Dodge, Robert L.
Holt, MI
Robert L. (Bob) Dodge died peacefully on June 17, 2003 after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer. Bob was born on June 23, 1938 in Lansing and was a long-time resident of Holt. Bob will be remembered for his work with the Delhi Township Police Department, where he served as Police Captain and helped countless youth during his 16 years as a Juvenile Officer/Detective. Most recently, Bob was a trainer and driver for Automotive Component Carriers in Lansing. For 33 years, Bob sang with the Capitalaires Quartet, a pastime that brought him joy and many Christian friends throughout the country. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Jan; daughter, Lorraine (Fred) Udell; son, Darrin (Judy) Dodge; daughter, Yvonne Gibbs; grandchildren, Jason and David Woodworth and Hannah Dodge; brother, Bill (Bev) Dodge; step-mother, Alberta Craun; step-brother, John (Evelyn) McClung; step-sister, Shirlyn (Dick) Russell; and several nieces and nephews. The Dodge family would like to thank the caring staff of the Breslin Cancer Center, Dr. Peter Gulick, and the 5th Floor Oncology Wing of Ingham Regional Medical Center for their love, support and encouragement over the past four years. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 N. Aurelius Road, Holt, with a luncheon following the service. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Robert L. Dodge be made to Breslin Cancer Center or the Ingham Regional Medical Center 5 North. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
Lang, Melissa Mary
Flint (formerly of Mason)
Age 46, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 in Flint. Born January 3, 1958 in Lansing to Coleman L. and Beulah (Cogswell) Bandt. Melissa enjoyed painting and cherished her garden and all of the beautiful flowers that she grew. She is survived by: her daughter, Heather (Patrick) Neph; son, Cory Philleo; grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Anna and Caleb; Mother, Beulah Bandt; brother, Micheal Bandt; sisters, Suzanne (Steve) Harrington and Patricia Mohler and many nephews. Melissa was preceded in death by: her father and her brother, David Bandt. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, in memory of Melissa.
Doebler, Carol Marian Littlefield

Carol quietly and peacefully slipped away from the bonds of earth and into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on March 30, 2005 at the age of 88. She was a resident of the Dimondale Nursing Care Center. Carol was born on May 31, 1916 in Highland Park, MI, to Charles W. and Catherine (Ripley) Littlefield. She grew up in the Detroit area with her three older sisters, May, Helen, and Virginia, all now deceased. Carol and Raymond Doebler were married in 1938 in Angola, IN. They had a daughter, Margaret Carol in 1940. In 1942, Margaret moved to Lansing to live with Carol’s sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Donald Powers. Carol and Raymond were divorced in 1943 and the Powers’ adopted Margaret in 1947, changing her name to Marjorie Carol Powers. Carol worked in an aircraft parts factory during WWII. Later, she was in charge of room service at the Book Cadillac Hotel in downtown Detroit, (later called the Sheraton Cadillac) where she met many famous personalities of the 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s. She also served as a Civil Defense Air Raid Warden, and was active in the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union. Carol enjoyed sewing, camping, crocheting, knitting, the Detroit Tigers, watching figure skating on TV, growing indoor plants, small pets, eating, and baking. Surviving are: daughter/niece, Marjorie Powers Schneider; grandchildren, Trace Graham, Todd (Kerrie Rayl) Graham, and Tim (Deanna) Arksey; great grandchildren, Lindsey Gonzalez, and Tyler and Torrey Arksey; and several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Dimondale Center (who called her “Mom”) for their years of dedication to Carol’s well being and happiness. As Carol wished, no services will be held, and her ashes will be scattered in her beloved Northern Michigan. Schaible, Diana O.

Age 59, was called home to her Lord on September 29, 2001, after an 18 year struggle with kidney disease. She was born on February 9, 1942, in Williamston, the daughter of O.D. and Mildred (Gaffner) Eaton and was a 1960 graduate of Williamston High School. She was a devoted wife and mother, and a M.S.U. Hockey fan. Mrs. Schaible was a major participant and supporter of the family business, Al's Union 76 Service and Al's Auto and R.V. Sales. Surviving are: her husband of 37 years, Allan R. Schaible; son, Brad Schaible of Ann Arbor; sisters, Louella Eaton, Carolyn (Gary) Pelton, Willa (Bill) Manning and Fredrica Eaton. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Richard S. Schaible in 1985. A funeral service was conducted by the Rev. David Brooks, of South Baptist Church, at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today, and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Sparrow Dialysis Unit. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan in memory of Diana Schaible.
Doerr, Amelia

Born on August 5, 1908 in Russia, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Feichtner) Stoecker, passed away on March 9, 2005 at the age of 96. Amelia enjoyed doing volunteer work at Mount Hope Church, but her greatest joy in life was her family. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Gottlieb; and daughters, Jeanette Brotherton and Sharon Demond. Surviving are: daughters, Maxine Perry, Betty Simons, Marian Highfill, Annette (Frank) Malcangi, and DeElda (Ray) Whitehead; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Ted (Alice) Stoecker; and sisters, Lydia Scott, Elizabeth Butchat, and Clara Neis. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2005 at Mount Hope Church, Garden Prayer Chapel, 202 S. Creyts Road, Lansing, with the Rev. Clyde Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Hope Church in memory of Amelia Doerr.

Age 55, passed away on January 5, 2003. She was born on March 30, 1947 in Lansing, the daughter of Lester and Ruby (Hyboone) Wise. She was employed by the Federal Government, Department of Agriculture for 26 ½ years before retiring on June 28, 2001. Suzanne was also a member and past president of Toastmaster’s-Transportation. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Wise, and her grandparents. She is survived by her husband of over 12 years, Duane Landon; step-children, Sandy (Micheal) Kidd and Brandon Landon; step-grandchildren, William and Nathan Kidd; parents, Ruby and Ralph Sorrell, brother, Jerry (Bonnie) Wise; sisters, Sherry Sorrell and Laura Sorrell, many nieces and nephews, along with other loving family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in West Carmel Cemetery, Charlotte, MI. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grovenburg United Methodist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Quass, Clarice May

Age 100, passed away August 19, 2001. Mrs. Quass was born April 28, 1901 in Plymouth, England. She came to the United States at the age of 25 and lived in Chicago until 1966, when she married Grant Quass and moved to the Lansing area. She was an active member of the Holt United Methodist Church. Clarice was preceded in death by her husband: Grant in 1968, her sister: Edith Schoen in 1992 and her parents. Surviving are her daughters: Margaret J. Maher of Winston Salem, N.C, Maxine (George) Cebula of Las Vegas, NV., her 4 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, and her nephew: Art (Nancy) Doth of Lansing, and niece Dorothy Whittaker of Wisconsin. There was a funeral service on Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at 10 am at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with the Pastor Lynn Grimes officiating. The family received friends on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Holt United Methodist Church.

Age 78, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2001. He was born in Wheatland Township, Michigan, on January 2, 1923, and had been a resident of Lansing for most of his life. He was a member of Local #388, Plumbers and Pipe Fitters; and worked as a pipe fitter for many years. Surviving are: 2 sons, Gale Aaron of Lansing and Martin Kevin of Williamston; 2 sisters, Mrs. M. W. Comden of Manteca, CA and Mrs. John Carpenter of Vermontville, MI. A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 9, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev.
