Donna Marie Mall
Donna Marie Mall, age 57, of Montgomery, formerly of Norvell, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at W. A. Foote Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was born on Nov. 22, 1946 in Highland Park, Mich., the daughter of William and Margaret Goldsborough. She was a 1964 graduate of Fordson High School in Dearborn. She married Richard J. Mall on June 21, 1974 and he survives. She had belonged to the Norvell Lake Association.
Surviving besides her husband are her son, Steve L. Nemeth of Westland; sister, Deanna Bell of Concord; and brother, Robert Goldsborough of Norvell.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at the George White Funeral Home in Reading with Father Thomas Butler officiating. Interment followed in Maplewood Cemetery in Reading.
Charles Herbert Denton Jr.
Charles Herbert Denton Jr., a former Brooklyn resident, died on Nov. 24, 2003 in Grayling at the age of 69.
Amy Janine (Hartsuff) Whitaker
Amy Janine (Hartsuff) Whitaker, Michigan University and pursued a journalism career, which included newspaper writing for The Brooklyn Exponent, editor of the Parma West County Press, editor of the Indiana; three sisters, Ruth Shewman of Jackson, Joyce Nichols of Washington; 10 grandchildren, Lincoln (Richelle) Cheetham of Montana, Stoney (Christy) Burke of Cement City, Kurtis Cheetham of Florida, Andrew Etsler of Ohio, Kate Moore of North Dakota, Austin Cheetham of Florida and Alex Riggs of Michigan Center. The Rev. Loyal Wiemer will officiate and Interment will be at the Cement City Cemetery.
Mrs. Cheetham valued education and shared her lifelong love of reading with all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Lois Cheetham Educational Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice. Please sent donations for the scholarship fund to Flagstar Bank, 301 Main St., Brooklyn, Michigan Retired Teachers Association member. June loved all church activities.
She is survived by her two sons, Kim and Gay Beal of Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted. Interment will be made in North Rome Cemetery in Manitou Beach. Memorials are suggested to the North Rome Baptist Church or the Maple Avenue Bible Church and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Wallace J. Duffy
Wallace J. Duffy, of Clarklake, passed away Nov. 20, 2003 at age 68. He retired from Consumers Energy and was in the heating and cooling business for more than 50 years. He loved the farm life, shared his sons' passion for sprint cars, attended the National Heavyweight Horse Pulls in Hillsdale every year and was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Helen; two sons, Michael Duffy of Clarklake and Daniel (Lori) Duffy of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Janet (David) Chamberlain of Jackson; his father, Leo Duffy of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Duffy.
A memorial service was held at Watson Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson on Monday with Pastor Fritz Kruse and Pastor Floyd Jewett officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice.
Viola C. Weide
Viola C. Weide, age 75 of Somerset Center, passed away Nov. 17, 2003 at W. A. Foote Memorial Hospital. Viola was born Aug. 19, 1928 in Detroit, the daughter of Stephen and Anna Mary (Binert) Ryba. She married Russell Weide on Aug. 23, 1947 and he preceded her in death earlier this year on July 30, 2003. Viola is survived by her children, James (Jill) Weide of Addison, Gregory Weide of Somerset Center, Eugene (Kathy Walther) Weide of Sterling, David Weide and Brenda Pfund of Somerset Center, Diane (Larry) Kellenberger of Jonesville; 11 grandchildren; and her sister, Delphine Moore. Mrs. Weide was preceded in death by her son, Michael in 1971 and her sister, Rose Normandin. A Celebration of Viola's life was held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 with prayers at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Rita Catholic Church where Father Lehr Barkenquest officiated.
Memorials may be given to the Ohio, the son of Karl M. and Louise M. (Cook) Niswander. He graduated from Columbus Grove High School in 1959. Larry attended Ohio, and she survives. His work in the plastic industry brought him and his family to the Onsted area in 1978.
Larry was very active in the community and his church. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of the Irish Hills where he was an elder and treasurer. He was a member of Kiwanis where he served as treasurer for many years, Devils Lake Yacht Club, Society of Plastic Engineers, National Threshers Association and Experimental Aircraft Association. Larry loved sailing, flying and John Deere tractors.
Surviving Larry is his loving wife, Karen, of 39 years; daughter, Erika and Dan Kope and three granddaughters, Sarah, Jennifer and Allison Kope of Addison; brother Ronald and Eliane Niswander of Oracle, Ariz.; sister, Rachel Schaadt of Decatur, Ind.; two nephews, two nieces and one great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Gerald Schaadt.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at St. Mark Lutheran Church of the Irish Hills with Pastor Kelly Smith officiating. Visitation was held at the Bradford and Michael Pease, also of the Cape; two sisters, Carolyn Reed and her husband Howard, and Marilyn Williams whose husband James is deceased; brother, Lee Wilbur and his wife Pat (Goddard); and numerous friends, cousins, nieces and nephews and loved and respected by many others.
A graduate of Purdue University and a veteran of the Navy in World War II, he worked as a cereal chemist and ultimately retired from Dawn Food Products after 20 years in quality control and research and development at the Jackson plant. He was an active member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church for the past 30 years, serving as an elder, prayer group and Bible study leader. He did so much for so many - he always had time to help someone in need - and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial service, led by Rev. Robert Malsack, will be held at noon on Friday, November 21, at the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church with Dean's family receiving friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 176, Brooklyn, Mich., 49230. Arrangement by Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel (592-2280).
Frederick W. Taylor
Frederick W. Taylor, age 87, of Napoleon, passed away in Branson, Mo., Nov. 14, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jacquelyn J.; four daughters, Diana (Jim) Redman, Sandy (Tom) Nelson, Cindy (Mike) Sonnenberg and Natalie (Larry) DeRousse; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was a retiree of Clark Equipment with 43 years of service; life member of the Jackson Shrine Club; past Chaplain of the Jackson Scottish Rite; past Chaplain and past Worshipful Master of Napoleon Lodge No. 301 Free and Accepted Masons; and in 2001 was the Napoleon Lodge and Jackson County Mason of the Year; and member of the Napoleon United Methodist Church.
In his retirement, he and his wife loved to work in the yard and travel. Services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, noon with the Rev. Robert Freysinger officiating. Interment will be at Roseland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with Masonic Memorial Honors at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Masonic DeMoley or charity of the giver's choice.
Shyrl Mitchell
Shyrl Mitchell, age 37 years, of Tipton, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at home after an extremely courageous and strong battle with cancer. She was a member of the Long Lick Baptist Church at Stamping Ground, Ky., and was baptized Aug. 31, 2003 in Elk Horn Creek.
She was born June 24, 1966 in Jackson, the daughter of Woodrow and Virginia (Wright) Butler. She was a 1984 graduate of Leslie High School and was employed in the home health care field. She married David Mitchell on Dec. 26, 1995 in Gorham Baptist Church in Jackson and he survives. Also surviving are her parents, Virginia Butler and adoptive father, John Warner of Tipton; three children, Brandon Butler and his fiancée Brittany Terwilliger of Tipton, Terry Petrie and Ashley Petrie, both of Tipton; her sisters, Diana Campbell (Hodson) and Robert Hodson and Lana Blair, both of Jackson; close friend and good caregiver, L.G. Adams; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and loved and cherished by many others. She was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, in the Florida; his second wife, Sharon (Coffman) Condra of Brooklyn; her children, Michael (Ellen) Coffman of Milford, Cheryl (Earl) Nuckolls of Howell, Cynthia (Jim) Lester of Grass Lake and Linda (John) Wyne of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild; two brothers Robert Condra and William (Mary Jo) Condra all of Indianapolis, Ind.
A celebration of Jack's life was held on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003 at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Robert Malsack officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
