Steward, Margaret E. "Peggy"

Age 87, passed away on October 21, at the home of her daughter in Zanesville, OH. Mrs. Steward was preceded in death by her husband; Donald Clive Steward. Peggy was an active member of Judson Memorial Baptist Church of Lansing, MI. In her retirement years, she was a member of Northside Baptist Church of N. Ft. Myers, FL. She is survived by two daughters, Shirely Anderson of Zanesville, OH, Mary Ann Esterberg of Eugene, OR, and Robert Dyer of Lansing, MI, along with 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. There was a funeral service on Saturday, October 27th at 12 noon in Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice c/o Shirley Anderson. "And Peggy" walked with God; and she "was not for God Took her."
Elmore, Frank Lee

Age 48, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2001. He was born on April 17, 1953 in Antony, KS, the son of Bobbie Dean and Geraldine (Morgan) Elmore. Frank was a graduate of Liberal High School in Liberal, Kansas, and was employed by Whaley Steel Co. where he worked as a construction steel worker. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardner. He is survived by: his wife of 20 years, Deana; sons, Christopher at home, and Jeremy of Lansing; granddaughter, Taylor Case of Lansing; mother, Geraldine Sauer of Ulysses, KS; brother, Larry (Jody) Elmore of Kaw, OK; sister, Jeralyn (J.C.) Spielman of Liberal, KS; 5 step-brothers; and 2 step-sisters. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 31, 2001 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael C. Bater officiating. Intermentl followed at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. McKimmy, Dora J.

Age 77 passed away Friday, June 6, 2003. She was born in Lansing, MI on July 11, 1925 the daughter of Harold and Stella (Clucke) Drapper. She was preceded in death by her husband Perry McKimmy. Surviving are two sons Jerry (Linda) McKimmy, Perry (Faye) McKimmy, grandchildren, Dawn (Rob) Lira, Erin McKimmy, Adam McKimmy, Tom McKimmy, Shaun McKimmy, Brandy (Chris) Fry. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Stephen F. Ezop, Chaplain of Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice officiating. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
DeYoung, Stanley

Age 83, went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on Monday, December 9, 2002. He was born on March 13, 1919 to Starr and Olga (Bolitho) DeYoung. He married Marvel Shelp on December 27, 1944. He retired from U.S. Truck Company of Lansing after working for 35 years as a diesel mechanic. Stan was a longtime active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Red Cross as a volunteer driver, and also a current member of the “Bad Boys” bowling team on the Metro Bowl Wednesday morning league. He had also been an active volunteer with the Lansing Chapter of Habitat for Humanity for many years. Stan loved astronomy, was an avid train enthusiast and loved all that life had to offer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marvel; parents; two brothers, Raymond and Richard. Surviving are his children, Doug (Cynthia) DeYoung of Charlotte and Jan King of Lansing; grandchildren, Angela DeYoung, Brad (Young) Choi-DeYoung, Lorenzo DeYoung, David King and Laura (Joe) Chin; great-grandchildren, Erica and Victoria King and Alexis Chin. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2002 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1919 S. Pennsylvania with the Rev. Jane Duffey officiating. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Calvary United Methodist Church or the Red Cross in memory of Stanley.
Shaver, John R., PhD.

Age 86, passed away Jan. 10, 2003. He was born in Philadelphia, PA Nov. 7, 1916. He was a Veteran of W.W. II, serving in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic and Pacific Campaigns. His education included degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, University of Brussels and California Institute of Technology. He was a Teacher and Professor at Franklin and Marshall Colleges, and the University of Missouri before coming to Michigan State University in 1956. He was Acting Chairman of Zoology Dept. in 1962 and 1974, retiring in 1981. He also taught in Puerto Rico for 10 years during summer vacations. He authored over 50 scientific publications; and was a member of Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi, and the American Society of Zoologists. John enjoyed traveling and good food. Surviving are very close friends and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with The Very Rev. Caroline Stacey officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral from 2-4 and 6-8 Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.
Gates, Curtis V., Sr.

Asleep in Jesus, Curt, 51, left this earth and entered heaven’s gate on October 12, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Curt was born December 12, 1952 in Battle Creek, MI, but lived most of his life in Lansing. He was employed by BWL for 29 years. He was also the Business Manager for IBEW LU 352, overseeing 425 members, and prior to that, serving as the Safety Director for many years. Curt was also an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He had a great love for sports and enjoyed yard work. He is survived by his wife, Carol J. Gates of Holt. He has 2 children, Curtis Gates, Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL and Michelle Gates of Haslett; mother, Takee Gates of Corpus Christi, TX; sister, Linda (Ronald) Haycook of El Cajon, CA; sister, Valorie (Robert) Truderung and niece, Rebecca, of San Diego, CA; aunt, Matsue Young of Corpus Christi; cousin, Kathleen (Thomas) Geller of Corpus Christi; stepchildren, James Hedrick; Cari (Dennis) Meredith of Denver, CO; mother-in-law, Ruby Stemme and brother-in-law, Calvin Stemme, both of St. Louis, MO. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2004, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5740 W. Holt Rd., in Holt, with The Rev. John A. Schinkel officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church. The family wishes to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for their care of Curt, and their support of his family.
Gaugier, William John

Age 63, loving husband, devoted father, baby brother and Spartan fan, went to be with Jesus on June 26, 2002. Bill loved fishing, playing blackjack, crossword puzzles and travel. Bill was born in Lansing on December 22, 1938, to John and Mary (Kelley) Gaugier and graduated from Resurrection High School in 1956. Bill attended Michigan State University and received his bachelor's degree from Aquinas College. He retired as Chief Operating Officer from MICOA in January, 2000 after over twenty-four years of dedicated service to a company he was proud to help create. He also enjoyed a long tenure with Farm Bureau Insurance. Bill was a member of the Lansing Country Club, MSU Alumni Association, MSU Rebounder's and a 33 year member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. Connie (Woodman), his best friend and wife of 44 years survives Bill. Also surviving are: his six children and their spouses, JoEllen and Dennis Healy of Ludington, Jim and Debbie Gaugier of Portage, Kaye and Rinn Evans of Sweetser, Indiana, Steve and Tina Gaugier of DeWitt, Christy and Mike Koren of Lansing and Amy Gaugier of Lansing and her fiancée Dustin Alward, and his daughter, Torree, of Holt; fourteen grandchildren, Kelly, Andrea and Michael Healy, Sara and Mark Gaugier, Stacey, Ryan and Jacob Evans, Emily and Elizabeth Gaugier, Erin, Megan and Matthew Koren; two sisters, Marietta Wahl of Lansing and Sister Josephine Gaugier, O.P. of Saginaw; brother and sister-in-law, John and Nonie Gaugier of Buckley; along with several nieces and nephews and close friends. The funeral mass was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, with interment to follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Monday, July 1, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Gaugier will also lie in state at the church one hour prior to the mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Bill's family strongly encourages everyone to sign their donor card.
Severns, Helen M. (Dubois)

Age 69, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2002 after fighting a courageous battle with Cancer. She was born March 6, 1933 in Holt, MI. a daughter of George and Emilienne (Garby) Dubois. Helen enjoyed volunteering and did so for the American Red Cross and for Ingham Medical Hospital for 15 years. Survivors include two sons; David (Peggy) and Michael, 3 grandchildren; Shawn, Jason, and Elizabeth Severns, and one sister; Georgette (Ted) Galka. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband DuWayne, and granddaughter Anna Severns. A memorial service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family received friends at the funeral home on the day of the service starting at 3:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
