Skoczylas, John George Jr.

Lansing, MI

Age 58, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2001. He was born on July 3, 1943 in Lansing, the son of John and Cathryn (Pospech) Skoczylas. John love to build and race cars and won the championship at Spartan Speedway in 1977 and 1981. He was preceded in death by: father, John George Skoczylas, Sr., in 1972; wife, Teddi Jo, in 1984; father-in-law, Edward J. Huels and mother-in-law, May Huels Goudey. He is survived by: mother, Cathryn; daughter, Jodi L. Enriquez; son, Michael John; brother and best friend, Steven; grandchildren, Jose Alejandro Enriquez, Dominic Miguel Enriquez, Maria May Skoczylas, and Michael John Skoczylas, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Lonni Huels, Michelle Huels and Debbie Day; nieces, Sarah and Katie Skoczylas; nephew, Austin Azua; great nephew, Gaven Smith; special aunt, Elizabeth Rusnak; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m, Thursday, December 20, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Fr. John Byers officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Albrecht, Arnold G.

Holt, MI

Age 78, passed away on September 17, 2002. He was born on February 17, 1924, in Lansing, and has lived in the Lansing area most of his life. Mr. Albrecht had been employed at Oldsmobile for 50 years, retiring in 1994, and was a member of UAW, Local #652. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge of Cummins, MI, FOP, Wing Tips Experimental Group in Mason, Bonehead Hunting Club, a 30 year member of AOPA and a charter member of the Holt Lions Club. Surviving are: his wife of 53 years, Pat, 2 sons, Thomas (Lori) of Holt and Stephen (Tammy) of Marshall; 3 daughters, Sue Ann Albrecht of Hastings, Rebecca (Rodney) Thayer of Lansing and Terri Albrecht of Hastings; 3 grandchildren, Adam, Kyle and Zachary; 2 brothers, Frank (Carol) and George, all of Lansing; 2 sisters, Ruth Mary (Jerry) Snyder, and Dorothy (Bob) Swift, all of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Michael James and the staff at the CHF Clinic for the extra years that they added to Arnold’s life. They also wish to thank Dr. Veronica McDonald for her professionalism, compassion and care to both Arnold and his family. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2002, at the Estes-Leadley Holt Delhi Chapel, with The Rev. Francis Dunn-Simons, of Faith Tabernacle of Lansing officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to The CHF Clinic in memory of Arnold G. Albrecht.

Rogers, Charles Murphy

Lansing, MI

Age 42, passed away on December 31, 2001. He was born on December 7, 1959, the son of Charles Garfield and Joe Willie (Miller) Rogers. He was preceded in death by: brothers, Robert and Ira; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Murphy Rogers. He is survived by: mother, Joe Willie Rogers; children, Jordon, Baby Chuck, Latosha and Donyelle Riley; grandchildren, Imaria, Derrick, Artinious, Chennara, and Yasmany; sisters, Bernice Wither and Janice Kay Rogers; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and special niece, Kyla Rogers; friends and one close friend. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, January 4, 2002 at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 1020 W. Hillsdale, Lansing. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Basso, Bonnie L. (Lindemann)

Lansing, MI

Born on April 26, 1942 in Owosso, MI, beloved Mother and Grandmother Bonnie Basso died March 27, 2005 after a brave battle with cancer. The daughter of the late James and Ella Basso, Bonnie graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1960. She retired in March 2003 from the Holt Kroger Store where she had worked for 30 years. Bonnie was a deeply spiritual person, an avid gardener and tremendous animal lover. She is survived by her brother, Edward James (Carol) Basso, her children’s father, Daniel Lindemann; her four children, Scott (Janet) Lindemann, Dr. Dana (Dr. Steve) Shuey, Lori (Tom) Tsaparas, and Amy Lindemann; five grandchildren, Rachael Lindemann, Katie and Jack Shuey, Mykala Tucker and Marshall Tsaparas, and one great-granddaughter, Kylie Sorrow. A Memorial Service in Bonnie’s honor will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.

Ward, Doris E.

Lansing, MI

A strong, loving, and dedicated wife, mother, and proud grandmother, she has gone to her beloved Beulah Land to be with her Lord and family. Born in Cowpens, SC on August 23, 1926, to parents Mason and Carrie Millwood. She made a loving home in Lansing, MI for most of her life. Many happy years were also spent in Jamestown, SC, where she was an active member of Hood's Chapel Methodist Church of Macedonia. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by 17 siblings, and is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Winston W. Ward; her 2 children, Susan M. and John W. Ward; daughter-in-law, Jody A. Ward; and grandchildren, Lyndsay A. and John M. Ward, all of greater Lansing. They were her first priority. Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2002. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2002, led by Pastor Ed Gillies of Mt. Hope International Outreach, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48915, in memory of Doris E. Ward.

Aitken, Michael T. “Mike”

Lansing, MI

Born July 20, 1941 in Lansing, MI died Sunday, February 13, 2005 at the age of 63. He was the son of H.P. “Pat” and “Jean” Aitken. Mike was a graduate of Eaton Rapids H.S. Class of 1959 and a long time resident of Eaton Rapids. He attended Michigan State University and worked at the Lansing Post Office. Mike was the Past President of the “River City Rats” and published the “River City Vietnam Newsletter” He was known for his imaginative and humorous writing style along with keeping in touch with the men in combat. Survivors include: two brothers, James of Remus, MI and Bob of Channing, MI; one sister, Pat Banfield of St. Petersburg, FL along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Mike will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Lake, Iola J.

Lansing, MI

Age 82, passed away on June 17, 2003. She was born on December 1, 1920, in Howard City, MI, and had lived in Lansing most of her life, coming here from Coral City, MI. Ms. Lake was employed at the State of Michigan, Vehicles Division, for 41 years, retiring in 1986, and was affiliated with Lansing Teen Challenge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Lake and Ethany (Frank) Bassett; and by her sister, Frances Wicks. Surviving are several cousins, including Don Gage and family of Coral, MI; and friends and caretakers, Vena Challender and Janice Westgate. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2003, at Coral Cemetery in Coral, MI. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lansing Teen Challenge in memory of Iola J. Lake.

Ahlgrim, Karolyn I.

Holt, MI

Age 52, went to be with her Lord on Monday, September 24, 2001. She was born on August 27, 1949 in Cadillac, MI, the daughter of John and Shirley (Chambers) Zakrajsek. Karolyn was a devoted wife and mother who loved gardening, flowers, and animals-especially horses. She was a 1967 Cadillac High School graduate, who worked for Ameritech, retiring in 1999 after 28 years of faithful service. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She married Lynn Ahlgrim on February 6, 1971, he survives. Also surviving are: sons, Eric (Margaret R. Underwood, DVM) Ahlgrim of Dansville, and Kurt Ahlgrim of Holt; brothers, John (Mary) Zakrajsek and Dan (Sharon) Zakrajsek, both of Cadillac; sisters, Juli Zakrajsek of Kentwood, Laurie (Ken) Lehman of Stanton and Denise (Bill) Barnett of Cadillac; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2001 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with Pastor Robert Appold officiating. Interment followed at Burr Oak Cemetery. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m., on Wednesday at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. In memory of Karolyn's courageous battle with cancer, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
