Dalton, Cheryl Rae
Lansing, MI

Age 64, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tues., October 15, 2002. Cheryl was a loving, kind and devoted mother. She was a strong and courageous woman who showed grace, strength and character as she faced both life and death. She embraced the joys of life, was a former cheerleader and auto show queen from Dimondale. Cheryl reached out in her later years to help God’s children in need by fostering several babies in her home. Her humor, love and wisdom will forever be treasured by her loving companion, Victor M. Bozzo, her children, Stephen (Tammy) Sheely, Cherie (Jeff) O’Malley, LeeAnn (Tom) Petrou, Amy Bozzo and Andrea (Chris) Wheelock; her grandchildren, Shelby and Landon Sheely, Tyler and Christina O’Malley, Alexander and Michael Petrou and Allan Wheelock. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Kay (Harry) Chaffee, and JoAnn (Ray) Hummel. Cheryl was preceded in leaving God’s green earth by her parents, Ward and Helen Dalton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with Dr. Charles Roost officiating. Interment will follow in Dimondale Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent’s Home for Children, Building Fund

Fitzgerald, William Edward

Lansing, MI

Age 76, passed away Nov. 18, 2001. Born June 11, 1925 in Lansing, MI to George F. and Zelma I. (Dearing) Fitzgerald. Bill graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in June 1943 and was a member of the Eastern Fur, Feather and Fin Club. He was in W. W. II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Div. with the 319th Glider Field Artillery. He was in the Airborne Ivasion of Holland, Battle of the Bulge, and was a member of Morley S. Oates Post #701 V.F.W. He was a member of Lansing Lodge #196 B.P.O.Elks and the University Club. He attended Michigan State University and spent seven years in the automobile business prior to joining New York Life on Feb. 1, 1961 where he has continued until his death. He was a Life Member of the Million Dollar Roundtable and won numerous company honors to include 35 years of consecutive council qualifications, and was a member of the Lansing Life Underwriters. He married the love of his life, Patsy M. Moore and they were blessed with 4 children, William P. Fitzgerald, Jeffrey S. (Cindy) Fitzgerald, Terri E. (Randy) Canfield and John E. Fitzgerald; 6 Grandchildren, Tara Brooke Fitzgerald, Brie Anne Fitzgerald, Erica Rae Fitzgerald, John Patrick Fitzgerald, Taylor Fitzgerald Canfield and Jordon Fitzgerald Canfield; Brother-in-law, Major R. Moore. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends for his wisdom and humor. The family gives a very special thank you to the medical staff at Sparrow Hospital. Funeral services were conducted by The Rev. John W. Boley at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 at Central United Methodist Church, 215 N. Capitol Ave. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and he will lie-in-state at the Church from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lansing Eastern High School Alumni Fund; 6035 Executive Dr., Suite 104, Lansing, MI 48911.

Spaniolo, Michael R.

Lansing, MI

Age 89, passed away Dec. 15, 2002. He was born in Charlotte, MI Feb. 3, 1913. He was a Veteran of W. W. II, serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific with Gen. Douglas McArthur’s staff and was a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Law. He was co-founder of Superior Distributing Co., serving as Board Chair and legal council for 50 years. He was Legislative Council for numerous trade associations, most notably the Candy Distributors. They affectionately referred to him as the “candy man”. He was married to his wife, Irma in 1937 and she preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 2002. Surviving are: Son, Michael V. Spaniolo of Grand Ledge; 2 Grandchildren, Stacy (Keith) Dussia of LaJolla, CA and Kristan Spaniolo of Lansing; Brother, James (Josephine) Spaniolo of Holt; Sister, Virginia Spaniolo of Muskegon; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Margaret Zee Jones, MD; M.DIV., Ingham Visiting Nurse and Hospice Chaplain officiating. Entombment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Ingham Hospice.

Earls, JV “Jay”

Haslett, MI

Age 85, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2004 with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 9, 1919 in Greenfield, Tennessee, and has lived on Lake Lansing for 52 years, where he was well known in his neighborhood for his love of gardening. Jay served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the military police and he retired from the USDA in poultry research. He was preceded in death by his son, Jay; and sisters, Mildred, Cecelia and Paula. Surviving are: his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Davis); son, Boyden (Helen); daughters, Wilma and Deborah; daughter-in-law, Kathy; grandchildren, Jodi (Margaret), Brent (Rosemin), Lori (Nancy), Shannon, Bill, Bobby, Sasha (Ross), Kelsey, Scott (Kristen), Kim and Ken (Ellen); great grandchildren, Jasper, Storm Lee, Josh, Justin, Lauren and Dylan; sisters, Pat Conklin and Inez Cary; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2004 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ingham Visiting Nurse and Hospice or to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Hospital in Houston, TX, in memory of JV Earls. Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

MacDonald, Thomas D.

Harbor Springs, MI (Formerly of Lansing)

Age 72, died at home with his loving family August 7, 2003. Tom was born June 13, 1931 in Lansing, MI. He was a 1951 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School; a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army; and retired from Somerset Import-Export Company. At the time of his passing he was a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church of Harbor Springs. He was a Past President of the Old Newsboy’s Association and a former Pleasantview Township Trustee. Surviving are: Wife, Donna; Son, Major Todd MacDonald and wife Lt. Commander Cathy; 2 Grandchildren, Tressa and Ian, all of San Diego, CA; Sister, Blanche Brauer of Lansing; Step-Sister, Bonnie Smith of Kalamazoo; Step-Brother, Art Begeman of Traverse City; Nephew, Max Brauer of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews. Not to be forgotten are Tom’s numerous close and beloved friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday; Aug. 11, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St.; Lansing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Emmerth, Christopher James

Age 32, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2004. He was born February 10, 1972 in Pontiac, MI. Christopher was the owner/operator of Vintage Construction and also worked at the Capital Area District Library. Survivors include his mother, Sharon (Jeffrey) Hetrick of Holt; father, Lawrence D. Emmerth of Fenton; 2 brothers, Matthew K. (Rebekah) Hetrick and Sean M. Hetrick; grandmother, Sophie Emmerth; grandparents, Norman (Virginia) Alley; grandfather, Lee M. Hetrick; aunt, Cheryl (Jim) Flynn; 3 uncles, Richard (Mary) Hetrick, Lee W. Hetrick, and Joe (Brenda) Emmerth; cousin, Joseph Emmerth; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members including, Brooke, Teri, Steve, Tawni, Ayriel, Taylor, Diane, John, Ryan, Christine, and Anita as well as very close friends, Chad, Andy, Corey (Nikki), Jeremiah (Julie), Nate (Paula), Joel, Zack, Mike, Aaron (Jill), Jay, Greg and many other loving friends. Christopher was preceded in death by his brother, Matt S. Emmerth in 1987, grandfather, Joseph Emmerth, and grandmother, Dorothy Hetrick. A memorial service will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David P.E. Maier and Associate Pastor Robert Appold officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to a charity of your own choice.

Estes, Roger Daniel
Gaylord, MI

Age 82, passed away on August 10, 2002. Roger was a resident of Cheboygan since 1998. He was born on September 17, 1919 to Andrew and Cora Mae Estes in Williamston, Michigan. On May 5th 1988 he married Inez Kinnell-Hammond in Lakeland, Florida where they lived until moving to Cheboygan. Roger was a member of the Wesleyan Church. He worked for Motor Wheel in Lansing until his retirement. He was a Big Brother to several young boys and a very prolific poet. He wrote poems to everyone to encourage, praise and celebrate special occasions. He had two books of his inspirational poems published. He is survived by his brother, Leonard Estes and sisters, Evelyn MeGowan and Edna Young Phyllis Whiting, and sister-in-law, Evelyn Estes. Also a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Inez, brothers, Edward and Myron, and a sister, Lula Lockwood. A funeral service will be offered at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at the Free Methodist Church in Williamston, 4400 N. Williamston Road, with the Rev. Burton Kincaid of Owosso Free Methodist Church and the Rev. Doug Bradshaw of Free Methodist Church of Williamston officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Perry, Michigan. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m., until service time on Tuesday. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

Evans, Helen Elizabeth

Lansing, MI

Age 90, passed away August 3, 2003 at Ingham County Medical Care Facility. She will be dearly missed by 2 sisters and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Evans, and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Emerson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham County Medical Care Facility.

Jenkins, Wilma Gene

Leslie, MI

Age 79, passed away Sept. 18, 2001. She was born in Vevay Township, MI on Dec. 9, 1921. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold. Surviving are: 2 Sisters, Beulah Swan of Mason and Louciele Lathrop of Wayne; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 in the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with interment in St. John's Cemetery, Jackson. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
