Farhat, Norman C.

Lansing, MI

Born on October 31, 1937, the son of Joseph and Ida (Nouhan) Farhat, passed away on October 31, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph A. Farhat, Jr. and Leo A. Farhat, Sr.; sisters, Kathryn (Kramer), Mariann Farhat, Gloria (Mansour), and Cecilia May Farhat; and niece, Ann Farhat. Norman is survived by: his wife, Marina (DiGregorio) Farhat; 7 children, Terese Farhat, Gina Farhat, Norman (Tara) Farhat, Stefani (Corey) Bertrand, Robert Farhat, Andrew Farhat, and Susan Farhat; brothers, Ralph (Dee) Farhat, Maurice Farhat, and John (Sallie) Farhat; sister-in-law, Virginia Farhat; and brothers-in-law, George Mansour and Paul Kramer. Norman was blessed with dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, whom he held very close to his heart. Norman attended Saint Mary High School in Lansing. He graduated from Aquinas College and thereafter served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves. He worked with the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) as an Investigator and attended the University of Detroit School of Law. After graduation from law school, Norman became the first Research Clerk in Ingham County, hired by Circuit Court Judge Marvin Salmon. He also served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Ingham County, Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Department of Licensing Regulation, and Chief Assistant City Attorney for Lansing. Thereafter, he engaged in private practice, specializing in liquor license law. During that time, he also assisted the MLCC in formulating their Rules and Regulations. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour Street, Lansing, with Fr. Mark Inglot and Bishop Gregory Mansour officiating. The rite of interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be: Joseph A. Farhat, III, David Farhat, Leo A. Farhat, Jr., Vincent Farhat, George Mansour, Peter Kramer, Anthony Farhat, Gordon Farhat, and Timothy Farhat. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ingham Visiting Nurse and Hospice, 825 E. Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912.

Vernick, Rene B.
Okemos, MI
Rene Vernick beloved wife of the late George, mother and grandmother, died of cancer on Thursday, August 8, 2002. Survivors include her daughters, Laurie (Terry) Phillips and Vicki (David) Parker; son, Greg; and three wonderful grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband, George in 1999; brother, Philip; and sister, Harriett. She volunteered for many years at Ingham Regional Medical Center and was a member of Congregation Shaarey Zedek. She had many devoted family members and friends that made her life special. The funeral will be officiated by Dr. Morton Hoffman, Rabbi Emeritus at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2002 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, 1924 Coolidge Road, East Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Shaarey Zedek or the American Cancer Society-Breast Cancer Research. May her memory be a blessing.

Willsey, Clair C.

Lansing, MI

Age 93, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2003. He was born in Butterfield Twp., MI, the son of the late John L. and Pearl (Bell) Willsey. Clair was a retired Iron worker and was a member of the Local Union # 25. He was a member of Valley Farms Baptist Church, was Past-Master of both the Walter French Lodge #557 F. & A.M. And the Capital Lodge of S.O. #66 F. & A.M., was a life-member of Capital Chapter #9 R.A.M. and the Lansing Council #29 R..S. & M.. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed archery, sailing and camping. Survivors include his wife of almost 69 years, Isabella, 4 sons; John C. (Jane) Willsey of Gladwin, David A. (Marsha) Willsey of Madison, AL., Douglas (Jo) Willsey of DeWitt and Melvin L. (Linda) Willsey of St. Louis, MO., 8 grandchildren; Amy Young, Scott Berry, Susan Berry, Jennifer Willsey, Jim Willsey, Mary (Mark) Locher, Sarah Willsey and Isabella Willsey, 5 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews and other extended family members. Clair was preceded in death by his brother Bernerd Willsey and his sister Theresa Meigs. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Ken Ridge at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Clair, to the Masonic Home in Alma, MI.

Powers, Marie A. (Baryames)

Lansing, MI

Age 84, passed away Dec. 12, 2002. She was born in Chicago, IL Dec. 23, 1917 and has lived in Lansing for most of her life. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church; the Ladies Philoptochos Society; the Daughters of Penelope; and a Past President of the Pilot Club International. She was the Comptroller for Baryames Dry Cleaners, retiring in 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. “Skip” Powers in 1984; her parents Art and Helen Baryames; sisters, Margaret, Christine, Angeline and Jennie. Surviving are: 2 Brothers, Charles (Rosalie) Baryames of East Lansing, Chris (Betty) Baryames of Lansing; 1 Sister, Delia Zarafonetis of Grand Rapids; many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church; 1701 E. Saginaw, with The Rev. Dr. Mark Sietsema, Priest officiating. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday where the Trisagion will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Library Fund.

Kruger, William F. (Bill)

Lansing, MI

Age 77, passed away on February 10, 2002. Bill was born on November 15, 1924 in Duluth, MN to Ferdinand and Lydia (Kelm) Kruger. He was a 1942 graduate of Williamston High School where he made lifelong friendships. He then served in the U.S. Army Corp. during WWII, assigned to a B-17 bomber flying missions over Germany. Upon his return, he attended Michigan State University where he graduated in 1951 with a degree in dairy science. Bill was associated with Heatherwood Farms Dairy for 42 years, retiring as Vice President of Operations in 1988. His continuing interest in dairy science and education prompted his active involvement in the Michigan Dairy Memorial Scholarship Fund; the Mac Trout Scholarship Fund; and and Lansing Farmer's Club. Bill enjoyed fishing and organized annual family fishing trips to Canada. He also loved to travel. His most cherished activity was spending time with family and friends, and he was always ready and willing to lend a hand when needed. Bill will be remembered with love and respect for his impact in our lives by his wife of 54 years, Margaret; sons, Ken (Fern) of Holt, Dave (Cindy) of Holt, Doug (Sylvia) of Bloomington, IL, and Brian of Bear, DE; daughters, Mary Houde of Armada, Kaye (Bob) Zahorchak of Madison, AL, Sue Kruger of Mt. Holly, NJ, Rita (Mark) Hotchkin of Holt; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Herman (Else) Kruger of Lansing, Fred (Merib) Kruger of Charlevoix; sisters, Olga Morgan of Holland and Margaret Barnhart of Lake Odessa; daughters-in-law, Terry Jenkins and Sondra Kruger; special Army Air Corp. friends, Chuck Luciano and Stacy Tavis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry in 1980 and his brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Ruth Kruger. The funeral mass was celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Jose Mundadan at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, February 14, 2002 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where Bill was a member since 1950; at 3518 S. Cedar St., Lansing. The Rite of Committal was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 6-8 p.m., on Tuesday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to GM (Mac) Trout Scholarship Fund; 204 GM Trout Food Science & Human Nutrition Bldg; Michigan State University; East Lansing, MI 48824, in Bill's memory.

Norris, Barbara L.

Lansing, MI

Barbara L. Norris was born on October 18, 1930. She was from Detroit, Michigan, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Bass Lake, Michigan and Lansing, Michigan. She made many places her home. Barbara attended Alma High School and was Vice President of her class, her husband-to-be, Kenneth R. Norris was President. She was Miss Lansing in 1954 and a runner-up, to Miss Michigan. Barbara served many charities in her years, including the PTA, and Garden Club. She worked for many businesses in Lansing, was executive secretary at Motor Wheel, Family and Child Services and other individuals. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Norman A. and Reeva E. Borton; and her husband, Kenneth R. Norris in 1993. Surviving are: son, Scott V. Norris; and many dear friends and family members. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor Wesley B. Emerson officiating. Inurnment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ingham Visiting Nurse & Hospice or Sparrow Hospice & Home Care Network.

Long, Keith F., II

Mansfield, TX

(Formerly of Lansing, MI)

Age 44, passed away Friday, June 6, 2003 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born on April 23, 1959 in Lansing, MI to Keith F. and Mary Lou (Thayer) Long. Keith worked for General Motors for 25 years, both in Lansing, MI and Arlington, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Long. Survivors include his father, Keith F. Long and step-mother, Nancy Long of Lansing; brother, Brian (Durinda) Long and Tyler, all of Lansing; step-brothers, Richard Hixson, James V. (Morgan) Hixson; step-sister, Christine Hixson; grandmother, Helen Fuhr; aunt, Marion Lynde, all of Lansing; nephew, Leroy Lynde of Perry; and special friends, Annette and family of Texas and Arley Krider and family of Marion, MI. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. There will be no visitation.

Haeger, Delbert O.

Lansing, MI

At age 90, passed away at his home on Friday, December 27, 2002. He was born on March 22, 1912 in Saginaw, MI. Delbert worked for Oldsmobile as a general foreman of the Tool and Die, retiring after 42 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church for 69 years and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Masons. Although his birth and death dates read 1912-2002, it is the dash between these years that reflect a life well lived and a man much loved. To his family and friends, he was a hard working man, of hones integrity, who cared deeply for his family even when words did not come easily. He believed in doing a job now with a life lived in the moment and never postponed. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dagmar H. Haeger; son, Jack (Jean) Haeger; daughters, Marilyn (Marvin) Cole and Kay Wood; brother, Frank (Virginia) Haeger; 11 grandchildren, Steven (Julie) Cole, Brian Cole, Diane (Ed) Eddington, Karyn (Jeff) Ostrander, Kelley (Aaron) Ostrander, Jeff Haeger, Jennifer Haeger, Julie Haeger, Ronald (Stephanie) Wood, Gregory Wood and Kathy (Charles) Karpinski; 14 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Karl (Florence) Mikko of Escanaba. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2002 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 549 E. Mt. Hope, with the Rev, James R. Litchenberger officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the Lutheran Social Services.
