Cunningham, Glen Monroe
Holt, MI
Age 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 30, 2003. He was born in Alvin, IL. On September 24, 1920 the son of Laroy and Felicia (Claypool). Glen grew up in Oakwood, IL. And graduated from Oakwood H.S. He eventually moved to Danville, IL. Where he met his wife, Margaret, at his church. First Church of the Nazarene. He was very active in many aspects of the church, especially the choir. Glen and Margaret were married on January 12, 1945. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage together. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. Mr. Cunningham worked as an electrician at M.S.U. for 36 years retiring in 1983. In 1984 he and his wife retired to Lakeland, Fl. and enjoyed 16 years of retirement in Florida. Glen was also an avid bowler. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margaret Cunningham; son, Ronald P. Cunningham; daughter, Marcia D. (Rocky) Larner; 4 grandchildren, Melissa J. Caputo, Angela K. Oberlin, Nicholas M. and Jonathon D. Cunningham. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Melvin and Clifton Cunningham. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Suzanne M. Gleason of Mt. Hope Church in DeWitt at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 1, from 6-8 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Glen, to the Alzheimer’s Association.
VanAuken, Hilda
Lansing, MI
Age 100, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2002. She was born on February 10, 1902 in Dimondale, and was raised in Springport. She graduated from Springport High School and Cleary College. She came to Lansing in 1921 and worked for the State of Michigan for 20 years. During WWII she was the Clerk of the Selective Service Local Board #4. She was a Red Cross Volunteer, a Gray Lady at St. Lawrence Hospital, a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, and a member of the Mayflower Circle. She was preceded in death by: her husband of 56 years, Chester, in 1984; and her sister, Myrtelle in 1965. She is survived by: son, Maurice (Joan) VanAuken; daughter, Carole (Ed) Kaneko; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 12:30 p.m., on Friday, March 22, 2002 at Evergreen Cemetery. There was no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church.
Wrook, Robert E.
Holt, MI
Born September 29, 1926, died April 14, 2002 at the age of 75 and lived most of his life in the Holt area. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, with an amphibious group in both theaters. He retired from Michigan State University after 35 years of service as a skilled trades supervisor. He enjoyed loved ones, friends, humor, reading, history, guns, gardening and building things. He was preceded in death by: wife, Virginia; son, Kenneth Wrook; parents, Ernest and Anna Wrook; and brother, Donald Wrook. He is survived by: son, Greg (Lori) Wrook; grandchildren, Brian and Staci; great grandchildren, Amanda, William and Daniel; brother, Richard Wrook; sister-in-law, Marion Wrook; brother-in-law, Carl (Lori) Mason; nieces and nephews, Mike and Kathy Wrook, Joey and Meagan Mason; and three grand nieces, Andrea, Keeley and Kristin Wrook. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. The family received friends one prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sparrow Cancer Center or to Sparrow Hospice Services.
Hanchett, JoJean M.
Tustin, MI (Formerly of Lansing)
Age 75, passed away on May 4, 2003. She was born on October 22, 1927 in Lansing, the daughter of Kenneth John and Goldie Belle (Hyland) Tiedt. JoJean enjoyed crochet and other crafts and loved the outdoors. She is survived by: her husband of 42 years, James R. Hanchett; sons, Frederick L. (Dawn) Bottomley of Traverse City, Kenneth J. Bottomley, Timothy S. (Ruth) Hanchett and Ronald J. Hanchett, all of Tustin; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Norma Jean Terrell of Grand Ledge and Cecelia Dawn Davis of Otter Lake; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Post, Pearl V. “Polly”
Lansing, MI
Age 86, passed away on October 15, 2002. She was born on May 5, 1916 in Detroit to Martha and Allen Berry. After her mother’s death, she was loved and raised by the Gustav Rotzol family. Upon graduating from Central High School in 1934, she married Leo Post in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. Post was a longtime member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, and had been employed at the State of Michigan, Department of Civil Service for over 20 years, retiring as a supervisor. She was very proud of her 20 years of service as a volunteer at Ingham Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed frequent reunions with her high school classmates. She was preceded in death by her parents; adoptive parents; step parents, Stanley and Harriett Stonis; and sister, Bertha Venzke. Surviving are: 2 daughters, Carol (Robert) Rutledge of Lansing and Marilyn (Ronald) Clark of Holt; 2 sons, Stanley (Mary Ann) of Wooster, OH and Rev. Stephen (Mary Ellen) of Grand Marais, MI; 8 grandchildren, Michael Clark, Diana (Chris) Gable, Susan (Brett) Snow, Marnee Rutledge (Teri Wojtowicz), Rachael, Jason, Paul and Peter Post; 6 great grandchildren, Holly, Robbie, Carola, Nicholas, Tara and Brandon; sister, Olga Marks of Lansing, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2002, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 549 E. Mt. Hope, Lansing, with The Rev. James A. Schalkhauser, The Rev. James R. Lichtenberger, and The Rev. Gerald Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Age 73, passed away on June 1, 2004. He was born on July 3, 1930 in Jackson. Mr. Bebee was employed at Wyeth Labs. for 35 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Surviving are: his wife, Ruth N. Bebee; 7 children, Jane (David) Varmecky, Cheryl Bebee, Debra (Thomas) Freeman, Ed (Christie) Wedley, Mark (Jenelle) Wedley, Tammy (George) Skalba, and Tim Wedley; 9 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Russel Dimond; mother-in-law, Betty Dimond; sister-in-law, Maxine Bebee; neice, Jaci Bebee; nephew, Randolph Bebee; cousin, Ruth (Ike) Hendrick; and special friends, Gene Klotz and Hans Huyck. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with Pastor Joe Rabideau officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

Age 53, passed away in Holt Aug. 20, 2001. He was a disabled Veteran of the Viet Nam War. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica in 1985. Surviving are: Wife, Patricia of Decatur; Daughter, Lori (Craig) Rutledge of Holt; 2 Sons, Timothy and Anthony (Whitney) Mitchell of Decatur; Parents, Victor A. Sr. and Maybellle Mitchell of Lansing; 3 sisters, Margie (Wayne) Gladding, Dorris (Jeff) Click, Norrene ( Fred) White. He was also blessed by 5 Grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews. He will be truly missed by all. A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family received friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
Moeller, Ruth Pauline (Herod)

Age 83, passed away on January 26, 2003. Born Ruth Pauline Rife in 1919 in Gretna County, VA, the daughter of Frank Nello and Anzonetta Earle (Bondurant) Rife. In 1921 she moved to Mt. Pleasant, MI, where she grew up on her parents farm. She spent a happy childhood playing in, on and around the Chippewa River with her sister Virginia, dear friend, Mary and all of her childhood friends. In 1941, Ruth married Henry Donald Herod, they moved to Lansing and then to Holt, where they started a refrigeration business and raised 3 children, Randolph and Stephen Herod and niece, Regina Gibson. In 1975, Ruth was remarried to Robert O. Moeller, who preceded her in death, and moved to Lansing. Ruth leaves 4 grandsons, Donald Wade, Douglas Donald, Steven Michael, and her youngest grandson, Morgan Earl Herod; and 2 daughters-in-law, Linda and Gladys Herod. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Two Rivers Cemetery, near Lake Isabella, MI. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Welk Family Foundation.

Went to be present with the Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at the age of 91. She was born on September 29, 1911 in DuPlain Township, MI the daughter of Harry and Lydia (Fish). Margaret was a charter member of DeWitt Christian Church and had worked in the Lansing area at several retailers, including J.W. Knapp’s, Wurzburg’s and had worked at the Smart Stork Shop until she was 82 years of age, stopping only because the shop closed. Survivors include: 3 daughters, Beverly (Ron) Meis of Bear Lake, Geraldine (James) Burrell of Lansing and Diane (Thomas) Gorsuch of DeWitt; 1 son, Mark (Carol) Blakslee of Traverse City; 6 grandchildren, Karen Meis, Kurt (Kierstin) Meis, Heather Gorsuch, Amy (Michael) Blik, Anna Gorsuch and Carrie Gorsuch; 4 great grandchildren, Kenton, Kirsten, Elizabeth and Karoline; 1 sister, Josephine Reese of St. Johns; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on October 22, 1996 and her brother, Lester Cleveland. Funeral services will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Friday, October 25, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark St. Louis of DeWitt Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Grand Ledge. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Margaret, to DeWitt Christian Church or the Hazel Findlay Country Manor, Special Care Program.
