Reed, Muriel A.

Age 74, passed away on March 27, 2002 in Trenton, GA. She was born on May 21, 1927 in Miami, FL, and lived in the Lansing and Haslett areas most of her life, until moving to Georgia in 1985. Mrs. Reed was the Assistant Chief Union Stewart at Michigan Bell Telephone Company, and a member of the Pioneer's Telephone Club. She also sold real estate for a short period of time. Surviving are: her husband, Harlan; 3 children, Michael (Mary) Reed and their children, Michael and Britney, of Trenton, GA, Diane (Tom) Pizana and their son, Matthew of East Lansing, Brian (Morie) Reed and their children, Jordan, Tate and Paige, of Ponte Verda Beach, FL. A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., on Monday, April 1, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Rudy Escobar officiating. Interment was in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m., on Sunday.
Conrad, Harry L., Jr. (Bud)
Lansing, MI
Age 86, passed away March 26, 2004. He was born in Lansing April 9, 1917. Mr. Conrad was very active and generous in his community. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Lansing Rotary Club. He was a graduate of Michigan State University earning a degree in Engineering and was former President of The Christman Co. Surviving are: Son, Roger (Shelia) Conrad of Lansing; 3 Grandchildren, Matthew, John and fiancée Erin, and Mary Conrad; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine “Laney” in 2001; his son, Harry Lester Conrad, III; his brother Allen Conrad and sister Dorothy Leyrer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church, 510 W. Ottawa, with The Rev. Anthony A. Patrick officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 p.m. Monday, and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and he will lie-in-state at the Church from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
Flores, Dora Fernandez

Passed away June 7, 2002; born August 24, 1914, in Nava, Coahuila, Mexico, to Alfredo and Guadalupe Fernandez. The family moved to Eagle Pass, then San Antonio, TX. She opened a corner grocery that became Sam's Grocery & Market on Somerset Rd., run with her husband Isidore, Jr. She was also bookkeeper at Fernandez Bros. Produce and an Avon Lady. Survived by her sisters, Gladys Simon and Rebecca Viera; brother, Leonides "Oscar"; son, Dr. Isidore Flores III (Ann Millard) of East Lansing; daughter, Janie Barnes (Glen); grandchildren, Louis Villafranca of East Lansing, Isidore IV (Kelly), and Dean (Amy); and great grandchildren. The family expresses its deep appreciation for assistance to Cristo Rey Sr. Citizens Program, Capital Area Interfaith Respite, ALFA Adult Day Care Program, and Lifespan Adult Daytime Program; and very warm gratitude to Project Choices, Tri-County Office on Aging and staff of the South Wing and Alzheimer's Unit, Ingham Co. Med. Care Facility. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002.
Green, Richard W.
Mason, MI
Called by our Lord and Savior, died on Thursday, December 16, 2004 at the age of 84. Born in Barry County, near Nashville, MI. to parents Harry W. and Ethel (Fassett) Green. Richard graduated from Nashville High School in 1938. He entered the U.S. Armed Service at Ft. Custer in November of 1942. As a combat medic, he served in the 3rd Tank Bn, 10th Armored Div. (Tiger Div.) and was in Bastonge during the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Unit (Presidential) Citation, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European African Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars and the Combat Medic Badge. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945. He went on to obtain a Master’s Degree from M.S.U. in 1950. On September 1, 1951 he married the love of his life, Gertrude Reuss of Marshall, MI. Richard was employed by the Michigan Artificial Breeders, Inc. and following that became a self-employed Livestock Photographer until his retirement. He was a woodworker and refinisher of antique furniture, taught 4-H in the Sandhill 4-H Club, loved the outdoors and enjoyed many years of hunting, especially in the U.P. Mr. Green was a long-time member of the Holt United Methodist Church, served on many committees and taught jr./sr. High Sunday School for 8 years with his wife. He was a member of the Alaiedon Township Board of Review for 26 years. Richard was a Life Member of the North American Hunting Club, the National Rifle Association, the 10th Armored Association, and the Touch of Glass Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and Raymond Green, and sister, Barbara Leeser. Surviving are his wife or 53 years, Gertrude “Trudy”; son, Roger A. (Gloria) Green of Sandia Park, NM; daughter, Rev. Mary K. (Fritz Kruger) Green of Eagle Grove, IA; son, David M. (Laurie) Green of Stanley, NM; granddaughter, Crystal K. (Robert) Petty of Albuquerque, NM; step-grandsons, Joe (Stephanie) Andrews of Concord, CA; Brian (Janice) Andrews of Pittsburg, CA; and Jesus Quiroz of Albuquerque, NM; 2 step-great granddaughters; brother, Robert V. (Marian) Green of Bellevue, MI; sister, Ruth M. Vogt of Mattawan, MI. along with several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Holt United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lynn E. Grimes officiating. The family will receive friends at the Holt United Methodist Church, in the Chapel, on Monday, December 20th from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in loving memory of Richard W. Brown, Melba Catherine
East Lansing, MI
Beloved mother, grandmother, great and great great grandmother, went to be with her Lord Jesus on January 7, 2004 at the age of 93. She was born to William and Olive Schepler on October 30, 1910 and lived in Mackinaw City, until her move to the Lansing area in 1941. She married Lee C. Brown in 1928 and they had five children, all born in Mackinaw City. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Olive and Sarah; brothers, Robert and William; husband of 54 years, Lee C. Brown in 1983; and son, Lee, Jr. in 1972. Survivors include: children, Melba Brown of Kalamazoo, Robert (Lorna) Brown of Orlando, FL, Mary Michels of Laingsburg, and William Brown (special friend, Norma Teague) of Eufaula, AL; daughter-in-law, Katy Brown of Lansing; 13 grandchildren, Lee (Annie) Brown of Mesa, AZ, Georgia (Dennis) Boyle of Portage, Fred Brown of Kalamazoo, Cathy McLaughlin of Long Island, NY, Margie (Steve) Gerencer or Rockford, LeAnn (Jim) Hart of Clyde Township; Jamie (Tim) Nickodemus of Wake Forest, NC, Teresa Brown of Orlando, FL, Bobby (Rhonda) Brown of Lansing, Brent (fiancé, Laura Harden) Michel of Perry, Kim (Ron) Dunn of Laingsburg, Jeff (Denise) Brown of Lansing, Steve (Becky) Brown of Charlotte; 19 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; and 7 step great grandchildren. Mom was a Grey Lady at the old McLaughlin Hospital in downtown Lansing before it became Lansing General in South Lansing, and then became a volunteer in the Gift Shop at Ingham Regional Medical Center in 1984, which she loved doing for over 12 years. She was a doting grandmother, and all loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. May she rest in peace. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Kirby Smith of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Lawrence Hospice in memory of Melba Brown.
Morse, Grace Mary (Mertens)
Lansing, MI
Age 71, passed away on February 3, 2002. She was born in Bay City, MI on May 30, 1930, and graduated from Bay City Central High School, Bay City Jr. College, and Michigan State University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She had taught elementary education in Midland, Bay City and Jackson; was a Past President of the Vivian Society of Lansing Lodge #196 B.P.O. Elks; was a 13 years volunteer at Sparrow Hospital; and was a former receptionist at the Lansing State Journal. She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Mildred Mertens and sister, Jean Wiltse and an aunt, Linda Bromfield all of Bay City. Surviving are her husband of 47 years, whom she married on February 12, 1955, Donald L.; sons, John F. Morse and James T. Morse, both of Lansing; aunt, Florence Black of San Mateo, CA; and brother-in-law, Thomas R. Wiltse of Longboat Key, FL. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Anthony A. Patrick of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was held at Elm Lawn Cemetery, Bay City at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2002. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, in memory of Grace Morse.
Brown, Donald Francis
Rochester (formerly of Okemos)
Donald Francis Brown died Monday, October 14, 2002 at Mercy Bellbrook Nursing Facility in Rochester, MI under the care of Mercy Cranbrook Hospice whose help and comfort have been invaluable to the family. Don was born May 21, 1922 to Ambrose Francis Brown and Mabel Ivalene Fish in Jackson, MI. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1941 where he was a very talented musician. He played in the school band and as a cornet soloist in school and church. He also played in professional orchestras. He qualified for a music scholarship at Michigan State College, but was unable to take advantage of the opportunity because of World War II. He joined the United States Marine Corps on October 1, 1942, and was discharged on August 28, 1945. During that time, he was assigned to the 4th Marine Division and played cornet and french horn in the 24th Regimental Band which served in the South Pacific-Iwo Jima, Saipan and the Marshall Islands. When he returned to the States, he was hospitalized for a few months. After he returned home, he enrolled in the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Upon graduation, he was employed by American Typesetting Co. in Chicago. During this time, he married Barbara Jean Burt, daughter of David C. and Zada Abrams Burt, on January 10, 1948. They lived in the Chicago area until 1966 when Don had an opportunity to move back to Michigan as a sales representative for a publishing company. By that time they had two children, Kyle Christine and Craig Cameron Brown. Their daughter, Kyle Abbott, of Rochester, MI, has two children, Tiffany Lynn, and Shane Alan Patzer (Marcy). There will soon be two great-grandchildren, one yet in October, and another in May. His Marine Corps buddies were still very dear to him, and for many years they have held reunions every other year, meeting in a different location each time. Their number has dwindled to a precious few. Don was also a member of the Pine Valley Hunt Club which is located near Hubbard Lake. As a member for over twenty-five years, he has many close friends, some of whom live in Rochester, MI where he has resided since December 2001. Besides hunting, he loved to play cards withy his friends in a coffee shop in Okemos. Surviving besides his wife, two children and two grandchildren are two sisters, Barbara Azzarelli of Kankakee, IL, and Eleanor Bartholomew (Bruce) of Lubbock, TX, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Don will be cremated following the services, and his ashes spread on the wind, the water and the soil at his cabin on Wycamp Lake near Cross Village, which he dearly loves. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Marines Toys for Tots, in memory of Don.
