Harold William Koons
Harold William Koons of Brooklyn and Florida, age 78, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Westland, surrounded by his family. Mr. Koons was born July 10, 1926, in Decatur, Ill., the son of Wilber and Hazel (Edwards) Koons.
He is survived by his five children, Lawrence (Pamela) of Novi, Thomas of Brighton, Sharon (Anthony) Miele of Brighton, Richard (Linda) of Brooklyn and Deborah (Ronald) Shaw of Livonia; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Ollie) of Tecumseh and John (Francis) of Adrian; one sister, Wilma Bellman of Ypsilanti; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eloise Jannuzzi of Brooklyn and Wilber of Belleville. Harold was a salesman in Jackson and Lenawee counties for many years.
A memorial service for Harold will be held at noon on Feb. 5, 2005, at Parkview Memorial, 34205 Five Mile Rd. in Livonia, Mich. Edwin C. Parkhurst
Edwin C. Parkhurst, age 81 of Addison, passed away on Monday, Jan. 24, 2005 at his home. Born on March 19, 1923 in Addison, he was the son of Wayne and Beatrice (Bell) Parkhurst. He married Georgia J. Hudnutt on Aug. 14, 1948 in Manitou Beach and she survives.
Edwin lived all his life in the Manitou Beach-Addison area. He graduated from Addison High School in 1941. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the United States Army in the South Pacific for three years. He worked at Krieghoff-Lenawee for many years where he was a construction superintendent in the carpenters union, retiring in 1985. Three of the major building projects Edwin was involved in were the North Hall at Adrian College, Gleaner Life Insurance Company on US-223 and the Merillat Corporate Office also on US-223. He was a member of Post #118, American Legion, Addison, and he attended the Addison United Church.
Surviving besides his wife Georgia are three sons, Douglas (Susan) Parkhurst of Coldwater, Thomas (Brandy) Parkhurst of Manitou Beach and Tim (Deb) Parkhurst of Manitou Beach; one daughter, Debra (Gary) Granger of Mundelein, Ill.; six grandchildren, Greg Parkhurst, Shanna Navarre, Peter Granger, Laurel Parkhurst, Alaina Parkhurst and Joe Parkhurst; and one great-grandson, Ethan Parkhurst.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison with Pastor Keith W. Porter and Pastor Philip Jones officiating. Burial will be in Green's Lakeside Cemetery, Manitou Beach. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Lenawee or to the Youth Haven Ranch at Rives Junction, Mich.
Doris S. Collins-Tuxbury
Doris S. Collins-Tuxbury, age 54, of Cambridge Township, passed away at home on Jan. 24, 2005. She was born on June 6, 1950 in Pineville, Ky., the daughter of Ottis B. and Lorena (Goley) Collins. Doris married Bill Tuxbury in Brooklyn on Sep. 10, 1988 and he survives. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jackson and the Jackson Transplant Support Group. Doris was employed with the State of Michigan for 13 years until her retirement in 1992.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Collins-Tuxbury is survived by her children, Lorena Brunson of Tampa Bay, Fla., Kellie Whigham of Inkster, Mich., William Tuxbury of Dearborn, Mich.; six grandchildren; brother, Bruce (Elaine) Collins of Southgate, Mich.; sisters, Lois Collins of Kentucky; Patsy (Clarence) Collins of Gaylord, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Audrey.
Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Jackson Transplant Support Group For Gift of Life. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, Brooklyn, where family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be on Friday, where Mrs. Collins-Tuxbury will lie in state at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Douglas Krengel officiating.
Robert "Bob" Padley Sr.
Robert "Bob" Padley, Sr., age 70, passed away Jan. 17, 2005 at Chelsea Community Hospital. Mr. Padley was born Dec. 16, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Harold and Wilhelmina (Henne) Padley. He married Carol Gensler on Sept. 1, 1956 in Toledo and she survives. Bob was active in both the American Legion in Manchester and the Irish Hills Eagles in Brooklyn.
Besides his wife, Carol, he is survived by his children; Bonnie Padley (Tim John) of Brooklyn, Robert Jr. (Beth) Padley of Brooklyn and Doug Padley (Jorge Ramos) of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, Carina, Annette, Heather, William, Matthew, Anthony; brother, Harold (Jean) Padley of Oregon, Ohio. Mr. Padley was preceded in death by his brothers, Chester, Donald and Kenneth.
Memorial contributions may be given to ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, where family received friends on Thursday, January 20 with an evening prayer service and Fraternal Order of Eagles Service at 7 p.m. A celebration of life was held on Friday at the funeral home with Deacon Eugene Hausmann officiating.
Marilyn Montgomery
Marilyn Montgomery age 71, of Brooklyn passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2005. She was born June 29, 1933, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Vern and Bernadine (Kampf) Maitland. She married Donald Montgomery Sr. on June 5, 1954 in Jackson and he survives.
Marilyn is also survived by her children, Donald Jr. (Gina) of Spring Arbor, Darwin (Kathy) of Bradenton, Fla., Regina of Brooklyn, Andrew of South Padre Island, Texas and Kyle (Heather) of Jackson; five grandchildren, Korey, Michael, Kierstin, Zachary and Alyssa; brother, William (Doris) Maitland of Michigan Center and step-sister, Jean (Charles) Miles of Brooklyn. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Brian; and brother, Dennis Porter.
Marilyn was an avid bowler for 30 years, bowling for the Moose League, Manchester Women's League and Brooklyn Bowlerettes. She was also a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, a 40 year member of the Moose Club, a Girl Scout Leader and she served as Head of The Democratic Party in Jackson for John Kennedy's candidacy. Marilyn had a big heart for children who had troubled lives and took in and helped many of them. She was very involved for many years with Columbia Schools for the Athletic Department and as a Band Booster, headed many fundraising events and attended every sporting event. She had a great love for country music and the television show The Price is Right. Marilyn played softball for E.F. Huebner Corp. in Jackson County's first women's softball League. They won the State Championship the first six years.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will take place on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn with Rev. Robert Malsack officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Presbyterian Church. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn.
Nicholas C. Bucurestean
Nicholas C. Bucurestean, age 81 of Lake Somerset, formerly of Detroit, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005 at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1924 in Detroit, Mich. to Peter and Marie (Schaffer) Bucurestean. He married Carol J. Pum on Dec. 3, 1965 in Detroit, and she survives. Nicholas lived in the Detroit area for many years before moving to Lake Somerset in 1986. He graduated from Pershing High School, and attended college at the University of Michigan. He was owner and CEO of Davison Sheet Metal Inc. in Detroit, he was active in many organizations, among these are the Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan, Lodge #519 of Redford and American Power Boat Association. He built and raced boats for 25 years and also ran the N.C. Boat Company in Detroit. He was inducted into the American Power Boat Association Hall of Fame in Detroit, was involved in the Radio Controlled Airplane Clubs in Adrian and Hudson and was a free lance photographer for many years in Detroit. He was on the Lake Somerset Building Committee for 25 years.
Surviving besides his wife Carol are two daughter, Sharlene (Tom) Borke of Canton and Dawn (Michael) Ostach of Wixom; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eleanor (William) Parent of Plymouth.
Per the deceased request, cremation will take place with no formal services. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.
Clair Zawodny
Clair S. Zawodny, 20, of Addison died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005. Services were held Tuesday at Brown-Van-Hemert Funeral Home, Addison.
Marjorie M. Janke
Marjorie M. Janke, 79, of Adrian, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Adrian Health Care Center. She was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Logansport, Ind., to Leroy and Hazel Mae (Hobaugh) Bradburn. After the death of her mother, she was raised by Lawrence and Elsie Hobaugh. On Dec. 18, 1943, she married Paul Janke. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2001. Marjorie had served as music director for the church choir at the Church of God in Saginaw.
Her survivors include three sons, Bryan Janke and his wife, Barbara, of Adrian, Dennis Janke and his wife, Linda, of Birch Run, Mich. and Timothy Janke and his wife, Patricia, of Bridgeport, Mich.; a daughter, Brenda Mommers and her husband, Guillaume of Brooklyn; a brother, Gary Jay; three sisters, Esther Ellen, Naoma Jeanette, and Patricia Nan; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Paul, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon K. Janke in infancy and a sister, Mary Alice.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at the Fairfield Cemetery with Pastor John Sholly officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
Louise E. (Baker) Gage
Louise E. (Baker) Gage, age 97, of Spring Arbor, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2005.
She was born Aug. 12, 1907 to William and Florine (Taylor) Brooks on the family farm in Brooklyn. She graduated from Cement City High School in 1926, a class of three. She then attended Cleary Business College in Ypsilanti. Louise married Edwin Baker in 1929, and they had three daughters. After Edwin passed away in 1951, Louise worked under civil service and retired from the Veteran's Hospital in Ann Arbor in 1965. She became reacquainted in 1973 with Floyd Gage, a friend from the horse and buggy days. They married later that year, and lived many years on their Grass Lake Farm.
Louise enjoyed gardening, traveling, the beauty of the country and her Grass Lake friends.
Floyd passed away in 2000, and she was preceded also in death by a sister, Clarabelle Brooks; two brothers, Reid and Joe Brooks. She is survived by her three daughters, Elvina Swenson of Arizona; Edwina (Harold) Burgett of Spring Arbor, and Marlene (AJ) Green of Florida; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Louise will always be remembered as a hard worker who loved the outdoors. She was a loving mother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Services were held at the Grass Lake United Methodist Church on January 14, with the Reverend Larry Rubingh officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery, Napoleon. Those who wish may direct contributions in her name to the Church, if desired. Funeral arrangements were made by Chas. J. Burden and Son, of Jackson.
Goldie J. "Ella" Moore
Goldie J. "Ella" Moore age 88 years, of Rollin, Mich. died Monday, January 10, 2005 in the St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, the result of a car-truck accident in Rollin Township Monday afternoon.
Kevin J. Tidwell
Kevin J. Tidwell, age 41, passed away January 12, 2005.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Tidwell, daughter, Amelia Tidwell and former wife, Christina Tidwell, all of Churubusco, Ind.; father, Thomas L. Tidwell of Crossville, Tenn.; two brothers, Kerry J. Tidwell of Fishers, Ind. and Keith J. Tidwell of Crossville, Tenn.; three sisters, Kim Ford of Addison, Kelly Salow of Ypsilanti, Mich. and Rebecca Cooper of Michigan.
Services were held on January 18, at 1 p.m. at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Ind. A Memorial Service will also be held on Saturday, January 22, at 10:30 a.m. at West Rome Baptist Church in Manitou Beach, Mich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas & Amelia Tidwell College Fund.
