McLellan (Case), Joyce Elayne

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on September 7, 2002. Born January 5, 1926 in Lansing, the daughter of Charles and Velma Case. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Reva McCumby of Traverse City. Married to Donald E. McLellan for over 58 years. Joyce was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 40 years, Central United Methodist Church, a volunteer at Ingham Regional Medical Center for over 25 years and a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed many activities and sports with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Donald; children, Christine (Thomas) Kintigh of Port Charlotte, FL, William (Ardis) McLellan of Charlotte, NC, Thomas (Claudia) McLellan of East Lansing, Wende (Robert) Fowler of Eaton Rapids, JoAnn (Eric) Schaaf of Leslie and Pam (Jerry) Mellen of Aston, PA; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Lois) Case of Holt and Gary (Nancy) Case of Lansing, as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Central United Methodist Church, 215 N. Capitol. With the Rev. Russell McReynolds officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Culver, Sharon A.

Age 58, God saw that she was tired and called her home on Tuesday, January 21st, after several years of illness. At the end she was in spirit with those who loved her. She was born on February 7, 1944. Sharon owned Little Lady Day Care for 21 years, she loved all children, and they responded to her. Mrs. Culver is survived by Richard, her husband of 38 years; and their joy in life, daughter, Ronda L. Culver of Chicago; and son, Richard L. Culver, II of Lansing. Sharon rests in peace with her brother, Leo Potter, grandmother, Lucy Wilson and parents, Letha and Art Potter. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 122 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Groups of Christ Lutheran Church or the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the name of Leo Potter.

Age 83, passed away Sept. 11, 2001. She was born in Owosso, MI March 26, 1918. She was a member of the Okemos Community Church and was formerly employed with the State of Michigan, Dept. of Social Services. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert R. Clapham in March, 2000, and a sister, Virginia Okker in 1999. Surviving are: 2 Sons, Lynn (Mary) Clapham of Providence, RI, Brian (Karen) Clapham of Ann Arbor; Daughter, Judy (Richard) Kuzma of Holt; 5 Granddaughters; 6 Great Grandchildren; 4 Sisters, Carol Watson of Elsie, Alyce Bond of Swansea, SC, Shirley Ondrias of Bath, Jane (Norm) Koerner of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; nieces and nephews. Religious services were conducted by The Rev. Jeanne M. Randels, Pastor of the Okemos Community Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in the Lowe Cemetery, Clinton Co. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Okemos Community Church or to Hospice of Lansing, Inc.
Clark, Merle Irene (Yates)

The angels came to take Merle home on March 26, 2002. Born March 13, 1923 to Joseph and Florence Yates. Survived by husband, J. Frank Clark; beloved, daughters, Judith Perkins (Phil Foote) of Lansing, and Pat (Jim) Daniels of CA; step-son, Robert Leroy (Marcella) Clark; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; also survived by a very special neice, Carole Lee Williams of GA; additionally 6 other nieces and nephews; and 2 special pets, Muffy and Buddy. Merle was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret Abfalter, Ida Graham; husbands, Clarence Torgerson, Dane Bauserman and grandson, Donovan Hart. Merle loved her family, friends and life to the fullest. Her loving spirit touched everyone she came in contact with, she will be missed by all who knew her. Sleep well special lady. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 28, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. William Osborne officiating. Entombment followed in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at the funeral home. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or to a charity of one's choice, in Merle's memory.
Smith, Joe Ella “Big Mama”

On March 3, 2003, she went home to be with the Lord. She was born on December 29, 1923 to the late Joe Coleman and Nathaniel Garrett in Tupalo, MS. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her son; and her husband. She leaves to cherish her memories 6 sisters; 2 brothers; daughters, Annie (Willie) DeBerry, Doris Graves and Jessie Smith; sons, J. Earl Smith, William (Mamie) Smith, John (Roma) Smith, all of Lansing, and the Rev. Robert (Elaine) Smith of Indianapolis, IN; and adopted sons, Cecil Brown, Timothy Smith, Timothy “Bobo” Harris and Mitchell Kuefner. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2003 at Original Church of God, 3500 S. Pennsylvania, Lansing. The host pastor, Elder Albert Kelley, Jr. and officiating the service, the Rev. Robert Smith. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:30 am. until service time at the church. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
Clark, Robert E.

Age 81, passed away on March 25, 2002. Bob was born on January 29, 1921 in Flint, the son of Charles and Ivah Clark. After service in the Air Force, he was employed by Wyeth Laboratories as a research chemist and production manager for 36 years. He had also been a member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus. He then relocated to Northport, FL and Lake City, MI for retirement, with his wife of 48 years, Patricia Clark, who preceded him in death three years ago. Surviving him are: his children, Nancy (Hank) Thoenes of Troy, Gary (Marie) Clark of Lansing and Sue (Pat) Corcoran of Clio; grandchildren, Jessica, Ben and Jacob Clark, Doug and Katie Thoenes and Colleen and Kerry Corcoran. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. There was no family visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan or to a charity of one's choice.
Dimick, Larry Richard

Age 61, passed away on January 14, 2002 at his home surrounded by family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a good friend to all who knew him, and was loved by all. He was a loving, caring and gentle man, who would go out of his way to help anyone who needed him, and will be greatly missed by all, until we are reunited with him in Heaven. Larry was born in Alpena, then relocated to the Lansing area and graduated from Sexton High School. He worked for Felpausch of Mason for 32 years as a butcher, and started his own personal business, Service Blinds. Mr. Dimick coached all of his children in various different sports, and supported them with his encouragement and guidance to help achieve their goals. Larry enjoyed golfing, cooking, yet his largest enjoyment was his time spent with family and friends. He was preceded in death by: his father, Richard Dimick; mother, Blythe Prevo; son, Glen E.C. Dimick; step-father, James (Pops) Patrick. Larry is survived by: his wife of 37 years, Beatrice; 3 daughters, Theresa (Darrell) Osborne, Penny (Kurt) Miller, and Nicole Hake; 2 sons, Terry (Sue) Dimick and Casey Dimick; 7 grandchildren, Harold, Holden, Heather, Brittney, Miranda, Anthony and Austin; 2 brothers, Jerry Dimick and Warren Dimick; and sister, Peg Rabineau. A funeral service was held on Friday, January 18, 2002 at 11:30 a.m., at Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Zimmer, Bertha
East Lansing, MI
Bertel, the youngest child of Carl and Sarah Frank from Koln, was born on April 10, 1910 in Wuppertal-Elberfelt, Germany. She married Rabbi Gerhard Frank from Ichenhausen in 1939 and had a son, Rafael. They spent the war in two concentration camps: Westerbork and Theresienstadt. Gerhard was deported to Auschwitz in the waning days of the war. After the war, in Holland, she learned he had been killed. Her grief was immeasurable. In 1948 she married Mauri Zimmer from Furth. They lived together in Denver for 48 years. She taught at Beth Joseph for 19 years. Her last 5 years were spent in E. Lansing closer to her small family. Bertha worked to ensure that the world would not forget what happened during the Nazi regime. In spite of everything she stayed true to her "Lieber Gott" and always faithful to Judaism. Bertha will be remembered by her family as loving, intelligent, and good natured. We lost her Tuesday, May 21. She was laid to rest in Denver next to Mauri and her sisters. Survivors are her son, his wife, Shirley, and their children Rachel Anne Frank, Michael Gerhard Frank, Meghan Esther Frank. Her favorite charities were Yeshiva Toras Chaim, Denver and U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Wash. D.C. 20024-2126
