66, of Kalamazoo, died Saturday, March 30, 2002. Mr. Householder was born December 11, 1935 in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Mayford and Verna (Roach) Householder. Funeral services will be 9:30 AM Friday, April 5, 2002, at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Grant Butler officiating. Visitation will be 9:00am until time of service on Friday.
Alice Huntoon
72, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Sunday, March 31, 2002. Mrs. Huntoon was born January 3, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Fred and Emaline (Magoon) Janes. She worked at the Eaton County Medical Facility for 17 years. She is survived by her husband Claude "Bill" Huntoon; daughter Linda Stubblefield of Charlotte, and sons Ted of Charlotte and William (Heather) of Kalamazoo, grandchildren Angela (Marc) Gonzales, Missy Stubblefield, Jacque and Zachary Houseman, great grandchildren Morgan and Marissa Gonzales and Thomas Copeland. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Bill McKay officiating. Interment will be in Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. Visitation will 7-9 p.m. Monday and 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
William Leo "Bill" Schmitz
88 of Lansing, Michigan, died Sunday, March 31, 2002. Mr. Schmitz was born February 25, 1914 in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of Henry and Ora (Holland) Schmitz. He was employed by Morris Auto Parts in Lansing and formerly worked for the Lansing Police Department and C & J Transport. He is survived by son, Lee W. "Spike" (Arlinda) Schmitz of Grand Ledge, Step-son Eugene (Mona Raye) Towsley of Charlevoix, Step-daughters Ellen (Barry) Ewing of Grand Ledge, Linda (Rex) Bebee of Oak Harbor, Washington, 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, brother Marvin of Farmer City, Illinois, sisters Wanda (Kenneth) Cook of Normal, Illinois and Ione Utter of Clinton, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife Harriett (Copin) Schmitz on March 16, 2002. Family and friends are invited to a Family Affirmation Service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with R. Raymond Rossell serving as facilitator. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. on Thursday before the service. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the Hospice of Lansing.
Howard Paul Battin
51, of Charlotte, Michigan died Friday, April 5, 2002. Mr. Battin was born September 9, 1950 in Mason, Michigan, the son of Earl D.C. and Louise Battin. He was a die maker for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycles for many years and also enjoyed golf and classic cars. He is survived by his wife Dixie, son Marcus (Leslee) of Lansing, daughters Heather (Rick) Steinhauser of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tricia Battin of Lansing, grandsons Bobby, Skyler, Trent, Harley, and Dylan, granddaughters Adeana, Katelyn and Emily, mother Louise (Bill) Every of Dansville, brothers Earl (Karen) of Leslie, Gene of Lansing, and sister Dottie Battin of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl, brother Moe and sister Janet. Family and friends are invited to a Family Affirmation Service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 10 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rich Mitterling serving as facilitator. Visitation will be 7-9 Monday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home.
Melvin Lyle Royston
45, of Durant, Oklahoma, died Saturday, April 6, 2002. Mr. Royston was born July 31, 1956, in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Lyle Sheldon and Shirley Jane (Bursley) Royston. He loved fishing and worked yard maintenance for a landscaping company. He is survived by his parents Lyle and Shirley of Clarksville, Michigan, son Shelby Royston and step-son Jeremy Foreman of Cartwright, Oklahoma, and sister Yvonne (Gary) Stults of Bellevue, Michigan, niece Laura Bracy, nephew Jerry Bracy, 2 great nieces Kerstin Linn and Brooke Bracy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Leo and Freda Royston and George and Elsie Reed. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2002 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Randy Royston officiating. Interment will be in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing, Michigan. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm Thursday at Pray Funeral Home. Melvin Keith Moore
88, of Vermontville and Hastings, died Sunday, April 7, 2002. Mr. Moore was born October 25, 1913, in Gratiot County, Michigan, the son of Harry B. and Olive M. (Price) Moore. Melvin was a Mill Wright for General Motors working at the Oldsmobile Plant 2. He was a member of the U. A. W. Local Union 1618. He was a member of the Vermontville Bible Church and known as the "bicycle man" in Vermontville. He was active with the Olivet Senior Citizens. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and games. He is survived by daughter Joan (Homer) Winegar of Vermontville, son Keith (Martha) Moore of Vermontville, daughter Nancy (Bill) Ostergren of Nashville, brothers Alvah Moore and Harry "Duane" Moore of Holt, 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris (Marrison), and sister Helen Smythe. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Vermontville Bible Church with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, Michigan. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan.
Charles Frederick "Fritz" Gordon
81, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002. Mr. Gordon was born January 27, 1921, in Winamac, Indiana, the son of Charles A. and Nellie F. (McCoy) Gordon. Mr. Gordon was an electrician for Fisher Body. Prior to moving to Michigan, he owned and operated Kenton Electric Motors in Kenton, Ohio. He was a member of the Kenton First Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge, Lawrence Valley Grange and a Boy Scout Leader. He is survived by daughters Phyllis (Terry) Southerly of Potterville, Nancy (Michael) Livingston of Eaton Rapids, son David (Kristine) Gordon of Charlotte, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Ruth (Andrew) Morton of Richmond, Virginia and Lois Bowers of Rochester, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Hesser) in June of 1998, brothers Robert and Harry. Funeral service 2:30 pm Saturday, April 13, 2002 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Chaplain Robert Palmer officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville, Michigan. Visitation will be 7 - 9 pm Friday, April 12, 2002 at Pray Funeral Home.
Faith Ann Thompson
59, of Charlotte, Michigan, born December 1. 1942, beloved wife of Harry Thompson. Faith died at home after a courageous battle with cancer, Thursday, April 11, 2002. Preceeding her in death was her mother Ila M. Bender, her father Eric R. Christianson and her brother James E. Dulong. Survivors include her husband Harry, dear sisters Sharon Seeley of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Karen Shannon of Pasadena, Maryland, Shirley Cokonougher of Ermine, Kentucky and Mary Horstman of Williamston, many nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Thompson was a wonderful homemaker and she enjoyed animals, especially dogs and cats. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2002 at Charlotte Assembly of God Church with Rev. Mark Woodbury officiating. Visitation will be Sunday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan.
Clarence J. Hodges
72, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Thursday, April 11, 2002. Mr. Hodges was born September 18, 1929, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of John Cloyce and Lottie (Sullivan) Hodges. He worked for Oldsmobile in the main plant for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a former member of V.F.W. 701 and 1632 in Lansing. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy, son Ed (Rose) Hodges of Charlotte, and sister Novella LaTourette of Spring Lake, Michigan. He was preceded in death by a daughter Kathy in 2000. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2002 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte with Rev. Father Denis R. Spitzley officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville, Michigan. Visitation will be 6 - 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm Sunday at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan.
Clare Ellwyn Steward
80 of Charlotte, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 11, 2002. Mr. Steward was born December 3, 1921 in Ionia County, Sebawa Township, Michigan, the son of Charles R. and Edna (Blood) Steward. He was a truck driver for over 30 years, working 25 years for Howard Sober and 5 years for Fleet Carrier. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, cribbage, collecting John Deere tractors and miniature trucks and tractors. He attended Sunfield United Brethren Church. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey (Satterly) Steward, son Lester C. (Linda) Steward of Charlotte, daughters Nina Mae (Raymond) Glasscock of Florida, Gayla L. (Albert) Kienutske of Nashville, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister Francis (David) Fast of Hutchison, Kansas and brother Wayne (Mary Jean) Steward of Sunfield. He was predeceased by brother Mercade and sister Irene Foltz. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2002 at Sunfield United Brethren Church with Pastor's Mark E. Ralph and Darrel Bosworth officiating. The family will receive visitors 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2002 at the church.
Doris Ann Dean
61, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Sunday, April 14, 2002. Miss Dean was born January 13, 1941, in Charlotte, Michigan, the daughter of Nyle E. and Lucille (Youngs) Dean. She is survived by sister Shirley L. (Vernon) Curtis of Nashville, Michigan, step-mother Janet Dean of Charlotte, step-sister Nancy (Dan) Engel of Charlotte and 5 nephews and 3 nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents. Graveside services will be Noon, Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Millerburg Cemetery in Charlotte with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating.
Francis (Fran) H. Albert
78 of Harbor Springs, Michigan, died Friday, April 19,2002. Mrs. Albert was born October 21, 1923, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Carrick) Higby. She is survived by husband Rod Albert, daughters Barbara Lorenzen of Kalamazoo, Betty (Carl) Peterson of Lansing, grandchildren Jason Peterson, Jody Peterson, Jamie Lorenzen, great grandchildren Zachary, Allison, Ryan and Kyle Peterson, and sister Pat Endicott of California. She was preceded in death by first husband James Bovill. Private services will be held.

78, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, April 22, 2002. Mr. Gregory was born November 18, 1923, in Girard, Kansas, the son of Thomas and Leona G. (Smith) Gregory. He was a member of the Jehovah Witnesses. He is survived by daughter Deborah (Larry) Gretzner of Charlotte, granddaughters Aimee (Cole) Cain of Lansing, Sara and Elissa of Charlotte, brother Thomas Gregory Jr., and sister Virginia Zuck. Memorial services will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2002 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 10 N. Chester Rd., Charlotte, Michigan.

40 of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, April 22, 2002. Mr. Kunz was born February 27, 1962 in Livonia, Michigan, the son of Richard Allen and Patsy (Fonville) Kunz. He was a member of the Wednesday Night Bowling League at Char Lanes in Charlotte. He is survived by his wife Jennifer Kunz, son Aaron, daughters Emily and Elizabeth, mother Patsy Kunz of Howell, sister Pamela Baumkratz of Howell, brother Roger Kunz of Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Wade Gillespie officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ardyce Briggs
68 of Ionia, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002. Mrs. Briggs was born July 25, 1933 in Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of Shirley and Hermina (Zemke) Southern. She loved to sew for her family and friends and loved playing bridge. She is survived by her husband James, sons Rodney (Ronda), Bradley (Gailene), Dennis (Vicki), Scott Briggs all of Ionia, daughters Teressa Briggs and Chris (Kim) Rowley of Ionia, Karen (Rich) Taylor of Byron Center, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Mary Jean Hadden of Wayland, Barbara Ann (Charles) Wilson of Williamston, aunt Elizabeth Stowe of Ionia and brother-in-law Nyle (Judy) Briggs of Battle Creek. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Interment will be in Kalamo Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 1-3 p.m. and 6- 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at 1:30 p.m. at the Ionia Moose Lodge, 869 E. Lincoln (M-21) in Ionia. If desired, contributions may be made to the family for future designation.
