Ernest P. Clement
Ernest P. Clement, age 70, of Brooklyn, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at his home under the loving care of his family. He was born Jan. 29, 1934, in Detroit the son of Ernest and Grace (Berger) Clement. He married Shirley Ann Bedford on June 15, 1964 in Alpena and she survives. Besides his wife of 40 years, Ernest is also survived by his children, Steve (Jane) Clement of Brooklyn, Barbara (Mark) Fields of Pueblo, Colo., Deborah Aguinaga of North Tanawanda, N.Y., Joseph Cook of Capac, Mich., Dean Cook of Wheatridge, Colo.; brother, Francis (Leona) Clement of Warren, Mich.; sister, Mary of Detroit, Mich.; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ernest worked for R.L. Coolseat retiring in 1994 and was also a member of the Laborers Union Local 1191. A celebration of his life took place on Saturday with Father Paul Ruddy officiating at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Lenawee and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Ralph E. Bailey
Ralph E. Bailey age 76, of Brooklyn, formerly of Zanesville and Duncan Falls, Ohio passed away Nov. 22, 2004 at W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Bailey was born on May 8, 1928 in Zanesville, the son of Edward and Margaret (Evans) Bailey. He married Minnie McKellips on Sept. 30, 1950 in Angola, Ind. and she survives. Ralph was a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church and past member of Brooklyn Kiwanis. Ralph was also involved in the Lion's Club, Boy Scouts and was a volunteer firefighter in Duncan Falls, Ohio. He was also a member of National Professional Engineers, a mentor to many pursuing higher education and was a very avid golfer.
Besides his wife of 54 years, survivors include his children, Roger E. (Teresa) Bailey of Waco, Texas, Linda S. Bailey of Grand Rapids and Ted E. (Dawn) Bailey of Brooklyn; sister, Juanita (Dale) Mautz; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray; sister, Mary Ann in infancy; and granddaughter, Rebecca.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, November 27, at 3 p.m. at the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Robert Malsack officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Parkinson's Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel.
James S. Hoddinott
James S. Hoddinott, 76 of Manitou Beach passed away on Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1928 in Lodi, Ohio to Aubrey G. and Violet P. (Gray) Hoddinott. Jim lived his early life in Sharon Center, Ohio, then in Wadsworth, Ohio for four years. He then lived in Genoa, Ohio, for 25 years, and then the past 26 years at Devils Lake.
He married Barbara Ann Miller on June 24, 1951 in North Canton, Ohio, and she survives.
He graduated from Wadsworth High School in Wadsworth, Ohio, attended Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and then graduated from Westcoast University in Glendale, Calif. Jim was a Watch Maker and he retired from GTE in 1985 after 31 years. He was a member of the Devils Lake Yacht Club where he was past Commodore.
Surviving besides his wife are one daughter, Sally (Robert) Kruger of Morenci, and one granddaughter, Courtney Kruger.
Upon Jim's request, his body will be donated to the University of Michigan Medical School. There will be no services. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.
He fought the good fight before going into that good night.

Margaret L. Barry
Margaret L. Barry, 59 of Pittsford, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
She was born on December 1, 1944 in Wauseon, Ohio to Willard Milliman and Betty Stoops. She married Walter D. Barry on February 8, 1961 in Hudson, and he survives. Margaret was raised in Waldron and then moved to the Pittsford area in 1961. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and buying presents for her grandchildren.
Besides her husband Walter, she is survived by two daughters, Teresa (Jody) Bloomer of Addison, Tina (Matt) Dawson of Hillsdale; two sons, Walt (Dana) Barry of Douglasville, Ga. and Greg (Jeanette) Barry of Holland, Mich.; ten grandchildren; Denea Barry, Nate Bloomer, Derek Bloomer, Mitchell Barry, Amanda Barry, Avery Barry, Emily Dawson, Grant Barry, Sarah Dawson, and Luke Dawson; three sisters; Susan (Butch) Leininger of Oklahoma, Cheryl (Paul) Shaffer of Fayette, Ohio, Pat (Pete) Lavinder of Fayette, Ohio, her father and step-mother; Willard (Blanche) Milliman of Hillsdale, her mother; Betty Kline of Fayette, Ohio, three step-brothers; Lonnie (Diane) Milliman of Hudson, Larry (Jenielle) Milliman of Knoxville, Tenn., Ronnie (Candi) Milliman of Kalamazoo, Mich., one step sister, Bonnie (Donnie) Dietz of Hillsdale, Mich. She is preceded in death by her step-father, Nelson Kline.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Rev. Clyde L. Wonders officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Addison Athletic Booster Club.
Vera Irene Risner
Vera Irene Risner, age 84 years, of St. Clair, Michigan, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004 in the Medilodge of St. Clair at Saint Clair, Michigan. She was born March 15, 1920 in Adrian, Mich., the daughter of Melvin and Addie (McKimmy) Corbin. She lived most of her life in the Manitou Beach area before moving to Rome Center in 1997 and to St. Clair in 1998.She attended Morenci and Ridgeway Schools and graduated from Adrian High School in 1982. She married Otto Louis Risner on April 30, 1938 in Goshen, Ind. He preceded in death Feb. 24, 1987. She was a life member of the Southern Michigan Coon Hunters Association, the Addison and Onsted Senior Citizens, was an avid Euchre player and enjoyed Yatzee, Scrabble and bingo.
Surviving are her five daughters, Ardena (Dwight) Palmer of Crossville, Tenn., Lois Matthews of Imlay City, Darleen Hardwick of Hillsboro, Tenn., Leona Risner of Adrian and Leota (Fred) Jacobs of Clayton; one son, Marvin Risner of Kimball; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Sharon Frayer and Lona Hammond; three granddaughters, Cora Lee Willis, Cindy Spencer and Anna Hardwick; two brothers Cecil and Wilbur Corbin; and four sisters, Thelma Shove, Opal Losey, Elva Pifer and Wilma Kitner; and by a son-in-law, Arthur Hardwick.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted. Interment will be made in the North Rome Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Clifford E. "Lum" Parkhurst
Clifford E. "Lum" Parkhurst age 67 years, of Onsted, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 in the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.
He was born August 11, 1937 in Onsted, the son of Lynn and Sylvia (Hendershot) Parkhurst. He was a lifelong resident of the Onsted area and attended the former Wooden School. He married Janet Jean Patterson in December of 1958 in Palmyra. She preceded in death July 9, 1997. Clifford was a retired machinist at Tecumseh Products Co. and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his children, Brian (Linda) Parkhurst of Brooklyn, Brenda Parkhurst and Joe Largay of Gainsville, Fla., Barbara (Douglas) Lerch of Onsted and Bill (Katy) Parkhurst of Manitou Beach; grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan, Amanda and Stacie; step-grandchildren, Joseph, Justin and Bradley and by his sister, Donna Jean (Leonard) Walker of Manitou Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and by three brothers.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 22, in the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted with Rev. Fritz Kruse officiating. Interment was in the Woodstock-Sanford Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the University of Michigan Transplant Unit.
Cindy (McKinney) Spillane
Cindy L. (McKinney) Spillane of Polk City, Florida, died of ovarian cancer Sunday, October 31, 2004 at home. She was 43.
Born in Jackson, Mich. on March 25, 1961, she moved to Polk City from Cement City in 1992.
Mrs. Spillane is survived by her husband, Philip A. Spillane; daughters, Denyelle D'Aveta of Albany, Ga., Kelli M. Spillane of Polk City; son, Philip A. Spillane II of Cherry Point, N.C.; parents, Benny and Mary Lou McKinney of Brooklyn; brothers, Clifford McKinney, Jim McKinney, both of Michigan; sisters, Carol Gepford, Kathy Burns Robinson, all of Michigan.
Cindy was a 1979 graduate of Columbia Central High School. She was formerly a sergeant in the Marine Corps and member of the Marine Corps League No. 1019. She was also a member of Faith Baptist Church in Polk City.
A memorial service will be held at Cement City Baptist Church on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cement City Baptist Church.
Helen Mae Vicary
Helen Mae Vicary, age 93, of Brooklyn, passed away Nov. 22, 2004, at the Brooklyn Living Center. Helen was born on July 29, 1911, in Spruce, Mich., the daughter of Samuel and Mae (Abbott) Piper. She married Claire Vicary on June 17, 1939, in Spruce and he preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1985. Mrs. Vicary was a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church and the Girl Scouts of America "Camp O' The Hills". She enjoyed camping, crafts and her cats, "Snowflake" and "Creampuff". She had been a resident of Brooklyn for 65 years.
Mrs. Vicary is survived by her children, Arthur (Beth) Vicary of Jackson and Margaret (Hal) March of Elmhurst, Ill.; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church. She will lie in state beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Malsack officiating. Memorial donations may be given to the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church or to Hospice of Jackson & Oaklawn. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, where family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Clarence L. Fielder
Clarence L. Fielder age 82, of Manchester passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at home under the loving care of his family.
He was born August 13, 1922 in Sharon Township the son of Frederick and Cecilia (Eder) Fielder. He married Margaret Feldkamp on Oct. 2, 1943 in Manchester and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Besides his parents and first wife, Clarence was preceded in death by his siblings, Norman, Donald and Audrey. Clarence married Elizabeth Tilden on Sept. 5, 1992 in Brooklyn and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Mary Frances, Ron (Sue) Fielder, Jim (MaryAnne) Fielder, Dick (Mary Ann) Fielder, Cecilia (Lynn) Niehaus, Pat (Mary) Fielder, Craig (Jane) Fielder, Curt (Barb) Fielder, Bernadette (Craig) Coltre all of Manchester; 18 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and five step-children.
Clarence served our country in WWII in the Army and was involved in many organizations including: Supervisor of Manchester Township, Manchester School Board Treasurer, Knights of Columbus-Grand Knight, President of Manchester United Way, President of Manchester Optimists, Manchester Family Service, St. Mary's Usher, Manchester Little League Coach, American Legion Member, Brooklyn Post #315, and was on the Board of Directors at Union Savings Bank. Clarence was co-owner of Manchester Tool & Die and Manchester Stamping. He retired in 1987.
A celebration of Clarence's life took place on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, beginning with prayers from the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Jenter Chapel in Manchester followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Tim Krzyzaniak officiating. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to Southern Care Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
