Illa I. McNally
Illa I. McNally, age 89 of Liberty Township passed away Monday, March 8, 2004. She was born January 22, 1915 in Crown Point, Ind. the daughter of Roy and Myrtle (Hoffman) Gawthrop.
She married Harry McNally, Sr. May 9, 1932 in Detroit and he survives. Illa is also survived by two sons, Harry (Gerry) McNally, Jr. of Jackson and William (Sadie) McNally of Liberty Township; daughter, Margo (Milo) Hawlett of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one brother, Donald Gawthrop; and one sister, Betty Taylor.
Illa was a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons: John and Thomas McNally; and 3 brothers: Albert, Glen and Jack Gawthrop.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
The funeral was held on Thursday, March 11, at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert Malsack officiating.
Theresa Margaret Cabay
Theresa Margaret Cabay, age 68, of Brooklyn passed away at home on March 3, 2004. Theresa was born in Craigmore, Inverness County, Nova Scotia on October 14, 1935, the daughter of the late Angus and Christy (MacNeil) MacEachern. She married Frank Cabay on May 4, 1957 in Detroit and he survives. Mrs. Cabay was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Sandbaggers Golf League and the Newcomer's Club.
Besides her husband and Mother, survivors include her daughters, Linda (Jim) Morrison of Franklin, Mich., Carol (Joe) Schmitt of Allen Park, Mich., Donna (Russ) Brown of Bloomfield Village, Mich., Nancy Parker of Richmond, Va. and Ann (Michael) Walsh of Ridgewood, NJ.; grandchildren, Derik, Ellen, Claire, Karl, Leah, Maggie, Anna, Chas, Kit, Wes, Caitlin, Owen, Hayes, Lily and Caleb; sisters, Elizabeth (Berney) Smith of Bedford, Nova Scotia, Almira O'Brien of Long Point, Nova Scotia and Aneas (James) MacEachern of Harrietsfield, Nova Scotia; brothers, Joseph of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Steve (Valerie) of Kincardine, Ontario, Hughie (Alice), Alex (Betty), Angus (Marian), Jerry (Helena) all of Craigmore, Nova Scotia, Willie (Rose) of Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia and Dougie (Helen) of Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Isabelle; and brothers, Dougald, Johnnie and Angus Beaton.
A celebration of Theresa's life was held on March 6, with Father Lehr Barkenquest officiating. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson and Oaklawn. Envelopes are available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home.
Patricia E. Filter
Patricia E. Filter, age 46, formerly of Onsted, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at W. A. Foote Memorial Hospital in Jackson. Patricia was born in Tecumseh, Mich. on Nov. 6, 1957, the daughter of Charles and Donna Uphold. She attended Addison Area Schools, and was formerly employed by Lynwood Manor in Adrian as a bookkeeper, also working as a cashier throughout the years. Most of her life was spent in Onsted and Devils Lake area.
She married Richard M. Filter in September of 1978 in Denver, Colorado, and he survives. Patricia was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. She enjoyed baking and attending movies, and especially enjoyed spending time with her boys.
Surviving besides her ex-husband Richard, are two sons, Matthew and Joshua, both at home; two brothers, Terry Uphold and David Uphold; and one sister, Joan. She was preceded in death by her parents. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at North Rome Cemetery, Rome Township in Lenawee County, with Pastor Keith W. Porter officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home of Onsted.
Richard C. Bolenbaugh
Richard C. Bolenbaugh, age 33 of Jackson, formerly of Addison, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at his home. He was born on April 2, 1970 in Hillsdale, Mich. to Charles R. and Linda L. (Ames) Bolenbaugh. Richard lived in the Addison area all his life and then moved to Jackson three months ago. He graduated from Addison High School in 1988 where he played football and baseball. He was employed by Dysert Concrete Company of Jackson. Richard was a member of the A.M.A. and the M.R.A. Motocross Associations where he was an avid motocross racer; he also enjoyed golf.
Surviving besides his parents Charles and Linda Bolenbaugh of Hudson; are his girl friend, Tammi Oshea of Jackson; his son, Rieder C. Bolenbaugh of Jackson; one sister, Lynette Bolenbaugh-Francis of Reading; one brother, Randy Bolenbaugh of Hudson; paternal grandmother, Arlie Bolenbaugh of Hudson; maternal grandparents, John and Delores Ames-Hawkins of Jackson; one nephew, Zachary A. Francis of Reading; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by paternal grandfather Clark D. Bolenbaugh and maternal grandfather Harold J. Ames.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Pastor Terry Alverson officiating. Burial was in Green's Lakeside Cemetery in Manitou Beach.
Leon S. Dermyer
Leon S. Dermyer, age 93, of Brooklyn died February 21, 2004 at the Lynwood Manor in Adrian. He was born the son of Christian and Pauline (Pfeiffle) Dermyer on November 10, 1910 in Brooklyn. Leon was a member of the Brooklyn High School Class of 1930. He married Beatrice Brown on June 1, 1952. They later moved to Punta Gorda, Florida in May 1974. She passed away there in August of 1994 and Leon returned to Michigan in July of 2001.
Mr. Dermyer is survived by his great nephew, Dean Dermyer; great niece, Ida Dermyer; great nephews, David, Matthew and Marc Dermyer. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Ruth Dermyer; and two sisters, Elma and Edna.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one's choice.
Gary R. Reed
Gary R. Reed passed away suddenly February 23, 2004, at the age of 62 in his home at Pelkie, Michigan, dying as he lived, enjoying a good novel.
Gary lived most of his life at the family homestead at Clark Lake. He attended high school at Cement City, later enlisting in the National Guard. Retiring from Ford Motor Company in Saline after 30 years, he bought a farm in Pelkie where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Evalyne Swartout and G. Raynor Reed and a brother Phillip Michael. Gary leaves behind his brothers, Larry (Sharon) Reed of Clark Lake, Tom (Felice) Reed of Dewitt and his sister Noreen (Jim) Abercrombie of Baraga along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, many friends and a special aunt and uncle.
Gary has been cremated according to his wishes and a memorial service will be held at a later date at Clark Lake.
Charles Emerson Kendall
Charles Emerson "Chuck" Kendall, age 73, of Brooklyn passed away on February 17, 2004 at W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 11, 1930 in Wabash, Ind. The son of Charles and Mary (Burns) Kendall, Sr. Chuck married Betty Conant on February 13, 1951 in Napoleon at the Napoleon Methodist Church and she survives. Chuck was a member of the Brooklyn Baptist Church. He served his country in the U. S. Marines during the Korean Conflict.
Besides his loving wife of 53 years, Chuck is survived by his children, Charles Kendall III of Napoleon, Kathy (Bill) TenEyck of Gregory and Lynda (Mike) Myers of Cement City; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two brothers, Edward (Donna) Kendall and Tom (Pat) Kendall; and one sister, Helen Cannon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
According to Chuck's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on Friday, February 20, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Brooklyn with Pastor Raymond Bruce officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church in Brooklyn. Arrangements entrusted to the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel.
Murray W. Hess II
Murray W. Hess II, of Brooklyn, age 90, died February 19, 2004 at Heartland Health Care Center in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was born August 24, 1913 in Napoleon, the son of Burr T. and Myrtie G. (Runyan) Hess. Murray married Mary Rueckert on October 15, 1938 and she preceded him in death on November 17, 1999.
Murray was a farmer and land developer of the west end of Wamplers Lake. He also hauled milk and lime for local farmers. He was a former member of the 1st Baptist Church of Brooklyn, a member of Gateway Community Church (Onsted Baptist Church) and the Gideons International.
He is survived by their four children, Nancy Ann (James) Green of San Clemente, Calif., Wilma (Dennis) Forsythe of Grand Rapids, Mich., Barbara J. (Otto) Keyes of Moscow, Idaho and Murray III (Donna) of Denver, Col.; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Carroll and Roy Hess.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Gateway Community Church with his son-in-law James Green officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Gideons International or the Jesus Film Project. Envelopes will be available at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn.
Muriel M. Montgomery
Muriel M. Montgomery, age 60, of Woodstock Twp., Mich. passed away on Friday, February 20, 2004 at her home. Muriel was born May 26, 1943 in Kingsford, Mich., the daughter of Arthur E. and Marguerite F. (Dumais) Fournier. She married Miller J. Montgomery on August 24, 1991 in Roseville, Mich.
She is survived by her husband, Miller J. Montgomery; children, Jerry (Donna Miller) Duncan of Addison, Tina (Anthony) Valentine of Harper Woods and Kenneth (Kalyn) Horney of St. Clair Shores; one brother, Norman (Christine) Fournier of Roseville, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Fournier of Watervliet and Susan Fournier of Big Rapids, Mich.; and 6 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Darlene Trepanier and Sharon Person and two brothers, Jack and Arthur E. Fournier. She was an avid Euchre player enjoying clubs at the Eagles and American Legion in Brooklyn.
A celebration of Muriel's life will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn with Rev. Arvid Northrop officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the family for future designation.
Leon S. Dermyer
Leon S. Dermyer, age 94, passed away February 21, 2004 in Adrian. He was born in Brooklyn, Michigan on November 10, 1910 to Christian and Pauline Dermyer. Leon farmed most of his life in the Brooklyn area before moving to Florida in 1974.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; two sisters, Edna and Alma; and one brother, Raymond. He is survived by a nephew Dean Dermyer, grand nephews David, Matthew and Marc Dermyer. Per his request cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
