Age 31, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 of ovarian cancer. She was born on January 2, 1971 in Port Huron, MI and had lived in Holt most of her life. She graduated from Holt High School in 1989, received as Associates Degree from Lansing Community College and a Bachelor of Arts from the Center for Creative Studies and was employed at Pentamark of Troy, MI and was a member of the Gilda's Club. She is survived by: parents, Judi and Carl Prapotnik; brother, Robert Prapotnik of Holt; grandmother, Vivian Norton of Armada, MI; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 27, 2002 at the Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 N. Aurelius Road, Holt, with the Rev. Lynn Grimes officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holt United Methodist Church or Gilda's Club of Metro Detroit.
Venable, John H.

Age 71, passed away on October 30, 2001. He was born on March 3, 1930 in Carmi, Illinois, and had been a Lansing resident since 1978. He retired from Skethkamp Dodge in 1995, after 17 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by: son, Jeffrey V.; and brother, James. Surviving are: his wife of 46 years, Wava "Jean"; sister, Vonda Sheets of Anderson, IN; sons, James (Julie) of Lansing and Ross of Lansing; daughter, Trinda (Terry) Evans of Mason; daughter-in-law, Mary Venable; 6 grandchildren, Justin, Joel, Jacob and Cassandra of Lansing and Ryan Venable and Ashley Ochoa of Gaylord. A funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Carol Ingalls at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2001, at Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with entombment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2001. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society, in memory of John H. Venable.

Age 86 passed away Saturday, September 15, 2001. She was born, September 3, 1915 in Lansing, The daughter of William E. and Nellie L. (Goff) Algate. Nellie is survived by: Son; James (Nancy) Drumm of Lansing, Grandchildren; Jamie (Gene) Dexter of Seattle, WA., and Mark (Sandra) Drumm of Lansing, Great Grandson Brandon Drumm of Lansing. and brother; Frank (Joyce) Algate of Goshen, IN. She was preceded in death by Her husband Fred H. Drumm. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Wednesday September 19, 2001 at Deepdale Memorial Gardens Chapel with The Rev. Robert E. Salmon of the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church officiating. The family received friends From 7-9 pm Tuesday at The Estes-Leadley-Greater Lansing Chapel. Donations may be made to the Mt. Age 89, passed away on August 13, 2002. She was born on November 17, 1912 in North Otto Creek, ND, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Mettler) Dachtler. She graduated from the Michigan School for the Blind and was employed by the State of Michigan for 20 years. She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was preceded in death by: her husband, John; and daughter, Janice. She is survived by: son, Duane (Sue) Noland of Canton; 3 grandchildren, Andrew and Neil Noland and Diedra Epps; 4 great grandchildren, Haley, Benjamin, Brittany and John; and 1 brother, Harold (Jean) Dachtler of Lansing. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, August 16, 2002 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1601 W. Holmes Road, Lansing, with Pastor Robert Appold officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Rowell, Mavis J.

Age 82, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2003, at her home surrounded by her loving husband and three children. She was born on September 28, 1920 in Lake Orion. She graduated from Owosso High School and was a lifelong Lansing resident. She was employed at Adams Tool and Engineering for over 28 years. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Max and Ethel Bristol; brother, Stan Bristol; and sister, Shirley Goodwin. Mavis is survived by: her husband of 61 years, Ivan; daughters, Carmen (Richard) Traill of Phoenix, AZ and Judith (Daniel) Rowell-DeVaney of East Lansing; son, Michael (Karen) Rowell of San Antonio, TX; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter. Mavis was an exceptionally generous, giving person. Her volunteer service included work at Community Mental Health, Mary Avenue Nursing Home, Ingham Regional Medical Center, and the Food Bank at her church. She served as Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Holt, where she was active in many service activities and enjoyed playing bells. Mavis was also a free spirit. She earned her private pilots license at the age of 60. She enjoyed flying her own plane and partnered with her husband in an aerial photography business. Her love of all types of dance illustrated her love of life, its beauty, and its many rich relationships. A memorial service will be announced in late June at the First Presbyterian Church in Holt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mavis’ memory to Sparrow Hospice Services or to the First Presbyterian Church of Holt. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
Gratz, Milton Sherman

Milton Sherman Gratz was born on March 22, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Captalia and Sherman Gratz. He was educated in the Detroit Public School System, and attended Lansing Community College where he received a Certificate as a Substance Abuse Counselor. Milton served in the Air Force branch of the military and received three citation medals before his honorable discharge in 1954. Mr. Gratz was preceded in death by his parents, Captalia and Sherman, siblings, Lorraine and Ervin Gratz. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife, Mavis; step-daughter, Faye (Anthony) Robertson; mother-in-law, Ora Hayes of Lansing; sisters-in-law, Cleo Gratz of St. Louis, MO, and Phyllis Brown of Battle Creek; brothers-in-law, Ted Walker and Melvin (Shirley) Walker; nephew, Alvin Smith of St. Louis, MO; special cousin, Audrey Brown of Detroit; longtime devoted friend, Walt Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 2, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Diane Dalton, Associate Minister of Mount Hope Assembly of God, officiating. Friends may visit Mr. Gratz on Thursday between 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be on Monday, May 5, 2003 in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Age 90, passed away on September 24, 2003. She was born on September 13, 1913 in Lansing, the daughter of Alexander and Jennie (Robinson) LaFlamme. Margaret retired from First of American Bank after 26 years of service; also attended the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Graves. Surviving are: sons, Lawrence (Davine) Parker of Okemos and Kenneth (Leslie) Parker of California; daughter, Karen (Dean) Steward of Charlotte; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2003 at Deepdale Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Wesley B. Emerson officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice.
Peterson, Ruth C.

Ruth C. Peterson passed away on January 31, 2003 at the age of 89. She was born December 26, 1913 in DeWitt Township the daughter of Herman P. and Julia E. (Knaup) Krause. Ruth earned her B.S. Degree and Masters Degree in special education from Michigan State University. She taught in several school districts including Laingsburg, Reading, Otsego and the Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing. Music was an important part of her life. She played the piano and did accompanying for singers and small choral groups. Ruth also sang in many choirs and choruses and enjoyed going to symphony concerts. She was an active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was involved in many church groups. Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Ellsworth M. Peterson, son Pastor Kurt M. Peterson of Bridgewater, MI and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were three sisters, Edna Gorton, Betty Gehman and Bernadine Mutch. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 528 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Lansing. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens with The Rev. Alan W. Kamens officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
