Brennan, Anna Marie
Okemos, MI
Age 88 and alert, active and lively until enduring a very brief illness before her death on January 16, 2003. She was born Anna Brashinger in Chicago, IL on December 12, 1914. There she grew, married, and raised three children. Ann moved to Lansing in 1981 and in March of 2000 became a resident in the Ingham County Medical Care Facility in Okemos, where she enjoyed loving care from a dedicated, professional, personable staff. The family especially appreciates their attention to her. She made many friends there and was active in its various activities, particularly enjoying German classes, music, art and bingo. Because of her snack regimen, she was known affectionately as “Anna Banana”, and had great fun with that nickname. She delighted in her time with family members, including drives to places of natural beauty that she loved in her adopted state. She worked in a Chicago defense plant during WWII and remained a working mom. Ann taught Sunday School classes for 30 years in the First Church of God. She earned a degree from the Chicago College of Naprapathy and became a part-time faculty member. She retired from Superior Match Co., in 1971. Ann is survived by: her children, Ray (Sybil) of Lansing, Richard (Marlene) of Merrionette Park, IL and Kate DeWitt of Camdenton, MO; brother, George Brashinger of Tomah, WI; sisters, Helen (Walter) Hartung of Tinley Park, IL and Adeline Bredlau of Flossmoor, IL; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren in Illinois, Michigan and the Dominican Republic. She was preceded in death by: her German-born parents, Matthew and Katherine (Koch) Brashinger; her husband, Norbert; sisters, Julia Cianci and Mary Kleinblossom; and brother, Matthew Brashinger, Jr. At her request, there will be no funeral services. There will be a memorial service for family in Chicago in late May. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham County Medical Care Facility. Age 82, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2001. She was born on June 22, 1919 in Rochester, MI, the daughter of Robert W. and Opal E. (Staninger) Titus. She graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1938, and was employed at the State of Michigan, Department of Child Support, retiring in 1987. She enjoyed being a member of the Holt Garden Club, Club 20 and she attended Our Savior Lutheran Church. She enjoyed life and friends and she will be greatly missed, especially by her family. She was preceded in death by: ex-husband, Charles W. Keep. She is survived by: sons, Lynn (Linda) Keep of Holt and Leslie Keep of Grand Ledge; daughters, Lisa Keep Sparks of Holt and Lori (Joseph) Dobos of Columbus, OH, and caregiver and friend, June Roll of Lansing. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 5, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with Pastor David P.E. Maier officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, November 3rd and 4th, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Colwell, Robert O.

Age 51, died Nov. 30, 2002 in Pompano Beach, FL. Born Nov. 24, 1951 in Lansing, MI to Fred E. and Mary Lorraine Colwell. He was a 1970 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, and attended Lansing Community College. His mother, Mary Lorraine preceded him in death in 1992. He is survived by his father, Fred; brothers, Richard (Karen) of Dublin, OH, and Douglas A. of Mason; and a sister, Mary Jane McCallum of Peachtree City, GA; along with seven nephews and nieces; and grandfather, Allen Wortman of Malvern, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 in the Chapel of the Apostles of University United Methodist Church; 1120 S. Harrison Rd.; East Lansing, with Pastor Carole Strobe Lyman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the University United Methodist Church.
Brenke, William August
Lansing, MI
Age 86, passed away on March 7, 2003. He was born on August 6, 1916 in Lansing, the son of August L. and Bernice (LeSeney) Brenke. William was a Lansing Eastern graduate; a WWII veteran; and a member of the Olds-Higgins Post #3727, V.F.W. He retired from Oldsmobile following 30+ years of service; was on the Lansing City Council for 13 years; and was instrumental in salmon being introduced to the Grand River, was instrumental in developing and construction of the Brenke Fish Ladder; and was also a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Myrtle; daughter, Nancy Collett; grandson, Robbie Collett; 2 brothers, Robert and Clarence Brenke. Surviving are: daughter, Patricia M. (Frank) Beck of Bellevue; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, Scott (Beth) Collett and their children, Ashley and Victoria, all of Mt. Pleasant, Steven (Kasa) Collett and their children, Nathan and Stephanie, all of Howell, Rosa and Tricia Beck, both of Bellevue; sister, Marjorie (Carl) Wilcox of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2003 at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 501 E. Mt. Hope, Lansing, with the Rev. William E. Haggard and the Rev. Pamela Mathieu officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
Brenke, Esther Pauline (Czich)

Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend went to be with her Lord on October 4, 2001 after a brief, but courageous struggle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Lansing, MI on October 6, 1926, Esther is the daughter of Minnie (Koehler) Czich and Carl J. Czich who preceded her in death. She is survived by: her husband of 52 years, Robert Keith Brenke; 2 daughters, Jo Ellen (Richard) Miskowski of Holt and Nancy Ann (Richard) Farrar of Maryland; 2 grandchildren, Christine Miskowski and Matthew Farrar; 2 sisters, Barbara (Robert) Martin, and Marguerite Ringenberg; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lansing, Brownie Leader, Sunday School Teacher and a volunteer for 10 years at Ingham Regional Medical Center Foundation. She loved to spend time with her family, work in her garden, read, listen to music, square dance, sew, do arts and crafts and walk on the beach. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1949 with a BS in Chemistry. After raising her children, she worked for many years in the Physiology Department at MSU, and retired from there in 1991. She will be deeply missed by her family. We will love her forever. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2001, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 501 W. Saginaw St., in Lansing, with the Rev. Richard P. Leader officiating. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-5 p.m. Sunday. Those desiring may make contributions to Hospice of Lansing, 4-H Children's Garden at MSU or to Ingham Regional Healthcare Foundation in memory of Esther P. Brenke.
Breisch, Louise R.
Lansing, MI
Born in 1905, died May 1st. She was a member of two of Lansing’s pioneer families. Her parents were Christian Breisch and Emma Louisa Cushing Breisch whose families came to Lansing in the 1860’s and operated the Breisch Grain Mill in North Lansing. Louise’s brother, Harold, and sister, Irene Jared, preceded her in death. Louise was a championship golfer in her younger days. She was the last surviving founder of the Junior League of Lansing, and was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. Louise was a feisty, lovable, opinionated woman whose thinking was far ahead of her time. No task was too complicated or stressful for her. Her devotion to her family kept her continuously giving to those she loved. She is survived by nephews and nieces of several generations. There will be no services. Contributions in Louise’s name can be made to Sparrow Hospice or the Capitol Area Humane Society. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Age 94, born October 19, 1909, passed away on June 29, 2004. Surviving are: son, Eugene Gibbons of Dimondale; and grandchildren, Jordan and Jessica Gibbons, both of Dimondale. No services will be held. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Brazee, Eugene L. "Gene"

Age 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2001. He was born on June 30, 1912 in Lansing, the son of Frederick and Mina (Balmer) Brazee. He retired from Oldsmobile Forge Plant, was a member of UAW Local 1618 and the Retiree's Travel Club #184. He was preceded in death by: wife, Dorothy. He is survived by: sons, Frederick (Ruth) Brazee, Gerald (Nancy) Brazee of Lansing, and Larry (Patricia) Brazee of Portland; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty (Ed) Lyons of Lansing. Religious services were conducted by Chaplain Kathryn Baughman of Hospice of Lansing on Monday, September 24, 2001 at 10:00 a.m., at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment followed in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Sunday, September 23, 2001 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lansing, in memory of Eugene Brazee.
