Reta I. Watkins
Reta I. Watkins, age 65 of Addison, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2006, at her home. Born on Nov. 11, 1940, in Hanover, Mich., she was the daughter of Eldred L. and Eullenee B. (Nesbitt) Helmick. Reta was raised in the Moscow, Mich., area, and then lived in Addison for the past 15 years. She graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1976. She was co-owner of the Village Coin Laundry-Video Store in Addison. She was a member of the Addison Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are five children, Linda S. (Richard) Baird of Jerome, Phillip D. Hobart of Addison, Lori A. (James) Wilenius of Addison, Lonnie J. (Denise) Goodnough of Hanover, David M. (Kellie) Goodnough of Monroe; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Janice Roberts of Concord, Nancy Helmick of Gregory, Phyllis (Thomas) Collings of Stockbridge, Ellen (Mark) Obenour of Mosherville; three nephews; two nieces and two great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2006, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Pastor John W. Snyder officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Addison Kiwanis Club.
Betty White
Betty White, age 73 of Brooklyn, took Jesus’ hand and stepped into Heaven with the rest of her family on July 14, 2006. Betty is survived by her children, Ashford Dwight (Carol) Tribble of Pinckney, Marcia Kay (James) Bird of Fort Collins, Col; Jackie Neil (Triana) White of Fort Collins, Col; Jimmy Dale White of Brooklyn ; Sindy Meril White of Brooklyn ; and Ruby Caroline (Gus) Zermeno of Jackson; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Joe White. Memorial donations may be made to Great Lakes Hospice or to the family for future designation. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, Brooklyn. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 17, 2006.
Darlynn R. Rowlett
Darlynn R. Rowlett, age 66, of Addison, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at her home. She was born on November 22, 1939 in Erie, Mich., to Clarence E. and Ruth (Wagonbach) Koppelman. She married James E. Reichel on November 22, 1958 in Romulus, Mich., and he preceded her in death on August 15, 2000. She was married to Melvin D. Whitacre. She married George B. Rowlett on October 2, 1981 in Manchester, and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1996.
Dar lived her early life in the Romulus-Wayne County area, before moving to Manitou Beach area in 1982, and then she moved to Addison in 1988. She received her G.E.D. from Addison High School. She was a member of the Addison Kiwanis Club, former member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Wayne, Mich. Dar worked for Chefs Pride Catering. She enjoyed line-dancing, gambling, fishing and going to yard sales.
Surviving are two daughters, Diane R. Reichel of Addison, Dolly D. (Charles) Thrift of Polk City, Fla., three sons, David Reichel of Addison, Leonard (Mary) Whitacre of Bartow, Fla., Keith (Andrea) Foote of Northwood, Ohio. 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, her extended family, Pauline Dermyer and her extra special friend Tony Gudakunst, other extended family, Ervin Gudakunst, James Gudakunst, Teresa Dermyer and Mya, adopted sister, Ester Sawdey, and special companion Lucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and one grandson.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Pastor Kyle Detmers officiating. Cremation followed the service. Burial of her ashes will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Addison at a later date.
Dean F. “The Antenna Man” Bailey
Dean F. “The Antenna Man” Bailey, age 74 years, of Onsted, passed away Thursday morning, June 29, 2006 at his home. He was born January 17, 1932 in Ida, Mich., the son of Burrill and Rena (Bilby) Bailey. He was a graduate of Onsted High School and married Wanda (Dopp) Poling on January 5, 1985 in Adrian. She survives. Dean was a Purple Heart Veteran and a recipient of four Bronze Stars in the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army.
He was employed as a machine operator at the American Chain & Cable Company in Adrian for 35 years and also owned and operated Dean’s Antenna Service for 40 years. He was a member of the Durkee-Seager Post #550, American Legion of Onsted, the 40 et 8 Voiture, the Masonic Lodge, a Life Member of the Brooklyn Eagles Lodge, the V.F.W. and the Amvets. He participated in the American Bowling Congress National Tournament for 28 years and also enjoyed golfing, traveling, baseball and card playing. He was a former member of the Sand Lake and the Onsted Fire Departments. Surviving besides his wife are one son Ronald (Linda) Bailey of Onsted, one daughter, Robin Bailey of Onsted, one step-son, Darrell (Sonya) Poling of Sanford, North Carolina and by one step-daughter, Shelley Mutter of Adrian; his grandchildren, Kenton and Trent Bailey; his step-grandchildren, Ryan Downard, Joni Mutter, Amanda Mutter, Zachary Poling and Cody Seegert and by a step-great-grandson, Jacob Legg. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Keith and by his aunt and uncle, Fay and Leo Dowling.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 2, 2006 in the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted with Pastor Tom McMichael officiating. Interment was at Maple Shade Cemetery in Onsted with Military Rites by the Durkee-Seager Post #550 of the American Legion in charge. Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scout Troop #637, the Hickman Cancer Center or the American Legion Post #550 of Onsted.
James Richard Swain
James Richard Swain of Clarklake, Michigan, passed away June 30, 2006 at the age of 67 under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Hospice. Jim was born in Jackson, Michigan and spent most of his life living near Clarklake. He received a degree in Education from Bowling Green State University and taught at Chelsea High School and Napoleon High School before his career turned to engineering and design.
His evenings were typically filled with odd jobs for friends and neighbors that grew into a hobby. His talent and expertise touched virtually every business and house on Clarklake and he was truly a master of all trades. He was a past president of Clarklake Lions Club and charter member of the Clarklake chapter of the BFA. He and three Clarklake friends rode the raft named “Spirit” down the Mississippi from St. Louis to New Orleans. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Ann and children Richard and Ruthann.

Victor Benjamin Hanneman
Victor Benjamin Hanneman, age 74, of Brooklyn passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006 under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Hospice.
Born May 21, 1932 in Adrian, he was the son of Otto and Vera (Sutton) Hanneman. He married Lila June in 1972 and she preceded him in death in 1999. Victor was also preceded in death by his son, Victor Hanneman, Jr. and daughter, Linda Hanneman.
Victor was a member of the Eagles Aerie #3689 and also the American Legion Post #315 in Brooklyn. He is survived by his son, John (Jenny) Pixley; step-son, Edward (Lois) Kline; grandchildren, Lisa Pixley-Pollard, Amy (Roger) Fox, Mindy Pixley, John Pixley, Jill Kline, Brandy Kline and Ed Kline; sister, Bernice Shadley; niece, Vera (Tony) Rohs; and seven great grandchildren, Kendal Fox, Kylie Pollard, Roger Fox, Kelsey Pollard, Alexander Kline, Lauren Irwin and Kyle Kline.
Cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn. A burial of ashes with Military Honors will take place at Highland Cemetery in Brooklyn on Saturday, July 15, 2006, beginning at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Marjorie M. Gove
Marjorie M. Gove, age 89, of the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Home and formerly of Brooklyn, went home to be with the Lord June 11, 2006 at W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 6, 1916 in Coldwater, Mich., the daughter of Jacob Vern and Hazel (Miller) Kyser. She married Leon Gove on February 3, 1968 and he preceded her in death in 1985.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Ronald Rodda; two sisters, Arlene and Shirley; brother, Ronald and granddaughter, Cassie. Marjorie is survived by two sons, Robert (Patricia) Rodda of Hudson; Edward (Shirleyann) Langowski of Clarklake, step-children, Sandra (Joe) Dennis, Bill (Roene) Gove, Michael (Leslie) Gove; daughter-in-law, Barbara Rodda of Jackson ; sister-in-law, Barbara Kyser of Barryton; 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Marjorie was a beautician for 43 years and was active in activities at the Mill Pond Apartments where she lived.
A Celebration of Marjorie’s life took place on Thursday, June 15, at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn. Reverend Milan Maybee officiated. Burial took place at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Michigan Diabetes Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Marylin Mohr
Marylin Mohr, age 72, of Cement City, passed away June 19, 2006 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor. Born in Jackson on Aug. 18, 1933, she was the daughter of Herbert and Lavonda Howard. She married Dale Mohr on April 19, 1952 and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2006. Marylin was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a terrific sister and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Mohr is survived by her children, Debra (James) Shaffer; Kurt (Ronda) Mohr, all of Cement City, Mark (Mary) Mohr of Jackson and Teri Mohr of Onsted; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings, Donna Rice of Jackson, Edna (Dereck) Clayton of Kalamazoo, Herbert (Bea) Howard and Phyllis Duncan; and sister-in-law, Annie (Doran) Ripley of Napa, Calif.
A celebration of Mrs. Mohr’s life will take place on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, Brooklyn.
Memorial donations may be given to Arbor Hospice or Region II Department on Aging. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home where family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Napoleon.
Hubert T. Noble
Hubert T. Noble, of Brooklyn and Naples, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006. He was born June 24, 1938 in Detroit the son of Hubert D. and Grace (Tomlinson) Noble. He married Monica Angel on March 15, 1956 in Detroit and she survives.
Besides his wife of 50 years, Hubert is also survived by his children, Karen (Richard) Niemisto of Farmington Hills and Michael Noble of Naples, Fla. ; two grandchildren, Wesley William Niemisto and Michael Scott Noble; and two sisters, Betty Jean (Harold) Richards of Canton and Dorothy Lee (Fred) Steiner of Farmington Hills. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of the Operators Union Local #324 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Brooklyn.
A celebration of Hubert’s life took place on Monday, June 5, 2006, at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn, with Rev. Milan Maybee officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Arbor Hospice and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Gerald Jerome Wilber
Gerald Jerome Wilber, age 70 of Dewey Lake, died May 29, 2006 at home after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. Wilber was born January 18, 1936, in Detroit the son of Earl and Thelma (Tillitson) Wilber. On January 6, 1962, he married Linda F. Mooney in Lincoln Park and she survives.
Wilber was a resident of the Irish Hills area since 1993 coming from Canton, Mich. Gerald was a Tool & Die Maker at Ford Motor Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea.
In addition to his wife Linda, Gary is survived by two daughters, Christine (John) Fredriksen of Canton and Sharon ( Gary ) Catenacci of Onsted; son, Vincent (Sue) Wilber of Livonia; sister, Judith (Jim) Burgess of Waterford; brother, Earl David (Judith) Wilber of Canton; a special “daughter,” Cheryl Kelly of Livonia ; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Martin.
Gary was always a source of quiet strength in time of crisis. He will long be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 4, at the Springville United Methodist Church with Pastor Melany Chalker officiating. Interment of cremains followed at the Memorial Garden at Springville United Methodist Church. Full military honors were conducted by the Onsted American Legion Post #550.
