Passed away, at home, on July 18, 2003 at the age of 67. He was a lifetime resident of the Lansing area, retired from Oldsmobile as a union representative for Local 652, a member of F.O.E. 3734 Holt-Mason and a member of the Lansing Chapter of the Royal Order of Moose. His passions were his family, friends, his music, PBR and his guitar. He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey and brother Arnold. He is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey (Shelly) and Michael, two daughters, Lynda and JoEllen (Steve), 12 grandchildren; Joli (Bill), Christy (Sam) Jessica, Erin, Jason, Tesha, Jacob, Zachary, Brandon, Andrew, Paige, Mikie, 9 great grandchildren, sister Nancy, brother Paul. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with the Rev. Stephen F. Ezop officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, with an Eagles service at 7:30 p.m.. Boyer, Lucile June
Holt, MI
Age 85, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 13, 2003. She was born on June 13, 1918 in Lansing, MI. the daughter of Burt and Harriet (Shrontz) Prince. Lucile was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lansing. Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Elmer G. Boyer of Holt; 3 sons, Dennis (Ginny) Boyer of Cincinnati, OH., Gary (Margee) Boyer of Canoga Park, CA., and Terry (Brenda) Boyer of Holt; 2 grandchildren, Jill Boyer and Renee Boyer, both in Arizona, along with 1 sister, Elaine Sine of Battle Creek, 2 nephews, Ronald Sine of Battle Creek and Jerry Sine of Orlando, FL. and 1 cousin, Pauline Stadnyk of Okemos. Over the years Lucile had worked for many different employers including; Abrams Aerial Survey, the State of Michigan’s Highway Dept., during the war she worked for Union Oil in Los Angeles, CA., and Nash Kelvenator. However, first and foremost she was a wonderful homemaker who loved taking care of her husband and children. She also enjoyed traveling, shopping, dressing fine, and dining out. Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Dave Leisman at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 15, from 5-8 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Lucile, to the Hospice of Lansing Residence.
Welch, Bertice
Lansing, MI
Age 88, passed away on June 27, 2003. She was born on May 21, 1915 in Lansing, and has lived in Lansing area most of her life. Mrs. Welch was a member of Wayside Chapel Ministries. She had worked as an assistant broker with Loomis Reality for 16 years. She also worked with her husband at Welch’s TV sales and service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruel, in 1996. Surviving are: sister, Betty Ellsworth of East Lansing; 4 children, LaRue Welch, Robert Welch, Bertice Ellis and Gary Welch, all of Lansing; 7 grandchildren, Thomas Ellis, Michael Ellis, Christine Haggerty, James Ellis, Muriel Bos, Patrick Welch and Anna Welch; 5 step-grandchildren, Eddie, John, Mary, Judy and Vickie; 7 great grandchildren; cousin, Pauline Carr of East Lansing. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2003, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Rev. John A. Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
Shnider, Harold A.

Born in Detroit, MI June 7, 1923, passed away Sept. 27, 2001 at the age of 78. He was educated in Detroit public schools-Roosevelt, Durfee, Central. He served in the U.S. Army in W. W. II, receiving four battle stars, Silver Star, Purple Heart, and the 3rd. Cavalry Recon Squad (MECH). He graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1948 and practiced optometry in Lansing from 1949-1982. He was a Past Chancellor of MU Sigma PI, Tomb and Key (Honorary); was General Chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association; made two trips for the Catholic Medical Board with Optometric Services in the mountains of Guatemala; was a Charter President and First Lt. Governor of the Midway Optimist Club; a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry; a 40 year member of the Michigan Optometric Assoc. and American Optometric Assoc. having been a Past Pres. of the Central District Society. He was a three time winner of the Emil Arnold Award for articles published in The Michigan Optometrist. He was a Past Commander for the Harvey Dater Post of Jewish War Veterans; Past Pres. of the Congregation Shaarey Zedek Men's Club, Jacob Shiff Lodge of B'nai Brith and Congregation Shaarey Zedek. He was an Associate Professor for Optometry Inter American School of Optometry in San Juan, Puerto Rico and established the Dr. Harold A. Shnider Scholarship Award at the school; was a board member of the Jewish Welfare Federation in Lansing and Puerto Rico; was a Past Pres. of the Temple Beth Shalom in Puerto Rico; was a Life Member in the Optimist International and Disabled American Veterans; former Chairman of the local Selective Service Board receiving a Meritorious Award; and was a member of the Royal Society of Health National Eye Research Foundation, New York Academy of Science. He has had articles published in Portfolio Contact Lens Assoc., Optometric Review, Die Suid Afrikaanse Optemetric Journal, The American Optometric Assoc., Contacto, and Michigan Optometrist. He formerly served on the boards of the Central Bank and Trust and the Ralph Young Foundation and had fitted contact lenses on MSU athletes since Biggie Munn was coach in the 1950's. He was preceded in death by his first wife of nearly 43 years and mother of Bruce and Marshall, Raynor in 1988. Surviving are: Wife, Diane and her children, Bonnie and Roger Schaffer and Benson Green all of Clearwater; and Harold's children, Bruce, Patricia and their daughter Ruth of Minneapolis, MN and Marshall and Nancy of New York City. Funeral services were conducted by Rabbi Morton Hoffman at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Congregation Shaarey Zedek; 1924 Coolidge Rd; East Lansing, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Age 87, passed away June 14, 2003 She was born in Riley Township, MI on Nov. 7, 1915 and has lived in Lansing since 1918. She was employed with N. East Street Mini-Mart (Rainbow Foods) for 27 years, retiring in 1993. She had a great love of children, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde S. Boyer in 1976. Surviving are: 3 Daughters, Carole (Arthur) James, Barbara (Brian) Buchner, and Shirley (Leon) Schartzer, all of Lansing; 5 Grandchildren, Lauri (William) Carpenter of Lansing, Mark (Penny) James of Williamston, Kreg (Dorothy) Gordon of Okemos, Kurt (Kristi) Gordon and Shannon (David) Goode all of Lansing; 8 Great Grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, William, Lindsey, Ryleigh, Andrew, Patrick, and Blane; 2 Sisters, Bettie Kincaid of Florida and Harriet Berner of Lansing; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003. Private graveside services will be held at the Gunnisonville Cemetery. Boyes, Loren Paul
Loudon, TN; formerly of Lansing
Age 88, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2003, at Fort Sanders Park West Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. Loren was born in Hastings, Michigan on January 2, 1915, the son of Ada and David Boyes. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1933 and attended Michigan State University. He was a gifted athlete, lettering in football, track and baseball while in high school, and was selected as an all-conference quarterback during his senior year. He married his high school sweetheart, Florence Westerlind, in 1936 and they were married for 59 years until her passing in 1995. Loren was a World War II veteran. He served in the Pacific theater and Korea and participated in the battle of Okinawa where he was a Tech Sergeant (TEC 4) in the 713 Tank Battalion (flame thrower). Loren returned to Lansing following the war and worked in retail sales in the lumber business for many years. In 1964, he joined the City of Lansing as a Property Assessor for Commercial and Residential Property, a position he held until his retirement in 1975. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. He was also an active sports enthusiast and enjoyed softball, golf and bowling. He was a member of the Builder’s and Contractor’s Bowling League in Lansing for over 50 years. Loren was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Marie Westerlind. He is survived by his son, Terry Boyes and wife Margaret of Loudon, TN and daughter, Sue Dahlstrom and husband Howard of Williamston, MI. Grandchildren: Kerry Rouse, Troy Rouse and wife Betty of Lansing, MI, Scott Boyes of Asheville, NC, and Heather Anderson and husband Chad of Phoenix, AZ. Great-grand children: Kevin Rouse, Ronald Rouse, James Rouse and Kevin Kaltrider, all of Lansing. Also, Dane and Brielle Anderson of Phoenix, AZ. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 31, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, where the Morley S. Oates Post #701 V.F.W. will provide military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Age 35, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Age 98, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2002. She was born on October 18, 1903 in Rhea Spring, TN, the daughter of Thomas R. and Sarah E. (Shelton) Wade and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lansing. She was preceded in death by: 5 brothers; and 1 sister. She is survived by: her daughter, Margaret L. (Keith) Peterson of Arlington Heights, IL; grandchildren, Douglas (Ella) Peterson, Terri (Joe) Porto and Jeffrey (Roxanne) Peterson; great grandchildren, Tina and Traci Peterson and Michael and Emily Porto; fond nephew, J.B. Wade; and many other nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 9, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Leon Hebrink officiating. Interment followed in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Friday, February 8, 2002 at the funeral home.
