81, of Bellevue, Michigan died Sunday, July 22, 2001. Marjorie was born June 13, 1920, in Howell, Michigan, the daughter of Lester and Elsie M. (Miller) Huff. She was a retired secretary from Charlotte Public Schools, and was a past member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church, Eaton County Retired Secretary's group and MARSP. She is survived by daughters Margie (Douglas) Murphy of Bellevue; Vicki Porter of Battle Creek, Michigan; son Lynn Patrick McKee of San Francisco, California; step-children Jack and Janet Munn, Carol Pixley, and Charles Munn; 5 grandchildren Aaron and Amanda Murphy, Amy and Andrew McKee, and Jeffery Porter Rogers 2 great grandchildren Alexis Murphy and Jacob Smith, brothers Robert Huff of Howell, Michigan, Kenneth Huff of Chico, California, sister Phyllis Gehringer of Avon Park, Florida. She was preceded in death by husbands Don McKee, L.V. Porter, John Munn and brother Gerald Huff. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Bellevue United Methodist Church with Rev. Wendell Stine officiating. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. at Lakeside Cemetery in Howell, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday 7 - 9 p.m. and Wednesday 7 - 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association or the Bellevue United Methodist Church.

Stuart Charles Chalker
84, of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, died Friday, July 20, 2001. Mr Chalker was born May 10, 1917, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Charles and Hazel (Smith) Chalker. He was a boiler control repairman for the Lansing Board of Water and Light for 30 years. He served with the Army Air Force during WWII. He was a member of the Masons and the American Legion. He is survived by daughter Sharon Chalker of St. Johns, MI., and stepdaughters Mary Lou Lohr of San Diego, CA., and Kathy (Robb) Dickerson of Rogers, Arkansas, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2001 at South Church of the Nazarene 401 West Holmes Rd, Lansing, Michigan.

Clarence Wesley Vance
76, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Friday, July 27, 2001. Mr. Vance was born April 9, 1925 in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of Clayton and Maggie (Taylor) Vance. He was a laborer at Owens-Illinois Brockway Glass Containers and had been a member of Eagles Aerie of Ohio. He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, fishing and collected coins and stamps. He is survived by his wife Gay (Kessinger) Vance; daughters Sue Vance of Dimondale; Brenda (Chuck) Tomlinson of Charlotte; Chris (Steve) Morris of Charlotte; Terri (Joe) Jenson of Charlotte; Rita Poyer of Bellevue; son William (Sue) Vance of Bellevue; 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, sister Alpha Meadows of WV; brothers Dennis Vance, Leonard Vance, Jim Vance, Jack Vance, Garland Vance, Bob Vance all of WV; Jerry Vance of FL, Cecil Vance of IL. He was preceded in death by brothers Clinton Vance and Charles Vance and sisters Retha Facemyer and Ruth Linville and son-in-law Brian Poyer. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Paul Davis and Rev. Jim Vance officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue. Visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Rodney Manning Frei
age 29, of Eaton Rapids, Michigan died Saturday, August 11, 2001 a result of a motorcycle accident. Mr. Frei was born October 13, 1971 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Dennis and Nancy (Budziak) Frei. He worked in the Technical and Facilities Maintenance Department, College of Veterinarian Medicine at Michigan State University. He was a loving and devoted father to his daughters, a great and loyal friend to many. He was an avid motorcycle fan and raised money for the St.Vincent Home for Children through the Survivors Motorcycle Charity Run. He is survived by daughters Chelsie, Mackenzi and Hannah, his parents, sister Courteney Frei, and grandfather John Budziak. Funeral mass will be 11:00 AM Monday at St. Mary Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis R. Spitzley officiating. Visitation will be 6-9 Sunday, August 12 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. If desired memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Home for Children.

Arlie B. Dimond
80, of Charlotte, Michigan, died August 11, 2001. Mr. Dimond was born September 15, 1920, in Hastings, Michigan, the son of Walter and Flossie Dimond. He was past commander of VFW Maple City Post #2406 and a member of American Legion Post #42. He was in the Military Police during WWII and served in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He retired from Lansing Electric Motors in 1980 after 33 years. He is survived by wife, Maurine, sons David (Sandy) and John (Joyce); and daughter Sandra all of Charlotte; stepdaughter Sandra Bassett of Phoenix, AZ; step son-in-law, Richard (Janet) Brummette of Grand Ledge; 2 grandsons Matt (Karla) Dimond and Jason Dimond; 2 granddaughters Shelly (Jeff) Kyle and Jennifer (Scott) Shockley; 1 great grandson Hunter Dimond; 1 great granddaughter Ashley Kyle; 5 step-grandsons; 1 step-granddaughter; 3 step-great-grandsons; 5 step-great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean, in 1980; sister Mildred Carter and brother James. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m.Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Carol Spangenburg officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2001. David Franklin Letts
age 47, died August 17, 2001 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Letts was born December 10, 1953 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Harry and Oleta (Smith) Letts. He was a repair technician for Lazy Boy. He served in the U.S. Army with active duty in Vietnam, was a member of the American Legion #42, and coached Little League baseball. Dave enjoyed karioki singing, bowling, hunting, MSU sports, and his seasonal home at Lighthouse Village Resort. Dave is survived by his wife Debora (VanLiew), sons Jeremy of Haslett, Jammie of Lansing, and Lucas of Dimondale, stepdaughter Dayna Lewis of Charlotte, stepson Donald (Kim) Lewis of California, grandson Noah Letts, step grandson Dalton Lewis, mother and step father Oleta (Richard) Cook of Lake, brothers Vern (Karen) Letts of Lake, Joe Letts of Eaton Rapids, Ron Letts of Florida, Harry Letts of Lansing, sisters Susan Smith of Bath, Rena Barrix of Lansing, Erma May-Letts of Florida, Michelle (Jeremy) Cole of Lansing, Nona Letts and Agnes Letts of Lake. He was predeceased by his father and sister Vanessa. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 20 with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville. Visitation will be Saturday 7 - 9 and Sunday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 at the funeral home. Burniece A. (Day) Love
83 of Charlotte, died August 17, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. Love was born April 16, 1918 in Sacramento, California, the daughter of Milo and Emma Gladys (Walling) Spencer. Mrs. Love was a librarian for the Charlotte Public Library and an active member of the community. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Northside Mother's Club, Hayes Green Beach Hospital Auxilliary and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She had been a leader in the Scouts, Blue Birds, and Camp Fire Girls. Surviving are her husband Werlin, sons Merlyn LeRoy (Yoko) Day of San Jose, California, Randy (Virginia) Day of Charlotte, daughters Rebecca Day of Manistee, Cindy Eaton and her fiance, Darrin of St. Petersburg, Florida, 5 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, step-son David (Elaine) Love, Dafter, Michigan, 2 step-grandsons and 2 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by second husband Merlyn, son Terry Day and granddaughter Dedrea. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 22 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. George Fleming and Arley Nelson officiating with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Visitation will be Monday 7-9 PM and Tuesday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the funeral home. William Russell Joppie
58 of Vermontville, died Friday August 17, 2001 at his residence surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. Joppie was born February 23, 1943 in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Russell and Janice (Hadden) Joppie. He worked as a supervisor for General Motors for 34 years and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #3552 and the Seney Social Club. He is survived by wife Lee, sons Tim of Nashville, Steve of Vermontville, daughter Marcy (Chad) Gross of Vermontville, his father Russell Joppie of Charlotte, grandchildren Storm and Savanah, Matt and Donny, Hutch and Hadley, Cortney, Corbin, Jacob, Amanda, and Matthew, step-son Allan (Patricia) Gardner of Nashville, step-daughter Denice (Rod) Scramlin of Nashville, brothers Ron (Diane) Joppie of Charlotte, Rick (Diane) Joppie of San Antonio, Texas, and Randy (Judy) Joppie of Rockford. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy in 1992, mother, brother Jerry and second wife, Joyce. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 21 at Pray Funeral Home, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Burial will be in Needmore Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Sunday, and 2-4 PM and 7-9PM Monday at the funeral home. Velma A. Sanders
81, of Jackson, Michigan, died Sunday, August 19, 2001, in Ann Arbor. Mrs. Sanders was born June 22, 1920, in Jackson, Michigan, the daughter of George Courtright and Mildred McCarn Courtright. She retired from Hoover Manufacturing and enjoyed crocheting and cake decorating. She is survived by daughters Lillian (Harry) Belieu of Yakima, WA, and Sandra Kay (Jerry) Andrus of Grass Lake, MI; son Jack E. (Karen) Sanders of Charlotte, MI; 11 Grandchildren, Donald and Glen Belieu, Velma Amundson, Jeff, Greg, Todd and Eric Sanders, Carl and Michael Warren, Jennifer and Jilene Andrus; 12 Great Grandchildren; sister Leona Puffenberger of Lakeland, Fl; and sister-in-law Connie Courtright of Murfreesboro, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1957, and son Jerry in 1949. Funeral services will be 1PM Thursday at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Charles McNeil officiating with burial in Needmore Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday at Pray Funeral Home. Stephen (Eagle) M. Douglas
52, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Wednesday, August 22, 2001. Mr. Douglas was born May 13, 1949, in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of Woodrow Wilson and Wanita (LaFon) Douglas. He was an electrician for Owens Illinois and Spartan Motors. He is survived by daughters, Michelle (Dennis) Kowalski of Lansing, Josette (Dennis) Jubb of Bath, grandsons, Mason and Hunter, father, Woodrow of Bath, and several cousins, aunts and uncles and many life long friends in the Charlotte area. Memorial service will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 29, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, with Pastor Dan Wilkinson officiating. Family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday from 1PM until the service time. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Hepatitis Foundation International or Alcoholics Anonymous.

Janette Kay Goelz-Comstock
59 of Charlotte, Michigan, died Saturday, August 25, 2001. Janette was born March 26, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of George and Mary (Weiderman) Goelz. She was a supervisor for the State of Michigan, Department of Treasury in Lansing, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Charlotte. Hobbies included playing cards with her friends and Janette was a former member of the Laugh-A-Lot Club. Survivors include son Jason Comstock, brother Gordon (Gail) Goelz of Lansing, Harold (Janet) Goelz of Charlotte, step-daughters Kim (Randy) Hansen, Sandra (Charles Washburn, step-son Eugene Comstock, 3 step-grandsons, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Scott in 1997. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 28 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev Glen Neal officiating. Interment will be in Danby Cemetery in Danby Township. Visitation will be Monday 2-4 PM and 7-9PM at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice or the Nazarene Church of Charlotte. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Patty Dale Allen
57, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Saturday, August 25, 2001. Mrs. Allen was born July 3, 1944, in Charlotte, Michigan, the daughter of Eldon L. Stahr and Helen M. Powers Stahr. She was a General Operator for Tenneco Automotive. She was a member of the Grace Community Church in Nashville, Michigan. She is survived by her husband, Bruce D. Allen; daughter Cheril (Michael) Smith of Charlotte; son Steven Steward of Vermontville; stepson Clayton Allen of Potterville; 3 grandchildren, Robert, Carson and Kirsten Dalelynne; brother Randy (Gloria) Rolfe of Charlotte; sister Dixie (Edwin) Collier of Olivet; father Eldon L. Stahr of Kalamo; father-in-law Karl (B. J.) Allen of Florida; and sister-in-law Susan Allen of California. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Don Roscoe officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery. June King
87, of Charlotte, Michigan, passed away August 27, 2001, at Sparrow Hospital after a brief but difficult illness. She was born June 9, 1914 to Ben and Sarah (Taylor) Butler and they preceded her in death, along with brothers Bill, Phil, Tom and sister Marion (Bill) Wright. Richard, her beloved husband and best friend of 39 years, also preceded her in death in March 2000, and they are surely together again. Surviving is their son Randy (Adele) King of Pinckney, Michigan, granddaughters Michelle (Brooke) Plantz of Ann Arbor,MI; Stephanie King of Jenison, MI; sisters-in-law Elaine (Bill) Butler of Grand Ledge, Wanda (Phil) Butler of Lansing and Myrtle (Paul) King of Glendale, AZ; nieces and nephews including Vivian (Donald) Schultz and Connie (Jim) Garrison of Charlotte; many great nieces and nephews including Rachael (Scott) McLane; Andrea Ostrander and Cana Garrison. She enjoyed a very active life including deer hunting, turkey hunting, fishing, boating, playing cards, gardening, canning and spending time with her many wonderful friends and relatives. She was a dynamic person and will be missed very much by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. In her younger days, she was an avid bowler and worked in the health care field in Detroit, MI. She and her husband also owned King's Bar in Dexter, MI for 21 years. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 31, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Todd McLane officiating. Interment will be in Center Eaton Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm Thursday, August 30, 2001.
