Julia D. Winder
Julia D. Winder, 85 of Clinton died Tuesday Feb. 22, 2005 in Adrian. She was born Feb. 14, 1920 in Kentucky, the daughter of John and Della (Wilson) Stratton. On April 27, 1940 she married William Winder and he preceded her in death Aug. 22, 1980.
Mrs. Winder was a member of the Clinton Women's Club and St. John's Episcopal Church of Clinton.
Mrs. Winder is survived by a son, Bruce (Sue) Winder of Onsted, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and several brothers and sisters.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Clinton in the spring. Arrangements were entrusted to Couture-Handler Funeral Homes.
Alice M. Austin
Alice M. Austin, age 98, of Brooklyn passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005. She was born June 13, 1906 in Buckley, Mich., the daughter of Walter E. and Mabel C. (Davis) Bracebridge. She married Melbirn Earl Austin on Sept. 11, 1932 in Grant Township and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Gonder of Brooklyn; two grandchildren, Thomas A. Gonder of Onsted and Timothy A. Gonder of Gladwin. In addition to her husband, Alice was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Della M. Bracebridge; and son-in-law Frank Gonder.
Alice was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eastern Star, Mesick Chapter.
A celebration of her life took place on Friday, March 18, at the Heart O' Lakes United Brethren Church, with Rev. Kevin Cherry officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Heart O' Lakes United Brethren Church. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home. Interment will take place at a later date in Buckley, Mich.
James H. McLaughlin
James H. McLaughlin, 83, of Brooklyn, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 at home.
He was born Aug. 2, 1921 in Shattuck, Okla., the son of Edward and Mamie Mae (Wise) McLaughlin. He married Faye Laura Brasher on July 24, 1950 in Mt. Vernon, Wash. and she preceded him in death on May 25, 1997.
He was also preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. He is survived by one daughter, Laura Johnson of Brooklyn; one son, Kevin McLaughlin (Dawn) of Calif.; one grandson, Ron Johnson; and 1 great grandson, Spencer Johnson.
James retired from the United States Navy in 1972. He was a life member of the VFW; and retired from the United States Postal Service.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or Hospice of Jackson. Arrangements by Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, Brooklyn.
Gladys M. Sawdey
Gladys M. Sawdey, age 82 of Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County, Mich., passed away on Monday, March 28, 2005 at her home. She was born on Feb. 28, 1923 in Wheatland Township to William and Bessie (Hibbs) Post. She married Harold O. Sawdey on Jan. 16, 1942 in Addison, and he survives.
She lived in the Wheatland Township area for over 60 years. She was employed at Key Bank in Addison for 28 years, retiring in 1988. Gladys and her husband held motorcycles races at their property for many years. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, and she enjoyed RVing. She was a member of the Musketeers Motorcycle Club.
Surviving besides her husband Harold are two sons, Richard (Donna) Sawdey, and John (Belinda) Sawdey all of North Adams; grandchildren, Scott Sawdey, Kindle (Todd) Brundige, LuAnn Sawdey, Shelly Sawdey, David Sawdey, Rick (Nicole) Sawdey, Cassie (Dale) Hedy; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Mitchell, Dakota, Kathryn, Zachary, Cooper, Harley Sue, MacKenzie, and Dylan; four nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jacklyn; son, Kenneth; and brother, Theron "Pete" Post.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with the Rev. Clyde L. Wonders officiating. Burial will be made in the Evergreen-Fowler Cemetery, Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County, Mich. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Janice E. (Marr) Winder
Janice E. (Marr) Winder, 92, of Oroville, California, passed away on Feb. 16, 2005, at a care facility in Oroville. She was born Sept. 10, 1912, to Ray and Hazel Marr, in Brooklyn, Mich. She married her husband, John E. Winder, on Aug. 1, 1931.
She is survived by one son, Jack Winder and wife Joy of Michigan; two daughters, Vicky Crosswell of Hanford, Calif. and Starlene Mason of Oroville, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlone German of Brooklyn, Michigan; and many loving nieces and nephews. Janice is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John; son, Douglas Winder; grandson, Douglas Winder Jr.; and a brother, Judson Marr.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Grangeville Cemetery in Armona.

The Rev. Reginald Angus
The Rev. Reginald Angus, age 91 of Addison, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.
He was born on March 10, 1914 in Flushing, Mich. to William H. and Mary E. (Lunt) Angus. He married Esther T. Wolfe on June 16, 1958 in Webberville, Michigan, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 1978.
Reg lived his early life in the Detroit area, then in 1946 he moved to the Wamplers Lake area. In 1975 he moved with the family to Addison. He attended Denby High School in Detroit, graduated from School of Theology in Lansing, and was ordained an Episcopal Perpetual Deacon in 1973. He served as Deacon at All Saints Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, and also served at St. Michaels Episcopal Church at Cambridge Junction, retiring in 2003. At age 18, Reg began attending the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Detroit, where he sang in the choir for many years. Reg was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, former member and Past Master of the Onsted Masonic Lodge, life member of the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge #69, member of the Addison Senior Citizens Center, and he sang with the Ambassadors. He was instrumental in establishing Hospice of Jackson.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret (Steve) Stiling of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; one son, James C. Angus of Addison; three grandchildren; great nieces and nephews; and special friends Bess and Ted Neutz of Grass Lake. He is preceded in death by his wife Esther, and nine brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 201 N. Main Street, Brooklyn, Mich., with the Rev. John Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison. A Masonic Lodge Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 by the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge #69, Tecumseh, Michigan and by the Northeastern Masonic Lodge #210 of Fremont, Indiana. Cremation will take place. Interment at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Detroit will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the All Saints Episcopal Church in Brooklyn.
Harold Herman Celske
Harold Herman Celske, age 80 of Brooklyn, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at his home under the loving care of his family and Heartland Hospice. He was born April 9, 1924 in Dearborn the son of John and Martha (Aueffeld) Celske. He married Marie Jenkins on September 11, 1993 in Norvell and she survives.
Harold is also survived by his daughter, Linda (Norm) Moull of Springport; sons, Ronnie Celske, Michael (Chelli) Celske and Terry (Robin) Celske all of Napoleon; step-children, Ivan (Kim) Warner of Canneyville, Ky. and Sam (Dorraine) Warner of Jackson; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his first wife, Alpha, parents, two brothers, one sister, and one great granddaughter.
A celebration of Harold's life took place on March 11, at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel in Brooklyn with Reverend James K. Mahan. Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Lenora E. Shaffer
Lenora E. Shaffer, age 8,1 passed away March 10, 2005, at Adrian HealthCare Center. Lenora was born on January 24, 1924 in Chico, California, the daughter of William J. and Lucy (Coyle) Newell. She married Charles Shaffer and he survives.
She was a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church. Besides her husband, Mrs. Shaffer is survived by her sons, Fred (Paulette) of Brooklyn and Carl (Annette) of Jackson; sister, Mary Owens of Chico, Calif. and 2 grandchildren.
A celebration of life took place on Saturday, March 12, at the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church with Reverend Robert Malsack officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church Building Fund for the elevator. Arrangements entrusted to the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel.
Charles William White
Charles William White, age 83, formerly of Clarklake passed away Friday, March 11, 2005, in Gainesville, Fla.
He was born June 3, 1921 in Detroit, Mich. to Charles David and Grace White. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He married Rosemary (Stefanski) White of Chicago, Ill. after the war, and moved to Clarklake where he resided for 40 some years.
He is survived by Rosemary and his children, Betsy (Jim) Greene of Boston, Md., Kate Dedow of Livonia, Mich., Tom (Carol) White of Clinton Twp., Mich., Margo (Phil) Ruede of Port Orange, Fla., Patricia White of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Amy (Scott) Miller of Canton, Mich. and his sister, MaryAnn (Marv) DeYoung of Jackson, Mich.
Mr. White has been cremated with a memorial at Clarklake to be held this summer. Memorials may be made in the name of St. Rita's Knights of Columbus or the Clarklake Lions Club both of which Mr. White was a charter member.
Richard S. Turner
Richard S. Turner, age 94, of Onsted, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being planned for a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Chapel, Brown-VanHemert Funeral Home in Onsted.
