Age 61, passed away on May 7, 2002. He was born on July 6, 1940 in Lansing. He was preceded in death by: son, Gerald D. Sawyer. He is survived by: his wife of 32 years, Darlene; son, Craig (Debbie) Bowerman; 5 daughters, Doreen Geer of Lansing, Aillene (David) Plont of Laingsburg, Loreen (Craig) Wright of Lansing, Virginia (Brent Morse) Wall of Vermontville, and Felicia Sawyer of Lansing; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; parents, Dale and Virginia Sawyer of Holt; brother, Dale (Carol) Sawyer of Lansing; 3 sisters, Sharon (Roland) Lutz of Holt, Jeanne Pettinger of Holt and Melissa Jackson of California. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2002 at Charity Baptist Church, 2899 Holt Road, Mason. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Wakefield, Anna Mary “Bonnie”
Lansing, MI
Age 79, passed away on March 21, 2003. She was born on August 14, 1923 in Odon, IN, the daughter of Francis Logan and Mabel (Riggins) Dant. Anna was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church for over 50 years and also a member of the St. Casimir Catholic Church Guild. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 10 years and a life member of DAV Auxiliary. Surviving are: her husband of 57 years, Grant; daughter, Brenda (James) Barnes of Grand Blanc; son, Fr. Alan Wakefield of Holt; grandsons, Trevor (Melissa) Barnes of Holt and Sacha Barnes (fiancée, Amy Alexander) of Holly; and brothers, Clyde, Ralph and Frank Dant. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2003 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 815 Sparrow Ave., Lansing, with the rite of Committal in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, where a wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Ele’s Place for Grieving Children or St. James Catholic Church Eucharistic Chapel Fund.
Bieth, Theresa L.
Lansing, formerly of Caro
Passed away on Friday, March 5, 2004 at the age of 102. She was born on September 8, 1901 in Huron County to John and Mary Pechette. She married George Bieth in 1928. They moved to Caro to own and operate a John Deere Dealership and George became mayor of Caro. George passed away in 1956 and in 1961, Theresa returned to teaching school. She loved the role of teaching children. She retired at the age of 70. Theresa then spent many years traveling the world with her dear friend, the late Clara Toohey of Caro. Theresa loved spending time with her family. She loved to cook, entertain and play cards. She was also an avid reader. Her cheerful personality, sense of humor and great wisdom will be remembered by all who knew her. Theresa is survived by her six grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Nancy Kaiser and Mary Ready and her son, John Bieth. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar Street, Lansing. Burial prayers will be said at 3:00 p.m. at the Caro Cemetery, Caro, MI. Memorials may be made to your local literacy program or by donating a book to your local school in memory of Theresa’s love of reading.
Pallick, John M.
Lansing, MI
Age 84, passed away on August 26, 2001. He was born on August 29, 1916 in Lansing, and has been a lifelong Lansing resident. Mr. Pallick was a faithful member, and usher at the Church of the Resurrection and St. Mary Cathedral, and was currently a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. He was the owner of the George G. MaDan Co., retiring in 1986, and had previously owned the Lamb Candy Company. Mr. Pallick was the Secretary of Farm Excess of Loss Association for over 40 years, and was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as the Lansing Supervisor and was in charge of all of Ingham County's Scout Leader training. He was also affiliated with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Lansing Boat Club, Lansing Amateur Hockey Association, Meals on Wheels and the Kiwanis Club of Lansing, which he attended since 1948, and was a former secretary. Mr. Pallick also dressed as Santa Claus for the children at the local hospitals. Surviving are his loving wife, Christena; daughter, Pam (Gary) Fernsler of Grand Blanc; son, MaDan (Sandy) Pallick of Lutz, FL; 7 grandchildren, John (Gracie), Carrie (Ken), Crystal, Leanne, Dana, Danny, and Jackie; several great grandchildren; brother, Frank (Lee) Pallick of Lansing; sister, Rose Weston of Okemos and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty in 1981; brothers, Tom and Matt, and infant sister, Mary. The Funeral Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John P. Klein, at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy, with the Rite of Committal at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Home Care and Hospice in memory of John M. Pallick.
Bishop, Ada Melvina "Vina"

Age 80, claimed the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ on June 11, 2004. She was born on April 20, 1924 in Dimondale where she resided until 1969. Mrs. Bishop was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, and remained active by making flower arrangements. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gareth Bishop in 1985. Surviving are: son, Steven Bishop of Lansing; daughter, Rhonda (Jack) Church of Holt; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, JoAnn (Jim) Burgess of Lansing and Virginia (R.E.) Parsons of Clare. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Monday, June 14, 2004, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 2418 N. Aurelius Rd., Holt, with Pastor Dean R. Poellet officiating. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, and at the church, from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice of Mason, or to St. Matthew Lutheran School in memory of Vina Bishop.

Age 46, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2002. He was born on May 22, 1956 in Lansing, the son of Roy C. and Joyce E. (Dexter) Fineis. He was previously employed with Continental Cable, however at the time of his death was employed by Millennium Digital Media. Keith is survived by his wife Barbara; children, Kylie and Justin; step-children, Leslee Baum and Rod (Staci) Baum; step-grandchildren, Taylir and Mackenzie Baum; grandmother, Violet Dexter; siblings, Mark (Sandy) Fineis, Theresa (Frank) Koenigsknecht and Steven (Angie) Fineis; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John A. Byers at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2002 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar Street, Lansing. Rite of Christian Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery in Mason. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Schassberger, Catherine L. “Kay”

Age 85, passed away on September 22, 2002. She was born on April 21, 1917 in Columbus, OH, and has lived in Lansing since 1950. Mrs. Schassberger was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a church greeter. She had volunteered at the Lansing General Hospital gift shop for 32 years, and was a very active volunteer in many other areas. Surviving are: her husband, Leo “Bus”; 2 sons, Gary (Cathy) Schassberger of Holt and Bill Schassberger of Cambria, CA; 6 grandchildren, John, Adam (Christina), Michael, Bill, Matthew and Nathan; 5 great grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Ashley, Amanda and William. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2002, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 549 E. Mt. Hope Ave., with The Rev. James A. Schalkhauser and The Rev. James R. Lichtenberger officiating. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Schassberger will lie-in-state at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Age 90, passed away Jan. 10, 2003. She was born Nov. 17, 1912 in Toledo, Ohio and has been a resident of Delhi Township for 60 years. She was a member of the Holt United Methodist Church; a 50 year member of Holt Chapter #510 O.E.S.; a member of Michigan Republican Women; the Ingham County Extension Club; and a Volunteer at Ingham Regional Medical Center for over 20 years. She was Deputy Clerk for Delhi Township for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Ammon, Sr. in 1981 and Son-in-law, Sam Corey in 1995. Surviving are: Son, Harry R. Ammon, Jr. (Carol) of Holt; 2 Daughters, Carole Corey-Spraker (Bob) of Holt; Margie Wheeler (Flynn) of Leslie; 9 Grandchildren, Scott (Brenda) Ammon, Russell (Lori) Ammon, Ryan (Kori) Ammon, Teri Corey, Cheryl (Jeff) Chudnow, Mark (Robyn) Corey, Michael (Jackie) Corey, Lynette (Terry) Brail, Steven (Annette) Wheeler; 21 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Marian (James) Lattin; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003 at the Holt United Methodist Church; 2321 N. Aurelius Rd., Holt with the Rev. Lynn Grimes officiating. Mason Chapter #150 O.E.S. will provide their service. Interment will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery .The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Age 87 passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2004. She was born on July 24, 1917, in Lansing the daughter of John and Blanche (Bennett) Losey and granddaughter of former Lansing Mayor, Mr. John Bennett. Mrs. Filppula had work for Auto Owners Insurance and several Lansing area doctors before she moved to the Romeo and Oscoda, MI area where her husband was superintendent of schools. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Taisto; son, Paul Parker, Jr. and her parents. Surviving are: her son, John B. (Joan) Smith of Shelby Township, MI; daughters, Mary Lou Filppula of Southern Ohio, Marcia Leininger of South Carolina; grandchildren, Paul (Sue) Parker III, Robert (Karen) Parker both of Gladstone, MI, Jonathon Parker of Vale, CO, Lisa (Bill) Vedder of Washington Township, MI, Michael Smith of Sterling Heights, MI, Jonathon Leininger of South Carolina; great grandchildren, Steven, Rachel, Rian, Paige, Brett, Alexis, Paul IV; 1 nephew and 3 nieces. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Pam Mathieu of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church officiating.
