Burger, Lawrence Jr. "Wally"
Lansing, MI
Age 82, loving husband, father and grandfather went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 23, 2001 after being diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia in August. He was born October 25, 1919 in Waynesville, Illinois to Lawrence and Hazel (Ruble) Burger who preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Esto Burger; son Steve (Carol) Burger of Champaign, IL, daughters Nancy (Brian) Pickford of Lansing, Susan Burger of Lansing and granddaughters Shelby and Jennifer Pickford of Lansing. Wally was employed by C & J Commercial Driveaway for 46 years, retiring in 1986. He was a true baseball fan and had a genuine love for the game which he passed on to his children. A funeral service was conducted by Pastor Lewis Wood at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, IL at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. The family received friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Sparrow Hospice, c/o Sparrow Foundation, or to South Baptist Church. Although his family and friends will miss him, Wally is now in a place where illness has no power, time has no end and infinite love surrounds him.
Sudberry, Delano F.
Charlotte, MI
On April 9, 2003, after a valiant battle with terminal cancer, Del crossed over to be with his family in heaven. He was born Nov. 30, 1932 in Greenfield, TN. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the American Legion. He attended Judson Memorial Baptist Church, Lansing for over 20 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charlotte. He worked for Lansing’s Public Service Dept. for many years. An avid lover of animals, he enjoyed going to zoos around the USA. A sports fan, especially basketball and football, but his favorite activity was always a steak dinner or cookout with family and friends. Some will remember him as a talented painter and designer who studied with Sarkisian in Detroit. He was preceded in death by parents Milas and Ruby Sudberry; and sister, Frances Stevens. Surviving are devoted wife, Martha A. (Rochester) Sudberry; and sisters, Virginia Nugent of Atlanta, GA, Mary Sue McCallister, and Betty J. Vincent of Lansing; brothers, James Robert (Ellen) of Hudson, FL, Bob J. (Mary Jo) of Baytown, TX, and Jack J. (Marjorie) of Lansing; and a host of nieces and nephews will mourn his passing. Also beloved friends, Pete and Ruth Wood, and Gus and Jane Devries, and beloved family dog, Stormy Lee. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor William Barber of Grace Bible Church officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Hospice or Humane Society of one’s choice, or to the American Cancer Society.
Day, Alice “Ruth”
Holt, MI
Age 68, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2003. She was born on July 21, 1934 in Columbia, S.C. Ruth was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver, who is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert W. Day; son, Steven T. and Joanna Day; grandsons, Michael and Eric; sister, Becky Cooper. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church of Holt, 2021 N. Aurelius Rd. with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Brooks officiating. A private interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Howell. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel on Wednesday.
Burgett, Grace A.

Born December 29, 1918 in Ladoga, Indiana, passed away on September 7, 2004, at the age of 85. She was a graduate of Indiana University and Case-Western Reserve University and retired as a Librarian. Grace served in numerous community activities. She was past president of the YWCA Board of Directors; past president of Zonta Club of Lansing; past president of Chapter BZ of PEO. She was also active in Plymouth Congregational Church, serving as Chairman of the Library Committee; past president of Mayflower Circle; and past president of Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn A Burgett, whom she married on August 25, 1946; and brother, Robert Ashby. Surviving are: sons, Roger (Vicki) Burgett of Ann Arbor and David (Brigitte) Burgett of Bethesda, MD.; 6 grandchildren; sister, Marianna (Dr. Glenn) Irwin of Indianapolis, IN; sister-in-law, Susan (Robert) Ashby of Indianapolis, IN; and five nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 E. Grand River, Lansing, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd M. Hall, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Age 83, died April 2, 2003. She was born in Detroit April 11, 1919. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay in 1955; a brother Otto Jorgensen, Jr. and a sister Dorothy Preston. Surviving are: Son, Lynn (Sue) Webster of Grand Ledge; 8 Grandchildren, Scott, Connie, Amy, Becky, Sarah, Zeb, Elizabeth, and Shelby; 7 Great Grandchildren, Dallas, Katlyn, Lexi, Wyatt, Grace, Issac, and Sierra; Brother, Norman (Maxine) Jorgensen of Utica, MI; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. with The Rev. Andrew W. Ford of the Grand Ledge Baptist Church officiating. Interment services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Detroit. Age 68, passed away on December 25, 2003 at his home. He was born on November 4, 1935, in LaPryor, TX, to Jose and Margarita Gomez. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca I. in 1970; 3 grandchildren, Emilio J. Gomez, Eric M. Gomez, Sr, Aaliya E. Gomez; his parents; 3 sisters, Maria Segura, Carol Espinoza, Francisca Ortiz; brother, Jose Luis Gomez. Surviving are: 2 daughters, Vicki (Jesse) Servantes of FL, Tina (Robert) Albarez; 3 sons, Jose, Jr. (Mary Jo), Alex (Rosie), Daniel (Anna) Gomez, all of Lansing; 22 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Domingo Gomez; 5 sisters, Carmen Bonilla, Mary Winnie, Susie Quesada, Gloria Solis, Cleofas Ortega, Eva Melo; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2003, at Church of the Resurrection, 1505 E. Michigan Ave., with The Rev. Fr. William J. Koenigsknecht officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, where the rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

Age 97, passed away on January 9, 2002. He was born on July 11, 1904 in Rochester, IN. Lester lived in Holt most of his life and was very active in his community as a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holt, the Holt Kiwanis Club and spent over 70 years in the Masonic Lodge of Dimondale. He is survived by his children, Bettie J. Hart, of Mason; Billie J. Smith, of Lake; Donald L. (Ruth) Rice of Dade City, FL; and Bonnie (Bob) Whitehead of Holt; 14 grandchildren and 37 great and great great grandchildren. Lester was preceded in death by his wives, Genevieve in 1953 and Sophie in 1990; brother, Jack Rice; and step-daughter, Connie Albert. A funeral service was held at the First Presbyterian Church of Holt, 2021 N. Aurelius Rd., Holt, on Sunday, January 13, 2002 at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Brooks officiating. The family received visitors from 6-8 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, January 11 and 12, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to a charity of one's choice in Lester's memory.

Age 83, passed away on May 13, 2002. He was born on December 13, 1918 in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He attended Holt Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theda; 5 children, Frank (Phyllis) of Pinconning, Marie Floria of Warren, Forrest (Donna) of Porterville, CA, Susan Davis of Holt, and Debbie (Bob) Puckett of Rives Junction; 19 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; 2 brothers; and 4 sisters. He was preceded in death by: a son, Russell E. Burghy, Jr.; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with Pastor Thurman Payton officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., on Thursday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing, Inc. in memory of Russell E. Burghy.
