McCuaig, Gary B.

Age 65, passed away on April 1, 2002. He was born in Alma, MI on January 13, 1937, to Donald and Ilah McCuaig, and has lived in Holt for the past 11 years. Gary was an Instructional Media Specialist for Instructional and Public Television Services at Michigan State University for 32 years. He love golf, music and cribbage. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pat McCuaig; children, Scott and Steven; sister, Nancy (Ronald) Holliday of Morley, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service was held at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 6, 2002 at the Haslett Community United Church of Christ, 1427 Haslett Road, with the Rev. Kurt Kirchoff officiating. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., on Friday, April 5, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Haslett Community United Church of Christ, in Gary's memory.
Ballard, Barbara Ann
Lansing, MI
Age 76, went to be with her Lord on June 22, 2002. She was born in Ludington, MI on Oct. 2, 1925 and has lived in Lansing for most of her life. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Society. Mrs. Ballard was an active member of the Altar Society and also served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry and was a generous contributor to her Church and community. She was employed with Michigan National Bank for 20 years, retiring in 1985, and most recently was employed with Gorman's Food Market. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brice Ballard in 1976. Surviving are: 3 Children, Fred Lynch of Lansing, Kaye Ann Thomas of Baltimore, MD and Edward Thomas of Kalispell, MT.; Granddaughter, Shannon Marie Lynch; nieces, nephews, and cousins to include Margaret Mary Morrison. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002, at St. Therese Catholic Church; 102 W. Randolph St. with Fr. Kenneth C. McDonald as Celebrant. The Rite of Committal was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, where a wake service was held at 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Ballard will lie-in-state at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent's Home Building Fund; St. Therese Church or school; or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
Mikko, Victor F.
Lansing, MI
Age 83, passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2001. Born on May 10, 1918 in Hancock, MI, he served his country proudly as a Lieutenant in the 8th Air Force with the 453 Bomb Squad in England as a Navigator/Radar Bombardier during World War II over Germany. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a member of VFW Post # 3165, Negaunee, MI. He was preceded in death by his 2 wives, Ruth (Beard) Mikko and Marian (Upright) Mikko; 2 sons, Ronald J. and Jeffrey A. Mikko; his sister, Elsie Korpela, and 2 brothers, Peter and Isaac Mikko. He is survived by 3 sons, Thomas of Lansing; Robert (Margie) of Lansing, Richard (Linda) of Negaunee, MI; daughter, Kathy Konopnicki of Lansing; sister, Dagmar (Del) Haeger of Lansing; brother, Karl (Florence) of Escanaba, MI; 9 grandchildren, Steven and Barry Mikko, Stacey Feldpausch, Shelly Ryan, Brent (Chell) Mikko, Troy (Karen) Mikko, Jerry and Daniel Konopnicki and Amy Churchill of CA, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 step-daughters, MaryEllen (John) O'Doherty of Haslett, and Nancy (Richard) Campbell of Joliet, IL and their respective families. During his lifetime, he served his country proudly, raised and was a good father to his family, was a father figure to a second family, and a good husband to 2 wives. He taught us all to live, love and be happy; to treat others with respect, and live our lives so that we in turn would be respected. He encouraged us intellectually to always use our minds and never stop learning in life. He enjoyed the challenge of playing poker and beating the odds and in his lifetime he has done that several times. Per our father's wishes, he will be cremated, and his ashes laid to rest in the Upper Peninsula, where he will be at peace with his Maker. We will be having a small memorial and burial service in celebration of his life in the spring of 2002. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Donovan, Faith C.

Age 76, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004. Faith was born in Lansing. She retired after 30 years as a supervisor from the Secretary of State, Licensing Division. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holt. Surviving are sons; Michael (Kelly) Oden of Muir, MI, Rick (Esther) Oden of New York, daughters; Sharon (Roy) Thomas of Eaton Rapids, D’Ann (Jim) Clark of Eaton Rapids, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, brothers, Eugene Duling and Roger Duling. Her husband James Oden preceded her in death. The family will receive guests from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 N. Cedar St.; Holt, MI 48842. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Holt, 2021 North Aurelius Rd, Holt, MI, 48842 at 12 Noon Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 with Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Brooks officiating. Mrs. Donovan will lie-in-state at the Church from 11 a.m. until service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
Balzer, Judy Ellen

Born May 3, 1948 went home to the Lord on June 30, 2002 at the age of 54. Judy worked for the Treasury Department for 32 years and was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church. She was preceded in death by: father Harold Sanford in 1974; and sister, Shirley in 2000. She is survived by: mother, Lucille Sanford of Mason; children, Michael Balzer of Lansing, Kim Balzer of Holt and Jackie Balzer of Mason; granddaughter, Kyla; 3 sisters, Karla Peters, Rose (John) Ybarra and Pat Harward, all of Las Vegas; brothers, Jim (Eileen) Sanford of Greenbush and John (Vicki) Grant of Mason. A funeral mass was celebrated by Fr. Pius Poff at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2002 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1611 W. Oakland, Lansing. Rite of Christian Burial followed in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2002, with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Gerber, Dustin Eric

God received our little angel and gave him wings today. Age 19, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2004, he was born on April 21, 1985 in Lansing, the son of Lori and Jim Gerber. Dustin was involved in the All Saints Lutheran Youth Group, enjoyed playing soccer, riding his skateboard, listening and playing music, especially his guitar, hanging out with his friends and his pets. He was a loving son, brother, grandson and friend who will be sadly missed by: his parents, Lori and Jim Gerber; sisters, Angie and Martha; brother Christopher; grandparents, Loren and Margaret Gerber and Murray and Marianne Vivian; great grandmother, Sophie Uhryn; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and many close friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at All Saints Lutheran Church, 720 W. South in Mason, with the Rev. Karen Yakimow officiating. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be given to All Saints Lutheran Youth Group or to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Dustin.

Age 24, passed away on October 13, 2002. He was born December 22, 1977. Michael was attending school at LCC and worked at AT&T Broadband in Lansing. He was a member of Holy Cross-Catholic Church . His mother, Judy Ellen Balzer, preceded Michael in death on June 30, 2002. He is survived by: father, Jerry Dean Balzer, 2 sisters, Kimberly Kay Balzer and Jackelyn Marie Balzer both of Holt, niece Kyla Deserae Pettway and fiancee Pauline Lienhart of East Lansing. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Rite of Christian Burial will follow at Maple Ridge cemetery. Michels, Howard C. “Mitch”

Age 77, passed away on June 10, 2003. He was born on June 25, 1925 in Lansing, the son of Howard C. and Emma (Clippert) Michels. Howard retired from Board of Water and Light in 1987 and loved to golf and go camping. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. (Baas) Michels in 1984. Howard is survived by: son, Mark and Donna Michels of Shelby Township; daughter, Ann and Darrell Jones of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Alysin and Alexander; sister, Mary and Earl Weatherby of CA; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Perry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 12th at the funeral home.
