Age 38, passed away in Tampa Aug. 11, 2002. He was born in Lansing, MI on Jan. 17, 1964. He was a 1982 graduate of DeWitt High School; earned an Associates Degree from Lansing Community College; and a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of 1st. Class Petty Officer. Surviving are: Wife, Catherine; Mother, RoseMarie (David) Beardsley of Perry, MI; Father, James Edward Spalding of DeWitt, MI; Sister, Sherry Spalding and her fiancée, Roger Jones of Lansing; Brother, Jason Wyman of Mason, MI; Step-Siblings, Rene (Dennis) Robbins and Dawn Heit of Flint, MI, Lisa Bock of Durand, MI, David Beardsley of Oklahoma, Craig Beardsley of Oscoda, MI; Mother and Father-in-law, Sonia and Ted Richards of Lansing; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002 at St. Andrew Orthodox Catholic Church; 1216 Greencrest; East Lansing, MI with the Father Roman Star of St. Innocent Orthodox Catholic Church, Redford, MI officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Military honors will be provided. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St.; Lansing, MI from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and he will lie-in-state at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. The Panikheda will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. Home, Eaton Rapids, MI.

Age 96, passed away on February 6, 2003. She was born on September 14, 1906 in Millbrook, MI, the daughter of Othel N. and Rhoda (Douglas) Ives, and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1923. Cuma was preceded in death by her husband George T. Warner in 1987 and her son Kenard Christensen in 1989. Survivors include: daughters, Kaye (Richard) Pearse of Lansing and Susan (Larry) Kirkby of Midland; 12 grandchildren, James (Trish) Richardson, Daniel (Jill) Richardson, Jane (Randy) Miller, Julie (Jamal) Deeb, Steven Kirkby, Robert (Kyle) Kirkby, Mary Jo (Fred) Stacks, Kathleen (Guy) Farley, Thomas (Sue) Christensen, David (Kate) Christensen, Jan (Chris) LaRose, and Joni Christensen; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother, L.G. (Joan) Ives; niece Rhonda Ives and daughter-in-law Eileen (Sam) Fortino. The family thanks her devoted caregiver, Patricia Donley. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2003 in the mausoleum at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, with Fr. Bill Lugger officiating. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. Memorial contributions, in loving memory of Cuma, may be made to Hospice of Lansing.
Hueni, M. Jane (Goyt)

Age 66, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2003. She was born in Battle Creek, MI on December 7, 1936 to Charles and Martha Stevens. She was a graduate of Holt High School and attended Michigan State University. Jane retired as a loan supervisor for the Michigan State Employees Credit Union. For many years she was also the organist for St. Casimir Catholic Church. In recent years she was active in assisting refugee families in Lansing and served as President of the Players Club Condominium Association. Jane enjoyed water fitness and traveling to her residence in Naples, FL. She and her family were also active with the Lansing Ski Club and Lansing Sailing Club. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Martha (Cobb) Stevens and her former husband, Tim Goyt. Surviving are her husband, John F. Hueni, II; daughter, Traci (Paul) Sincock of Plymouth, MI.; sons, Tim Goyt of St. Petersburg, FL. and Chris (Annette) Goyt of McAllen, TX.; step-sons, John (Lori) Hueni, III of Riverside, MI. and David Hunenberg of Phoenix, AZ; step-daughters, Jennifer (Isai) Vieyra of Phoenix, AZ. And Rachel (Somkhit) Soukhome of Victorville, CA.; four grandchildren, John Hueni, IV, Jessica Hueni, Andrew and Lindsey Soukhome. Also surviving are her brother, Dan (Wendy) Hueni and sister-in-law, Mary Cantrell along with several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. John P. Klein at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy., Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Monday, October 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Jane, to the American Cancer Society.
Huff, Ruth E.

Age 95, passed away on September 4, 2002 after a short illness. She was born March 6, 1907 in Jackson, MI and lived there until 1995. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid crocheter, as well as a skilled worker in needlepoint. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, J. Carroll Huff in 1994. She is survived by: daughters, Avalee (Clarence) Kallish of Lansing and Vreta Jackson of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Ingham Regional Assisted Living and Ingham Hospice Services. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Age 82, passed away on December 14, 2002, she was born on May 26, 1920 in Manistee, MI to Ewald and Gladys (Martin) Eckoff. Hazel loved Bingo and the years she and her husband Ward lived at Long Lake, most of all she loved being with her family whom she cherished very much. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ward L. Hull; children, Judy (Jim) Kenny, Connie (John, deceased 1987) Osbo, Ward (Linda) Hull, Jerry (Arletta) Hull and Janice (Dayne) Miller; grandchildren, David, Brian, Debbie, Roger, Andrea, Erin, Tina, Tammy, Scott, Staci, Heather, Holly, Hilary, Jarod, Malissa and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother, Bob and sisters, Eileen and Babe. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor Jerry Hull officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Age 84, passed away on March 22, 2003. He was born January 18, 1919, the son of Collins and Lyda Huntington. Russell served in World War II in New Guinea and received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart during the war. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and an active member of Post #7309 in Mason for many years. He retired from the Mason Post Office after being the carrier for Rural Route #4 for many years. His smiling face was also found behind the meat counter at Darrell’s Market. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed an active and fulfilled life. After retiring, Russell, and his wife of 53 years, Alice, moved to Irons, Michigan and Venice, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice and son, Kevin. Surviving are: daughters, Margo (Ron) Switzer of Lansing, Mary Ann of Florida and Jacklyn (Randy) Debarr of Vermontville; granddaughter, Jennifer (Lance) Clark of Dayton, OH; grandsons, Todd Switzer of Colorado Springs, CO and Troy (Susan) Switzer of Chicago, IL; great grandsons, Lucas Switzer of Colorado Springs, CO and Emerald Clark of Dayton, OH; sister, Irene Snyder of Grand Rapids, MI (formerly of Mason); and many nieces and nephews. No services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Russell, to Our Savior Lutheran Church Food Bank, 1601 W. Holmes Road, Lansing, MI 48910 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Age 38, passed away Dec. 17, 2001. He was born in Eaton Rapids Sept. 30, 1963. In spite of an early diagnosis of cancer, Jamie enjoyed a happy and fruitful life. He graduated from the Cranbrook School, Bloomfield Hills; Kalamazoo College ; and earned his Law Degree from Cooley Law School, serving on Law Review. He was a member of the State Bar of Michigan and began his law career in private practice and later joined the law firm of Glassen, Rhead, McLean, Campbell & Schumacher continuing there until 1997. Surviving are: Wife, Jean; 2 Sons, Finley and Max; Father, James Huston of Franklin, MI; Mother, Mary (Bill) Krosky of Elmhurst, IL; Sisters and Brothers, Deborah (Greg) Miller of Elmhurst, Christopher (Heide) Huston of Chicago, Corrie (Kendall) Nettles of Chicago, Jessica and Catherine Huston of Franklin; Grandmother, Laura Winkler of Charlotte; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Richard Preston, Chaplain of Hospice of Lansing, Inc. at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St.; Lansing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Zemer, Helen Elizabeth

Age 88 passed away in East Lansing on Friday, January 17, 2003. She was born the daughter of Max and Pauline Ismay on January 31, 1914 in Portland, MI. Helen was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, Class of 1932 and attended Michigan State College and Lansing Business University. She worked at Jury-Rowe Furniture Store until her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Gartley J. Zemer, on July 18, 1936. Helen devoted her life to raising her family and providing the perfect home. She was especially fond of her five grandchildren. She was a life-long member of People’s Church of East Lansing and an active member of the Vivian’s Society of Elks Lodge # 196. Helen will be truly missed by her son Max (Jacki), her daughter Gartha Lee (David) Angus, special nephews Frederick (Kathy) Partlow and Bruce (Marsha) Howe as well as her grandchildren Tim (Dori) Zemer, Gartley Paul Zemer, Melissa Zemer, Rob (Tamera) Angus, and Peter (Lisa) Angus; seven great grandchildren and her brother, Frederick (Marie) Ismay of Niles, MI. along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gartley, on March 17, 1997 and her sister, Maxine Howe, on September 21, 1999. The family wishes to thank the staff of Burcham Hills Health Center for their loving care and professionalism. They are responsible for making the last six years some of Helen’s happiest. Their gentle care brought out her best qualities. Funeral services will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Helen, to the Burcham Hills Holiday Fund.

Helen B. Hutchinson, age 93, formerly of Washington, PA died on Saturday at Sparrow Dimondale Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Hutchinson; son, David and brother, Roland Buckwalter. Helen is survived by 3 children; Jim (Diane) of Lapeer, Ann of Mason and Marilyn (Jack Johnson) Hutchinson of Lansing; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. A memorial service in celebration of the life of Helen will be held on Friday, December 13, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Mason First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Mark D. Rigg officiating. Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
