Herbert Lewis Rowland
Herbert Lewis Rowland, born September 14, 1912 in Pioneer, Ohio passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Halifax Memorial Hospital, Daytona Beach, Fla. at the age of 90.
He was preceded by his wife Frances Ruth (Schad) Rowland; a daughter, Sandra Marie (Rowland) Seeger; and granddaughter Linda Woodhams. He is survived by his son, David E. Rowland of Port Orange, Fla.; daughters, Sharon Lynn (Rowland) Richards of Jackson, Mich. and Marie Lorrie (Woodams) Baker of Northwood, Ohio; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Jackson High School, Jackson, and Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, and taught instrumental music at East Jackson, Homer, Brooklyn and Northwest High Schools in the Jackson area. He was active in school activities and was choir director at the Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving in Portsmouth, Va. and Washington D.C. He retired to Tucson, Ariz. in 1976 and lived there until his return to Michigan and then to Port Orange, Fla. He is missed by those who knew and loved him.

Frederic W. Graber III
Frederic "Fred" Graber III of Brooklyn passed away July 4, 2003, age 63. He was retired from TRW Chassis Systems (formerly Varity Kelsey Hayes Co.) where he was senior manager, industrial relations. He served on the board of directors of several organizations and was involved in many community activities.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; two daughters, Kelli Rhodes and Sherri (Cort) Schepeler and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 9, 2003, from Wetherby Funeral Home in Jackson, intermenty Roseland Memorial Gardens.
Craig Patrick Schepeler
Craig Patrick Schepeler, age 49, of Troy and formerly of Jackson, passed away on June 20, 2003.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosanne. He is survived by his wife, Koren; two daughters, Christine and Courtney; father, Cortlandt; brother, Bruce (Terry) Schepeler; sisters, Cindy (Patrick) Stieber, Diane (David) Holmes and Martie (Timothy) Dwyer; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Parkside High School where he was an excellent student and athlete. He later received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Michigan and worked for computer companies like IBM, where he was both an employee and consultant.
A farewell gathering was held in Jackson at Wetherby Funeral Home and at The Oaks Clubhouse.
Dorothy Jane Bahlau
Dorothy Jane Bahlau died June 18, 2003. She was born on April 28, 1924 and was preceded in death by her mother and father, Grace and Ross Hoyt and her only sister, Olive Ward. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Fredrick A. Bahlau and their three sons and wives: Rick and Kathy Bahlau, Randy and Amy Bahlau, Dan and Joanne Bahlau and their children: Todd, Troy, Brian, Ashley, Cody, Colter, Drew, Zak, Seth and Dakota. In addition to the grandchildren there are five great grandchildren.
She was partners in life as well as in business with her husband Fred, owning and operating the Stagecoach Stop and the Golden Nugget Restaurant located in the Irish Hills. A big part of Dorothy's life was devoted to the development of tourism in the Irish Hills, working together as a family, and community service, as she employed countless employees over the years at both Stagecoach and the Golden Nugget.
Funeral services were held at the Wetherby Funeral Home in Jackson on Monday, June 23. A special scholarship fund will be set up in her name for Hotel and Restaurant Management Students, in lieu of flowers. Donations can be made at the Wetherby Funeral Home at any time.
A celebration of Dorothy's life was held at the Golden Nugget Restaurant in the Irish Hills directly following the services.
Rodney R. Miller
Rodney R. Miller, age 42, of North Adams passed away on Monday, June 9, 2003 at his home.
Evelyn L. Munsell
Evelyn L. Munsell, age 75, of Clarklake, went to be with her Lord, June 12, 2003. Born at Jackson on June 21, 1927, the eldest daughter of Lewis and Dorothy (Alwine) Myers. On September 11, 1949 at Clarklake, she was married to Norman Munsell and he preceded her in death as well as one sister, Jeanne Creger.
Surviving are three children, Carman (Kay) Munsell of Clarklake, David Munsell of Joliet, IL and Brenda Shepherd of Clarklake; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Reniger of Somerset Center; several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a loving mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and intermenty will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson. Memorial services will be held at the Clarklake Community Church, where Evelyn was a member, on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Clyde Wonders officiating. For those who wish, contributions to the Clarklake Community Church in Evelyn's memory would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Nichols-Arthur Funeral Home, Michigan Center.
Laura M. Kerr
Laura M. Kerr, of Onsted, age 78 years, passed away Monday, June 16, 2003 at her home. She was born on April 4, 1925, the daughter of John F. and Mae (Harrington) Peters. Laura married Lester Jay Kerr on July 3, 1957. They made Lenawee County their home most of their lives except for a three-year period when they lived up north in Evart. Lester preceded Laura in death on Jan. 21, 1978.
Laura is survived by one daughter, Ruth Higgins of Onsted; three grandchildren, Derald (Julie) Higgins of Jonesville, Trina L. Higgins of Onsted and Tonia M. Higgins of Somerset; seven great grandchildren, Matthew, Lona, Dustin, Crosheena, Toney, Tracy and Christopher; stepdaughters, Shirley Bentley and Sharon King; stepsons, Allen Kerr and Gerald Kerr; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; stepdaughter, Connie Bernath; stepson, Ronald Kerr; brothers, Fred, Leo and Louis; and sisters, Esther, Helen, Clara and Elsie.
Funeral services for Laura will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted with Bart Tinder officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Shade Cemetery in Onsted. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Lenawee or American Cancer Society.
Max Kay
Max Kay, age 78, of Brooklyn passed away at the Jackson County Medical Care Facility on June 4, 2003. He was born in Brooklyn, the son of John and Hazel Emma (Heck) Kay. Max married Ruby Durden and she preceded him in death on January 27, 2003.
Max was a veteran from the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Brooklyn Masons Lodge #169, and formerly the Columbia Township Fire Department. He was employed with Donohoe Chevrolet and later with ADT in Jackson before becoming a landlord in Brooklyn. Max loved staying at his cabin at Baltic Bay in Canada.
Survivors include his sons, Gary (Joann) Kay of Brooklyn, Carl (Betty) Kay and David (Cheryl) Kay of Saginaw; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Besides his wife, his brother preceded him in death.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Borek Jennings Funeral Home, DeJeu Chapel, Brooklyn.
Esther F. Mannin
Esther F. Mannin, 91, of Jackson, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sept. 11, 2003. She was born on May 21, 1912 in Freemont, Ohio and was a longtime resident of Clarklake. She was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gorham C. Mannin of 56 years; one daughter, Deborah; and her parents, Lawrence and Grace Casey.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Judy) Mannin of Clarklake; daughter, Barbara (Richard) Eby of Jackson; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Shannon) Hamilton, Elizabeth Eby, Joshua Mannin, Richard Eby and Sean Mannin; and five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Nicole, Zaden, Kaia and Mackinzee.
Services were held Monday at Wetherby Chapel with Dr. James Hegedus officiating. Interment took place in Woodland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wetherby Funeral Home in Jackson.
James M. Crabtree
James M. Crabtree, age 66 of Addison, died on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003 at his home.
Donald I. McCloskey
Donald I. McCloskey, age 72 years, of Dewey Lake, Brooklyn, passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 at his home. He was born April 18, 1931 in Patton, Pa., the son of John and Margaret (Kayden) McCloskey. He was a veteran of the Korean War and lived at Dewey Lake since 1975, coming from Detroit.
He married Jean C. Zimmer on Sept. 26, 1956 at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Detroit. She preceded him in death on June 2, 1999. Donald was employed as a prison guard at the Huron Valley Mens Facility at Milan. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Shrine in the Irish Hills, a former member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed traveling with his grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters, Sharon (Norman) Young of Onsted, Lynne (Ronald) Richards of Manitou Beach, Donna (Peter Varga) McCloskey of Jackson and Kim (Dean) Sayler of Adrian; four sons, Kenneth McCloskey of Cement City, James (Cynthia) McCloskey of Rollin, Paul McCloskey of Brooklyn and Christopher (Lisa) McCloskey of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one great-grandson and by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Shrine in the Irish Hills with the Rev. Carl Simon officiating. Interment will be made in the St. Joseph Shrine Cemetery and Military Rites provided by the Durkee-Seager Post #550 of the American Legion of Onsted. Visitation was Sunday and Monday at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted where a Scripture Service was held on Monday.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Hospice of Lenawee.

Richard E. Parker, age 68 of Rollin Township, died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian.
