Hanks, Leo Gerald

Lansing, MI

Age 87, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2002. He was born on March 21, 1915, the son of Arthur and Marion L. (Cobb) Hanks, in Lansing, and has been a lifelong resident. Mr. Hanks was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army for 4 years and retired from G.M. in 1980, after 28 years of service. He was a member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by: wife, Irene in 1991; and brother, Elroy Hanks. He is survived by: son, Gordon (Kathie) Hanks of Eaton Rapids; and 2 grandchildren, Lisa Hanks of Algonac and Matthew Hanks of Eaton Rapids. Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, April 26, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Daniel M. Buske and the Rev. Paul J. Lindloff of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. The family received friends from 4-8 p.m., on Thursday, April 25, 2002 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel First Evangelical Church or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Heald-Colwell, C. Jeanette

Lansing, MI

Loving wife, mother and grandmother, died December 26, 2002 at the age of 83. She was born June 3, 1919 to the late Neil and Bernice Bass. She married Dr. Gordon Heald, who preceded her in death in 1979. In 1995, she married Fred Colwell of Lansing. C. Jeanette is survived by: husband, Fred Colwell; sons, Robert (Barbara), and John (Darlene) Heald; grandchildren, Danielle (Jack) Turner, Dayna, Megan and Andrew Heald; and great grandson, Robert Turner. Her older sister, Mary Virginia preceded her in death. C. Jeanette was a long-time resident of Lansing, and a member of Central United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 3-7 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2002, at the funeral home, with interment in East Lawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Abronowitz-Hanks, Lisa D.

St. Johns, MI

Age 41, passed away on October 19, 2001 after a long illness. She was born on July 1, 1960 in Lansing. Surviving are: parents: Alan (Janet) Abronowitz, three brothers: Kyle (Mary Jo) Abronowitz of Haslett, Todd Abronowitz of TX., Dale Abronowitz of Lansing, two sisters: Rachael (Juan) DeLeon of Lansing, Wendy (John) Pedersen of MN., three Children: Joshua Atias, Veronica Hanks, Tommie Marie Hanks all of St. Johns, along with several nieces and nephews, and Long Time Friend; Dave Dunham of Coldwater. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the following; Sparrow 7th & 8th Floor, U of M Critical Care Unit, and Dr. Broviac for his years of support and compassion. A graveside service was held at Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at 10 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Women's Wing in memory of Lisa D. Abronowitz-Hanks. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Buhs, Mary Ellen (Slater)

Alma, MI

(Formerly of Lansing, MI)

Age 82, went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2004. Mrs. Buhs was born on August 31, 1921 in Alma, the daughter of Ellen D. (Beam) and Frederick C. Slater. Mary graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing and served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps during World War II. She worked as dispatcher for Guardian Oil and as a transportation secretary for the Lansing Public School system. Mary was an active church member, loved to travel and was a member of Grange Acres Sing-Along. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles C. Buhs; brothers, Kenneth, Frederick, Raymond Slater; and sister, Evelyn Cantrell. Surviving are daughters, Leslie (Samuel) Wells, Nancy (Geary) Morrill, Sandra (Paul) Linn; brother, Donald Slater, sisters, Donna Johnson and Connie Lamerson; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 28 nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Masonic Pathways, Doig Chapel, 1200 Wright Avenue, Alma, MI. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Pathways or to Hospice of Michigan in memory of Mrs. Buhs.

Weaver, Douglas Graham

Lansing, MI

(Formerly of Holt, MI)

Born December 1, 1944, recently joined his parents, Jean and John E. Weaver, Sr., and nephew, David May, into Eternal Life. He graduated from Holt High School in 1963 where he excelled in football, and was surrounded by many close high school friends. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Doug is survived by: brother, John E. (Dianne) Weaver, Jr.; sister, Carol (Joe) May; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with Pastor Wesley B. Emerson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Reynolds, Jr., Clarence Allen "Bud"

Holt, MI

Age 79, passed away on May 11, 2002 in Mesa, Arizona where he spends his winters. He was born on January 2, 1923 in Flint, MI, the son of Clarence Allen and Edna May (Wyman) Reynolds, Sr. He graduated from Central High School in Flint, was a life member of the Lion's Club, a member of First United Methodist Church of Gilbert, AZ and a Associate of Christ United Methodist Church in Lansing. He retired from Michco in 1988, enjoyed RVing, being outdoors and doing volunteer work with Patient Services at Ingham Regional Medical Center. He is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Donna B. (Cornell) Reynolds; 4 children, Sharon L. (Dennis) Ahler, Shirley E. (Pat) Couture, Barbara L. Hoffman, and Clarence Allen "Al" (Michelle) Reynolds, III; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 N. Cedar St., Holt with interment at 2:30 p.m. in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint, MI. There was a luncheon at 11:30 a.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 517 E. Jolly Road, Lansing. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at the funeral home.

Johnson, Dorothy D.

Lansing, MI

Age 85, passed away April 4, 2003. She was born in Lansing on Mar. 6, 1918 and was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. Surviving are: 3 Sons, Ted (Connie) Tycocki of St. Johns, Jim (Wendy) Tycocki of Crystal, MI, Gary Johnson and fiancée, Indra Indane of Lansing; 5 Grandchildren; 1 Great Granddaughter; Brother, Jim (Jean) Douglas; nieces and nephews; Cousin, Fr. Bonaventure Crowley. The Funeral Mass will be concelebrated by Fr. John P. Klein and Fr. Bonaventure Crowley at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday; April 9, 2003 at St. Gerard Catholic Church; 4437 W. Willow. The Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.. A special thanks is given for the care provided by Alterra Clare Bridge of Delta and Hospice of Lansing. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing, Inc.

Hansen, Dorothy Ella

Lansing, MI

Born on June 21, 1914 in Mt. Pleasant was called home by our Heavenly Father on August 7, 2002. Two years ago her beloved husband of 65 years, Ingmar, preceded her in death. They enjoyed 25 years of Florida winters after their retirement. Mrs. Hansen was a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lansing where she served as Sunday School Teacher. She was a semi-pro softball shortstop in the 1930s. She and her husband were active ballroom, round and square dancers. Her Mother, Edith (Quance) Sump died when Mrs. Hansen was three years old. She, her brother, Charles, and sisters, Donna and Doris, were raised by her Father, Carl Sump. All preceded her in death. Mrs. Hansen had very strong family ties with the children God had granted to their family. Throughout her life she was a courageous, loving mother and wife, always praising and thanking the Lord. Mrs. Hansen is survived by: her daughter, Marcille (Edward) Hulscher, who tenderly cared for her in their Marshall home until her death; and also by her son, Douglas (Suzanne) Hansen of Richland. She is survived by: her grandchildren, Thomas (Doreen) Kephart, Mathew Kephart, Rachelle (Michael) McCrone, Gregory (Robin) Hansen, Ronald (Lori) Hansen and Jeffrey Hansen. She was affectionately known by her eight great-grandchildren as G-G-Ma. Mrs. Hansen died from complications after suffering a stroke. She received loving support from Pastor Alan Kamens of Grace Lutheran Church and from the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice of Battle Creek for which her family is eternally grateful. A celebration memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2002 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 528 N. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Lansing. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made in memory of Dorothy E. Hansen to the Good Samaritan Hospice of Battle Creek, 166 East Goodale Avenue, Battle Creek, MI 49017 and the Grace Lutheran Church, Children’s Fund, 528 N. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Lansing, MI 48915.
