Gladys Marie (Kelley) Curtis
age 81 of Charlotte, Michigan, died May 30, 2001. Mrs. Curtis was born March 18, 1920 in Clare, Michigan, the daughter of George and Dora (Miller) Highlen. Mrs. Curtis was a member of the Congregational Church in Charlotte, an avid square dancer, and enjoyed gardening and traveling. She is survived by daughters Charlotte (Kelly) Custer of Edwardsburg, Betty Feintuch of Okemos, Janet (Ron) Baker of Eaton Rapids, Linda (Dick) Feldpausch of Holt, Tammy (David) Sercombe of Hanover, son Leonard Kelley of Arizona, daughter-in-law Gwen Kelley of Arizona, 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandaughter, sister Fern Jenkins of Lansing, close friend Ray Burley of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by son Fred Kelley, brother George Highlen and sister Flossie DeBarr. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Donald O. Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Needmore Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity or Needmore Cemetery.
Clara Marie Dossett
91, of LaMesa, California, formerly of Charlotte, died, Friday, June 1, 2001. Mrs. Dossett was born August 14, 1909, in Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of John and Zora (Gidner) Holmes. She was a secretary for Civil Service in the San Diego County Health Department for approximately 30 years. She is survived by brothers Kenneth Holmes of Lansing, Wayne Holmes of Ridgewood, New Jersey, sisters Irene Hart of Fullerton, California, and Gladys Coats of Charlotte, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband Forrest in 1934, brother Ivan Holmes and sister Della DuBois. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Marvin J. Nelson
96, of Charlotte, Michigan, died June 2, 2001. Marvin was born December 19, 1904, in Sidney Township, Montcalm County, Michigan, the son of Albert and Marie (Pedersen) Nelson. He attended Muskrat Country School, Greenville High School, and graduated from Sheridan High School. He also attended Ferris Institute. He married Hazel (Eriksen) on June 25, 1929. He was County Abstractor of the Montcalm County Abstract office in Stanton for 25 years before purchasing the Eaton County Abstract Company in Charlotte in 1947. He was joined in partnership by his son in 1958 and sold the business in 1986 to First American Title Company. He and Hazel moved to Independence Village in Grand Ledge in 1999. He has held memberships in Michigan Land Title Association, American Land Title Association, Charlotte Lion's Club, Charlotte Yacht Club, Michigan Tree Farmer's Association, and was a Lifetime Mason. He was also active in Boy Scouting. He and Hazel were Charter members of Peace Lutheran Church where he served as Treasurer for many years. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Hazel, son, Roger (Jane) Nelson of Duck Lake, daughter, Jeanette (Fred) Kogge of Hastings, grandchildren, Steven (Sumire) Kogge, Scott (Rose) Kogge, Sandra (Gary) Ragan, Stuart (Kathie) Kogge, Michael (Kathleen) Nelson, Judy (Matthew) Wineinger, Robin Nelson, step-grandchildren, Sarah and Sam Kellogg, Andrea and Derek King and, great-grandchildren, Lauren Kogge, Katherine and Erik Ragan, Kyle and Connor Kogge, Abby and Megan Wineinger and Olivia Nelson, sister Evelyn Strobridge of Greenville, sister-in-laws Frances Eriksen of Grand Rapids, Erma Sheaha of Santa Barbara, CA and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, Arnold (Donna) Nelson and Clifford (Leona) Nelson, bothers-in-law Elmer Strobridge, Peter Sheaha and Lester Eriksen. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Noel Hall-Neimann officiating. Interment 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at South Sidney Cemetery in Montcalm County. Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-8 p.m. Monday at the Pray Funeral Home. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
Donald H. Peterson
76, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Sunday, June 3, 2001. Mr. Peterson was born April 3, 1925 in Lincoln Park, MI the son of George and Mable (Hubbard) Peterson. He was an electrician for Ford and G.M. for many years. He was a retired member of the UAW and DAV, and 3rd Armored Division. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre. He is survived by his wife Marie Louise (Zenner), daughters Marie Ann (Brian) Callahan of Boston and Michelle Kay Peterson of Charlotte, grandchildren Shane, Kendra and Brian Jarret. A scripture service will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001 with visitation from 4 - 6 p.m. before the service at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Eaton County Humane Society.
Lynn "Bud" Miller
83 of Eaton Rapids, died June 3, 2001. Mr. Miller was born April 24, 1918 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Gordon and Hazel (Oberlin) Miller. He is survived by daughter Jean Riley of Killeen, Texas, sons Douglas (Sara) Miller of Covington, Georgia; Richard Miller of Rockledge, Florida; step-daughter Betty Wainright of Charlotte; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Ernestine in January 2000. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 8 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 on Thursday. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.
Linda S. Lovejoy
age 50 of Grand Ledge, died June 6, 2001. Linda was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on November 29, 1950, the daughter of Luther and Winnie (Bottoms) Hill. She is survived by two sons, Mickel Carmoney, Brian Carmoney-Shive, and a daughter Pam, 4 grandchildren, three brothers James, Donald, and Wendell Hill and her sister, Billie Hughes. Today she rejoins her two sons, Robert and Tommy who preceded her in death.
Bonnie Mae (King) Ohm
age 59 of Nashville, Michigan died June 7, 2001 at Kalamazoo. She was born in Charlotte, April 22, 1942 the daughter of Ward Beecher and Gladys Irene (Disbrow) King. She was an Underwriter for Century Mutual Insurance and an Underwriter Trainer for Auto Owners Insurance Co. Bonnie was a graduate of the Vermontville High School class of 1960 and served as class secretary, and active alumnus. She is survived by her husband Richard, two sons Kevin Ohm of Kalamazoo, Aaron Ohm of Nashville, sister Diane (Bob) Stoddard of Kalamazoo Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 11, 2001 at 3:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Charlotte with the Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Saturday 2-4 & Sunday 5-8 P.M. at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Dorene Pratt
81 of Charlotte, Michigan, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at the Moore's Adult Foster Care Home after a long illness. Mrs. Pratt was born August 21, 1919 in Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of Leland and Zella Loveland. Mrs. Pratt worked as a bookkeeper and cashier for the A & P Stores, enjoyed sewing for her family, crafts, and traveling. She enjoyed her home on the lake in Cadillac. She is survived by daughters Brenda (Jerry) Heisler of Olivet, Linda (William) Newland of Bellevue, 4 grandchildren, brother Dale Loveland of Lake Odessa, sisters Theda Devenbaugh of Charlotte, Fran Carpenter of Potterville, Lois Thompson of Charlotte and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 infant children, and brothers Don Loveland and Eugene (Dutch) Loveland. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Monday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Charlotte 4H Sewing Club. Cordelia I. Callahan
93 of Charlotte, formerly of Texas, died Monday June 11, 2001. Mrs. Callahan was born January 14, 1908 in Bradford, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Elmer and Bessie (Irvin) Cole. She was a home health care worker with UpJohn and had been a lifelong member of the Southside Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas. She is survived by son Tim (Shirley) Callahan of Perry, 3 grandchildren, Sterling (Theresa) Jennings, Timothy Patrick and Gregory Scott (Kim) Anderson, 4 great grandchildren, Cody and MacKenzie Callahan, Nicholas and Morgan Anderson. She was preceded in death by daughter Patricia Joann. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Visitation will be noon to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the funeral. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Louis Francis Mosier
85, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, June 11, 2001. Mr. Mosier was born February 13, 1916, in Vermontville, Michigan the son of Lynn and Mary (Arntz) Mosier. He was a Layout Inspector for Oldsmobile before retiring in 1977 and had farmed most of his life in the Eaton County area. He was a member and Past Master of the Potterville Masonic Lodge #367 and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #413. He is survived son Lynned Mosier of Charlotte, daughters Kim (Mark) LaCount of Charlotte, Linda (Steve) Donley of Potterville, Sibyl (Mike) Moreno of Charlotte, Suzan Woodhams of Potterville, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sister Barbara Ward of Potterville. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Riedl) in 1996. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at Pray Funeral Home. Agnes Campbell
95 of Charlotte, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001. Miss Campbell was born October 14, 1905 in Urbana, Illinois, the daughter of Sam and Alta May (Canaday) Campbell. Miss Campbell attended business college in Urbana, and owned Campbell's Grocery in Champaign, Illinois. Following that she was on staff at the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music, and later served on the staff of Frontier School of the Bible in LaGrange Wyoming. She finished her missionary career with the Child Evangelism Fellowship in Montana. She was currently a member of the Chester Gospel Church of Charlotte. She is survived by her nieces Phyllis (Harold) Smuts of Charlotte and Barbara (H. Albert) Sundberg of Indian River, and her nephew Lawrence (Beverly) Campbell of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Samuel Clifford, Clarence, and Ralph. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. H. Albert Sundberg officiating. Interment will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001 in Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana, Illinois. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Thursday at the Pray Funeral Home. Jerome "Jerry" Dennis Boardman
55, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001. Mr. Boardman was born January 2, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Jerome Vincent and Evelyn Agnes (Reid) Boardman. Jerry has been an inspiration to many of those he has been in contact with by the way he has approached his illness. Some have said that Jerry "has taught us all how to die." He concentrated on living each day in the best possible way and with the thought that what really matters is relationships with family and friends. He was the Director of Special Education for Haslett Public Schools before retiring in June of 2000. He assisted students with special needs for 26 years: his whole career was in special education. He was former President of the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE). He also held a private pilots license. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Balint), daughter Kristin, son Jeremy and sister Gail and her husband, Larry Goldman, four nieces, two nephews, and two grand nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday 6-8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. age 70 of Charlotte, died June 16,2001 at Ingham Medical Hospital. Mrs. French was born in Eaton County, the daughter of George B. and Mary Ethel (Andrews) Hall. She is survived by daughters Charlotte (Tom) Donaldson of Scottville, Mary E. (Norman) Stadel of Bellevue, Georgia Farr of Charlotte, Ruth French of Onondaga, Wilma (Dan) Ketchum of Linden; sons Charles French of Onondaga, Martin (Lisa) French of Charlotte, Richard (Monica) French of Marshall, William (Kim) French Jr. of Onondaga, 40 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, brother George Z. Hall of Charlotte, sister Pauline Bruce of Kalkaska and several nieces and nephews She was predeceased by her parents; former husband William Sr.; sister Mary (Leonard) French; and grandchildren John Pontz, and Tom Van Horn and Beloved Friend Homer Bryant. The family will receive visitors from 3-5 and 7-9 Tuesday at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday June 20, 2001 at the Pray Funeral Home. Age 70, Died Saturday, June 16, 2001 at the Mercy Medical Facility in Daphne, Ala. She was a native of Dansville, Mi and a resident of Summerdale, Al. Mrs. Livingston is survived by 4 daughters: Wanda Kay (Steve) Lahr of Duck Lake, Mi, Janet Lee Kruskamp of Clair, Mi., Dawn Annette (James) Collier of Sumerdale, Al., April Gay Livingston of Robertsdale, Al; 4 sons; Robert L.V. Livingston of Hastings, Mi., Melvin W. (Beth) Gleason of Dansville, Mi., Olin Edmund Gleason of Colorado Springs, Co., Timothy D. Livingston of Foley, Al., 2 sisters : Martha Garred of Jackson, Mi., Jessie Hollister of Jackson, Mi. and many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
