White, William D.

Age 80, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2003. He was born on January 30, 1923 to Harold and Zina (Belcher) White in Clare, MI. William was the owner of W.D. White Trucking Co. for over 25 years. He was a member of both the Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodges. William had a great passion for old Chevy trucks and belonged to the Vintage Chevrolet Club of American and Capital City Car Club. William was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret in May of 2002; sister, Wanda Eberhardt; brothers, Francis "Chum" and Robert White. He is survived by his sons, Steven and Lindsey White; grandson, Jason White; granddaughters, Daniel and Andrea White; brother, Murrell "Dean" (Sandy) White; sister, Judy (Paul) Bailor and special friend, Mildred "Millie" Rice. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, May 19, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday and from 2-4 and 6-8 Sunday at the funeral home. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one's choice in memory of William.
Wheeldon, Roy A
Of Lansing / Jackson Area
Age 63 went to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 11, 2001. Roy was born on December 29, 1937 in Bentonville, AR. He will be missed by his wife: Darla of 25 years, whom he loved with all his heart. Their beloved children are: Roy (Andy) Wheeldon Jr., Melisa Pautz, Gregory Wheeldon, Melanie LeSeney, Michelle Bontrager, Joe Wheeldon, Jennifer Lounsbery, David (Sonny) Foster, Sonja Crabtree, Marty Foster along with their spouses and grandchildren. Roy is also survived by one sister; Bonnie Childs and several nieces and nephews. Roy was a member of UAW local 1753, he retired from the General Motors Parts Plant in 1991 after 28 years of loyal service. There was a memorial service on Thursday, August 16, 2001 at 1 pm in Mount Hope International Outreach, 202 S. Creyts Rd, Lansing, MI. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Kidney Cancer Foundation. Rest now, eternity is your forever. We will love you always. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Knight, Irene V.

Age 57, passed away on December 22, 2001. She was born on May 23, 1944 in Traverse City, and has been a Lansing resident most of her life. Irene was employed at the Ingham County Medical Care Facility for over 30 years, retiring in May, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Celia Barch, and sister, Maryjane Fuller. Surviving are: 2 daughters, Pamela (Don) Ottgen and Francye (Greg) Loepke, all of Lansing; 3 grandchildren, Corey Ottgen, Shane Loepke and Ayla Ottgen; sister, Francis (Art) Egler of Suttons Bay, MI; 2 brothers, George Barch of Arizona and Louis (Linda) Barch of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no funeral service. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
Ennis, Elizabeth (Betty) M.

Age 91, passed away on January 11, 2005 in Seminole, FL. She was born on May 13, 1913 in Syracuse, NY. She moved to East Lansing in 1939. In 1947, Betty began a 22-year career as a cashier at the College Drug Store. She then worked for 16 years at the Kellogg Center on the MSU campus. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, the University Club, and the Blue Line Hockey Club and volunteered as an election worker. Betty is survived by her daughter, Joy (Virgil) Sturgis of Largo, FL; daughter-in-law, Carole Ennis of Jeffersonville, Indiana; 3 granddaughters, Lisa Miller of Largo, FL, Kristin (Bill) Beltzer of Haslett and Stacey (Jim) Murray of Williamston; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Isabella Evans of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Ennis in 1945, and her son, Leslie Ennis in 1989. She loved everything about Michigan State University, and was an avid fan of hockey, football and basketball. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pinellas Association for Retarded Children (PARC/Art Studio – 3100 75th St., St. Petersburg, FL 33710) or the Greater Lansing Amateur Hockey Association (GLAHA – P.O. Box 1238, East Lansing, MI 48826) in memory of Betty Ennis. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Arrangements are being made by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Johnston, Mary L.

A gentle, loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mary Lorraine Johnston went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2003. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 29, 1912, her family moved to Detroit in 1924. Upon graduating from high school, Mary attended Wayne State University. She married Clyde C. Johnston and for 34 years they made their home in Royal Oak. Mary was active in the ladies circle of the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Mary moved to East Lansing in 1985 to be near her family. It was her thoughtful and encouraging manner that touched people the most. Mary was a wonderful homemaker, who enjoyed baking, painting and golfing. Mary was preceded in death by: her husband, Clyde C. Johnston; sister, Ann Hovinen, and brothers, Matt, George and Joe Dragich; and son-in-law, Dennis G. Doolen. Mary is survived by her daughter, Claudia Doolen; granddaughter, Amy (Michael) Bristor, grandson, David (Penny) Doolen, granddaughter, Mary (Christopher) Williams; great grandchildren, Amanda and Kathryn Bristor, Christian Doolen and Alexandria and Jackson Williams. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of Burcham Hills for their special care of our dear loved one. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Donald G. Denyes of South Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Peckham, Earl L.

Age 90, passed away unexpectly on May 28, 2002. Born May 11, 1912 to Oscar and Marie Peckham in Grand Rapids. Earl married Alice M. Regan in 1952 and they lived in Lansing. Earl served, for 26 years, in the U.S. Army and retired as a Master Sergeant. He also worked for the State of Michigan, Public Health Department as a Health and Safety Officer for 13 years, retiring in 1981. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Alice in 1969; and daughter, Patricia Dunham in 1990. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Peckham and her husband, Thomas S. Krashen. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, May 31, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Wesley B. Emerson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, in Earl's memory.

Age 98, passed away on October 20, 2002. She was born on May 28, 1904, the oldest of 13 children of George and Lottie (Tuthill) Spicer. Cecil was a longtime member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cote in 1961; daughter, Jeanne Kelly and daughter-in-law, Jeanice Darcy. She is survived by daughter, Patti (Jerry) Mills; son, Robert Darcy, both of Lansing; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marge (Tubb) Stiff of Owosso and Letha Bondy of Williamsberg, MI; 2 brothers, Bud Spicer of California and Stewart Spicer of Florida. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 815 Sparrow Avenue, Lansing, with Fr. Bill Lugger as celebrant. The rite of committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be given to St. Casimir Catholic Church or the Martin Luther Holt Home, in memory of Cecil.
Johnson, Robert T.

Age 73, passed away on November 1, 2002. He was born on April 2, 1929 in Lansing, the son of Grace (Loder) and Robert Henry Johnson, and was a Lansing resident until he retried in 1989. He was a member of the Lathers/Carpenters Union, and worked many years for W.H. Richenbach. His life long passions were hunting, fishing and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William Henry Johnson and step-son, Don Wayne Humes. He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Velma; 4 daughters, Yvonne (Cecil) Niswonger of Stanton, Evelyn (Joseph) Hannasch, Jr. of Holt, Cynthia Johnson of Eaton Rapids, and Mary Ellen (Thomas) Seeley of Lansing; son, Robert Thomas Johnson, II of East Lansing; step-son, Richard J. (Doris) Humes, Jr. of Lansing; 3 step-daughters, Velma (Timothy) Strange of Dansville, Elsie Humes of Charlotte, and Dena Humes of Mason; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ivan (Donnis) Kerr of Mason; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Frantz of Petoskey and Barb (Stan) Klickner of Perry. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, and a former member of Lansing Lodge #288, L.O.O. Moose. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Rev. Lawrence Nichols officiating. Interment will be in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be provided by the Morley S. Oats Post #701, V.F.W. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
