Age 79, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2002. She was born on October 8, 1922 in Grand Ledge, MI, the daughter of Alton and Floretta Leona (Ferris) Hixson. She was a longtime member of the Lioness Club of DeWitt. She was preceded in death by: her husband, David; brother, Virgil Hixson; and sister, Norma Remus. She is survived by: daughters, Darlene (Jerry) Wilson of Lansing and Mary Ann (Brian) Wilcox of Bath; son, Tom (Pam) Schlichter of Leslie; 5 grandchildren, Kara, Andy, Dusty, Amy and Amy Jo; 3 great grandchildren, Ronnie, Ryan and David; sister, Arlene Wethington of Reed City; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, July 5, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m., on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m., until service time on Friday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in memory of Leona E. Schlichter.

Maxine, age 80, passed away on July 18, 2002. She was born on May 24, 1922 in St. Johns, Michigan. She worked and retired from Michigan State Podiatry Association. Surviving are her two daughters, Beki (Dale) Kaplan of West Bloomfield and Debi (Kevin) Radigan of Lansing. She has 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Ashleigh, Heather, Lizzy Mendelsohn of West Bloomfield, Rick (Tera) Radigan of Lansing and Sean Radigan of Minneapolis. She has 2 step grandchildren, Geoffrey and Erin Kaplan of West Bloomfield. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Beam, Ethel Florence

Age 82, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2004. She was born February 14, 1922 in LaGrange, IN. the daughter of Earle F. and Nina F. (VanBuskirk) King. Florence was a long standing member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon an elder and was in the choir. Florence was a member of Voyagers, Christian Women, Presbyterian Women’s Association, and Church circles. She was a Sparrow Hospital volunteer in the Emergency Room for 12 years and a Sparrow Hospital volunteer escort for 42 years, spending the last few years in pre-op. Survivors include: 3 daughters, Diana Breininger of Lansing, Marsha Putnam of Flint, and Paula (Joe) Mockridge of Grand Ledge; 8 grandchildren, Randy (Gigi) Dewey, Curtis Dewey, Sheri (Mike) Aumann, Melissa (Mike) Casteel, Tim (Debra) Putnam, Paul Putnam, Paxton (Toby) Hoggard and Zach Hoggard; 12 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Meeder and Margaret (Ron) Fiandt along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 husbands, Paul Breininger in 1959 and Peyton “Bud” Beam in 1984. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 743 N. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Lansing with the Rev. Kirby Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the Church for one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions, in loving memory of Florence, may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Age 76 passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2003. She was born on June 28, 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky to Bernette and Anna (Abrams) Broughton. Mary was preceded in death by; her husband, Wallace, daughter, Virginia Streeter, son, Rex Casteel and her parents. Surviving are; her son, Tommy Casteel; grandchildren, Mike and Laura Morenzetti, Dennis, Eric and Terry Casteel; greatgrandchildren, Alyssa, Robbie, Jennifer and Brianna and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Age 85, passed away February 6, 2003 in East Lansing, MI. Mrs. Francis was born on November 20, 1917 to John M. and Fody E. Taylor in Hartsville, South Carolina. She is survived by husband Richard H. Francis; children, Richard H. (Camillia) Francis Jr. of Holt, MI, John T. (Sybil) Francis of Lancaster, PA, Lawrence T. (Valerie) Francis of Philadelphia, PA; 6 grandchildren, Richard H. (Beverly) Francis III of Perrinton, MI, Rachel R. Francis, of Holt, MI, Jonathan L. (Jody) Francis of Cisco, Texas, Guy Francis of Lancaster, PA, Sybil Rutherford, of Florence, NJ, Conrad Francis of Somerset, NJ; 5 great grandchildren, Moriah B. Francis, J. Isaac Francis, Caroline E. Francis all of Cisco, Texas, David Rutherford and Lindsey Rutherford of Florence, NJ; brother, Vonnie L. (Mary) Taylor of Philadelphia, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jake and sister Barbara. "Betty" was married to "Dick" for 66 years. She was a wonderful mother in every sense of the word. She was active with the Boy Scouts of America in Philadelphia, PA, where she served as a den mother for many years. On moving to Holt she operated a Day Care out of her home and was "Mom" to dozens of children in the Lansing/Holt area. There will be a graveside service at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Holt on Saturday February 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing, 6035 Executive Dr., Lansing, MI 48911 or the Burcham Hills elevator fund, 2700 Burcham Dr., East Lansing, MI 48823.
Rogers, Bernard Edwin

Age 74, passed away on August 1, 2003. He was born on October 28, 1928 in Merrill, Michigan, the son of Herbert and Luana (Sheneman) Rogers. Bernard was employed at Motor Wheel and retired after 38 years of service and was an avid cross country motor cycle rider. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, in 1984 and brother, Ivan Rogers. Surviving are: son, Paul (Victoria Wells) Rogers of Lansing; daughters, Linda (Alfred) Rhynard of DeWitt and Jacqueline (Gary Miller) Thayer of Lansing; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brother, Veryl (Jan) Rogers of Lansing; and sister, Muriel (Bruce) Spinney of Lansing. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor Mike Prince officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, August 3rd. Memorial contributions, in loving memory of Bernard, may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Bolley, Jean M.

Age 62, our loving mother and grandmother went to be with our Lord, after a brave struggle with cancer. Mrs. Bolley retired from Aldinger Direct Mailing and Advertising. She was an active member of the W.O.T.M. Lansing Lodge #288. She played an active part in her children and grandchildren's lives. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, golf and many other activities. She will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by: husband, Lynn M. Bolley; infant son, Brian; father, Felix Suszek; and her brother, Butch Suszek. She is survived by: mother, Cecila Suszek; one brother, Garre (Lynda) Suszek; three sisters, Marion Eagling, Bonnie (John) Plowman, and Lori Werda, all of Alpena, MI; three sons, Mark (Missi) Bolley of Potterville, Terry (Lori) Bolley of Grand Ledge, and Randy (Lisa) Bolley of Mason; two daughters, Lynn (Eddie) Martin of Perrinton, and Kelly (James) Boyd of Lansing; special friend, Carl Eyemann of Lansing; 10 grandchildren and one on the way. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 27, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment followed in Markham Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m., on Saturday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Sunday. The family requests that all donations be directed to Hospice of Lansing, or to the Breslin Cancer Center.
Dorian, Merrylee (Ludicke)
Lansing, MI
Born February 22, 1910 in Lansing, MI, Merrylee went home to be with her beloved Edwin and Otto on September 17, 2001, at the age of 91. A Lansing resident for most of her life, Merrylee also loved her home in Gaylord, MI. She was a proud state employee for the Dept. of Administration, Purchasing Division until retirement in 1968. In 1932 Merrylee was married to the father of her two daughters, Otto George Ludicke who passed away in 1959. She was remarried in 1967 to Mr. Edwin Dorian who passed away in 1992. Surviving are her daughters, Deanna Lee (Lowery) Lewis of Gaylord and Georgia Jean (Thomas) Kesseler of Lansing; 9 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Merrylee loved antiques and was very proud of her needlepoint creations and crochet projects which won many ribbons at county fairs. She had a special place in her heart for her pets, especially her recent poodle, "Buttons". Funeral services were conducted by The Rev. Paul W. Frederick at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. If you would like to make a donation, Merrylee's favorite charity was the Capital Area Humane Society.
