Denison, Lylia Grace

Age 87, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2002. She was born on January 7, 1915 in Bancroft, MI, the daughter of Seth A. and Florence (Penix) Parker. She was a member of Holt Church of the Nazarene and worked as a Nurses Aide at Ingham Regional Medical Center and as a missionary for 8 years in Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Denison. She is survived by: sisters, Dorothy Cooley, and Doris Bjortvedt; brother, Harold Parker; step-daughter, Carol (Jim) Shull; grandson, Scott Hakes; granddaughter, Barbara (Thomas) Ongstad; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Doris (Burton) Ingarsoll. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, February 11, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with the Rev. Mike A. Prince officiating. Interment followed in Dimondale Cemetery, Dimondale. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Sunday, February 10, 2002 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holt Church of the Nazarene, 4851 W. Holt Road, Holt, MI, in loving memory of Lylia Denison.
Young, Floyd I.
Grand Ledge, MI
Age 81, passed away on July 26, 2002. He was born on September 29, 1920 in Durand, the son of Clyde M. and Marian E. (Donovan) Young. He graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry, an M.S. in Calculius, and PhD in Chemical Engineering, all from M.S.U., and retired from Motor Wheel after 44 years of service. He was a member and Past President of the American Electro Platers & Finishers Society; a member of the American Chemical Society; the Society for Applied Spectroscopy; the Chemical Coaters Association International; the American Society for Metals; Capital Lodge of S.O. #66, F.&A.M.; Elk B.P.O. #196; S.C.O.R.E. (Service Corps of Retired Executives); the Grand Ledge Historical Society; the Grand Ledge Chamber of Commerce; the Organ Historical Society; and the American Guild of Organists. Mr. Young was active in a 4 year project of Lansing Theater Organ, Inc. to rebuild the pipe organ for the Grand Ledge Opera House. He was preceded in death by his wife Leone R. Young in 1994. He is survived by: children, James (Elaine) Young of Charlotte, William (Patricia) Young of Lansing, Sue Ann (Lynn) Webster of Potterville and David (Anne) Young of Lansing; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and brother, Robert G. Young of Utica, NY. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., on Sunday at the funeral home.
Anastos, Paul
East Lansing, MI
Age 87, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2002 as the result of an automobile accident. Paul was born in Koufopoulo, Greece on January 15, 1915 the son of Haralambos and Dorothea (Kaplanis) Anastos. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the order of AHEPA. Mr. Anastos retired in 1976 from the G.M. Fisher Body Plant after 23 years of employment. During his retirement he found great joy and took great pride in his garden. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Anna Anastos; one brother, Bill Anastos of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Katina and Polyxeni, both in Greece; nephew, Bob (Georgia) Kaplan of Lansing along with other nephews and nieces, Lena, Harry, Artis, Mary, Nick, Dorothy, and Litsa; Great nieces and nephews, Elias, Jimmy, Dina, and Penny and several other great nieces and nephews in Greece. Two brothers, Tasos and Lakis and one sister, Dina, preceded Mr. Anastos in death. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1701 E. Saginaw, Lansing, with Fthr. Mark Sietsema - Priest, officiating. Burial will follow at Deepdale Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Monday, May 13, from 7-9 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Trisagion Service. King, Howard H.
Mason (Formerly of Dansville)
Age 86 passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2003. He was born on July 24, 1916 in Mason, MI to Benjamin and Eunice (Blanchard) King. Mr. King served in the Army during WW II where he was a P.O.W. for 3 ½ years. Throughout the years, he has been very actively involved in the First Church of the Nazarene in Mason. Mr. King is survived by his wife, June King; children, Kenneth Howard and Ruth King of Holt, Keith Ronald and Turid King of California, Kristine Lorraine (King) and Robert Woodland of Mason and Sharon June (King) McCurry of Algonac; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and all of those who loved him. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2003 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Mason, 415 E. Maple, Mason, MI with Pastor Gerhard Weigelt officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice, 700 W. Ash, Mason, MI in memory of Mr. King.
DeMarco, Robert A.
Okemos, MI
Age 78, passed away Nov. 19, 2001. He was born in Tecumseh, MI Nov. 6, 1923 and has lived in the Lansing area since 1924. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; was a Veteran of W. W. II, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe; was a member of V.F.W. Post #3727; and a former member of the Country Club of Lansing. He was the last of the four DeMarco brothers who owned and operated DeMarco Brothers store and restaurant on S. Pennsylvania. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Stella; 5 Children, Rosemary (John) Clark, John (Connie) DeMarco, Michael (Vanessa) DeMarco, Terry (Renee) DeMarco, Patrice (James) Solomon; 7 Grandchildren, Kelly, Kristen, Danielle, Nicole, Alexis, Robert Anthony, and Connor; Aunts, Julia Fata and Jane Fabiano. The family wishes to thank Sparrow Hospital and the Critical Care Pulmonary Staff. The Funeral Mass was celebrated by The Rev. Fr. David J. Speicher at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; 955 Alton Dr., East Lansing, with the Rite of Committal at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Kimmich, Gertrude M.
Lansing, MI
Age 101. Gertrude passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Sparrow Hospital. Gertrude lived to be 101 years of age and led a full life. She was born on February 26, 1902 to Daniel and Rose (Boditcher) Lippert in Neustadt, Ontario. Commuting by railroad to attend school in Walkerton proved to be too much so she moved to Owosso, Michigan to live with her sister Hulda (Mrs. John J. McDonald). Gertrude finished high school in Owosso and went on to get a teaching degree at Michigan Normal College in Ypsilanti, now Eastern Michigan University. Upon graduating she joined the Lansing School system where she taught until her marriage to Robert Kimmich in the summer of 1931. Robert owned and operated the Kimmich Drug Store in downtown Lansing and Gertrude continued as a substitute teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; three sisters; and one brother. Surviving are her nephew, J. Gordon McDonald of Ann Arbor; three other nephews, Donald Wagner of Dearborn, MI, Glen Wagner of Port Clinton, OH and Dan Wagner of Baden, PA; and three nieces, Elaine Lewis of Ludington, MI, Betty Mae Bartlett of Sarasota, FL and Jill Lucas of Tucson, AZ. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2003 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, with the Rev. Anthony A. Patrick of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, 510 Ottawa Street, Lansing, MI 48933 in care of the Reverend Patrick.

Age 74, passed away on August 26, 2003. She was born on December 17, 1928 in Lansing, the daughter of Lyle C. and Marion (Henry) Gass. Alberta was a member of the Lansing Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Robert A. Coddington, in 1981; and son, Randy D. Coddington, in 1999. Surviving are: daughter, Cathy (Fred) Staelens of Onondaga; 4 grandchildren, Rob and Cheri Marten and Cory and Sarae Coddington; step-grandchildren, Erick Staelens and Karl Herrick; 2 great grandchildren, Robert Straus and Colin Coddington; brother, Gerald (Ardela) Gass; nephew, Jeff Gass; 2 nieces, Jole (Ray) Hilton and Connie Fish; and great niece and nephews, Courtney and Kyle Hilton and Steven and Joseph Fish. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor Lyle D. Davis officiating. Interment will following Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Killila, Dorothy V. "Gramz"
Dimondale, MI
Age 89, passed away Aug. 23, 2001. She was born to Ethel and Sylvester Downey in Trenary, MI on April 14, 1912. She was a 43 year member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church where she had been a Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member. She graduated from Central High School; was a member of the Elk's Vivian Society; a past president of YMCA Mothers; past president of the J. W. Sexton High School Band Boosters; delivered Meals on Wheels; and was a member of the Windsor Estate Retirees' Club. She worked for many years in the medical field having been associated with several Lansing doctors. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William in 1988; brothers, Ted and Frank Downey, and sister, Fern Wellington. She loved her family very much and gave them the gift of singing, teaching them songs that fill their hearts. Her family and friends will love and miss her forever. Surviving are: Son and daughter-in-law, Martin, Sr. and Norma (Newman) Killila; Grandchildren, Cindy (Patrick) Dolan, Terri (Paul) Lentz, Marty, Jr. (Anne) Killila and Karen (Tim) Sharky; Great grandchildren who made her eyes sparkle, Jennifer and Sarah Dolan, Heidi and Heather Lentz, and Timmy and Anna Sharky. Religious services were conducted by The Rev. James A. Schalkhauser and The Rev. James R. Lichtenberger at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2001 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church; 549 E. Mt. Hope Ave., with interment in Dimondale Cemetery. Pall bearers will be: Patrick Dolan, Paul Lentz, Tim Sharky, Marty Killila, Jr., Ed Waters, Jim Koessel. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and she will lie-in-state at the Church from 1:30 p.m. Monday until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethleham Evangelical Lutheran Church in her memory.
