Spooner, Hazel Emma (Vander Slice)

Went to be with her Lord, whom she loved greatly, on Monday, August 25, 2003 at the age of 87. Hazel retired from the State of Michigan and was a long-time member of West Windsor United Brethren Church, where she was active in Bible Study. She loved sewing, gardening, cooking and traveling, especially camping. She was preceded in death by: husband, George Spooner; grandson, Matthew Woodcock; and sisters, Beatrice and Evelyn. Surviving are: daughters, Beverly (Ralph) Haines of Potterville and Janet M. (Bill) Luptowski of East Jordan; step-daughter, Patricia (Kerwin) Pyle of Bellevue, WA; sons, Alan (Alice) Demmon of DeWitt and Bruce (Jude) Woodcock of Leslie; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; brother, William (Johanna) Vander Slice of New Era; sister, Lorraine (Art) Taylor of New Era; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and special friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at West Windsor United Brethren Church, 7275 Windsor Hwy., Dimondale. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to West Windsor United Brethren Church.
Griese, Alice I.
Lansing, MI
Age 81, died peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2003, surrounded by her family whom she loved and cherished dearly. As a lifelong resident of Lansing, she attended Moores Park Elementary, Walter French Jr. High, and graduated from Lansing Central High School. She also attended Michigan State College as a Home Economics student. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She especially enjoyed holidays, because she would have her family around her. She was afflicted with Alzheimer’s for some years. She was the only child of Richard H. and Ilah Fern (Clark) Findley, and is now with them. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years and caregiver, Ralph; children, Richard R. (Jane) of Lansing, Garth F. (Kris) of Scottsdale, AZ and Shawn L. (Lyle) Witherspoon of Lansing. Dear to her were her grandsons, Todd R. Griese of Lansing and Joel G. Griese of Franklin, TN; granddaughters, Kelly L. (Terry) Woods of Orlando, FL and Julie Ann Griese of Bowling Green, KY; great granddaughters, Ashley R. Griese of Lansing and Alea D. Woods of Orlando, FL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2003, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with The Rev. Pam Mathieu of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Contributions in memory of Alice may be made to Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Alzheimer’s Association or to Hospice House of Mid- Michigan. Age 37, passed away on March 31, 2004. Jodi was born on June 17, 1966 in Lansing, the daughter of Hazel E. Speckin-Ely and Jerald Duane Ely. Jodi was the mother of 4 loving children, Amber Rose Marie Ely-Costa, Cody LaMonte Costa, Anastasia Eilleen Ely, (who preceded her in death), and DeAndre Medina. She was the proud grandmother of Cedrionna Webb and LaJonte Costa. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Colonial Village Baptist Church, 2010 Boston Blvd., Lansing, with the Rev. Randolph Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Jodi Renee Ely.
McPhee, Betty J.
Holt, MI
Age 79, lost her battle with breast cancer on Saturday, December 28, 2002, she was born on October 10, 1923 in Kalamazoo to Ernest and Marie (Etson) Cone. Betty was a 1942 graduate of Holt Highschool and on August 10, 1946 she married Richard McPhee. They lived in Lansing until 1980, during those years Betty worked for the Dana Corp., Fisher Body and Bell Telephone Co. In 1980 they retired to Phoenix, AZ and recently returned to Holt in 1998. Betty was very fond of all animals big and small. She was a very dear and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard McPhee; daughter, Linda (Rondal) Langston; son, Roger (Sue) McPhee; grandchildren, Renee (A.J.), Sunday (Dave) and Amber (Brad); great grandchildren, Skylar and Ryan, Austin and Tori, Suanna and Ashley; brother, Don (Mary Lou) Cone. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ernie Jr. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with the Rev. Darrell McKeel of Mt. Hope International Outreach officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe given to Ingham Regional Medical Cancer Center in memory of Betty.
Harshbarger, Ralph W.W.

Age 62, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2002. He was born in Akron, OH. On February 6, 1940 the son of William and Alma (Stiers) Harshbarger. Ralph worked as a truck driver for C & J Driveaway/Anchor Motor Freight/Leaseway Transportation retiring in 1985 due to an injury. He was the Past President of Lansing Aerie # 1039, F.O. Eagles, was a member of the Capital City’s Lansing Lodge # 33, F. & A.M., and was the secretary of the Dads Post #275 at the V.F.W. Post #6132 in Lansing. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Margie: 7 children; Jason (Mindy) of Howell, Victoria Harshbarger of Lansing, James (Stacie) of Barberton, OH., Ralph (Cinnamon) of Barberton, OH., Pamela Harshbarger of Barberton, OH., Tammy (Jeff) Jackson of Wooster, OH., and Steve (Lori) of Akron, OH. Along with 15 beloved grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Gale C. Grover, with whom he shared a special bond. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Mike Hefner of Highland Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Noon. Services will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Ralph, to the Kidney Dialysis Unit at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing.

Age 86, died on Saturday, April 10, 2004, five months to the day after his beloved wife of 60 years, Alice. He was born the middle child of John and Marie (Brugman) Griese in Cleveland, OH., moving to Grand Rapids, MI. where he spent most of his youth. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State College. He was employed with Diamond Reo in Lansing (that’s where he met Alice), the State of Michigan, and later was self-employed as an engineering consultant for many years. Ralph was active in school P.T.A., Mount Hope United Methodist Church, and loved to play golf. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include: sons, Richard (Jane) Griese of Lansing and Garth (Kris) Griese of Scottsdale, AZ.; daughter, Shawn (Lyle) Witherspoon of Lansing; grandsons, Todd Griese of Lansing and Joel Griese of Franklin, TN; granddaughters, Kelly (Terry) Woods of Orlando, FL and Julie Ann Griese of Bowling Green, KY; great granddaughters Ashley Griese of Lansing and Alea Woods of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by sister, Dorothy Campbell of Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Pam Mathieu officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. His family wishes to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to the nursing staff at Sparrow Hospital for their attentive care and kindness. Age 89, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2004. Donna was born on September 22, 1914, the daughter of Theodore Perry and Bessie Grace (Holloway) McCully in Mt. Pleasant. She retired from Ingham Regional Medical Center, August 1, 1975 after 13 years of service. Donna was preceded in death by: her husband, Clifford Feazel; 2 sons, Tim and Larry; her parents; sister, Veva (McCully) Arjay; brother-in-law, Ted Arjay and sister-in-law, Roberta McCully. She is survived by: her 3 sons, Terry (Sylvia), Lyal (Ilene) and Tom (Cindy); 3 daughters, Linda Cornell, Cheryl ( James) Kelley and Patsy (Leo) Lanning; 30 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Beverly Feazel; 2 brothers, Rex and Ted (Marilyn) McCully and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with the Rev. Danny Stoneham of Capitol City Church of God officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
Drumm, James E. “Jim”

Age 68, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. He was born on October 13, 1934 to Frederick and Nellie (Algate) Drumm. Mr. Drumm was a graduate of Lansing Everett High School, served in the Army for 11 years from 1954-1965. His overseas tours of duty were in the countries of Korea, Japan and Germany. After leaving the Army, Mr. Drumm worked for the U.S. Post Office and retired as manager of mail classification in 1990. For 8 years after retirement, he worked at Presort Services. He was a member and former Elder of Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church. Mr. Drumm is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Jamie (Gene) Dexter of Seattle, WA; son, Mark (Sandra) Drumm of Lansing and grandson, Brandon Drumm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Nellie. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Hospice House for their kindness. Funeral services will be offered at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Glendale Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. For those who wish, contributions may be given to the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in Jim’s name.
