Hawk, Kenneth R.

Age 67, died, September 4, 2003. He was born on August 31, 1936 in DeWitt, MI. Mr. Hawk served in the United States Air Force, attended MSU, worked for Firestone in Akron, OH, and for General Motors during his career. He owned and operated A/RP Healthcare Billing Network with his wife, until they retired in 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Virginia Hawk. He is survived by his wife, Christina; children, Chloe (Elton) Hudson, Laura, Diane and Richard (Patrice) Hawk, Kimberly Allison, Christina (Michael) Carr, Jamie Mattingly, and Jaye (Richard) Dehn; 16 grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters, Bonnie (Laurence) Coe, Janet (James) Cribbs, Cindy (Kim) Smith; and step-mother, Celia Hawk. There will be no visitation. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, 1755 Abbey Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823, in memory of Kenneth Hawk. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Hatfield, Bonnie M.

Age 73, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2001. She was born on January 3, 1928 in Bunno, Ohio the daughter of Fred and Dora (LaFountain) LaCourse. She retired from Secretary of State and worked at Sears in the Credit Department. She is survived by: husband, John; mother, Dora LaCourse; son, Michael Hatfield; daughter, Patricia (George) Churchill; grandchildren, Kristy (Mark) Vukovich, Kari Churchill, and Kevin Churchill; great grandchildren, Katelyn, Janna and Melanie; sister, Audrey (Louis) Hatfield; brothers, Kenneth (Judy) LaCourse, Stanley LaCourse, Raymond (Janice) LaCourse, and Leonard (Lucille) LaCourse. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 31 and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Parkinson's Foundation.
Haskin, Martha I.
Lansing, MI
Age 88, passed away on November 26, 2003. She was born a daughter of Edd A. and Martha J. (Guthrie) Keeney on December 20, 1914 in Indianola, IA., and has lived in the Lansing area most of her life. Martha was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Lansing Child Study Club, the Grandmother’s Club, Fortnightly, Entre Nous, O.E.S. Arbutus Chapter and was a former, long time treasurer of the Beta Epsilon Chapter House Corporation of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Haskin in 1982, and by son-in-laws, George Alexopulos and Lawrence Conarton, Sr. Surviving are: 2 daughters, Nadien Conarton of Eaton Rapids, and Martha “Josie” Haskin of New York, NY; 7 grandchildren, Gwendolyn Conarton of Lansing, April Conarton of Eaton Rapids, Lawrence (Patricia) Conarton, Jr. of Holt, Timothy Conarton, Sr. of Eaton Rapids, Renee (Carl) Richards of Holt, Amy Conarton of Jacksonville, FL., and Christopher (fiancé Shelby) Conarton of Hillard, OH.; 7 great grandchildren, Brian, Lawrence III, Charles, Timothy, Jr. and Katie Conarton and Brenden and Jerika Richards along with one great great granddaughter, Amber Conarton as well as her brother-in-law Donald Shipman of Middleville, MI.; several nieces and nephews and Brutus, her adoring cat. The family will be holding private interment services, with a public memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Francis Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church or Meals on Wheels of Ingham County.
Hartman, Marie "Tiny"

Age 85, passed away on September 28, 2001. She was born on February 20, 1916 in Bloomfield Township, MI, and has lived in Lansing most of her life. Mrs. Hartman was a member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and had been employed at G&G Catering for several years, retiring in 1988. She loved flowers and her dog, "Macho." Surviving are: daughters, LaVon Patterson of Lansing and Naomi Shoen of Las Vegas, NV; sons, Gary (Irene) Hartman of Battle Creek and David (Jeanette) Hartman of Seymour, TN; grandchildren, Rick (Stacy) Patterson, William Patterson, Linda (Larry) Maupin, James (Angela) Shoen, Greg (Lorri Trayer) Hartman, David (Stacy) Hartman, Jr., Daniel (Susan) Hartman and Kristy (David) Elder; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander "Pee Wee" Hartman in 1982. A funeral service was conducted by The Rev. Daniel M. Buske and The Rev. Paul J. Lindloff, of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church in memory of Marie "Tiny" Hartman.
Hartig, Geraldine H.
Holt, MI
Age 77, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2003. She was born on April 12, 1925 in Delhi Township, MI, a daughter of Kenneth and Dorothy (Cole). Geraldine was a graduate of Lansing Eastern, and had worked a secretary at Michigan State University for 17 years, before retiring in 1987. She also volunteered at Ingham Regional Medical Center for a number of years. Survivors include: daughter, Connie (Gale) Lynch of Saranac; sons, Donald B. (Vicky) Hartig of Laingsburg and James (Ruth) Hartig of Elk Rapids; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Richard and LeRoy Parker; along with several nieces and nephews. Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Donald V. “John” Hartig in 1998 and her brother, Russell Parker. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Wesley B. Emerson at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Geraldine, to the Charcot Marie Tooth Foundation-Research or to Hospice of Lansing Residence.
Hartig, Eileen E.
Holt, MI
Eileen E. Hartig, age 86, passed away on May 4, 2003. Mrs. Hartig was born on December 6, 1916 in Pompeii, Michigan to Edward and Maude (Hefty) Foster, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Ithaca High School and lived in Ithaca until she married Marshall E. Hartig on August 10, 1941. She then moved to Holt. They were married for 56 years when Marshall died in 1997. She was a member of the Holt United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Mrs. Hartig was a seamstress by trade. She gave many hours to her sewing passion, creating wedding gowns and various projects for her many clients. She touched many lives with her needle and thread. Eileen took great pleasure in singing with her sisters and other family members. However, her greatest role in life was being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She encouraged any occasion that involved the gathering of her family. Surviving are sons; Jeff (Sharon) Hartig of Charlotte, Jon (Dawn) Hartig of Holt, David Hartig of Holt, and Michael (Kimberly) Hartig of Holt; daughters Carol Barish of DeWitt, Cheryl (James) Ordway of Holt, Christine (Thomas) Graham of Dimondale, daughter-in-law, Toni Hartig of Charlotte; 24 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; sister, Bettye (Ray) Helman of St. Louis, MI and sisters-in-law Jacqueline Hartig of Holt and Barbara Moore of St. Johns. She was also preceded in death by brothers Harold and Edward Foster; sisters Anna Shock and Helen Reed; son Joe Merrick Hartig and grandchild, Joe Merrick Hartig Jr. Special thanks to the staff at Columbia Valley Adult Foster Care for their loving tender care. Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2:00 PM at the Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 Aurelius Rd., Holt, with the Rev. Joe Huston officiating. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM, May 14th. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the Holt United Methodist Church, Ingham Hospice, or the charity of your choice in memory of Eileen E. Hartig.
Hart, Bette Lu Elsesser

Age 77, passed away on November 22, 2001. She was born on May 31, 1924 in Holt, MI and has been a Lansing resident all of her life. She was preceded in death by: loving husband, Frederick. Surviving are: devoted daughter, Catherine "Cat" Grieve; sister-in-law, Barbara Zahn; 3 nephews and 1 niece; special friend, Magoo. Bette was involved the majority of her life in the retail and wholesale flower business, and owner of the flower shop in Holt for many years. Bette will also be remembered as a hostess at Stephen's Family Restaurant and also at the Regent Café. Her contagious smile affected us all in so many ways and she will be deeply missed. A funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Jerry Dean at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Sunday. Those desiring to make a contribution in Bette's name, may do so to Hospice of Lansing, Residence.
Mathews, Eugene A.

Age 80, passed away on December 16, 2002. He was born on April 2, 1922 in Lansing to Francis and Esther (Perkins) Mathews. Eugene was a W.W.II Army Veteran. He was retired from the State of Michigan office of Management and Budget. Eugene was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 6132. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara. Surviving are son, James (Mary) Mathews and daughter, Paula (Gordon) Dean, Jr.; grandchildren, Shannon and James Jr. (Rebecca Smith) Mathews; great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Mathews; brother, Norman Mathews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or The Grand Rapids Home for Veteran's in memory of Eugene Mathews.
