Grace, Millard A. “Mel”

Age 86 went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2003. Millard was retired from Oldsmobile after 30 years of service. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, cards, golf and watching sports on T.V. (especially Baseball and John Smoltz and the Lakers basketball. He was a member of South Baptist Church; and the greater Lansing Area Bowlers Hall of Fame, where he was active as league secretary and involved, along with his wife, in the Michigan Blind Bowlers Association tournaments and the Lansing 300 Bowling League. Millard was a quiet, gentle, unselfish, caring man with deep respect, pride and love for all of his family. He always enjoyed the company of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was born on July 28, 1916 in Metropolis, IL and was preceded in death by: his father, Robinson A. Grace; his mother, Essie M. (Bivens) Grace; 3 sisters and 1 brother. Surviving are: his wife of 64 years, Mary Louise (Kruger) Grace; daughters, Connie Grace of Lansing and Patricia (Dennis) Shaver of Grand Ledge; grandchildren, Jim Himebaugh of Mason, Diane (David) Hammond of Grand Ledge, and Ken (Shellie) Himebaugh of Grand Ledge; great grandchildren, Daniel, Philip and Amanda Himebaugh of Mason, Gregory and Bradley Hammond of Grand Ledge, and Mallory, Holley and Stephaney Himebaugh of Grand Ledge; and special friend, Connie Baker of Mason. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Rev. David Brooks of South Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24th at the funeral home. Graham, Gertrude Irene
Decatur, AL (Formerly of Lansing, MI)
Age 98 has passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 in Decatur, AL and to join her husband of 58 years, Charles William Graham, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1992. Funeral services in Decatur were held at the First Christian Church on Weds., Oct. 20, 2004. Mrs. Graham was born in Fowlerville, MI on Jan. 24, 1906, the daughter of Otis and Alice Davis, also of Fowlerville. She was proud to have been a former school teacher. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Howard and Harold Davis. Survivors include her youngest brother, LaVerne Davis of Palmetto, FL; 3 children, Robert L. (Janet) Graham of Haslett, MI, Bette M. (Gary L.) Voketz of Decatur, AL and Charles W. (Kathy) Graham, Jr. of Lansing, MI; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor Rex Kibler of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Petoskey, MI officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Grams, James P.
Lansing, MI
Age 88, passed away on September 2, 2001. He was born on June 16, 1913 in Monroe County, and has lived in the Lansing area most of his life. Mr. Grams graduated from M.S.U. with a B.S. in Animal husbandry. He had worked for Planet Corporation, and was especially proud of his contribution toward building the Gateway to the West. He retired from his Mason/Dansville farm in 1973, and became an active member with the A.A.R.P., serving as President of the Harry Hill Chapter. Surviving are: wife, Hazel, children, James (Marie) Grams of Florida, Peter (Debbra) Grams of Massachusetts, Judy Heinke of Illinois, William (Cindy) Grams of Ann Arbor, Susan (Ronald) Erbe of Mason, John Grams of Lansing, Betty (David) Adams of Grass Lake, Donald Beatty of Jackson, Charles Beatty of Lansing, Al Joe (Susan) Beatty of Jackson, David (LayVonne) Beatty of Lansing; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; special friend and care provider, Ron Hensley and the Holt Friendly Home Staff. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Ostrander in 1980. A memorial service was conducted by the Rev. Craig Britton, at 2:30 Friday, September 9, 2001, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of James P. Grams, to the Capital Area United Way, for the prevention of child abuse.
Harris, Pauline F.
Lansing, MI
Age 96, passed away on April 15, 2003. She was born on July 7, 1906 in Battle Creek, and has lived in Lansing for many years. Mrs. Harris graduated from Western Michigan University in 1927 with a teaching certificate. Until her marriage to Therman G. Harris in 1935 she taught elementary school in Wyandotte and New Hudson, MI. Mrs. Harris was an avid artist and, for many years, taught art classes to children and adults. She was a charter member of the Lansing Art Guild and participated in the Guild's loan of paintings program to Lansing hospitals. In the 1960's, one of her paintings was on display in the Library of Congress. She was a member of the Zeta chapter of Alpha Beta Epsilon. In 2002, at the age of 95, Mrs. Harris started a new business, "Prints by Pauline Harris." She also received a State of Michigan Special tribute for her work and dedication to the local art community in 2002. She is preceded in death by her husband in 1992, and by grandson, Frederick James Ford Harris. Surviving are: 2 sons, Richard (Sherrie) Harris of Fremont and Alan Harris of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Richard A.F. (Michelle) Harris, Anna (Jason) Leininger, and Sara (Andrew) Moss; 4 great grandchildren, Cynda and Richard Harris, Moses and Asa Leininger, as well as many other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with The Rev. Jason A. Leininger officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, or to the charity of one's choice in memory of Pauline F. Harris.
Kane, Howard A.
Lansing, MI
Age 94, passed away on May 23, 2003. He was born on December 28, 1908, the son of Alexander and Julia (Luppert) Kane in Lansing, MI. He graduated from St. Mary School and attended the University of Detroit. He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and a life member of the Lansing Elks, Knights of Columbus, the Traffic Club and the GM Retirees Club. He worked at Oldsmobile for 44 years and retired in 1974. He was preceded in death by: his beloved wife, Emily; sisters, Constance Houghton, Genevieve Kane and Dorothy Couzzins; brothers, Russell and Richard Kane. Howard is survived by: son, Frederick (Marjorie) Kane of Haslett; daughter, Jacqueline (Merle) Barnhart of Lansing; 6 grandchildren, James Kane of Lansing, Tom (Stacey) Kane of Williamston, Suzzane Kane of Lansing, Tracey (Frank) Frati of FL, Elizabeth (Alan) Henry of Ada and Patricia Barnhart of Lansing; 9 great grandchildren, Frank Frati IV, Eric Kane, Harley Dalyrmple, Emma Grace Kane, Adam, Melissa and Jessica Henry, Macy and Mackenzie Barnhart; sister-in-law, Anna Kane; and several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Darcy Willet. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour Ave., Lansing, with the Rev. Fr. George C. Michalek officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 26th at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lansing Catholic High School in memory of Howard A. Kane.

Age 97, passed away on Saturday, August, 23, 2003. Funeral services will be offered at Noon on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to First Assembly of God Greater Lansing or the American Heart Association.
Granger, Keith B.

Loving Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather, went to heaven on Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at the age of 98 (On his wife, Josepha's Birthday). He was born on June 4, 1903 in Vermontville, MI. He has been an active member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church for over 70 years. Mr. Granger was a great family man. God and family were the priorities in life. He was preceded in death by: his precious wife of 71 years, Josepha, on March 4, 2001. Also preceding him in death are: his parents, Ernest and Adeline Granger; brother, Dorr; sisters, Iva, Gertrude, Mildred and Martha. He is survived by: 3 sons, Alton (Jan), Ron (Donna) and Jerry (Lynne); 13 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild; sister, Marjorie Childs of Vermontville; sisters-in-law, Frances Ploof of Lansing and Alice Cronk of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. We are extremely grateful to Dad's special caregivers, Ken and Ann Minnema, as well as Betty Thompson and Nancy Rice. Dad set an example for others with his integrity and work ethic. Beginning in the 1920's Keith was in the Construction business with his brother, Dorr, which included erecting pre-fabricated log cabins. He was a project superintendent during the construction of the Lansing City Market, was involved in the construction of the Lansing Fire Station, several Lansing schools and churches. In 1959, he began Granger Construction Co. with his three sons. Keith was a member of the Lansing Lions Club for 40+ years. The funeral service was conducted by Pastor David E. Kidd at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 9, 2002, at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 501 E. Mt. Hope Ave., Lansing, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Friday, March 8, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.

Age 88, passed away at her home Aug. 30, 2002. She was born in Kalamo, MI April 4, 1914 and has lived in Lansing since 1937. She is survived by her husband, Michael R.; Son, Michael V. of Wacousta; 2 Grandchildren, Stacy (Keith) Dussia of LaJolla, CA, and Kristan Spaniolo of Lansing. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at Deepdale Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with The Rev. Stephan Weinberger of First United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the Mausoleum from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Ingham Hospice. Griffith, Robert

Age 86, passed away on November 2, 2003, in McAllen, TX, he was born on November 19, 1916 in Lansing one of 12 children to James and Winifred Griffith. Mr. Griffith was a lifelong resident of the Lansing\Okemos area, graduating from Okemos High School in 1934. He retired from the Lansing Board of Water and Light after 29 years of service and was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Griffith is survived by: his wife, Marie E.; step-son, John S. Smalley of Bloomingberg, OH; brother, Joseph (Marie) Griffith of Dimondale; sisters-in-law, Marcella Griffith of Marshall and Edna Griffith of Pellston; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 6500 Amwood, Lansing. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be given to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in memory of Mr. Griffith. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
