Neil F. Haarer
Neil F. Haarer, 63, of Brooklyn (formerly of Saline), passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004.
He was born to Clarence and Helen (Wurster) Haarer on March 26, 1941 in Ann Arbor, Mich. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Paula; daughters, Jill (Scott) Vanderboegh of Auburn, Neb. and Debbie (Bruce) Malinczak of Onsted, two grandchildren and a brother, C. Gerald (Jean) Haarer of Bonita Springs, Fla, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
For many years Neil owned and operated Haarer's Meat Processing in Saline, He was involved in farming and raised many prized beef animals. The Haarer's herd was recognized for several years at the Washington, Jackson. The service will be at 3 p.m. with visitation with the family between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Rev. James Roberts will officiate at the memorial service.

Richard A. McCumber (see note after the obituary)
Richard A. "Dick" McCumber, 78, passed away peacefully at his Lake Columbia home on Monday, June 14, 2004. He was born March 26, 1926 at Jackson to Wallace and Ruth (Mills) McCumber.
A member of the Napoleon High School class of 1944. he joined the Army Air Force in March of 1944, gaining rank of Sergeant, serving as a ball turret gunner in B-17s.
He was a member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, and the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics. Most of his life was dedicated to the prosthetic profession, such as working for Wright & Fillipis in Detroit, 18 years as Director of Prosthetics at the University of Arizona) Limb and Brace, D & M Limb and Brace, Director of Prosthetics at Becker Orthopedics in Lincoln Park, owner of McCumber Prosthetics in Muskegon, and in retirement as consultant for Becker Orthopedics in Allen Park.
Dick is survived by his wife of 40 years, Terry; seven children, Lynn (Steven) Pawlowski of Brooklyn, Lisa Greer of Ann Arbor, Kelly Reckendorf of Fort Worth, Calif., Diana Braun of Scottsdale, Ariz., David (Joni) Kamke of Jackson and Doug McCumber of Gaylord; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Walter (Euna) McCumber of Jackson and Donald (Mary) McCumber of Clarklake; and one sister, Barbara (Brent) Beamish of Lake Columbia.
As was his request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Kamke officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until service time. Military honors will be provided courtesy of the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team.

Rev. Loyal H. (Bud) Wiemer
Rev. Loyal H. (Bud) Wiemer, aged 89, of Clarklake, passed away June 8, 2004 at W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lola M., two children, Douglas (Sue) Wiemer of Toledo and Carol Omo of Clarklake, five grandchildren, David (Beth) Wiemer, Elizabeth (Kurt) Freeman, and Daniel, Mark and Randy Omo, eight great-grandchildren and his sister Marion Young.
He was the minister at the Clarklake Community Church from 1963 to 1979 and served as Pastor Emeritus of the Church up to his death, was a Charter Member of the Clarklake Lions Club and a three term County Commissioner from the Clarklake area. He officiated in his career at over one thousand weddings and hundreds of funerals and baptisms. He was also a bus driver for the Columbia School District, a correspondent for the Brooklyn Exponent, served on the United Way, Interfaith Council and was chaplain for local hospitals and care homes.
Visitation was held at the Nichols-Arthur Funeral Home in Ohio, the son of William C. and Cary A. (Lewis) Copsey. He graduated from Fostoria High School in 1934. He married Emma Jane Trego on October 4, 1939 in Bainbridge, Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted with Pastor Tom McMichael officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Shade Cemetery in Onsted. Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 20 at Michigan, passed away Friday, July 16, 2004 at her residence. She was born February 19, 1957 in Texas and her husband Christopher Madsen of Brooklyn; one son, John Carson Wilson II of North Richland Hills, Michigan Center; one niece, Kelly Campbell of Michigan Center and by her step-father, Samuel Michael Iglicki of Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother Ronald O'Neal Emerson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, in the Michigan Legislative Corrections Ombudsman as an investigator, Past President of Brooklyn Kiwanis, Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, member of American Legion Post #225 and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart.
He was the precious husband of Jennifer for 27 years, loving father to four children, Angela (Denis) Bowen of Florida; aunt, Judith Ruolo of Allen Park; father-in-law, Richard Morris of Clarklake; brother-in-law, Richard (Jackie) Morris of Michigan Center; many loving nieces and nephews; and special friends, Beth Gilbert, Barbara Barnum and Essie Garlington.
Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Nichols-Arthur Funeral Home, 820 Fifth Street in Illinois, 60640, http://www.inspirationcorp.org/. This cause was near and dear to his heart. Veterans Honors will be offered by the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team.
Terry L. Barrows
Terry L. Barrows, 41, of Manitou Beach died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at home. She was born April 17, 1963 in Tecumseh, the daughter of Tom and Linda (Rosenberg) Walker.
Terry was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a Past 4-H Leader, Past Brownie Troop Leader, and worked at Christ Centered Homes in Adrian. She was a graduate of Clinton High School, Class of 1981.
Terry is survived by her parents, Tom and Linda Walker of Clinton; one son, Brett J. Barrows of Manitou Beach; one daughter, Breeana L. Barrows of Manitou Beach; close friend, Rick Davis of Manitou Beach; two sisters, Christine (Ken) Caligiuri of Findlay, Price of Brooklyn; three nephews, Ryan, Scott, and Walker; and two nieces, Jewel and Abby.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday July 10, 2004 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pastor Kelly Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for an educational fund for her children, Brett and Breeana. Arrangements were entrusted to Couture-Handler Funeral Homes.
Cortlandt W. Schepeler
Cortlandt W. Schepeler of Jackson, Mich., and Vero Beach, Fla., died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 9, 2004, in Jackson, surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old. Born in Brooklyn, Mich., he attended the University of Michigan before enlisting in the United States Navy, serving four years during World War II. He worked for Aeroquip Corporation for 36 years, the last 20 as Director of Personnel Relations (worldwide).
He was an avid golfer, a member of both the Indian River Club (Vero Beach) and the Country Club of Jackson (serving as President in 1979). He was involved in many Jackson area civic functions, including the United Way, of which he served as President in the 1970's. Mr. Schepeler was preceded in death by his wife, Rosanne; son, Craig; sister, Frances (Loebs) and brother, Bill. Surviving him is son, Bruce (Terry) of Lake Orion, Mich.; daughters, Cindy (Pat) Stieber of Jackson, Diane (David) Holmes of Madison, Wis., Martie (Tim) Dwyer of Kingston, Mass.; and ten grandchildren, Logan and Carlee Schepeler, Christine and Courtney Schepeler, Nick and John and Allyson Stieber and Cameron, Lexi and Lauren Dwyer. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 22, 3 p.m. at the Cascades Manor House. In lieu of gifts, contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 103 South Jackson Street, Jackson, Mich. 49201-2254.
