Schroeder, Benjamin D.
Dimondale formerly of Holt
Passed away August 1, 2003 at the age of 61. He was born in Lansing on September 16, 1941 the son of Jarld and Ila (Perron) Schroeder. Mr. Schroeder served in the Navy from 1960 to 1964 aboard the USS Randolf, was a member of U.A.W. Local # 1754 and retired from General Motors Parts in 1993. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, John and sister Mary (Midge) Lennon. Surviving is his wife Barbara, son, Russell (Rusty) of FL, step-sons, Pat (Ann) McDowell of Lansing, Dave (Kristy) McDowell of Potterville, twelve grandchildren, sisters and brothers, Jarldine (Art) McMillan, Kay (Tom) Adams all of Holt, Tim (Fay) Schroeder of Grand Ledge, Dan (Jamie) Schroeder of Albion, brother-in-law George Lennon of Lansing and several nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held Monday, August 4, 2003 at the Estes- Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice in memory of Benjamin Schroeder.
DeMaagd, D. Annabelle
Lansing
Died August 21, 2003 after a long illness. She was born on January 12, to Carl and Rose Vincent in Flint, MI. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald, daughter, Anne Shewell of Denver, CO; grandsons, Michael Stornant and Curtis Powers; step-daughters, Carol DeMaagd of Lansing and Nancy DeMaagd of Los Angeles, CA; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Nancy J. Powers in 2000; sisters, Marie Denham and Evelyn Preston; and brother, Carl Vincent. Annabelle was a lifelong, active volunteer at both St. Lawrence and Sparrow Hospitals, and past president of the Angelus League of St. Lawrence Hospital. Annabelle retired as Special Events Director of the J.W. Knapp Company in 1977 after many years of service. There will be no viewing or funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Foundation in memory of Annabelle DeMaagd. Small, Doris Burckley

Age 77, passed away on August 12, 2003. Doris was born on October 3, 1925 in Detroit, the daughter of Russell and Dorothy (Burckley) Lampman. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also was an avid reader, loved to play the piano and was a fan of M.S.U. Hockey. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helen. Surviving are: her husband of 47 years, Keith; son, Monty (Donna) Small of Bath; daughter, Nancy (Jeffrey) Fancher of Lansing; grandsons, Jason (Jennifer) Fancher and Nicholas Fancher, both of Lansing; sisters, June, Marilyn, Joyce; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Dr. William Beachy of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will followin Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
Adams, Rachel M.

Age 84. Rachel Mary Adams was born on May 11, 1917 in Sturgis, MI and died on September 15, 2001, at her home in Lansing. She was the daughter of Earl and Esta (Silvers) Coyle. She moved to Lansing at an early age, and graduated from Eastern High School in 1935. She graduated from Acme Business College in 1938. She worked at Adams Tool and Engineering from 1955 to 1963, when following her marriage to Fred W. Adams, she retired to become a household engineer. She was an active volunteer and member of the Guild of Lansing General Hospital, where she was active in planning several holiday balls. She was a charter member of Le Danseurs Dance Club. She was chair of the reunion committee for the Eastern High School Class of 1935. Rachel was an avid golfer, and played nearly every day the weather permitted. Following her retirement, she became a skilled maker of arts and crafts for friends and family. She was preceded in death by: her parents; and her brother, Dallas Coyle. She is survived by: her beloved husband, Fred; son, Terry Adams (Barbara Lamar) of Ann Arbor; daughters, Marlene (Denny) Bongard of Holt, Anne (Tom) Grant of New York, NY, and Vicki (Jim) Bowers of Holt; sisters-in-law, Marcella Adams of Holt, Leila Adams of Dimondale, Maxine Adams of Dimondale, and Betty (Randolph) of Centerville, VA; and many nieces and nephews. She was the proud grandmother of Tony (Tani) Doll of Flowermound, TX, Meagan (Mike) Piker of Alpine, WY, Amy Doll of Rochester Hills, MI, Hayden Grant of New York, NY, Michael and Ryan Bowers of Holt, MI; and Great Grandmother of Richard Brice and Anthony James Doll of Flowermound, TX. Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 20, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 N. Cedar St., Holt, MI. The family received friends at the chapel on Wednesday, September 19th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment of ashes at Deepdale Memorial Gardens followed the memorial service. Persons wishing to make contributions in the name of Rachel M. Adams, in lieu of flowers, are encouraged to make a donation to Christ United Methodist Church of Lansing or the American Cancer Society.

Age 92, passed away Mar. 16, 2003 in Florida as the result of an auto accident. She was born in Charlotte, MI Sept. 10, 1910 and had lived in East Lansing for many years, moving to Florida in 1975. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Ladies of the Oriental Shrine, Globe Trotters, and the Jesterettes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1994; sons, Paul, Jr. and Karl William; and granddaughter, Amy Sue Adams. She is survived by her loving daughter, Ann (Bob) Carolus of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Monday, April 7, 2003 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with The Rev. Dr. Harry H. Johnson of The People’s Church of East Lansing officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to your local Christian radio station.
Robertson, William R.

Age 84, passed away on April 24, 2003. He was born on December 30, 1918 in Ontario, Canada, and retired from General Motors. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2003 at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Semrau, Douglas L.

Born February 1, 1934, the son of Edward L. and Elsie A. Semrau, died May 26, 2003 after a long illness. He was a 1953 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School and retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1994. Mr. Semrau was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army; a member of American Legion Post #225, the Morley S. Oates Post #701, V.F.W and DeWitt Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Phyllis; his father, Edward; and sister-in-law, Dolly. Douglas is survived by: mother, Elsie of Lansing; brothers, Larry (Alice) and Denny Semrau, both of Lansing; sisters, Barbara (Raymond) Bachman of Williamston and Marcia (C. Ray) Freeman of Chatham, MA; 12 nieces and nephews; 12 great nieces and nephews; 2 great great nieces; and many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. James R. Lichtenberger, of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart and Lung Association.

Age 73, passed away on February 25, 2005. He was born on June 5, 1931 in Huntington, TN, and has lived in Lansing for most of his life. He was a painter at LCC for 31 years, retiring in 1998. “Pop” loved everyone and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in 1999. Surviving are: 3 sons, Robert (Kimberly) Birmingham of Holt, Gary (Dawn) Birmingham of Lansing and Steven Ward of Lansing; 3 daughters, Debra Forrester of Freemont, IN, Patty (Kenny) Goff of Eaton Rapids and Reva Brockwell of Lansing; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 brothers and 2 sisters. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor Carolyn M. Hastings officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in memory of Robert D. Birmingham.
