Ferguson, Thomas Charles

Age 59, passed away on July 21, 2002. He retired from Total Gasoline Corporation after more than 25 years and attended Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Ferguson helped several charity organizations with Bingo fundraisers and was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Alfa Ferguson; and brother James in 1975. He is survived by: brothers, Daniel G., Richard (Joan), William, all of Lansing and John (Kelli) of Eaton Rapids; sisters, Betty Ferguson, Coralee Baker of Lansing and Kate (Thomas) Mason of Troy; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Errol Jameson officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Thomas Charles Ferguson.
Rivera, Raymond P.

Age 76, passed away Dec. 1, 2002. He was born in Cline, TX Aug. 15, 1926 and has lived in Lansing for most of his life. He was a Veteran of W. W. II, serving in the U.S. Army; a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church; and the Michigan Sheriff’s Association. He was employed at Fisher Body Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1979. Surviving are: Wife, Elvira M.; 2 Daughters, Carol Ann Miller of Las Vegas and Loretta Jean (Neal) Hallum of Orlando, Fl.; 2 Sons, Christopher Ray Rivera of Kansas City, MO and Thomas Lee (Rebecca) Rivera of Lansing; 6 Grandchildren; Abigail (Dustin) Smith, Thomas Lee, Jr. and Raechel; Vivian Lee (Jessie) Rivas; Nicolette and AaZee Rivera Miller; 3 Great Grandchildren, Ray, Louie and Raquera Rivas; 2 Brothers, Antonio Rivera of Lansing and Ernesto (Mary) Rivera of Portland; Sister, Diana Rivera of Lansing; nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by The Rev. Fr. Pius Poff at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002 at Holy Cross Catholic Church; 1611 W. Oakland Ave. The Rite of Committal will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, or to Beekman Center.
Abel, Ransom Orson

Age 95, passed away May 30, 2003. Mr. Abel was born May 25, 1908 in Lansing, MI; graduated from Lansing Central High School, earning BS and MS degrees from Michigan State College. He was a Registered Civil Engineer; a member of the Lansing Engineers Club; worked for the Hill Diesel Engine Co. for 8 years; and in Road Design for the Michigan Department of Transportation for 31 years. He was active in Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts in his early years. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry for 3 years and was also an usher. He was an active member of Lansing Lodge #33 F.& A.M. and Arbutus Chapter #45 O.E.S. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ann; Daughter, Greta McVay of Lansing; Son, George (Joan) Abel of Seattle; 6 Grandchildren, Garrett (Tina) Abel and Mark (Monica) Abel all of Seattle, Lori (Jeff) Kissick of Seattle, Diana (Ricardo) Alvarado of Ann Arbor, Michelle (John) Tennant of Seattle, Sheri (Arthur) Shank of Mason; 4 Great Grandchildren, Sydney and Halle Abel, Dylan Alvarado and Branden Shank. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; 218 W. Ottawa, with The Rev. Dr. Gordon Weller officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice or the charity of one’s choice
Barrera, Lucy Anne

Age 65, passed away on October 10, 2003. She was born on July 7, 1938 in Lansing, the daughter of Russell and Mary Katherine (Gardner) Bentley. Lucy was a C.A.T.A. Driver, retiring after 20 years of service, she also drove school bus for the Holt Public Schools for 13 years. She enjoyed all types of arts and crafts and had an avid love for horses, especially “Cherokee” and her dog “K.C.”. Lucy was preceded in death by her father, Russell Bentley. Surviving are: mother, Mary Katherine McGregor of Lansing; children, Robert (Helen) Barrera of Lansing, Mark (Debbie) Barrera of Eaton Rapids, Chris (Chris Ann) Barrera of Holt, Rick (Carolyn) Barrera of Grand Ledge, and Kathy (Roger) Donley of Lansing; 8 grandchildren, Rob, Ashley, Joe, Jennifer, Jessica, Mark II, Sean and Chelsea; 3 great grandchildren, Devin, Destiny, and Caleb; brother, Fred (Karmen) Bentley of Mason; sister, Mary Jane Wood of Lansing; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and special friend, Sandy Drew. The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all of the Hospice staff, especially, Ruth Lee. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Margaret Zee Jones, Ingham Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Age 87, passed away on June 26, 2002. She was born on April 10, 1915 in Owosso, the daughter of Edward and Venita (Cornell) Anderson. She was a long-time member of St. David's Episcopal Church and was involved in the Altar Guild and helped the women of the church in many ways. Ella enjoyed sewing, golf and tennis. She was preceded in death by: husband, James J. Basso in 1995; and brothers, David and Kenneth Anderson. She is survived by: son, Edward (Carol) Basso of Grand Ledge; daughter, Bonnie Basso of Lansing; 8 grandchildren, Todd (Debra) Basso of Tequesta, FL, James Basso of Glendale, AZ, Craig (Kim) Basso of Stuart, FL, Christina (Mark) Wartzok of Hobe Sound, FL, Scott (Janet) Lindemann of Lansing, Dr. Dana (Dr. Steve) Shuey of Landenburg, PA, Lori Tucker (Tom Tsaparas) of Lansing, Amy Groll of Lansing; 9 great grandchildren, Rachael Lindemann, Katherine Shuey, Mykala Tucker, Shane Basso, Allyson Basso, Jack Shuey, Craig Basso, Jr., Adam Basso and Carley Wartzok; sister-in-law, Arlene Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2002 at St. David's Episcopal Church, with the Very Rev. Fr. David R. Pike officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Owosso. The family received friends from 4-7 p.m., on Sunday, June 30, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. BeBee, Mary (Roberts)
Lansing, MI
Age 89, passed away on September 6, 2003 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. She was born on October 15, 1913 in New Madison, OH, one of 11 children, of which 2 brothers survive: Russell L. (Mavis) Roberts of Lansing and Paul Roberts of Lennon, CA; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Keith Roberts of New Madison, OH, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1975, and by her parents in the 1940’s. Mrs. BeBee worked for Archie Tarpoff Catering for 66 years (until the age of 85), and also worked for private parties. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2003, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with The Rev. Kathryn C. DeMougin, of Unity of Greater Lansing officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in memory of Mary BeBee.
Dart, Stephen H.
Harbor Springs, MI (formerly of East Lansing)
Age 51, died Thursday, November 4, 2004 in Lansing, MI. He was born January 17, 1953 in Lansing. Steve attended East Lansing schools followed by Harvard University, Oxford University, and then Harvard Law School. Steve was an enthusiastic athlete. While at East Lansing High School, he won the All-State title in high hurdles, enjoyed running track and was on the football team. Steve also played football for Harvard along with joining the Porcillian Club and the Hasty Pudding Club. At the time of his death he was in the practice of law and had recently gotten into the Banking business. He will be missed very much by his family and his friends. Surviving are: wife, Abby Baker-Dart along with their children, Jack, Joe, Will, Lily and Sam; mother, Mrs. John H. Dart; sisters, Mary Carol, Melissa and Vicky; nieces, Maggie, Chloe, Daphne, Mimi, as well as his nephew, John P. Fischer of Mason. A private family service will be held on Tuesday in Harbor Springs, MI. There will be a public memorial service at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Age 81, passed away on October 2, 2002. She was born on June 18, 1921 in Battle Creek, MI, and has lived in Lansing most of her life. Mrs. Ritter had been employed at Oldsmobile retiring after 30 years. Surviving are: her son, Mark E. Ritter of Vestal, NY; sister, Virginia Clark of Portland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2002, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation in memory of Mary L. Ritter.
