Sczesny, Stanley P.

Age 80, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2002. He was born on April 15, 1921 in Lansing, the son of Frank and Anna (Simanovski) Sczesny. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and sister, Helen McDowell. He is survived by: daughter, Karen (Larry) Lumbert of Holt; grandsons, Brandon (Holly) Lumbert of Salt Lake City, UT and Ben Lumbert of East Lansing; sister, Sophie (Charles) Stone of Bloomfield Hills, and Margaret (Fred) Knight of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with the Rev. Wesley Emerson officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing, Inc., 6035 Executive Drive, Suite 103, Lansing, MI 48911.

Belen, Douglas L.

Lansing, MI

Age 56, passed away on September 15, 2002. Born January 21, 1946 in Lansing, MI, a son of Norman and Treva (Moon) Belen. Doug worked as a Line Technician for Ameritech for almost 28 years. He was a devoted grandfather, who loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Surviving are: son, Todd (Melissa) Belen of Lansing; brothers, Norm Belen of Lansing and Dick (Debora) Belen of Lansing; sister, Kimberly (Dennis) Lewis of Perry; uncle, Richard Moon; grandchildren, Dakota and Dalton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Kathleen “Kit” Collins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mason. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Dialysis Unit at Ingham Regional Medical Center.

West, Dawn Marie

Charlotte, MI (formerly of Dansville)

Went home to be with her Lord at the young age of 55. Preceding her in death, were her husband of 31 years, Donald H. West and her brother, Russell LaMacchia. Surviving are her parents, Dan and Lou LaMacchia of Holt, her daughter, Robin (Rob) Atkinson and her two (pride and joy) grandsons Donny and Jimmy Atkinson of Sunfield; two brothers, Gordie (Jill) LaMacchia of Mason and Mike (Shelia) LaMacchia of Opelika, AL. Dawn was a former employee of Beurmann-Marshall in Lansing for 20 years and she was retired from the State of Michigan, DEQ in 2001. She was loved by many and she loved many. She will be greatly missed by all. Dawn loved life, but most of all she loved her grandsons. She had many special family and friends that were by her side through thick and thin. I want to say Thank You to all of you. She will be greatly missed by her two wonderful companions that got her through the days, Taz and Precious, they were her babies after her husband passed away. They had a wonderful gift of keeping her spirits going, they will miss her. My mother wanted to sent a message to everyone, "Live today, not for tomorrow and tell people you LOVE them." Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2002, at the Dansville Baptist Church, 1534 Mason St., Dansville, with Pastor Shane Lewis of Faith Bible Church, Lake Odessa, MI officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to one of the following, Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.

Bischoff, Adeline M. “Addie”

Cedarville, MI (Formerly of Lansing)

Age 91, passed away in Lansing on Jan. 16, 2005. She was born on May 27, 1913 in Jenison, MI, and lived in Lansing for 40 years, moving to Cedarville, MI in 1970. Mrs. Bischoff was a very caring person, always putting others before herself. She enjoyed the outdoors. Her life was an inspiration, even through her 90th birthday she did not slow down, continuing to enjoy hunting and fishing in the Upper Peninsula. She was an active member of the First Union Church of Cedarville; the Michigan United Conservation Club; and was a former member of the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church in Lansing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard in 1979. Surviving are: 2 sons, William (Marilyn) Bischoff of Lansing and James (Doris) Bischoff of Grand Ledge; 4 grandchildren, Scott Bischoff (fiancée, Maria Capra), Brian (Carmen) Bischoff, Denise Briggs and James Bischoff and friend Toni Thomson; 2 great grandchildren, Mark Bischoff and Christian Briggs. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Rev. Rae L. Franke of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Union Church, 159 E. Hodeck, Cedarville, MI 49719 or to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, 1210 W. Saginaw St., Lansing, MI 48915 in memory of Adeline Bischoff.

Ristau, Nelson Frederick
Lansing, MI

Age 86, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2002. He was born on September 30, 1916 in Lansing, the son of John and Helen (Semrau) Ristau. He was a lifelong member Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church; a member of UAW #602; and a member of the Lansing Liederkranz Club. He is survived by: sisters, Harriet Tuttle and Beatrice (Norman) Fossum, both of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and friends at Lutheran Heritage Village. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Paul J. Lindloff and the Rev. Timothy H. Buelow officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing, MI 48906.

Challender, Larry R. “Blue”

Lansing

Born on May 13, 1938 and passed away on November 17, 2003, Larry went to the Golden City to be with his girlfriend of 29 years, Jeri Wise, mother, Lula Raymond, sisters, Judy Thrush and Georgia Leathers. He retired from Friedland Industries in May of 2000 after 27 years of service. Surviving are: two loving step-daughters, Lisa Warren and Rebecca Miles; son, Robert Franks; several grandchildren; 3 sisters, Sally Anderson (LaVern), Jody Woodman (Terrance), both of Lansing, and Edith Woodman (Bob) of Clare; 2 brothers, Bert Challender (Anna Marie), and Kirk Challender (Lorie), both of Harrison; and brother-in-law, Donald Thrush. Larry was also a proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens.

Conklin, Gladys M.

Grand Haven, MI (Formerly of Holt)

Age 96, passed away on April 8, 2003. She was born on November 1, 1906 in St. Johns, MI, the daughter of Charles F. and Emma M. (Foerch) Knaup. Gladys was a member of Okemos Baptist Church for over 60 years; worked at J.C. Penny and J.W. Knapps for a combined 30 years. She was preceded in death by: son, Richard Conklin; brother, Glenn Knaup; and sister, Clara Haskill. Surviving are: son, Douglas (Kathie) Conklin of San Diego, CA; daughter, Patricia (James) Coven of Grand Haven, MI; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Meryl Woodard of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Hurd Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Okemos, 4684 Marsh Road, Okemos, MI 48864, in memory of Gladys Conklin.

Scott, Elizabeth R.

Mason, MI

Elizabeth R. Scott, age 80, of Mason, formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died on Friday, March 28, 2003 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Scott and a son, Dave Russell Scott. Elizabeth is survived by daughter, Rebecca (James) Breslin of Mason; son, Ron, (Janice) Scott of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Dave (Shannon) Scott, Julie Scott, Sean Scott, Lisa (Bobby) Rue and Daniel (Nichole) Ward and 6 great grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Jacob Rivera of Texas and sister, Dorcas Rosario of Florida. Graveside services will be held at North Aurelius Cemetery in Aurelius Township on Monday, March 31, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Chad Gullion of Leslie Bible Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 N. Cedar St., Holt. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, 1210 W. Saginaw St., Lansing, MI 48915, in memory of Mrs. Scott.

Enustun, Nejad

Okemos, MI.

Age 88, passed away at his home on Friday, March 28, 2003. Nejad received his Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois and worked as a Civil Engineer for the state of Michigan’s Highway Department for 24 years, retiring in 1984. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Munire; 2 sons, Turgud (Janet) Enustun and Orhan (Lana) Enustun; 1 daughter, Nurhan Enustun; 8 grandchildren, Steve (Holly) Enustun, Scott (Charlena) Enustun, Sara (Michael) Whallon, Stacey Enustun, Jeff (Ingrid) Shiffer, Tamara (Paul) Stiles, Nejad Enustun and Tarik Enustun; 8 great grandchildren along with 1 brother and 3 sisters in his homeland of Turkey. Prayer services will be led by Omar Soubani at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2003 at the Islamic Center of East Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in loving memory of Nejad, may be made to the Islamic Center of East Lansing, 920 S. Harrison Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
