell; brothers and sisters, Charlie, Chet, Dick, Glen, Ethel, Mabel, Rachel and Alma.

A graveside service was held at Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids on Monday, August 2, 2010 with Rev. Dr. Rodney Kalajainen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 1800 E. Grand Ave. Lansing, MI 48912.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.

Betty I. Pentecost

Betty I. Pentecost, 91, of Charlotte, died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Eaton Community Hospice House. Betty was born Sept. 24, 1919 in Eaton County the daughter of Charles and Marie (Barnes) Gusey and been a lifelong Eaton County resident. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, was an avid Detroit Tigers fan (especially Brandon Inge), enjoyed fishing and most of all was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are: her children, Gary (Dori) Pentecost of Toledo, Ohio, Linda Tokar of Charlotte, Sharon (Mike) Smith of Lapeer, Terry (Holly) Pentecost of Charlotte, Cindy (Joe) Leimback of Charlotte and special daughter, Jeanne Ayers of Lake Odessa; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Pentecost in 1988; son, James Pentecost in 2009; brother, Harold Gusey and sisters, Vivian Southern, Virginia Summers and Marian Elliston.

Graveside services and interment were held Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Arrangements were made by the Burkehead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may go to Eaton Community Hospice or the Heartland Hospice.

Charlene K. Perkins

Charlene K. Perkins, 62, of Charlotte, died Sunday, December 12, 2010 as a result of an auto accident. Charlene was born December 4, 1948 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of John and Betty (Wood) Bodell. Charlene was a cashier for Meijer’s Gas Station, retiring after 10 years. She enjoyed attending Nashville Baptist Church. Charlene enjoyed family BBQ’s and hosting family reunions and birthdays. She liked the cottage in Grayling, especially sitting around the fire pit in the woods. Charlene like playing pool and was part of a pool league until five years ago. She was very proud of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Candelyne (Paul) Thayer of Olivet, Cynthia (Robert) Washburn of Eaton Rapid and Angela (Mark) Bailey of Springport; mother, Betty Jane (Robert) Dilday of DeWitt; step-daughters, Christine Perkins of Charlotte, Kim (Randle) Gelispie of Charlotte, Lisa (John) Watson of Bellevue and Brenda (Fred) Brock of Lansing; step-son, Michael Perkins of Kansas City, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and sister, Carla Dilday of Laingsburg.

Charlene is preceded in death by her husband Albert in 2006, her father John Bodell, and her brother, Tommy.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Jenson officiating. If desired, memorial contribution may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
