Philip Ross Taylor

Philip Ross Taylor, 74, of Germfask, formerly of Mt. Morris, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. He was born June 14, 1936 in Stockbridge, MI, to Harold and Cleone (Johnson) Taylor. He married Connie DeFelice in Lansing on January 6, 1956. Phil spent his life in education, as a teacher, administrator and a coach. He received his B.A. & M.A. Michigan State University and taught in Bath, Kingston, Crowell-Lexington, Eaton Rapids and retired as a principal of Mt. Morris High School in 1988. Phil retired to Curtis, MI with his wife, Connie where they fulfilled his dream of fishing anytime.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; four sons, Harold (Patricia) Taylor of Jerome, Philip (Connie) Taylor of Lapeer, William (LoriAnn) Taylor of Lapeer and Dan (Judy) Taylor of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Joshua (Christy) Taylor, James (Dawnylle) Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Seth, Olivia & Nathan Taylor, Zachary (Ashley) Taylor, Alexander & William Taylor, Megan (Dan) Stahl, Brooke Taylor; nine great grandchildren, Mariah, Finnegan, Marcella, Brayden, Jalen, Aliya, Jacob, Peyton & Luke; sister, Sarah Ward & Aunt Helen Ward both of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Cleone Taylor.

At the family’s request, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association. Funeral services were held October 21, 2010, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Rev. Arnold Bracy officiated. Burial took place in Hunters Creek Cemetery, Lapeer. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Ion W. Tharp

Ion W. Tharp, 81, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Mr. Tharp was born Oct. 16, 1928 in Charlotte, the son of Roy and Ruth (Blanchard) Tharp.

Mr. Tharp proudly served his country as a veteran in the Navy for 20 years and then becoming a supervisor for the Water Department of Battle Creek Township after his retirement from the service.

He was a member of FRA, Korean War Veterans Association, Masonic Lodge, The U.S. Battleship Association and seven other different ship associations. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and TREA. Mr. Tharp earned the China, Korean, United Nations and Good Conduct service medals.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Maurice Tharp, Clare Tharp, Dick Tharp and daughter, Mary Ruth Tharp.

He is survived by his wife, Kate Laird Tharp; sons, David (Debbie) Tharp of Battle Creek and Richard (Sue) Tharp of Battle Creek; step daughters, Ann (Mike) Johnston of Battle Creek and Cynthia (J.R.) VanNortwick of Okinawa, Japan; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren; brother, Carroll (Diane) Tharp of Charlotte; sister, Rachel (Devon) Wiley of Charlotte.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Mich.

Eva Rose Thelen

Our little angel, Eva Rose Thelen, born on February 5th 2010, passed on to the Lord, on August 27th, to join her grandfathers, Daniel H. Thelen and Charles R. Bayes.

She is survived by her mom and dad, Amber and Tim Thelen and a sister, Janelle. She is also survived by her grandmothers, Sharon Bayes and Barbara Thelen, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m., Tuesday and 3 p.m., Wednesday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday. Online condolences may be made at www.schraubenlehman.com. Laura W. Thoman

Laura W. Thoman, 89, of Grand Ledge, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010. She was born May 5, 1921 in Atlanta, Ga., the daughter of Luther D. and Bessie (Callaway) Elliott. Laura married Joseph E. Thoman on February 20, 1945 in Paris, France where they both served in the armed forces in WWII. He preceded her in death March 13, 1998. She was employed by Springfield, Ill. School Board as office secretary at Jefferson Jr. High from 1957 to 1967. She worked for Kane County Circuit Court in Geneva, Ill., serving as Deputy Court Clerk from 1971 until she retired to Florida in 1976. Laura was a Women’s Army Corp (US Army) Veteran; a member and past commander of the former Mary Todd American Legion Post 999 in Springfield and a member and past treasurer of WAC Veterans Chapter 78, in Crystal River, Fla. While she was in Florida, she was a member of Crystal River United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie M. (Tom) Taylor of Charlotte; son, William E. (Kathy) Thoman of Plainfield, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thoman and sister, Jane Ebner.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Reverend Dr. Julie Kilmer, Chaplain and Grief Counselor with Hospice Advantage, officiating. Interment will be in Old Weogufka First Baptist Church Cemetery in Weogufka, Ala. on June 18, 2011.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

Earl A. Thompson

Earl Archie Thompson, 80, of Charlotte, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Ovid Healthcare Center. Earl was born July 24, 1929 in Kalamo Township of Eaton County, the son of Archibald and Harriet (Pullman) Thompson.

He was a retired machinist and truck driver. He had a passion for tools, trucks, concrete yard ornaments and loved to tinker. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Magoon and son, Earl E. Thompson on April 22, 2010. Surviving are two daughters, Connie (John) Morales of Olivet and Jean (Stephen) McKenna of Laingsburg; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara June Shaver of Napoleon, Ohio and Sharon (John) Mellburn of Mass City, Mich.; one brother, Harold Thompson of Charlotte and many nephews and nieces.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Kalamo Hillside Cemetery in Kalamo Township, Eaton County. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte before leaving for the cemetery for the graveside services.

Memorial contributions may go to the charity of one’s choice.

Harold I. Thompson

Harold I. Thompson, 84, of Charlotte, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at VA Medical Center in Battle Creek. Services were held Friday, July 16, 2010 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Rose M. Thompson

Rose Marie Thompson, 73, of Vermontville, passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2010. Mrs. Thompson was born April 22, 1936 in Vermontville, the daughter of Marion and Mabel (Eldridge) Hummel.

Rose married Donald Thompson in 1954 and they settled in Vermontville where they raised their five children. She like cooking and canning, especially her chicken and bean soup. She loved to read and do word search puzzles, but she most enjoyed family get-togethers that included BBQ with the grandchildren. Rose was employed at Michigan Magnetics and became a group leader, retiring after 30 plus years.

She is survived by husband, Donald; children, Alicia (Gareth) Tyler of Olivet, Rose “Rea” Kirby of Nashville, Trese (Rick) Paisley, Sue (Kenneth) Cowell and Donald “Bud” (Ursula) Thompson Jr., all of Vermontville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Reverend Charles Jensen officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville. Nancy K. Thornton

Nancy Kay (Hill) Thornton, 47, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 of terminal cancer at the Battle Creek Health Systems. Nancy was born July 1, 1962 in Charlotte and was a life resident of the Charlotte area.

Nancy was an avid reader, loved animals of all kinds and was a hard worker at anything she undertook. She loved fishing, made friends easily and was very devoted to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Thornton; daughters, Afton Fullerton and Ashley Fullerton; grandson, Kamden Schofield; step-son, James Thornton; her parents, Marvin and Agnes Hill; sister, Karla (Doug) Potter; grandmother, Pauline Puttbrese; and numerous, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green funeral Home, Charlotte with James Baum officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services.

A luncheon will be held following services at the Gresham United Methodist Church at the corner of Mulliken Road and Gresham Hwy., Charlotte.

Memorial may go to the American Cancer Society or Eaton Community Hospice. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Donald E. Tickner

Donald E. Tickner, 27, of Lansing, died Thursday, June 17, 2010. He was born August 11, 1982 in Lansing, the son of Terry and Cheryl (Brown) Tickner. Donald was an entertainer who loved to sing and dance.

He is survived by his mother, Cheryl Jeane Tickner of Charlotte; sister, Marcie (John) Therrien of Charlotte; nieces and nephews, Steven, Alyssa, Jesse, Brianna and many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Terry Tickner; grandfathers, Jack Brown and Donald Tickner; aunts, Carol Piggott and Nancy Theadoura.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 21, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Rocky Wing officiating. Interment was in Deepdale Cemetery in Lansing.
